    I had my first set of locs for 12 years and this set for about 15 months. My scalp has been AWFUL with this set of locs. I just remembered a week ago what I used to do with my scalp with my first set.
    Nothing.
    I just realized I've been doing too much with my scalp. These oils (I only used organic oils and just 1 at a time to try to find what worked) weren't doing my scalp any favors.
    So I just washed my locs, spritzed my hair with distilled water and put a little oil on my hair, and nothing on my scalp. Just massaged it. All these oils (and I just used 1 oil at a time) weren't helping *me* at all.
    My scalp is no longer sensitive, tender, and inflammed. A little distilled water spritz and massage to get my scalp sebum distributed is all I need.
    Angel you preach this all the time. Get to know your hair and don't be afraid to change what doesn't work for you!

    👏🏽👏🏽 I’m glad you said no bleaching AT ALL because it can be so damaging no matter what. My hair hates bleach even when I was lose natural. Though I have been considering those color paints or sprays

  • @tsimmonds55

    I don't have locs but I have been considering it. My hair is natural. I did my 3rd big chop in 2017 and finally has reached a length I am happy with. My first 2 big chops I damaged my hair. The first time I bleached the ends then cut those off and did a texturizer. I am 4c so coming from permed hair I didn't exactly like my texture so I thought I would be altering it just a little bit but I did it myself and my hair came out way to straight so I big chopped the next day. The 2nd time I was trying for a healthier journey so I didn't bleach but I did color and I did frequent trims. I always blew my hair out to trim and ended up cutting a lot because I was damaging it in an attempt to keep it healthy. I eventually big chopped for a 3rd time and I decided to not use color or heat. I've learned I just have to leave it alone and it will grow. Finally after 2 years I started to see the growth. Now its been over 2 and a half years and my hair is flourishing. I will eventually so locs but I want to enjoy my fro for just a bit longer. I did share your video with a friend of mine that had locs though. Love your positivity I had no other choice.

    I use Oil 3 times a week, a scalp spray/stimulator daily, and a moisturizer for my starter loc twist either daily for my ends and when needed for the locs itself. Is that too much? (Including water)

    so i started my loc journey a little bit after you last year in august and i love my super thick locs. whenever i do my own retwist my hair is so soft that even once its dry it unravels. do you have any ideas on how i can get my retwist to actually stay? (and i do tie my hair down with a scarf and i wear a bonnet)

    • @NaturalNirvana
      @NaturalNirvana  5 лет назад +2

      Congratulations on your journey! When you retwist...do you use clips? Also, what type of product do you use, or water only?

    • @transcendbytllc
      @transcendbytllc 5 лет назад +2

      Natural Nirvana I use black castor oil and vitamin e oil and ive been using a teeny amount of taliah waajid (excuse my spelling) curl jelly (i cant remember the exact name but its a lightweight jelly thats super moisturizering.) i put those products all over my head first then i begin to retwist and i secure with clips. also i let my hair dry for hourss but my hair is thick and is rarely dry in one day. on a daily i use my oils and water to add moisture

    • @lexc4965
      @lexc4965 5 лет назад +2

      @@transcendbytllc I retwist with clips. I clip it at the end of my new growth and set under the dryer for at least 20 minutes. That helps to set it. Hope that helps

    I find that when I spritz my hair with water or with water and oils added it makes it really dry. I think it maybe that the water could be hard or soft ( not sure)

    • @yourstruly2236

      Hi Theressa,
      Adding water doesn’t work well for me either. You will have to find a routine that works specifically for your hair type. For instance, I use a light almond oil daily on my hair. This routine keeps my locs well moisturized. Sometimes, I can go every two days until I add moisture. In addition, drinking plenty of water and keeping my locs covered every night. I believe that you have to do what works best for you. Just like the saying, “Different strokes for different Folks.” Enjoy! #LiveLoveLocsandHappiness

      @lexc4965 5 лет назад +1

      You probably have hair like me lol. After I use water I use a medium to thick oil over it and on my scalp. That'll seal the moisture in. Hope this helps.

    Just started watching the vid and subbed so sorry if this question has been answered already, I have done 3c hair and cos of my disability I can’t raise my arms without dislocating my shoulders (Ehlers Danlos syndrome) so caring for my hair is hard I’m shoulder length when curly but bra strap length when stretched, my hair doesn’t hold twists well cos it’s so fine which is also part of my illness but I hold up plaits ok should I start my locs with plaits so they hold a bit better?

    • @NaturalNirvana
      @NaturalNirvana  5 лет назад +1

      Hello! Thank you so much for subscribing and taking the time to watch. I am so sorry that you have to battle that. You can start your locs with braids, but they may turn out more slim as opposed to locs started with twist, coils or freeform. I don’t have much knowledge on braidlocs, so I would suggest searching RUclips for others with braidlocs to get a better idea. It all depends on what you desire as well. If you freeform, you don’t even have to worry about any of that. If you desire cultivated locs, you may opt for two strand twist, which may hold better. I started with coils but now freeform. My hair did come loose, but didn’t unravel completely. I always try to be as gentle as possible with my locs 😊.
