Cool tip with the toilet rolls but you'd probably not have to even take the curtains down, just cut a line down one side of the toilet roll and you can probably just pop them in
Awesome tip... I was wondering if the glue might melt on the electric tape from the hot sunshine on the windows over time... washi tape is thinner and might stick more seamlessly
I came here to say this, too. Electrical tape becomes a nasty gummy mess after about 6 months. I actually think paint would be best. You can paint glass. You can oaint window frames.
@@amylaw3416 yes! Just get the coverage on trim….don’t worry about it getting on the glass ! Fresh paint peels off super easily….buy a $3blade (that comes with the handle ) at hardware store -draw a line down the edge of freshly painted trim with the blade and razor the paint off the glass in one pce. ! …it’s so gratifying.. it’s like peeling a sunburn ! Lol quick and easy , exact perfect paint lines (if it’s black and you’re worried) MUCH faster than taping windows! It’s actually better to get the paint on the glass ! and seal the crease where the wood trim meets the glass…. let it dry slightly then score a line down the edge (with a new seal made by the paint) before sliding the blade under.
The rechargeable lights in sconces is so smart. I’ve wanted sconces but can’t hardwire into apartments, this solves that problem and its so simple thank you for mentioning this!!!
1. use toilet paper rolls to space curtain pleats 2. for wall pieces with nail holes on both sides, use painters tape as stencil (with a water level) 3. buy pillow inserts that are slightly too large for fluffier looking pillows 4. get large pots for plants and stuff the bottom to make plants look larger 5. use electrical tape to create window cross bars 6. use matte or eggshell finishes if you want dark paint to come out as dark as possible 7. use rechargeable lightbulbs for lamps where you don't have outlets 8. to prevent paint bleeding when using painters tape, paint a first coat in the original colour and let dry first 9. use lipstick to stamp 2 points of reference, eg a handle with 2 screws 10. create templates from eg butcher paper when making a gallery wall

As for picture frames with a hanger on each side of the frame? I usually run a wire or strong nylon cord between each frame hanger and then hang on the wall using the wire/cord over a single centered nail. Winding a pipe cleaner around the center of the wire/cord prevents the picture frame from sliding over the nail or swinging back and forth after the frame is hung.
@@simoneh.815 Very true as I've discovered as much...and yet most framed artworks and other framed pieces are hung on single nails and even screws. Thanks for chiming in.

Tip 8- you’re supposed to lightly wet the painters tape, let it dry, then paint. The moisture causes the tape to swell and closes up those gaps. Painting with the original color does the same thing and really isn’t necessary. Also use a very dry brush with the paint. Too watery causes seepage into the tape edge. Do a really dry brush, let it dry then use a heavier application and remove the tape immediately so it doesn’t rewet the tape. Frog type tapes aren’t meant to be painted on before lightly wetting and letting dry.
Great tips!! Another tip I have for getting crisp lines with painters tape, in case you don’t have the original color on the walls, is to use a matte mod podge. Works like a charm 👌🏻

Love the tip about using rechargeable bulbs. The batteries in most puck lights do not last long. Also love the tip about using cardboard tubes as spacers in the curtain. I would probably paint them the same color as the curtain. When it comes to using lifts inside your pots, using a tray on top or just inside the pot makes it easier to lift off the moss or whatever “soil” covering you use. If you have something useful under your plant, you’ll be much happier retrieving those items if you plan ahead. I like to just turn the planter into a table base and put a large enough tray or table top on it that I can use it like a side table. I do this by either creating a key hole for the plant or dividing the top in half with a central hole like a donut.
I love how you reused your paint cans to elevate your olive tree! My fave eco-friendly hack is to reuse throw pillows as inserts instead of buying inserts. 🥰
Do that all the time. Also, if your throw pillows start to look under-filled over time, remove the cover and slip some old t shirts on the insert until it fills the pillow cover again completely. Two of my husbands old t shirts work on an 18 inch insert to get the pillow looking full again. (And I don’t have to lie about throwing away the old shirts, LOL.)
I worked at a place where I sold picture frames, and I learned that depends on the frame strength is the reason for the different types of hooks. Never put a wire through the two hooks on a heavy picture or mirror. That pulls the frame inwards over time and breaks it. I couldn't imagine a small child or pet walking by the heavy mirror when it finally gives.
@@jadedelarge8929 so right!….A Hooks on each side of ANY thing heavy or large should be removed! That’s what gravity bars are for- and what is used to professionally hang in museums and art galleries. Hey Drew! I thought I knew every toilet paper roll hack..... but this one is the best of all. I use mine to put around wrapping paper rolls to keep them closed. The painting technique is also genius, as I do a lot of painting in my crafts!
