    For those that do not know: Everything you see some "BFI" for Engine & Trans Mounts does NOT include the 7-speed. So, if you have BFI in mind make certain you are a 6spd.

    Great video, thanks for showing the insert into OEM mount! Haven't consideret that since I didn't knew that was an option!
    How is NVH with you setup, did it increased noticably?

    • @VWTalk
      @VWTalk  Год назад

      I don’t have the car anymore. The nvh definitely increased noticeably. Especially in cold weather when the rubber was cold. But I got used to it. It wasn’t bad to the point of the car being undrivable, but after taking these out when I sold the car I really noticed the difference. I got a lot more noise from the transmission, a lot more engine noise reverberating throughout the cabin. But I got used to it a lot and it died down a bit after the mounts broke in. The traction difference though was immense, from launches as well as in corners.. way more direct.

      @@VWTalk My engine side mount is still stock. Unit has only few thousand miles, since I had to replace it due to accident. I’m running BFI Stage 1 insert in my dogbone and I’m quite happy how it stiffened up things. I kinda want to stiffen up “everything” a little bit, so it’s still a daily, but tight enough to feel that direct response when accelerator/brake is pressed!

      @@adomasz.3958 if you have a gti past stage 2 I’d definitely recommend upgrading the engine and trans mount if you feel like you’d benefit from a bit more traction. Personally I destroyed the bfi dogbone insert and jumped to the power flex hybrid. I don’t think I would upgrade just one (of engine and trans) at a time- it’s my understanding they should be done as pairs.

  • @sibzilla

    Wish I saw this video when I discovered I couldn’t get the ecu box off. Did the same thing as you pretty much. Used CTS rubber mounts and gonna have to do it all again because the engine still moves too much. *sigh*

    • @VWTalk
      @VWTalk  Год назад

      Yeah it’s not intuitive at all and a total disappointment that the ecu is riveted- so unnecessary

    • @sibzilla
      @sibzilla Год назад

      Ended up ordering a 75a durometer insert for trans side. Wonder if that’ll do the job! CTS mount says it’s 60a and solid so here’s hoping! Doing it again should be easier and maybe I’ll even get the plastic cover seeing as you shared the p/n. Cheers!

    great vid - I'm curious...I notice a lot of low RPM noise in 5th (DSG) with these on. I can't tell if that is common with the mount sets or if I have something going on with the trans. I couldn't really tell after the install because I was on winter tires and typically listen to radio and it's just one gear. Do you have something similar? Everyone talks about NVH (but always V not N or H)

    • @VWTalk
      @VWTalk  7 месяцев назад

      Hey thank you for the comment. I don’t drive automatics so cannot comment on how it was with dsg but never had abnormal noises in particular gears. The car did make a bit more noise with these mounts. There is definitely more N with these as well as the V. Not sure what harshness may even refer to. The car has since been sold and I decided not to put the mounts on my mk8 since I prefer having less vibration.

    Did you notice your engine was slanted towards the transmission after this install? I just installed both the engine and transmission mount (BFI) and that’s what I noticed on mine. Everything is lined up properly but now I get slight axel bind

    • @VWTalk
      @VWTalk  29 дней назад +1

      @@jesse9137 No I didn’t. It’s really easy to misalign these though. I did a lot to document the original alignment

      @jesse9137 29 дней назад

      @@VWTalkhmm. With mine installed it sits exactly like yours and yet I’m not getting some slight axel bind from the transmission side ( cars also lowered) and I have no clue why it’s doing it. All I can think of is the mount isn’t lined up properly or it just sits diffferent to stock mounts

    • @VWTalk
      @VWTalk  29 дней назад

      @ I was lowered pretty low. I never had a problem. I dont have the car anymore otherwise I’d go into the garage and see what it looks like to guess a bit better. Is there a chance you did not support the engine well during the install or let it droop a bit too far? Maybe you need to re seat the axle. That would be my only guess. But it’s a very unqualified guess (I’m not a mechanic and these are RUclips comments). You could measure the mounts perhaps to see if they’re in spec. Sorry you’re having this issue. The BFI arent an amazing product but they’re a decent product.

    It looks like your timing cover gasket is leaking.

    • @VWTalk
      @VWTalk  Год назад

      I do have minor weepage from a few gaskets on the engine. Unfortunately, even though under warranty, VW won'y do anything about it since I don't consume oil. It really isn't an issue as far as I understand, there is no evidence of oil collecting aside from the seepage around the perimeter. I monitor my oil levels closely, and know the engine doesn't really consume a drop.

      @VWTalk  Год назад

      @@shaunmaxwell2745 Appreciate the comment for sure. I can't see myself touching any seals unless I have to haha. The mounts so far are excellent. There is NVH but it toned down a lot and the car feels natural even when driven back to back with a car with stock mounts (I have 3 MQB in the driveway). They really improved wheel hop even though my stock mounts only had a few KMs. I really only notice the NVH in -10C or below, when the rubber is cold. I can't wait to get the car on the track this summer.
