You know what I like about your videos? The fact that you speak quickly about your ideas without too much talking. You get to the point quickly and move on. Love listening to you. My favorite the hot water in the candles to get wax out.
I agree with u I like the fact that he doesn't do any unnecessary talking. But if it were me it would be hard for me to get to the point I would get so side tracked. 👍☮️😺 Cat
My boyfriend suggested putting a dab of the paint on the back side of the outlet cover as well, in case it's discontinued by the brand. That way it can be color matched.
You should be careful about using anything for drinking that is made for another use. My high school Chemistry teacher taught us that beakers and other laboratory vessels shed microscopic glass shards constantly. Anything meant for drinking needs to be specifically treated and/or tested for that purpose. There's a chance a glass holder for a candle is food safe. There's also a chance that it sheds glass shards, like a beaker. Stay safe folks.

That's what my dad did. and Also, on a protected eave of the house, he would write in pencil, Paint color, finish, how many gallons, how many coats, when painted. When I last painted my hallway with 13 doors, I found a shoe polish bottle with the applicator on the end and filled with leftover paint. That was for touchups. Not my original idea but saved me a few headaches.
I used to work in a pottery outlet and we used price stickers on everything. Whenever the owners decided to change prices or put on a sale, we would have to remove all the price stickers and put on new ones (so removing stickers on about a thousand items). We would spray the price sticker with windex, then use the back end of a swiffer duster (the plastic holder piece) to push the sticker and adhesive off. Windex breaks down sticker adhesive in about 10 seconds, so no need to wait 20mins to remove your sticker tags!
I have used the windex trick and a thumbnail on a mirror I bought at an as is store. Took me a few minutes and minimal effort to get a big red sale sign off a beautiful framed mirror.
Isopropyl alcohol is what removes the sticky & most window cleaners & all-purpose cleaners have some in it but just straight 90% Isopropyl and it will come right off no real wait time.
There's a product that's called orange------something. It comes in various sizes and is oily. I can't stand ragged price stickers and they. Ome right off.
I like the tape grid over the vase tip. I do the flower arrangements for my church sanctuary and one tip I use is crumpling the cellophane the flowers come in and putting it in the clear glass vases with the flowers then add water. It raises the stems up when the vase is too tall for the flowers to sit right and it will give the appearance of ice chunks in a clear vase.
For clean paint lines with tape, if you don't have the original wall color you can use matte mod podge. It will also fill in the bleed area with clear then paint your new color. Perfect line.
As for removing the candles you can also freeze them and they pop right out. 🎉 As for the caulking if you have a small bucket and a sponge 🧽 you keep your finger wet and run the sponge across it after your finger it has a clean finished look. 😉
Love how your tone of voice feels like you are giving these tips to a friend in front of you , so friendly and sweet! Thank you! By the way, loved the Amazon dupe screenshot research , much needed 💛
Love the caulking tip. Definitely will be using it. Another tip- I take a picture of the the top of my paint cans where the mixer has put a label of the brand, base, sheen, and color formula. I save these into a home album on my phone. Comes in handy if you need to text your painter the color or if you are picking up paint at the store.
You need to be careful with the caulking hack though. It was done in my kitchen and detergent in the soap dissolved black dye in the caulking leaving the black spots on the wooden kitchen counter.
I have a binder with sheet protectors that we keep all manuals, paint colors, lighting fixtures, etc. And write the install and/or purchase dates on the covers. Never know when you're going to need all that info, and if you move out the next person will have it all.
I'm over 70 and I watched this thinking I would probably know most of these "hacks." But you can teach an old dog new tricks - I can't wait to use some of these - especially your vase hacks! You have a great style and you move things along. I love that you have an eclectic aesthetic - it makes your room and your things so interesting. Thank you for a great video.
Well done, sir, well done. I pride myself on usually knowing 100 hacks for every situation, and you taught me a LOT. As a side note... You seem exceptionally grounded and genuine, and to put it simply, nice! Compared to other RUclips personalities, I think I would actually enjoy hanging out with you, and having a decent time. Tell whoever raised you, they did a stellar job!
WD-40 for sticker removal has always worked the best for me. When I was in grade school (I'm old), every year we had to cover our school text books with paper grocery bags. Great video!
I'm old too. We always covered our textbooks since we had to return them to the school in good condition. Sometimes in late August, grocery stores would have stacks of papers for book covers that were free for the taking. One side was printed with advertisements, but the other side was blank. I enjoyed decorating the covers.