@@olbird7647 I do this to stop rolls of bin liner/trash bags from unraveling. Those dang D-rings- sometimes they aren't lined up on the frame, so all of the effort with tape still results in a crooked frame when hung. The older and crankier I get, the more I like just twisting picture wire tightly between the D-rings and using one hook in the middle, resulting in less colorful language and more time to rest on my decorating laurels. Great videos and hacks as always- never saw the toilet paper roll one before, and also didn't know there was such a thing as rechargeable light bulbs! Thank you so much, and also, thank you for your wonderful personality. A day with a Lone Fox video is a better day!
I can sympathize with the older crankier thing. I don't remember wanting to bang my head against the wall when hanging pictures when I was younger. The head banging doesn't help at all with the picture alignment😉
Drew... I know this isn't the feedback that's appropriate or good feedback but.... anytime I've had a stressful day I love to binge your videos because I always get a good nap out of the deal. Your videos are so soothing lol
For tip 2, make sure you measure the distance from the top of the frame to each hanger bc they often aren’t exactly the same and if you don’t, your hung picture may not be level.
Originally a hanger on each side was there to string wire between the two- so that you have more play and can move a picture (or a mirror hung on a wire/line) to the exact right position....i.e. “up a bit on the right”
I love watching hack videos as it reminds me how creative and inventive humans are. Always lifts my spirits in addition to providing great hacks to simplify and ease life.
Hello Drew. I’m new to your channel but I am enjoying it so much. Thank you. I prepare my own artwork for exhibitions and it is usually a requirement to have two D hooks - one each side of an artwork, even when they are small. I take a length of nylon chord or a wire and thread it through both and tie it in a knot. When hanging just pull the chord up in the middle, making an upside down V. Measure from the top of V to top of frame to determine where to place one nail/ screw in the wall. This is great for artwork that for some reason doesn’t hang level, as you can easily adjust it. You can raise or lower the height of picture without moving the nail by hanging on single side of chord loop or by two.
You can simply string picture wire between the two hangers on a frame. Then put your nails wherever you wish. I recommend using two for maximum support. It is simple to level a picture hanging by wire, even if the nails are at different heights : )
One of my favorite ways to hide cords dangling cords is to use a cord cover + plant. I used this with my TV cords... Command strip to attach the cord cover to the wall and paint it the same color as the wall. Then place a plant right in front of the cord cover so blend it all into the wall. I put my plant on the credenza and the top of the plant ends just below the bottom of the TV, so it completely covers the cord!
DEAR LONE FOX, I JUST WATCHED YOUR 10 GINUIS HOME HACKS, THESE TIPS ARE SO HANDY, THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND THE CHANCE TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE THINGS AT HOME EASY.
Wow, so many great tips! The curtain spacers, rechargeable light, puck lights for sconces are my favorites, but the painting straight lines is also a great one. Thanks so much!
Awesome painting tip. I’ve been doing all the painting in our homes over 40 years and I have never managed to get a crisp line without bleeding. That’s brilliant. I’ll be trying this one out. Thank you so much!
The toilet paper rolls between the curtain pleats is genius! Also, who knew there were rechargeable light bulbs?! When we bought our 8 room house, we had only 5 outlets in the whole house! Of course we updated the electrical over the years, but we never have enough outlets!! Thanks for all your tips!❤️
The TP spacers are great. I used them in just 2" pieces and it looks amazing on a few small windows in my guest room. I had not seen that before. Thank you for sharing this idea!
Hi Lone Fox!! I think the 2 picture hangars are so you can tightly install picture wire from one loop to the next so that the frame hangs straight. For instance, if you put 2 screws in the wall, about 2 inches apart, and leveled, you then hang the wire on the nails and the frame won’t slip over time and make it crooked.
What syncronicity! In my decluterring this morning, I found a stash of toilet paper rolls. I thought they'd get recycled, but instead I'll use them in my curtains! I also had a collection of decorative sticks (much cuter than this description makes them sound haha) in an opaque 18" vase in my bedroom. They just didn't seem right, so I tried putting a 6" plant pot inside the vase - it fit perfectly, another bit of synchronicity! With the literal elevation, the sticks now feel cohesive because their tops are at the same level as the top of my closet door.
For hardware with two screws: use the stamping method on a piece of scrap wood and drill the holes. This will create a really sturdy and easy-to-use template for drilling holes. You even can clamp the template down on whatever you want to put the hardware in. Super handy, especially when having to level something. This method makes it also really easy when you have a couple of drawers, you want to make sure the handles are on the exact same spot. Just make sure the wood is centered and the holes on the template are level compared to the edge of the wood.
