Thanks for the detailed video. Just to add, the notch is helpful/critical, yes, but there's something almost equally important for replacement. VW (or equivalent) tool #T10531/1 and #T10531/2 are must haves per Erwin. Haynes explains, "[this tool] will keep pressure on the crankshaft pulley/vibration damper, the timing chain sprocket and the crankshaft, preventing any movement." Basically, during the period of final removal of the main bolt and installation of it there WILL be movement with these three inner parts unless you have the tool to keep constant pressure in that area the whole time. It's a relatively cheap part and straightforward enough to use, so totally worth it for at least peace of mind. Anyway, thanks' for documenting and the good images for us!
I was nervous doing this myself strictly because I thought I was going to mess up the timing, but like you said, that large triangular notch made it almost dummy proof.
@@notovicrious you just increased my anxiety level. Would the effects be instant or gradually over time? I have installed mine for nearly 2 years now and haven't experienced anything weird.
@@VWTalk peace of mind? For the price IDK either, but I figured it couldn't hurt as a supporting mod. I definitely could have used that money towards another mod for sure.
I just looked up vw crank pulley tool on amazon and sorted by price. I can't even get the link for the tool i bought... but also don't want to support random amazon sellers haha.
I sold the car in October but I enjoyed it… but it wasn’t worth the money. I just couldn’t tell the difference if I wasn’t thinking hard about it. Once I started de modding the car definitely was more tame but not sure what I can attribute that to.
@@VWTalk Did you notice any difference in sound after it was installed? On the R, I noticed a considerable difference when accelerating in gear. In neutral it's the same sound as with the stock pulley.
@@anonuser2273 That's interesting. I did a turbo at the same time as this so I didn't really take the time to appreciate the differences. I now have a mk8r and if I can't resell the fluidampr I'll probably reinstall it soon, I'm going to try and take some videos and pay attention now to the sound differences.

my buddy just asked me if my MK7 GTI had upgraded parts for this... I'd never heard of this mod... great job on the video. Subbed
Appreciated. Definitely not done by Manu but I am happy.
Was tested in Euro Tuner magazine before it went defunct, I think it was good for 6HP and 12 FT-LB .
Good video! Thanks for focusing on the alignment. I am a bit gun-shy because of the timing issue if the install is done poorly.

It's easy man. I fucked up timing on a car once and kept having PTSD, but this is really hard to mess up. Worth $600 though???? not sure

@@TheNok610 I can barely tell the difference with it lol
@@VWTalk agreed... lmfao. I tell myself that it's reducing vibrations from aftermarket mounts full exhaust. Meh
I have this on my GTI and I love it. It’s a great and well worth doing.
What aftermarket clutch/flywheel are you running? The benefits are mostly associated with reducing the NVH of a single mass flywheel.
Sachs clutch and stock flywheel reused. You are correct i'd definitely notice it more with a SMF.
Please provide the link for the tool you used. Just need the tool

What size is the bolt ?
You can buy the crank bolt at a vw dealer. I wouldn’t purchase one based on thread pitch and size
Nice work. What mounts do you have?
Motor Mounts? I have BFI stage 1 all around. But i just (this afternoon) swapped the dogbone for a powerflex hybrid.