You are a very kind, thoughtful and generous human being. I loved your video with your landlord. I can't even imagine the value you added to his property. Your open heart is contagious!!!
As someone that has worked in the paint departments at Home Depot and Lowe's, there's a problem with getting a paint sample from behind the outlet plate. To get a decent color match, we would recommend getting a sample at least the size of a quarter. Depending on the machine that is scanning the sample, a size of a dime might work. Anything smaller than that is useless. If your walls are textured, you might as well start over with your paint color because it never matches.
Guess we were lucky because we managed to get an exact match of the color of paint of our textured walls that were painted 20 years ago when we bought our house. Needed to do touch-ups on the walls where the grandkids had scuffed and scraped areas. Home Depot came through for us! We took a chip of paint from one of the walls.
I love this guys energy and how he’s so passionate about what he’s doing. Even if it’s old tips like the duvet thing, he’s being helpful by sharing it instead of trying too hard to be only different or only innovative
Use washi tape to secure paper covers to your books to prevent damaging the inside covers when you remove the tape. Also, put spent candleholders in the fridge or freezer; the old wax will just pop out.
@@jolindamae2217 Yup. We did that every school for decades - 60's and 70's for me. I don't know why you would cover a book you putting on display. Seems silly to have books strictly for decoration. But that's me. 😂
@@niekkie555 I know where lots of the books are, I alphabetize some stuff by topic, or books of a series are in order. If I flip one around that gives me the bearings of where others are located.
I would normally look for the list of advice within the comments of these kind of videos, but when it comes to Drew's, I just love listening to him explaining and showing things. Thank you for always doing such an amazing job and showing us all sorts of DIYs 💜
My aunt showed me a great hack. She moves a lot but likes the same color scheme. So she took paint swatches, punched a hole in the corner and attached them all to a metal clip. You could also keep them with your loan paperwork, lease, etc. This way when she moves; she knows exactly what color to use in her next home. The same can be done with any original color you may need to repaint. Love all these hacks Drew; I can't wait to use the Amazon one as well as the one to get tags off bottles! Would love to see more!
I actually appreciated all of it they were great tips and I will be using them. I think what I like the most about this video was the fact that you were concise, you stayed on topic, you kept moving so you went from one topic to the next it was quick and you went through step-by-step how to do it. I really appreciated it. Most other DIY videos are not like that, they are not specific and they don’t always give all the details or the products that they use. I get bored or irritated with them and have to fast forward through, but this was great. Not to mention all the links for the products used, wonderful information. Thank you so much
Drew is so concise and to the point that some may think he's reading a script, but he isn't. It simply flows out like you're there with him having coffee or something. I always appreciate "our" time together!
My favorite hack is writing the room color in the back of the light switch/plug cover. I would probably also paint 1/2 of the back in case the color is discontinued they can color match. When calking instead of spraying the calk just wet your finger and it smooths out well. I also like the hack of spraying the mat with clear flex seal. Great video.
Donna when I buy my paint I ask for an extra sticker from paint mixer that has b a me a b d formula of paint on it and stick it behind a wall plate and can go right to it if I need a mix of that paint
Writing the paint info on the outlet cover inside is GENIUS! Not just for the purpose you mentioned, but if you get some scuffs and want to touch it up later. Way easier than trying to remember which drawer I hit the paint square in.
Love the tips! My go to for removing wax from candle containers is to freeze them. The wax constricts and hardens, making it super easy to remove in one piece. I then use the wax pieces to make other homemade candles.
I do the same but I make firestarters with the wax. I fill a cardboard egg carton with dryer lint, shredded paper, ect and pour melted wax over this then separate the cups. They're great for camping or backyard firepits especially when there's too much dampness to easily start the fire.
Instead of soaking up the wax with paper towels, just wait until it hardens again. The wax will settle at the top. Press it down with slight pressure and it will pop right out. Soooo satisfying.
I love you! Congrats on your home purchase. It fun to see “younger folk” learning these tricks. My mom did most of these, but it’s great they are being passed on. The best one for me is the trick to find a cheaper version on Amazon with a picture of an item (mom obviously didn’t do that one). Spraying the front door mat with Flex Seal is pretty awesome too (mom didn’t do that one either). Again… love you. You’re so fun and have a natural talent… ❤️
