  • We show you how to install an upgraded transmission mount on a MK7.5 GTI. Upgrading the engine and transmission mount on your car can lock the engine more securely to the body of the vehicle. This gives you better launching and handling. This video was shot on a MK7.5 GTI, but would apply to MK7 and MK7.5 GTI, Golf R and Golf/Sportwagen models.

Thank you so much for this install guide. So, some things that I learned while trying to follow along:
    * "I don't need those hose clamp pliers" -- almost famous last words since when re-installing, the clamp had opened much wider than the original state and my channel-lock pliers did not have a great angle to actually squeeze it far enough to get it back in the hose groove.
    * There is no need to completely remove the battery tray, which is good because I was *not* going to win the battle trying to get that last battery wire clip removed.
    * You can just remove the PCM if it makes getting it out of the way easier--those harness connections are slick
    * The covered wire bundle that just "pulls up" did anything but--I fought it to the point I assumed I was breaking something, including even using a pry bar and I was still not convinced I was doing it right (rewatched more than once).
    * Relatedly, when reinstalling it, the 'front' tab did not want to find its home and I was bending it trying to do it blind--definitely need to put eyes on it, as you did with the flashlight.
    * The 'rear' bolts going from the mount to the frame are just going to get "guten tight" with some blue loctite--there is absolutely no way that you can actually accurately use a torque wrench in that situation (yes, you can 'use' one, but a lot of the torque being applied is being lost if you had to use a U-joint and a wobble extension like I did).

The CTS Street Sport mounts are 60a durometer and $120. Firmer than stock, hold up well, and are "rubber" vs BFI's poly (which will require servicing). BFI is like purchasing DINAN products when you can take a different route w/o the cost.
    Note:
Looking back @Paul's install, I would recommend adjusting the Jack first and fitting the mount in as flush as you can before putting in the bolts. Paul had a tough time because he had the bolts in first. Make sure the inside of the bracket is aligned and flush and adjust the Jack to flush out the outside better then insert the outside bolts - you'll have a much easier time 👍

An important heads up - Just had the BFI Stage I mounts installed that I purchased through DAP. -- Starting sometime in 2019 VW started installing breakaway bolts with a metal plate on the ECU that are locktite'd in place. Getting them off to remove the ECU to get down to the transmission mount is no small task. My Golf R is a late build 2019, not sure when the started this but it was a major PITA for my shop to cut these bolts off and then extract them to install the transmission mount. Cost me quite a bit extra labor, I was planning to tackle this install myself but was too busy with projects on my other cars so had my local shop do it. Glad I did lol.

Paul, love the videos and all you do. One thing I tend to do is remove the negative completely before loosening the positive and tightening the positive completely before connecting the negative to prevent possibly arcing on the module right next to the battery with a tool slipping or an excessively long ratchet.Thoughts?

Have you heard of upgrading to newer engine cover. I see that say..2018 vw passat engine cover is a lot larger than the 2017 passat. So i was wondering if one can simple swap them..

Hi Paul, my question is not related to this video, but what are your thoughts on products such as CRC Intake Valve Cleaner Spray - for Gasoline Direct Injection engines? Have you tried them, and will they do more harm than good? Thank you.

The 3 trans bolts are 18mm but BFI gave 19mm. Did that happen to you guys too? And can I fit 19mm bolts into the 18mm factory holes?

Hi, i have a problem. Had my engine, transmission mount and dogbone replaced with oem mount KLG. 2 days later, i discovered a low volume high pitch whining noise from engine bay. I found that, if the car is stationary, the whining stops. Once it moves, the whining starts and won’t stop until it come stop and it takes a short moment to cut out the whining after idle. Rev it at idle wont replicate the sound. The car has to move slightly to restart the whine. During the whining, off AC won’t stop the noise. Out to neutral won’t too. The car has to move. What happened? Misalignment?

    • @Jon-mo9ks

That is a result of NVH (noise, vibration, harshness)

Hi Paul, my 2016 Golf R has a metal cage around the ECM. It doesn’t seem like there’s a good solution to get to these bolts just by maneuvering the cable tray slightly underneath. Do you have a tip for this, or do I need to suffer busted knuckles and funky angles?
    Thanks.

2 years later but I encountered this too. Turns out you can just pull up the wiring loom bracket and give yourself a small amount of space - just enough to get a 16mm spanner (wrench) in. If you need extra leverage another spanner on the open end can do this. It means you can torque it down, but having done it - as tight as possible is fine, and it’s actually far less tight than you (I) would expect. It can be done without too much fuss so don’t panic :)
