- This time last year, Haverok and I started working on videos together and the first collaboration was that on Super Saiyan Colour Theory. From Super Saiyan to Ultra Instinct, we've explored the different meanings and suppositions as to the connotations surrounding the different transformations from Dragon Ball and Super. How well has our theory held up in the past 12 months? Let's have a DB analysis and discussion!

So essentially higher Super Saiyan forms are further perfecting physical chakra, while God forms move toward perfecting spiritual chakra... I like it, maybe it can stop the debates about which one is better

The hair colors of the super sayians remind me of the colors of the power rings of the DC universe.
Like green for willpower, yellow for fear, red for rage, blue for hope, orange for greed, all of us get the general idea of the rest.
After your color theory videos, I started to observe the colors of auras and Ki in Dragon Ball on my own, and I noticed similar patterns, such as your Kaio Ken example, but I would also like to point out that Caulifla, a character who is known (and much maligned) for her rapid growth in power, constantly fires vibrant red blasts of Ki, she doesn't have the red aura, but she certainly taps into that type of Ki very often and that may be key in the way we interpret her growth. Jiren, of course, is another red aura character, Goku Black has some red as well (I did notice that he has a lot going on in his Ki) and he also undergoes some rapid growth. So even if one did not believe in these theories, it is hard to deny that red is often a color used by characters who are capable of growing in power very quickly.
Green is often associated with boundless energy flow, Broly with his power overflowing, the Androids with their green barriers and infinite energy, and this new character introduced in the next movie.
Vegeta is a very interesting character to study when it comes to color theory, he has three big Ki attacks of varying colors: the Final Flash, Big Bang Attack and Galick Gun. The Final Flash is yellow, that color seems to represent the raw, straightforward release of energy, most basic Ki blasts are yellow, but Vegeta's Final Flash seems to be raw release of Ki taken up to 11, he is going all in and depositing all of his energy in that one attack. Big Bang Attack is blue, and as we know, blue is a color that represents control, the Kamehameha is blue, and it is channeled through a technique, the Big Bang Attack seems to be all about focusing energy into one single spot and then firing it, so it fits the concept of control.
With the Galick Gun we touch on something that I haven't quite understood yet: pink Ki. Frieza, Buu, Ginyu, Raditz, and yes even Vegeta when he first arrived on Earth had pink auras or fired pink Ki attacks, I don't quite know how it all fits in the color theory graph, but what I have noticed is that all of these characters have one thing in common: murderous intent, originally pink was meant to simply represent "evil characters", it's the red lightsaber of Dragon Ball, so maybe pink is some sort of "dark ki", one that can be accessed when the warrior taps into the most primal, chaotic and destructive urges within themselves, this idea reminds me a lot of the concept of the Satsui No Hado from Street Fighter, honestly. Here is how the Street Fighter wiki describes it:
"The Satsui no Hado is a form of ki that is rooted in the darker aspects of the natural human instinct (including the desire to survive, trample, and impose over opposition), and on a metaphysical level, the natural occurrence and manifestation of loss, decline, and destruction.
To tap into the Satsui no Hado, a person must be so consumed with the desire for victory and perfection, be close to death, or else possess such intense rage and hatred, that they are willing to kill. As such, only people who push themselves to be the best at any cost can take full advantage of it, however, the untrained mind can be driven into insanity if they are not mentally ready for it. "
Makes sense? Maybe. This is all conjecture either way, but there are some interesting patterns in Dragon Ball.
Your Satsui no Hado reminded me when goku was stroke with that weird violet ki (some hakai's ki resemblance if you ask me), which terminates his perfect UI... Hope in the manga explain that in more detail

I really hope Ultra Instinct is goku's final form. Instead of focusing on power/multipliers, goku's current journey will be to train his mind and focus on martial arts, to finally attain and truly master Ultra Instinct.
I agree, considering that UI in itself is a form of mastery not only of the physical body, but also of one's mental strength.

Your theory regarding the similarities between Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Rose makes SO MUCH SENSE. It perfectly explains the humongous shift in Goku Black's power when he transforms. And of course the aura representing a Godlike presence in a human/mortal world. I was thinking that right before you said it lol. Absolutely brilliant, man!
Hey Masako. When you said that super saiyan Blue explores the higher self, I took a look at Vegeta's new super saiyan Blue Evolution (or Super Saiyan Royal Blue) and noticed something about the colour. while many may call it Royal blue I figured it more to be INDIGO! And when looking at the chakra chart I noticed that indigo is mostly oriented with the Ajna Chakra. I think this fits because the Ajna chakra is focused on innovation and creativity which fits with the chakra located where the brain is.
If the saiyan forms personifies the chakras, could it be that Vegeta is rising more steadily in power to achieve an ultimate form or is he training himself at a pace his body can handle the power, so he to attain a mastered ultra instinct that doesn't damage his body.