Love all the tips! ❤ Thank you Drew. Can I add a tip for you on the caulking? I worked in a tiling store and learnt from the pros, use clear window/glass cleaner to smooth caulking rather than soap. The alcohol in the cleaner vaporises off so if you have any little bubble holes in caulking you can add more, soap can leave a residue which can sometimes affect filling in the little holes. I've done this trick for years swear by it, also have used this trick to add enamel paint touch ups like on stoves and fixing car duco. Spray the cleaner on your finger and wipe across. 🤗
Also on the sticker removal one, if you add just a bit of dawn or some type of liquid soap, it comes off even better & quicker. I've been doing the water method for years. So glad you pointed it out for others to benefit from!
Use the sticker itself and dab onto the remaining residue repeatedly. It will pick them up slowly until they are very few left and then proceed with the soapy water technique.
Loving the vase in a vase idea and the paint info inside the outlet covers! You could even take it step further, and paint a swatch of the current paint onto the back of the outlet cover in the color of the walls, and make a list of the outlets, for each room and the names of the paints. This would be a wonderful gift to the buyers of your house or your tenants, as well. The screw hook trick is new to me. Brilliant! I’ve seen the paint trick before but you explain it so well! It makes perfect sense once you explain the bleeding. The tree looks great! Much more natural looking than many retail ones.
Of course I’d love more tips! All of them were helpful! At 11:46 I really liked the way you can shop for a duplicate item at a lower price. That was new to me and I had actually wondered what the icon meant on Amazon. Also, at 14:57, the common sense idea that I never would have thought of! Taping cords to the corner of a TV and then decorating to hide them! Genius!
I was a wedding coordinator for years and a florist taught me the flower hack. I would tape around the bottom of tapers to make them fit. Great hacks. That wall stick is my fav!
@@gingereaves4097 Yes, I've learnt that as a child and it is the best one. For some reason, I thought that this thread was about vases and floral arrangements and I've just realized that I could be totally wrong!! 😂
I loved the Clear Tape hack for wider vases. It makes your dried florals sit perfectly in the wide vase. I'll certainly be using that advice this Summer, thank you 😊 👍
Something to keep in mind, when removing sticky labels (regardless of the method used), really do your best to not let the sticker pieces go into your drain. It doesn't take much to start a clog to build up. Hope that helps :-) Awesome tips!!! Fav is the fill-stick product.
I have not used this, but I was told that the best way to remove any sticker is to spray it with white vinegar. I usually have already scratched it off before remembering this trick.
Hannah knows whats up! Soaking the label w/H2O may be helpful but not necessary, slathering with an oily substance should allow scraping off; then add more and continue rubbing with paper towel to remove any residual. Should you use water, soak the label, then try working it off without continually holding under a running faucet, you know, like when brushing your teeth😁 Please conserve water anytime you can, it is a precious & limited resource.
When you have a votive holder that you add your own candles to, put a quarter to half inch of cool water in before dropping the candle in. When the candle drips, the cool water hardens it so it doesn’t stick to the container. This is really helpful if your votive holder has rounded walls (like a rose bowl shape) and getting wax out the other way would be harder.
I wish I knew this for like a moth ago! I was stupid and fix boiled water. Buuut.. I didn’t wait.. AND I used newspaper.. it got sooooo messy. Felt so stupid when I tried to clean up after myself. Took hours. 😩😥 Will definitely try this next time! 😂
I just found your channel and love it. Your hints are practical and you explain them clearly and quickly. I hate channels that will spend 15 minutes explaining just 1 simple thing. You’re got a new fan and subscriber.
Instead of the Fix-it stick to fill nail holes you can also use white tooth paste. Thousands of military families will attest on how great this works and it's cheap. (Military housing has white walls) -- Thanks for your ideas/suggestions.
Why not plain old regular stucco (I think in English they call it "spackle") which is actually made for this job? It's so easy to use, it's a powder, you mix with a bit of water to make a paste, and that's all.
@@irmar I think it's because most people, myself included, don't want to buy a whole container of spackle for a couple of small nail holes. I've used the toothpaste trick. Now, I just use command hooks and hangers for everything.
@@DeannaR2331165 Until the day when you walk in your home and find that your favorite framed image of the beach/ocean -- that you paid $120 for and then an additional $200 to have framed because of its odd size -- is on the ground, with shattered glass everywhere and the picture is now ruined because the glass left cuts because the command hook suddenly lost its sticking power and let go of the wall. I stopped using command hooks for certain things, particularly my wall of framed family photos, because invariably the glue fails and I got tired of cleaning up slivers of glass. I love command hangers but only use them for things that aren't encased in glass.