@@amyberkheimer7996 From the Outside. It's the easiest way. Theoretically, you could drill from the inside too, but sometimes you will have problems fitting the drill inside the drawer. Plus, if you're just changing the hardware or adding some if there hasn't been some added yet, it's the easiest way to go from the outside. If you're worried about messing up your drawer front: that usually doesn't happen while drilling. When you're drilling in the drawer, the wood shouldn't crack or look fuzzy. It's a howl different story when you're cutting wood with a saw. But to avoid it getting "fuzzy" or having little pieces chip off the surface while doing so, you could actually tape the area you're cutting with painter's tape. Make your mark on top of that and saw with the tape on. Your edges should look clean and smooth. If you're really worried about drilling on the outside of your furniture, you could use the tape trick as well while drilling. I'm just not 100% sure how the drill takes it. But it should be fined.
I love the idea of hanging the picture or mirror with 2 nails by using the tape. I didn’t know how to hang my mirror and it still stands on the floor. Now I know! Genius!

I use picture hanging wire. I thought that's what they were for.
I can sympathize with the older crankier thing. I don't remember wanting to bang my head against the wall when hanging pictures when I was younger. The head banging doesn't help at all with the picture alignment😉
Omg. Tape idea is brilliant! I may actually hang some of my things now.
Drew... I know this isn't the feedback that's appropriate or good feedback but.... anytime I've had a stressful day I love to binge your videos because I always get a good nap out of the deal. Your videos are so soothing lol
Soothing g!!??
I really appreciate how fast you talk. It saves me frustration. Keep on going strong.
Saw people using a pool noodle for that first curtains tip also! You can easily cut it to size with a knife.
Thanks for the tip.
Tks, bendiciones desde Merida Yucatan 🇲🇽
The acting with the chord was so funny. I'll definitely be trying that toilet paper roll and the electrical tape hacks
The painter's tape for hanging pictures/mirrors with two hangers is genius!! Those things have driven me nuts and this is perfect. Thanks!
Lmao the acting during the lamp part. That was an Oscar winning performance by Drew.
I LOVE the pleated lamp shade by the way. ❤️
I believe me made that..?
@@julesoyler4306 do you know which video that is from?
The gallery wall one is pure genius. You really did save the best for last 💕
Brilliant tips Drew, thank you. I’ll be using several of them but the first is to get a rechargeable bulb so I can have a lamp in my porch at last.
8. Is life changing
Thank you for your graciousness towards the English Family. You are a gift. Enjoy your channel.
You can simply string picture wire between the two hangers on a frame. Then put your nails wherever you wish. I recommend using two for maximum support. It is simple to level a picture hanging by wire, even if the nails are at different heights : )
My thoughts exactly, I have never known anyone nail two holes into the wall.
OK, my 1st Lone Fox video & the 1st thing you did >>> curtain TP Roll ????!!!! Gobsmacked, Count me in , I'm hooked.
Love the pillow idea. Tape trick for hanging pics and templates. Wow all hacks!!! Awesome.
I just love this beautiful human being and appreciate how he share with all his heart his knowledge… Thanks ❤️
DEAR LONE FOX, I JUST WATCHED YOUR 10 GINUIS HOME HACKS, THESE TIPS ARE SO HANDY, THANK YOU FOR
YOUR TIME AND THE CHANCE TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE THINGS AT HOME EASY.
I only started watching his Videos a month ago but now I'm hooked. I have so much new home decor now! Drew you are a Legend! :)
Love that you talk fast! So many hosts talk so slowly & with superfluous info that listening is too time consuming! Thanks!
About to install a massive gallery wall and that last tip couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Thanks Drew! You are cute as a button❣️
Gold! The painters tape trick for painting stripes is worth the whole video!
Wow, so many great tips! The curtain spacers, rechargeable light, puck lights for sconces are my favorites, but the painting straight lines is also a great one. Thanks so much!
I thank you for all the wonderful tips, the Toilet paper roll is a great idea, the painting , the art gallery , it’s all great.
Rechargeable light bulbs?! Wow, those will come in handy. Thanks Drew!!
I love the black tape for windows tip! Never would've thought of that!!! YAY! AWESOME!
I’m only on the tp curtain hack, that is such a good free idea and looks fantastic!
I LOVE your green vase in the back. Especially w whatever greenery is in it. I want that! :)
So calming and aesthetic! Your videos always make me smile!
Fancy giving a thumbs down to people offering handy tips on youtube. That painting tip is amazing!!!