The great thing about fan theories is that it can connect multiple fans and give them the chance to discuss and bring new stuff to already existing stuff, whether it be canon or not.

I love the idea of Ssj 4 and Ssj blue having a similar amount of power.
Since Goku took part of the Ssj ritual he kinda jumped into a new league entirely, the god league. His transformations changed and his ki changed into god ki.
This means that Ssj 4 may be a transformation in the mortal league, it's not weaker than Ssj blue, it's pretty much the same but on a different category and earned through different means.
I always love the color theory videos! Probably my favorite dragonball theory on the internet. I've always loved the surprising complexity that Naruto takes into its 'chakra' system, and seeing a similar level of complexity and explanation applied to dragonball's 'ki' system is super interesting.

City Guard he was referring to super saiyan 1 grades (grade 1 (base), grade 2 (buff), grade 3 (mega buff), and grade 4/perfected)
Don't know if this has been done but what if Piccolo and kami fused together in the future trunks timeline. He fought on par with 17 in the main timeline and the future androids are weaker.

Magenta- Dystopia I agree. And from what we've seen in Heroes, Super Saiyan 4 is more powerful than Super Saiyan God, but slightly weaker than Super Saiyan Blue. It definitely has a better design and inspiration, at least in my opinion. And it put up a really good fight against blue.

Magenta- Dystopia and what's even more awesome is that Xeno Goku attained god ki at one point, but never trained and harnessed it. So, we may have yet to see some sort of Super Saiyan God 4

Love the Super Saiyan color theory videos. I still think the red aura of Super Saiyan 4 ties into it.
Also, I think we will get a Super Saiyan Purple eventually, when one of the Saiyans taps into God of Destruction power, and possibly replaces Beerus. I would even go as far as Goku becoming Super Saiyan Rose and Vegeta going Super Saiyan Purple, and both of them eventually becoming the Kai and God of Destruction of Universe 7.
Hmm... could this also explain why characters like piccolo can achieve the ability to sense the pressure of gods? Piccolo meditates and trains at the same time so wouldn’t he be a combination of both of these types of chakra? He was initially comprised of negativity but once he fused with kami a lot has changed so maybe there’s an explanation for that

I think that the transformations are the saiyan (or other species) growing closer to becoming basically a ki energy being. It would also fit well with Asia's Buddhist popularity and the general aesthetic of Dragonball. Basically, each level evolving the person as a being closer to spiritual enlightenment, but with ki.

My friend and I had the exact same theory for Super Saiyan 4 as opposed to Super Saiyan Blue for our Pathfinder campaign.
The way you talked about kaio-ken (x1) as being more of a 100% maxed out power is something I've been looking into for ages. So many places say that regular kaio-ken doubles your strength and thus is essentially the same as kaio-ken x2 (even so far as some people saying they are the same thing and give the same power boost), yet kkx2 was seen as being stronger in the anime (not sure about the manga).

7 Chakras, 7 Dragonballs and at the end of GT Goku takes the Dragonballs into himself in certain places on his body, I never thought of that before, since they do go into certain parts of him not just anywhere.
I liked how the fan animation Absalon called SSJ 4, Battle Form, kind of made sense.
That image on the screen in the background is a great example, one primal rage and emotion, the other, calmer and more centered.
Also would Goku even know what a decimal is? I think normal numbers would be enough of a challenge for Goku.

I think you where 100% with the theory, specially since its the only one that explains why the "legendary" transformation is yellowish green.
These Chakra Colors matching SSJ transformations are spot on. Im drawing a what-if thing where Gohan's new form if Mystic + God Ki, but the perfect version combines SSJ too(he did stack SSJ & Mystic once). The Chakra that would fit Gohan is Bindu, which can be Purple or Red(but I'm going with Purple). Get this, it *quietens emotions.* I'd definitely have that for an imperfect version, while SSJ added in symbolizes balance of Saiyan & Human(that chakra also promotes balance).
Goku Black & Zamasu's Chakra would be Vishudda. Wiki the symbol, its clear where SSJ Rose came from, the colors on that symbol are exact. Its also described as having a white color, look at Merged Zamasu
Sahasrara is purple, and I knew that before this because I looked up the chakras way back for inspiration of a RWBY OC, and some of that symbol's meanings are on point to me, and Purple is my favorite color. That symbol can also be white, but that one certainly fits Perfect Ultra Instinct Goku.
One more thing, the Indigo Chakra, Anja, that's 100% on point to SSJG Evolution Vegeta. Toriyama & the DB Super artists definitely use these Chakras for SSJ transformations.