Drew, we are currently having to repair a room that a tree crashed through this past spring. We keep being in awe as each craft comes in and “Knows” exactly what to do, no wasted hours measuring things to death, or thinking things through. It’s a lifetime of experience right in front of your eyes. That what I enjoy watching you. If you are doing a project or these wonderful hacks. You teach while you are sharing but in a concise effective way. All of your videos are a joy to watch as I am in awe of your creativity and your teach ability.
I guess my mom was ahead of her time in the 70’s because she would cover books like that with wallpaper that she had leftover & coordinated with decor 😉 did the same on light switch plates. Love the Amazon hack, will definitely use it!!
In my country we did it with school books, we didn't have to buy them but we borrowed, reused during school year and afterwards gave them back for next kids to use but so they wouldn't get dirty or ruined we wrapped them in newspaper or som3 other fancier wrapping paper 🙂
Painting tip is genius! I was asking in a proffessional painter what can one do about the bleeding and he said there is nothing you can do if the walls are not perfectly smooth. Obviosly not the case! I'm painting a room next week and will be using this tip!
Great tips as always, Drew! When painting and using that green Frog Tape, it apparently has some sort of a bleed resistant medium in the tape itself that is activated by moisture, it's supposed to be activated by the new paint being brushed on or against it. It's always a good idea to burnish the tape down with a plastic scraper, then you can take a damp cloth and run it along the edge of the tape to activate the bleed resistant medium, or even use a fine mist sprayer to do so. You should be able to get a clean edge on the new paint color when you remove the tape.
Also, touch the back (sticky side) as little as possible. I can't remember if it a) removes the substance that swells to prevent the bleed or b) the moisture on your skin activates it before you want it to or c) does both. And thanks for the water mister tip.
I love the way you cover so much ground in such a short time. I didn't realize it had bn 20 min but what a wealth of info. Love the caulk trick! I've bn putting off building a built-in bc I absolutely despise dealing with the mess. Thank you for all of your inspo.
I intended to watch this as background content while working and ended up slacking for 20 mins. Great info and great pace of delivering the content. 👏👏👏
Wow! Such good tips. I especially love the duvet cover one. I stopped using duvet covers because I hate putting the duvets onto the comforter. That looked so easy. Can’t wait to try it! Thanks!!
I use painters tape when I caulk so after I wipe it smooth I remove the tape and it’s in a straight line. I also use alcohol or alcohol pads to rub off the sticker residue. These were all great tips.
Watching you from South Africa. I noticed that you have beautiful hands. I love using surgical gloves for painting, even cooking. No harmful chemicals ever on your hands.
Tip for stickers if there’s some adhesive sticky residue after leaving it soaking and scraping it off, kitchen vegetal oil breaks it down pretty well and leaves it very clean :)
That's what I am using! :) If the glue doesn't come off with water (but the paper did) the glue in 99% of cases can be just wiped/rubbed off with e.g. canola oil and paper towel. If this doesn't work it is heat sensitive glue. Whenever possible I then just microwave the thing (a jar for example) fow a while with some water in it and then remove the melted glue with paper towels.
I really enjoyed your tips! This is the first time I have ever paid attention to any "hacks". Mostly because I thought 'What was the point of them for a woman in the winter of her life?" But now I think, "Why can"t you do something just for fun?"
Hey Drew, love your hacks!!! Did you know if you leave the candle filled with boiling water, all the wax will float to the top and when cooled the wax comes out in one piece and if big enough can be remelted and reused in another candle! Absolutely no wasting your favourite smells!!
Another thing you can do is stick the candle vessel in the freezer. It helps shrink the size of the wax a bit and creates a stronger bond within the wax itself. You can generally pretty easily pop it out in one piece from one of the edges with a butter knife. I add these to my wax stash to remelt as well.
I bought a mug warmer off amazon years ago, but never really used it for its intended purpose. Now I use it to melt the last bit of wax from my candles, and pour it into an empty vessel with a new wick to make a layered FrankenCandle.
That's too much work for me. Just like another commenter just said, I also just use a mug warmer to melt the wax while at the same time filling the room with the aroma. I reuse it many times before I decide to move that wax to another vessel or discard it. It's also a way to create a "flameless" candle.
Wow, great content. I sure could have used that cuphook idea two weeks ago. We are setting up a quilt shop where we hang quilts from the 11' ceilings. They get switched out every so often. We attached a 2" wide finished pine straight piece of trim at the ceiling all around the room with cuphooks placed every 8". Using little curtain hook clips attached to the quilts we hook them over the cup hooks. Your duvet changing idea is a great one, especially for the elderly , those who have been using he pillow technique to change their duvet. My Mom would have really appreciated that hack when she was still with us. The tape and cauking ideas are also golden. .
