Great review. Yes, the high clipons do indeed fit with front the cowling. I had them put on mine and it makes for a much more comfortable riding position.

G'day mr Chops. Loved the video. This bike is the ultimate Cafe Racer full stop. it's something the Brits do very very well. In my younger day it was the Velo Thruxton, BSA Goldie, Triton and the Norvin, there's a lot more in that category to come. All brilliant.
Loved this Chops, you’ve managed to articulate exactly what it is about the Thruxton that just makes it such a special bike. Has to be ridden to get it.
I run the standard clip-ons with the cowl aka Fairing which lends itself to upright riding in traffic and then you can still slide your butt back for a lower riding position for more spirited riding.
I tried the previous Thruxton RS (or was it R?) and it was a cool piece of iron. Great relaxing weekend ride, can wind out gears without going too fast. Beautifully built and great design. I am generally big fan of Triumph. What I did not like about Thruxton was how narrow it was, really hard to grab it.
So. This video and the 44teeth review, is pretty much the reason for my new purchase - brand new Thruxton RS in black with the Bikini being picked up next week. One minute I was ordering a Speed 1200rs, having looked at the zh2 and even an R1. The next I’m trading in my 765rs for a bike with, turns out. The least amount of power I’ve had on a bike! Why? From, the two aforementioned reviews from Sporty riders make it sound fun, and characterful. So thank you !

Picked mine up 4 weeks ago, the racing green/silver one. I agree about the gearbox, it does seem clunky. Might just be because it's new and being run in. Torque is sooooo addictive. So much grunt. I find the suspension quite firm but I am smaller and lighter than you. One downside is V & H no longer do slip ons as an option because of Euro bloody five but standard pipes sound good anyway and there are other aftermarket ones to go for. Leaving mine alone for now though. Great vid, enjoyed watching.

Great video mate! I love the changes Triumph have made. I had the 2017 R in silver, no cowl. I added black Vance&Hines pipes, decat and remapped the ECU; the improvement in performance was definitely noticeable but the new sound was beautiful. I loved touring with it. Only two downsides were the weight, 212kg dry, which sits high making it heavy to maneuver manually, and a crap turning circle.
@@fyorbane if you wanna pay a dealer $500 to check bolt tightness and fluid levels, then go for it. Warranty expires in only 2 years, so after that just work on the bike yourself. If you have to suck up dealer costs for a couple years, so be it
Yeah the standard risers fit with the dolphin fin. I had to raise it on my thruxton R, couldn't ride it more than 40 mins without major discomfort (for me!) great bike, the torque is just addictive. Love my Speed twin now 👍🏻
I purchased a R.E. Continental GT 650 when the Triumph dealer pissed me off and wanted MRSP for a demo bike with 300 miles on it. I still have the GT and done everything to it but the S&S Big Bore. I'm now looking at the Kawi z900rs/cafe or Speed Twin or Thruxton RS. If I get one of the Kawis or Speed Twin, I'll have cash to do the 865 big bore kit on the Enfield and or get the parts from India to turn into an Interceptor (roadster). The R.E.s don't compare if you want power, and even with a Big Bore will only put out 65 Bhp. For the money I've spent on Ohlins Suspension, Tyres, S&S Cam, and other parts I could have purchased that Thruxton R. No regrets.
Looks like this sorts out my one problem with the Thruxton R, every time I cracked open the throttle my backside slid rearwards! Here's to a more sculpted seat.
Test rode the 2017 version of this bike and the quality of components on it was amazing. My conclusion was that I couldn’t see it as much more than a secondary bike but the price suggested otherwise.

Don’t think my legs will bend enough to get on them foot legs, and it would kill my wrists getting down to them clip ons. But yes the bike is a fantastic bit of kit, great review Chops you make a brilliant “salesman” 😀😃
Range on my 2017 Thruxton R is 160-180 miles so I am probably not pushing as hard as you! On a recent weekend ride at a modest pace I was getting 57+ mpg (US gallons) and I have pushed 60+ on occasion. If you wish to do a comparison with the new Hayabusa then I have a 2020 ZZR1400, just run in you are welcome to use. It is (IMO) way more refined than the original Hayabusa (I owned 5 of them over the years). I am located in Warwickshire.
My 2016 Thruxton R seems just as good but on all models they seem to have deleted the plain glossy silver metallic paint colour - you can only get a mat finish metallic silver. Id consider one if I could get one in my 2016 model paint scheme with the brushed aluminum engine casings but the RS models are overly fussy which spoil the beautiful classic Thruxton styling. Believe me the ordinary Thruxton R is plenty fast.
Would you have one of these over a Kawasaki Z900RS SE then, these look amazing but I think I'd need the standard clip on's and not the low clips on's to make it a more comfortable position.