The TP spacers are great. I used them in just 2" pieces and it looks amazing on a few small windows in my guest room. I had not seen that before. Thank you for sharing this idea!
So helpful! The rechargeable light bulbs are a game changer. I hate ugly cords. The tip about painting stripes is genius. Thank-you!
Hi Lone Fox!! I think the 2 picture hangars are so you can tightly install picture wire from one loop to the next so that the frame hangs straight. For instance, if you put 2 screws in the wall, about 2 inches apart, and leveled, you then hang the wire on the nails and the frame won’t slip over time and make it crooked.
painting over the tape with base color! OMG! so love that!
Love these tips, especially the one to get a crisp line when painting. I'll definitely be using that one. Thank you!
Wow! The first and last one are so amazing. I knew about using paper to map out the gallery wall but putting the nail hole marks is just awesome!!!
You just CHANGED my LIFE with the rechargeable light bulbs!
OMG!
How have I NEVER heard of this until NOW???!
THANK YOU!
I am currently redecorating and rearranging - so this video comes in handy!

6:36 “stuff extra trash” in the flower pot….. 😳 hold up whaaaaaa? 🤣
Okay this may be a dumb question but when drilling your holes on say drawers do your drill from the outside or inside of the drawer?
I do the same but use cardboard as my template for an easier and cheaper way.
Holy crap. Tip number 8 for making crisp lines when painting…. Mind. Blown. 😲
Love your aesthetics so much it's contemporary midcentury modern with warm tones
I love the idea of hanging the picture or mirror with 2 nails by using the tape. I didn’t know how to hang my mirror and it still stands on the floor. Now I know! Genius!
I am hanging some curtains like those this weekend and have a stash of toilet rolls so I will try this hack. Thanks Drew 💟
I love how fast you talk …it’s so nice to hear someone GET TO THE POINT 😉thank you
The toilet paper rolls for draperies is ingenious! That always bugs me when opening and they're all uneven!
The lightbulb idea is game changing for me. Thank you!
Drew's Canadian evil twin: Loon Fox
Don't forget Arvin O
I legit laughed out loud when I read this comment😂! Lol…
Lmfao 😂👌
Okay, that is legit funny!
Brilliant! Finally, someone who actually knows the definition of "hacks" and for using synonyms like tips and tricks versus saying hack a million times. 👏👏👏
You are an exceptional designer. While I do not post comments often, I truly love your videos. Please keep them coming...they are most helpful to those who - either by choice or by default - work alone. Besides, you have a lovely aesthetic. 💖
Favorite: All - but I must thank you for not ruining the look of your pillows by giving it a karate chop down the center. 😉🤐
The painting hack is so perfectly timed because I need to paint two rooms next week!
Oh Drew, I am so happy I found your channel. You have great information and ideas that’s going to help me out a lot. You have a wonderful day today and forever.
Great tips! Thank you. I like my curtains to look really full so I stuff the back if them with white tissue paper. The are on the sides of my windows, with white shears covering the windows. The tissue paper stays in place with a little tape. Also, bthe long foam floaties you buy at the dollar store. They can be cut into long pieces and I put them into my boots to keep all my boots from flopping over in the closet.❤️🇨🇦❤️Catherine.
Catherine awesome boot tip thank you!
Hi sweetie! I am a bilingual and seven languages, usually when people talk fast I don’t Comprehend everything, but you talk so good, very clearly, I understand every word you say!
Overall you are awesome!!
Thank you for sharing all the ideas, but if you ever decide to come to Texas, I need major help, I have a adorable Condo, because I do so many projects!
I have to renovate the whole house, soon as I find a place to move my things in, take care of yourself, and don’t ever change🙌🤗🙏🏻
Love these tips. ESP the picture hanging tip with the painters tape. Can’t wait to try this! Also love the sconces with the battery operated lights as I only like those lights for ambiance. Catch ya later loon fox!! 😂🤣😂🤣 couldn’t help myself. Lol
Oh wow, i love the toilette paper and the template tip. They are absolutely brilliant 💡!
Drew, I recently did a gallery wall and used your tip in placement and it worked so well! It turned out beautifully and I was able to change it around until I was pleased before I nailed them up. Thank you so much!
Thank you for helping Elisha English on her channel! You sir are the bomb!! Thank you!!
The picture frame tip is great! I've actually always bought pillows that were a bit smaller than the case. Not bigger 🙈 but that's gonna change now 😁
Thank you so much for saving Elysia and Phil English and their channel. I had never heard of you before you helped them. You are wonderful and I enjoyed your ten tops video. ❤
Love home decor hacks! Keep them coming!!!