I am so amazed with the talents you are blessed with. You have a huge gift and I can't wait to view more of your videos. I was drawn to watch your video where you showed your landlord the amazing upgrades you made to your rental apartment. It was too beautiful...his reaction was priceless(which almost brought me to tears), but the video showed how you genuinely cared about how he felt about the changes (great compassion)and for that I subscribed and commented. I have never commented on anyone's videos because it takes a lot to impress or amaze me lol (ask my 5 children) I applaud you ...I look forward to watching more of your creative work!!!!
The calking hack was brilliant! But I’m going to keep it a secret from my husband until it’s time to use it so that I can look like a “Builder Diva”!😅😅❤️
About the caulking, my husband's usually has a wet rag with him Keeping his finger moist as he caulks it works ! Love all of your hacks. I will definitely use the light switch plate hack for sure Thanks so much
My daughter introduced me to you and now I cant get enough! You gave me the confidence to start working on my bathroom and bedroom. I loved this video, but my favorite was the screw hooks! Stupid simple, but so ingenious! BTW we are doing our bathroom using the board and batten on the walls and I took your suggestion of the color (backwoods) and we couldnt be happier with this choice. Love all the moody rooms you do too! Keep making those videos! Love you!!
#8 making a tape grid on your flower vase is something I've been doing for years to better arrange my fresh flower!!! It definitely helps with odd shaped vase openings especially
I just discovered your videos and am in love with them. Your caulk hack was genius. I would just like to add to your removal of candle wax from its container. I have always just placed the jar in my sink and fill the sink with hottish water up to the level just before the container floats and let it sit in the sink in the water for a little while to loosen the wax from the sides (not long at all). Then, just take a paper towel and wipe the wax out. It isn't messy at all and the wax comes out clean.
I can honestly say that I didn't know the duvet cover hack. That totally blew my mind! Thanks for a truly useful and awesome video! Gonna save this one to my "favorites" list for sure. Love your channel, Drew! ♥️
You can also take a damp washcloth and press it firmly along your painter's tape before painting to seal it. It helps prevent bleeds also. You just have to make sure you pull off the tape before the paint dries. Additionally, speaking of painter's tape, if you put down painter's tape before caulking the excess gets on the tape, not the surface you don't want caulked, and the clean-up is less messy and your caulking lines will be more crisp/clean.
I could watch your videos all day everyday Drew. Great hacks, favorite hack is the writing paint color on back of outlet cover- I’ve done this in my home and super helpful. Candle vase removal with boiling water plus the sticker is great!
So helpful! My favorite tip you have shared is how to hang pictures using a piece of tape to mark the nail holes. I have used it many, many times. Going to try the caulk tip!
While you have that outlet cover or switch plate off, write the number of the breaker that controls it on the underside. Saves time in trying to read the terrible writing on the breaker panel (if it was even filled out). Of course, test the outlet with a lamp or radio before you work on it, if you don't have a circuit tester
👋You can also place your candle jars in the freezer, allow them to totally freeze and when you remove them from the freezer the candle wax will actually pop right out. If it doesn't, just coax it a little bit with a knife and it comes right out! I've been doing it this way for years. 😁Great Hacks! Thanks so much. 💖
You have such a fun personality! You’re fun to watch and your responses to the photo bomber fly were perfect! I love the caulk tip, the vase in a vase tip and the make your own tree tip. I’d just like to know where to get the leaves.
Book covering brings back memories of when I was in school. We had to either buy book covers or make our own. Usually we used old grocery paper bags and then decorated them with gel pens, sharpies, and stickers.
You are wonderful! 💕 I love the idea of the white marker to clean wall. It reminded me of my aunt’s favorite hack to fill nail holes-take an aspirin and add a little water to make it soft and press on to the hole. I’m so glad I found your space. ☺️
Honestly, you continue to crush it. I really appreciate how you take the time to find these hacks, try them out, and compile them into a super helpful video. I always learn something new with you! Thank you so much for sharing and for just being you! Also that fly.... the comedic timing was spot on. I mean seriously; learning & laughing...what more can you ask for?! Thanks Drew!
I have to face up to the fact that I am old when I watch Drew..lol The book cover things we did as a necessity when I was young. Buying a book cover was not an option. The grid on the wider vases also has been around for years. But I like him and enjoy his discoveries. He's very good with designing.