The idea of Super Sayian has always been a bit over the top but a friend came up with this Super Sayian form called Super Sayian Orange and since I'm in to chakra and body energy I research it and found that it's derives from the Sacral chakra, those with deep emotion, love, creative and spirituality which is exactly like myself.

A thought occurs, and I'm sure others saw it long before me. The moment #17 wished for all destroyed universes to be restored, he undid all of the previous deletions, and with it, GT can exist legitimately again. Alongside that, in a sense, he wished for all Anime to exist.
MasakoX,I noticed with Kanba that his hair color as a Super Saiyan is a Yellow-Orange instead of the typical Yellow color. Even more so his Golden Great Ape form is colored Orange. A follow-up might be needed with this discovery that I with possibly many others have found.
What if the Purple form is a Saiyan learning Hakai and then going Super Saiyan while Hakai charged?
One thing that always bugged me was that I had always assumed that Goku had never stopped using Kaioken. When he was fighting Frieza, it is established that he is using it during the entire fight, but he doesn't announce it, and nobody notices it. I always just thought that was still the case, so I didn't understand the hype when he used it in Super.
You've got some interesting ideas in these color-theory videos, but you bringing up Whis' training in base form got me thinking, "what IS the most efficient form for training?" And that led me to the following question:
What the heck are all the forms and how do they compare?
I mean, okay, I know what Super Saiyan God is, and I know Super Saiyan Blue is what happens when you take God form and turn it Super Saiyan, but the show's been kinda vague about what is the relationship between Blue and traditional Super Saiyan, and it's even contradicted itself; during U6, the balance brought by Blue let Goku combine it with Kaioken safely, because it was stable and didn't bleed energy everywhere. But come ToP, suddenly Goku is in his normal SS1 form...because it's not as hard on energy as Blue?
Is there any way I could ask you to make a video where we try and sort out how the forms all compare to one another? What's efficient, what's speed-oriented, and sort of the pros and cons of each one? I think that might clear up a lot of confusion, because I've seen it discussed that we basically have no idea how SSB compares to most of the other forms.

I believe they yell during transformation not only for dramatic effects but because they are in pain. I think this because of his first Kaioken and when he goes SSJ3. After his first or second use of kaioken he was completely drained and could barley move and it was more because of the massive strain than the combat itself. Then the SSJ3 transformation was the longest one with the most change to the body and the most yelling, you can even hear when his hair starts to grow the pain in his voice because he almost stutters throughout. ( I meant to put this in the comments of the last video on the colors but autoplay started it before i could, and i realized how old it was.)
I wondered if chakras were a thing in Dragon Ball and what it would look like if a character were aware of it, but the saiyan transformations blew completely over my head I didn't even notice.
I'm still going to through that theory out that Goten and Trunks had witnessed a traumatizing event. Trunks overcame it or is overcompensating it with his narcisism and Goten is just broken with barely any self esteem left, which is why he loyally follows Trunks.
I can get behind SSJ4 being more geared toward the Earth whereas SSB is further up, making it a polar opposite. The way I see it, SSJ4 is more raw, primal and physical, as it stemmed from the Oozaru form and went as far as to physically alter Goku in more ways than his appearance. SSB, on the other hand, comes off as a spiritual enlightenment, but seemed to place a toll on the physical body what with the stamina drain. Adding the Kaio-ken on top of that, and then later Ultra Instinct Complete, it's very much apparent that these enhanced forms relied on absolute spiritual control. Something we saw in Jiren during the Tournament of Power. The main difference is that we got the impression that Jiren trained so that his body could handle the stress that came with that amount of spiritual energy.
As a note, Broly is the only Saiyan we don't see consuming vast quantities of food (aside from Paragus, but he always did stuff off-screen and Paragus never went SSJ). The thing is with this, Broly was able to survive 7yrs in a frozen glacier without sustenance or air. We know he wasn't in suspended animation because his body healed his injuries, which can't happen if he's completely frozen. Broly is unique in that he can survive entirely upon the ambient energy around him. This was hinted at in Movie 8 with Broly's power continuing to grow each time the fight progressed, but wasn't shown so concretely until the 11th movie; "Broly: 2nd Coming".
The village elder himself stated that for the last 7yrs the region had suffered from a drought and plants and animals alike would get sick and die. We can infer that Broly is the cause of this and that while he was frozen in the ice, his body was sustaining itself by feeding on the ambient energy of the land around him and all living creatures. The only reason why the Human villagers may not be affected as harshly may be because they're just a bit stronger than the animal population.
This would actually indicate why Broly's power seems to grow without limit and why he's able to recover so quickly. Broly is like a living reactor, drawing in energy from his surroundings in order to grow further and produce even greater quantities of energy. The more they fought him, the more energy was being produced and release, the more their was for Broly to feed on and become stronger. It's also why he never seems to actually grow tired. As long as there is an ambient source of energy for him to draw from, Broly will continue to grow stronger and be continuously sustained by it.
This also explains his survival in Burst Limit 2 and coming back as LSSJ3 after being blasted through the Sun. The Sun is a giant energy reactor and Broly was quite close to it. The amount of energy available for him to feed on and recover with was immense. Which is why his return in the game story was so much faster and also because he wasn't frozen in an ice block.
But yeah, Broly is really the only Saiyan who doesn't actually need to eat. His body is constantly drawing in the ambient energy around him to sustain itself. In this way, Broly could very well be considered immortal since his body and cells are constantly being renewed by the energy he draws in. I mean, outside of being killed by an outside force.
And all this could very well be part of the concept for the original Super Saiyan God or the ancient Saiyan or whomever we'll see in the upcoming movie in December.

