  • Astonishing! Mitchell Hooper has just broken the Axle Press World Record!
He pressed 218kg/480lbs at The Strongman Classic 2024 in front of a SOLD OUT Royal Albert Hall on his second attempt!!
This is major deja-vu from Iron Biby's incredible 217kg in 2021!
    Unbelievable from The Moose!

This means that Hooper only needed to lift heavier than all of the other competitors, in order to receive the maximal amount of points. Whether or not he got the world record wouldn't change the amount of points he gets. So if he only cares about his rankings, he wouldn't need to attempt the WR at all.

He’s not stupid. And he’s actually pretty honest. When the announcer said “pressing power,” hooper immediately commented on the split jerk. That is very honest because it isn’t pure pressing power… its more technique. But the credit still goes to him, he took almost 500lbs from the ground and held it over his head. He took the weight from a to b, same as other strong men. However when eddie hall pressed the 216 for example, that was pure pressing power!, he didn’t even jump the weight a bit.

What makes all the more remarkable is that's on the second attempt. A wonderful example of technique meeting strength.

Primarily being a professional armwrestling watcher, it's always bizarre to see Neil Pickup on the mic at these strongman events lol. He doesn't talk about strongman on his podcast and stuff, so you forget that he's so involved.

Amazing to fail on 2 tries, then catch your breath and succeed on the 3rd. The most I have ever deadlifted is 200k x 5. Doing 218 overhead is nuts. All the best to him.