Great show! Love the duvet rolling technique tip. I’ve been doing this for years with a bit of a struggle - and now I know the opening should be at the bottom and that I should roll from the headboard to the footboard. Thanks.
I love what you did with your apartment! I've always put time and money into my apartments, people tell me I'm crazy because it's not mine and I'm wasting my money. I say it's my home for the time being and I am willing to put the time and energy plus money into as I want to be comfortable, it is my home after all.
What I do with my linen sheets is actually putting them in the dryer for 30 mins to heat up the moisture and then when still damp, I put them on the bed as you would dry. Literally wrinkle free when they're done drying.
I would think that would add dampness into the mattress so not a very good idea. One thing you don’t want is damp getting trapped in the mattress so then you are dealing with mold and mildew.
Little tip with frog tape instead of needing to pre paint with previous wall colour you can wipe with a slightly damp rag and wipe down the edge it activates the ingredient on the back of tape (that’s why it comes in a plastic container)
I'm new to following you and I have to say, I will return every time you post!! Great tips, you're so right on topic, no wasted time and today....that fly had me in stitches...or should I say, your reaction every time he flew by made me LOL!! Thanks for sharing great information!!

omg, the duvet tip was amazing! I've been turning mine inside out, grabbing the corners, and shaking the cover down (similar to how you did the pillow), but the rolling up looks so much easier! These were all great, thank you for sharing them!
Yeah, that’s a great tip … as long as your duvet opens all the way along the bottom. Neither of mine are open that much, and I haven’t been able to utilize any of these nifty hacks. But they ARE awesome if your duvet works with it!
@@DawnDavidson I have a couple like that. One thing I did was sew loops onto the corners of my duvet and ties to the duvet cover on the inside. That way i can tie the two together and shake it down. It also stops the duvet from shifting inside and puddling at the bottom of the cover. I got the idea from my cover that came from West Elm which came with ties already.
Great tips - thank you. I do something similar to tip one for the taper candles. I use a cheap paraffin tealight to drip a bit into the candle holder and then stick the candle to it. Works quite nicely with glass and crystal candle holders because you don't get the possible burn marks near the bottom of the candle.
Hi Drew, I have an even easier way to put on the pillowcase, it is the nurses way. It uses one hand to grab the outside closed end of pillowcase. Push this end through the open end, grab pillow and peel the pillowcase down over the pillow. It is very fast and was develped so a nurse did not hold pillow against their body. You can google it to see a video if you want
Love your faux tree trick! I'm going to try taking it a little further. I'm going to try to turn my cat tree into a faux tree so it can serve as both! I saw one in an expensive store but it was $1,000! This is going to take some experimentation but I know the cat(s) will love it if it's more like a real tree AND it will look SO much nicer in any room of my home! Thanks for the inspiration!