also, training in base form makes sense in-universe as well. we all know that, at the very least, the different saiyan-based transformations are all multipliers, not flat boosts that stack with how much stronger you get. So, say you train at SSJ2 and your power level increases by 80k due to that. Since SSJ2 is a 100x multiplier compared to base form (x50 from SSJ, x2 from SSJ2), you'd only have to increase your power level by a mere 800 while training in base form to achieve the same effect.
This new Theory may also state that Gohan is actually right about his training wanting to stay in a base form. Which would possibly mean that Goku isn't the strongest at all in the team, but Gohan is when he figures out how to tap into that. It could mean that in a follow up series it could well mean that Gohan finds how to unlock it and use it. Which on turn may also mean that Gohan is far stronger then Goku will ever be and Vegeta will be proven right with his DBZ statement about half sayans.

Honestly a small theory here, but maybe Super Saiyan 4 makes more sense for being a Root Chakra and all that, because the whole body is colored red, signaling how the body is taking on a more root chakra red sort of power up. Super Saiyan God Blue however was more of a divine chakra, and so went more towards the head/hair, and the divine Blue. Maybe? Idk

What if buus bad energy inside him after he absorbed vegito was blux waves (the great ape stuff) and Goku grew his tail back and went SSJ4 after turning into the golden great ape (reminder SSJ4 is more like a 100X multiplier rather than a 10X multiplier)
(Vegeta can't get it cause he doesn't have SSJ3)
Note: I believe if Goku achieved super sayian god his base would get 100X stronger since he had another form but that's definitely up to your decision if you make this what if
Other side note: I also feel that SSJ4 would allow Goku to get even stronger than he did originally cause it's a form with better ki control (example if super Goku was 10X buu saga Goku what If Goku would be like 15-40X) Just another suggestion

I do enjoy this line of deep thought; color theory is fascinating stuff.
But Masako! (tm) Rose Goku Black has four distinct colors in his aura, besides the pink hair: indigo, magenta, red, and black. This is vastly different to the other super saiyans, who have one color and negative space, unless combining powers like Goku's Blue-Kaioken.
So I've been watching dragonball again and I've just gotten to the king Piccolo arc which has got me wondering why doesnt king Piccolo ever make nameks that look like nameks would you be able to help me? Love your stuff keep it up mate

@Masako I'm surprised you didn't mention this. Combine Red and Blue and you get Purple with color pigment, or with light, you get Magenta, or, super saiyan Rose. I propose that super saiyan Rose is a blend of super saiyan Red and super saiyan Blue.

If you notice, super Saiyan God without the aura is more of a pink then a red.
Can you do What if Vegeta and Goku used the fusion dance instead of the Potara Earrings against Buu?
My Idea of the Strongest Super Saiyan State would be the Rainbow Super Saiyan. Imagine it like a Super Saiyan, who can switch appearances with SS2,SS3 because at this power lvl it really doesn't matter how you look and the Hair changes colour like the Rainbow Hairstyle from Tekken7. Goku could do a Lightbreaker KameHameHa in that state ^^
@MasakoX What do you think about expanding the color theory beyond just super saiyan? Yes, most ki blasts are yellow. But you also have some that are more white or blue. As well as some that are pink or purple. You also have techniques like kaioken that are red. And there are times where Dende's healing is green, but not always. It could also be possible that most white auras could actually be invisible, and only some characters can see them.I'd love to get your take on it.
I’m hoping Toriyama goes back to what he said that ultimately he wants Goku’s base form to be his “strongest” form.
