  • Our pals from the ATA have popped out if the muck on the Sunday Rant. The under 21 truck driver apprentice program is a disaster and The American Trucking Association seems to know what the problem is. At least they think they do. The ATA says one reason may be that there is a requirement to have driver facing cameras and young people may not like that. HA! In the new continuing resolution
the driver facing camera requirement is removed and the ATA thinks that is neato keen. How ironic. Many companies that use this invasive technology are ATA member companies. These are the same companies no one should really apply to much less young people. Same verbal garbage as usual. Does the ATA recommend the removal of cameras? No.

I believe driver facing cameras are a big reason drivers get out of trucks that have them.

I'm seriously debating leaving my company.... And I make $29.36/hr. No OT or working over 40 though. My supervisor has turned up the sensitivity of my camera; I went 6 months with no incidents, month before last, I had 4 incidents in 1 month

Get some training at a trade school. You are still young enough to start a new career. I'm 58 stuck behind the wheel until retirement. Good luck.

Been a trucker since the mid nineties. Got my CDL at 18. OTR at 21. Kids these days are lazy. I wouldn’t trust them in a truck…

Is it alright if I quit 31 years of trucking career to give it up and live in someone's basement, get a government supplement and play video games all day?

Insurance is the reason but now the company can face a $13,000 fine if the driver is caught holding the phone on camera.

How about ENFORCING the FMCSA rule that Drivers must speak English?? If you watch last week's footage of trucks being pulled out of snow banks along Donner Summit, the wrecker driver said, "Most of these drivers don't speak English, and many of them have never seen snow." Think about the safety implications of millions of former rickshaw drivers (who'd never even driven a car before), and what this does to the earnings of native born American truckers. And yet the impact of foreign-born truckers never gets talked about, because ray-sism.

Coming out of high school everybody still smokes weed. Followed by I have to be gone how long. At that age I was still partying and picking up chicks. Got to be home to do that. Lot lizzards excluded.

I have a nephew who is 19. No idea what he does all day. He would be a good candidate to stick in the truck since he likes to be alone.

The main reason that 18 Y.O.’s will not go into trucking AND others of all ages cannot be cleared by a drug screen because they like to smoke their WEED too much, y’all know this, in orientation half the applicants are sent home because they couldn’t pass the drug screen! You cannot smoke weed if you are a trucker, or be an alcoholic for that matter, what a mess!

So... put the camera in the center of the cab behind the seats. Better yet, put a modem/router in each truck and log the ISP's. Ask the driver candidate pool how they feel about paying union dues.

I’ve never seen one video of an accident that required a camera on a driver to show who was at fault. The cameras are there to put liability on the driver. Period.

I was involved in accident that wasn't my fault and the state trooper was trying to get me to say that I was texting and driving, the driver facing camera showed that I was not texting, in fact my phone wasn't even in arms reach. I was originally put at fault but hired an attorney and took it to court, the video ultimately got the ticket dismissed because it showed that I wasn't at fault. I personally am in favor of driver facing cameras.

@@thewcrobinsonThe real, main reason is to catch people driving while looking at their phones.
It’s sort of a pandemic of low quality cretins who are willing to look at their phone while flying down the highway.