When I last painted my hallway with 13 doors, I found a shoe polish bottle with the applicator on the end and filled with leftover paint. That was for touchups. Not my original idea but saved me a few headaches.
@@lynnmaupin-simpson1215 the shoe polish bottle idea is definitely one I am going to utilize!
Goo Gone works really well. I always have a bottle around because it works on other sticky substances like gum, tar, and shoe scuff marks.
That is the best…removed paint too
Your tip on covering the books brings back memories of us having to cover our textbooks with grocery bags. Now you know I’m a boomer!
Older Millenial and we did this too. 😊
One of my favorite things to do at the start of the school year. Thanks for the memories!
Omgosh paper grocery bags. I’m a younger millennial and my dad always made us do this for every class.
I remember using contact paper to cover the books 😂
The comic sect of the newspaper.
Very nice!!

For clean paint lines with tape, if you don't have the original wall color you can use matte mod podge. It will also fill in the bleed area with clear then paint your new color. Perfect line.

As for removing the candles you can also freeze them and they pop right out. 🎉
As for the caulking if you have a small bucket and a sponge 🧽 you keep your finger wet and run the sponge across it after your finger it has a clean finished look. 😉
Thanks for the tips I’m going to try them out soon . 😊

I'd be worried that if anything happens to my phone, I'd loose everything.
@@sazennonumber Just upload it to a cloud. Google Images, for example, is one you'll probably always have access to.
You need to be careful with the caulking hack though. It was done in my kitchen and detergent in the soap dissolved black dye in the caulking leaving the black spots on the wooden kitchen counter.

WD-40 for sticker removal has always worked the best for me. When I was in grade school (I'm old), every year we had to cover our school text books with paper grocery bags. Great video!
We would do the same at my school as well!
Yes haize2005!!! I had to paper bag wrap my textbooks too! It was also great to be able to doodle and put stickers on your books afterward. 😊
we used something - not paperbags but something we had to all together do some origami folds and voila, a bookcover
I'm old too. We always covered our textbooks since we had to return them to the school in good condition. Sometimes in late August, grocery stores would have stacks of papers for book covers that were free for the taking. One side was printed with advertisements, but the other side was blank. I enjoyed decorating the covers.
Same here on the book coverings. It was always paper grocery bags
I simply paint the inside of a socket plate in each room. Stop before reaching the edges, though, to keep it from sticking.
@@TheAureliac That is a really good idea. I never even thought about that.

Use washi tape to secure paper covers to your books to prevent damaging the inside covers when you remove the tape. Also, put spent candleholders in the fridge or freezer; the old wax will just pop out.
I cover books with holiday or gift wrap. Fold the wrap as you would for school books, as you did as a youngster.
Krys Galentin thank you for the tips

Oh cool 😃 definitley less work than melting it
I've been freezing my old wax for Years. Love how it slides right out!
I am surprised he didn't know this one.
I do this with my wax melts
I do the same but I make firestarters with the wax. I fill a cardboard egg carton with dryer lint, shredded paper, ect and pour melted wax over this then separate the cups. They're great for camping or backyard firepits especially when there's too much dampness to easily start the fire.
Incredible hacks, so high end. You’re such a lovely young man and I’m always in awe of the things you make. Happy New Year 🥳 😅🎉🎉xx
Not from /in the USA, what is Flex Seal? And what is it used for?
Love all the tips! ❤ Thank you Drew. Can I add a tip for you on the caulking? I worked in a tiling store and learnt from the pros, use clear window/glass cleaner to smooth caulking rather than soap. The alcohol in the cleaner vaporises off so if you have any little bubble holes in caulking you can add more, soap can leave a residue which can sometimes affect filling in the little holes. I've done this trick for years swear by it, also have used this trick to add enamel paint touch ups like on stoves and fixing car duco. Spray the cleaner on your finger and wipe across. 🤗
Great tips thank you 🙂
Thanks!
I reuse candle jars also. I glue a clear drawer pull to the top. Super cute.
Also on the sticker removal one, if you add just a bit of dawn or some type of liquid soap, it comes off even better & quicker. I've been doing the water method for years. So glad you pointed it out for others to benefit from!
I do same but there are some labels where the glue still sits there and do not want to go :)
Use the sticker itself and dab onto the remaining residue repeatedly. It will pick them up slowly until they are very few left and then proceed with the soapy water technique.
Another trick is to spray the sticker with WD40 and let it sit. Even the most stubborn stickers will come off using WD40.
Also hand sanitiser or any alcohol like metho etc
oil and baking soda , let it sit, watch it go. You can wash it after nicely (since water is involved anwyay)

