    Hey Hafthor and Seb!
    I'm nearing 200kg max DL, and considering when and why to start using the belt. Any advice?
    My concern is that using the belt slows the development of my core muscles, and therefore doing it early hinders and weakens you in the long run. When did you start using the belt and how do I know it is the right time?

    • @JohnMilonJohnson
      @JohnMilonJohnson 4 года назад +1

      not necessarily RexEnrico. EMT Studies have shown the abs can contract harder with the belt on as you have something to brace into. I do feel not relying on the support but learning to breathe and brace hard without it is important as well. then when you get to heavier days throw it on.

    • @MrChriz333
      @MrChriz333 4 года назад

      RexEnrico I get your points. I would say all deadlifts 0-80% without belt. Dont bother lift any heavier without belt, I broke my back that way. Any weight you can not lift atleast 3 times, use belt! Also allways lift without straps until your grip start failing, its so bad seeing people lift 300kg with straps and cant even move 250 without them.

    • @MrChriz333
      @MrChriz333 4 года назад

      RexEnrico same with squats, lift without belt until you are going for PR’s or very heavy 1-2 reps sets.

    • @RexEnrico
      @RexEnrico 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, I don't even own straps :) Sorry about your back, that sounds crazy!
      Thank you both for your inputs. I tried asking the question on a Reddit strongman forum, but all I got was bro-science answers.

    • @MrChriz333
      @MrChriz333 4 года назад

      RexEnrico thats really good, I started using straps becouse my PT at my gym told me so. When I first did 250 with straps, I couldnt even hold 190 without them. I quit using straps and had to train my grip for months to be able to lift big weights again. Knee wraps, belt is usefull for PR,s but seing people have them on even when they warmup is so stupid. Lifting raw like you do will strenghten weak spots that equipment lifting might remove. If you can lift 200 raw, you will be able to lift alot more with belt! :)