Tbf the older Thruxton 1200 standard and R models will still give you the lovely torque rush that Lamb Chop describes but bhp is up on these at 105bhp. The 1200 R and Standard model were quoted at 96bhp but I dynoed mine at 85.7 bhp at the rear wheel and 71.44 foot lbs of torque. So they are not fast but lovely to ride sedately on that wave of torque. All power and torque on mine fell away at 105mph I kid you not. Must be deliberate engine management from Triumph.
Wrong. Your figure at the back wheel is wheel horsepower. The figure Triumph quote is a crank figure, aka brake horsepower. The reason wheel horsepower is lower than brake horsepower, is due to transmission losses.

Puts my first impressions ride video to shame 😭
Good job, Chops! I'm just not used to being that hunched over, my lower back was screaming all the way...
It is so thin, totally agree. 8 inches is too small between the legs 🤣
Will check out you're review Mr NooB :-)
@@LambChopRides thank you, sir! Appreciate your kind comments.
She sure looks pretty, lm the same love retro, but love modern performance, Triumph seem to be now filling that gap!
If you wish to do a comparison with the new Hayabusa then I have a 2020 ZZR1400, just run in you are welcome to use. It is (IMO) way more refined than the original Hayabusa (I owned 5 of them over the years). I am located in Warwickshire.
Great video as always!
Apart from the low clip ons, did your legs feel cramped?
Wow, that really is something special.
So you like it 😀😀. I like the new intro. Good work Chops 👍🏻
Thanks Lee 👍
Can you have higher bars while keeping tha fairing on?
Nice video. Thx! From France.
Great bike , love the shots you get with the 360 degree cameras, really make 's the review.
Thanks 👍
Would you have one of these over a Kawasaki Z900RS SE then, these look amazing but I think I'd need the standard clip on's and not the low clips on's to make it a more comfortable position.
Yes indeed I love the look of the low clipons but not sure I could live with the position at my age...
@@LambChopRides Cheers, I'm off to test ride one this afternoon with the cafe racing fairing and standard clip on's, I may be cancelling my Kwak Z900RS SE order depending how the test ride goes...
Best moto reviewer, hands down. Thanks, Chopsey! 👍

Wow, thanks!
A headturner for sure. 👍🏍💨
Me beeing a tall rider (190cm), Triumphs have always felt too cramped for me. How did you get along with the bike size-wise, so to speak?
Your a similar height to me and yes they are smaller bikes. Well the retro and street triple anyway it fitted me fine to ride but perhaps I did look silly on it 😂
Lamb Chop Rides Haha, you looked cool as always 😎
LambChop,
I remember You with Captain Rambunctious.
I'm wondering what's become of "Red Renna."
Last I heard, Red Moved to Munich.
She & Her Man, had a Daughter.
JS
The pant work looks a amazing on motorbike.
Yes sure does Nicolas!! And thanks for joining the members team :-)
Really nice looking bike
Hello choops I hope you are doing well, if you have to chose between the thruxton and the speed twin what bike is best? Thanks chears
Thruxton for me!! & I love the Speed Twin too.
@@LambChopRides Thanks
This is a slightly strange question but what boots are you wearing? I love them:)
They are Dainese Gore-tex boots, sorry can't remember the exact model but they do an equivalent now 👍
Thank you ill have a browse! love the vid btw@@LambChopRides
One of these or a 2024 Street Triple RS???
Tbf the older Thruxton 1200 standard and R models will still give you the lovely torque rush that Lamb Chop describes but bhp is up on these at 105bhp.
The 1200 R and Standard model were quoted at 96bhp but I dynoed mine at 85.7 bhp at the rear wheel
and 71.44 foot lbs of torque.
I stand corrected.
I want so many bikes thanks to your reviews. Another 👍

Is this really Capt rambunctious in Lamb Chop clothing? Or maybe your related. You're enthusiasm 🤠,,says it all. Nice ride my friend. Stay safe.
Nice review as always
No reviews ever show how headlights perform in the dark
As we approach the shorter days now I wonder if that's something useful?
Problem is Nigel the Gopro low light performance isnt great so not really very useful.. just comes out black more or less 😂
Headlight works great at night not quite as good as my 19 Tigers LED lights but they are very good.
R nine t cafe racer comparison comes to mind! as I have the r nine t racer
Yes thinking of trying to do a R Nine T comparison to the Speed Twin perhaps.. Dont think BMW have a Racer to lend me...