I usually use a little cooking oil to soak the sticker and a spatula to scrape it off (into the bin/trash). Saves your drain and nails lol.
Great info. Simple but helpful.
@@HannahRainbow88 Exactly, any oil, including Vaseline, olive, wd-40, hand moisturizer, et.al. I've even used chapstick to remove a sticker or label.
Hannah knows whats up! Soaking the label w/H2O may be helpful but not necessary, slathering with an oily substance should allow scraping off; then add more and continue rubbing with paper towel to remove any residual. Should you use water, soak the label, then try working it off without continually holding under a running faucet, you know, like when brushing your teeth😁
Please conserve water anytime you can, it is a precious & limited resource.
Took hours. 😩😥

Instead of the Fix-it stick to fill nail holes you can also use white tooth paste. Thousands of military families will attest on how great this works and it's cheap. (Military housing has white walls) -- Thanks for your ideas/suggestions.
Toothpaste is a dorm room moving-out hack as well!

Thanks!
Thanks!
Also, touch the back (sticky side) as little as possible. I can't remember if it a) removes the substance that swells to prevent the bleed or b) the moisture on your skin activates it before you want it to or c) does both.
And thanks for the water mister tip.

If the glue doesn't come off with water (but the paper did) the glue in 99% of cases can be just wiped/rubbed off with e.g. canola oil and paper towel.
If this doesn't work it is heat sensitive glue. Whenever possible I then just microwave the thing (a jar for example) fow a while with some water in it and then remove the melted glue with paper towels.
Goo-Gone also works.
I really enjoyed your tips! This is the first time I have ever paid attention to any "hacks". Mostly because I thought 'What was the point of them for a woman in the winter of her life?" But now I think, "Why can"t you do something just for fun?"
The 2 different vase ideas are genius. I do my duvet like that without standing on the bed or the paramedics would have to come. Thank you!
Hey Drew, love your hacks!!! Did you know if you leave the candle filled with boiling water, all the wax will float to the top and when cooled the wax comes out in one piece and if big enough can be remelted and reused in another candle! Absolutely no wasting your favourite smells!!
OMGGG!!!

@@ShelleB it works best with lightweight duvets, if that helps.
Right! So mind blown by that tip.
I love your energy!!

My jaw dropped at the screwhook hack! I’ve diyed my entire house, and I can’t wait to put more hooks up now just to try it! Absolutely genius 🥰
Best video!! Love that you describe & then demonstrate how to do what you are doing! Every tip is 100%!!!
I have to face up to the fact that I am old when I watch Drew..lol
The book cover things we did as a necessity when I was young. Buying a book cover was not an option. The grid on the wider vases also has been around for years. But I like him and enjoy his discoveries. He's very good with designing.
Omg! This was the first video of yours that I’ve watched, Great Hacks!!! Also, you are very easy to listen to, and watch. My favorite hack is spritzing soapy water over wet caulk for no smears!!! Can’t wait to try this.
Thank you!
Doris~
Same. No money is ill spent if your space makes you happy
1000% and its practice for when you own your place to then make things PERFECT!!!
WOW...I really LOVE LOVE LOVE your IDEAS...simple yet elegant...THANK YOU SO MUCH!
When you post my day instantly gets better ❤️🔥
Loved the tip about the hook/screws and reusing candle containers!!
LOVED the paint bleed prevention hack ...the caulk-smoothing hack is a close 2nd!
I bet once your landlord sees the amazing work you have done to this apartment, he won't want you to change a thing. It is AMAZING! I love the colors that you select. Best wishes on your new home and I can't wait to see what you do!! :)
You are absolutely amazing 🤩
omg, the duvet tip was amazing!
So many great ideas here that seem highly doable and not very costly. Thank you and, yes, keep them coming!
I gotta check this out!
You are a blessing!! Thank you for all you do!
