My sons friend did a lot of things to his rental place. The landlord told him to leave everything, as it made the place look nicer. Only to try and keep his deposit for not leaving it how he found it. Good job he recorded the conversation. He won in court, plus extra money 😊

Landlords tend to be so corrupt. Mine remodeled his dumpy house and sold it for 1 million. And then he sent me the remodel bill?

Hi Drew! I wanted to suggest a really nice hack for wallpaper and rental property. My husband was in the military for 26 years and we moved a LOT. One thing I would do that was super nice and easy easy . It’s using fabric as wallpaper and hanging it with Stay-blu liquid starch. As long as pre wash the super dark fabrics, it peals right off when you move and it’s really nice and works great. We did it so so many times. I’d keep and reuse the fabric from home to home and if I fell in love with a certain fabric I’d just get extra to cover future walls.
Please give it a try! Thanks Vicki 😊💕

Velcro command strips hands down. If something’s too heavy and wants to come down, the Velcro goes not the strip so no damage. Also the Velcro strips are easier to remove and I know 16 large ones can hold a glass shadow box that weighs 8lbs so those suckers are the best

I haven't read all the comments, so maybe someone else has suggested this, but I always make my own wallpaper paste with cornstarch and water (heated and cooled). It adheres really well, but when it's time to come off, you can just dampen the wallpaper and then wipe the cornstarch slime 😆off the walls. It does work better however if the walls aren't painted in flat paint. But rentals usually use some level of gloss for durability, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Great to know which ones of these are 'Lone Fox approved'! Unfortunately for me, the only thing I've used peel-and-stick for is my kitchen countertops. 😞I can concur that it was a royal pain in the behind to install it. My sink is circular which made fitting round it even worse. The end result wasn't perfect but it looks better than what was there previously.
There was one spot where the backing paper somehow twisted round as I was sticking it. Turns out that the two sides of the backing paper are not the same and you can't peel it off the wrong side without leaving paper reside on the sticky surface. This left me with a patch near the sink where you can see a 'bubble' that's not fully stuck down, but I've managed to hide it with a rubber draining mat.
I can't say much about the longevity as I've only had mine down about 4 months. I did paint it with several coats of yacht varnish though to try to make it more durable. I don't put hot pans on it, and I do any cutting on a granite worktop board to minimise the chance of any damage. I'm not in a rental any more but I can't afford to do a proper kitchen reno. I used the peel-and-stick and painted the nasty melamine cupboards and gave them new hardware to give the space a bit of a facelift until such time as I can afford to get it redone (who knows when that will be? - not looking likely on current trends!).

For the wallpaper tip as well, make sure whichever you use is applicable for the type of paint on your wall. I decided to not use any wallpaper on my current apartment, though I desperately wanted to, because except for bathrooms and the kitchen, the apartment has flat paint, which I read is easily ripped off when you pull down wallpaper, even peel and stick.
I did read an article or two of a hack with using clothing starch to adhere regular wallpaper to the wall instead, but there are no videos on RUclips recent enough that I would trust on this. Most who did this showed it in really old videos and weren't 100% certain on the type of paint on their walls when I ask them (and it was hard to tell what kind they had in the video).

This was a very helpful video. Great honest feedback. We have used peel and stick floor tiles as a solution while we save up for new floors. We had mixed success. It is sticking very well in the bathroom where it was installed over old tile. The kitchen floor was a pain because it is a wooden subfloor and not completely even in places. We used the special primer to paint the floor first but the tiles still did not stick properly. We ended up having to pull a bunch up and use double sided carpet tape where all the seams are 😝. Overall we are happy with the floors I just think I didn’t have a proper understanding of the product when I started.

Watched lots of other content on peel and stick an no one else ever talked about the paint curing issue, or how improperly painted walls can affect how a product adheres etc. you’re going to save lots of renters a ton of grief with those tips. I wish someone had told me about the contact paper issues before I tried doing it in my kitchen. Disaster! I even used the good expensive stuff and it was a nightmare to apply. My countertops are hideous but that process was worse! I’m just living with ugly brown laminate and dealing with it. Waste of over 100 bucks on that product!! Thanks Drew, excellent tips.

Not sure if you have this in the States but up here in Canada we have pre-glued wallpaper. You just drop the length needed in tray of water that is designed for it and then hang it like any other type of wallpaper. It's a bit slippy but that's good for moving it into place. For getting wallpaper off I'd suggest a water bottle with some fabric softener in it. Just spray down the wallpaper (make sure it's really wet) wait a few minutes and the paper comes right off.
Thanks for the rental friendly tips!!

I did the black tape down my glass display unit to look like bars back in the day but I'd love to try it on my windows.

Love your content. Always watch. If I call the full home makeover you did, you used peel and stick countertops for their bathroom. Have you gotten any updates from the family?

No joke about the tape sliding off the window! 😂 Living in Vegas I had that happen to the tint at the top of my windshield (yes it was professionally installed but several years old?) and a wreath on my front door disintegrated because the hot glue melted!

Hi Drew. There is a spray that you can spray on wall before applying the peel and stick and it allows you time to maneuver the wall paper around. I have not used it yet, maybe you can give a video on it to see if it works.

    Drew,
What is a renter friendly upgrade option for tiled countertops?

This is random, but when you were halfway peeling off the Peel-and-stick backsplash tiles, and it exposed sections of the original tile behind the sink, that looked DOPE.
