As the owner of a 2016 thrust an hour I found your observations to be right on. Particularly that kickstand. You can however easily put on a quick shifter and it’s not that expensive. I found this bike makes me wanna go out on a summer evening, get some ice cream or coffee and just sit and look at the bike. It really is an exceptional machine. Thanks for the great video.
This video gets me buzzing for summer. Already spoke to triumph over part exing my speed twin 1200 for the green final edition. I love the noise this engine makes. And ye the stand is a pain in the arse
Where are these roads kate. Looks amazing. They say never meet your heros, i met you today at nec and you didnt disappoint. I like that your real an down to earth and i trust your judgment on bike reviews
I prefer the looks of the first gen Thruxton R circa 2017- 18 with silver/brushed aluminium tank, yellow Ohlins forks and rear shocks, brushed stainless steel V&H exhaust pipes. That was a really gorgeous bike. Triumph got the looks spot on. I just felt it wasn't quite quick enough. I think 95hp at the time. The foot pegs grounded a little too easily as well. But the rest of it was lovely.
As an owner owner of a Thruxton R for seven years you did a fair review of the likes and dislikes. I have several bikes and pushing bikes with clip ons all seem to be a little harder to move in the garage...just put it on your hip and crank it. My Thruxton R is now about the same weight as the RS your riding and with a couple of small mods has about the same horsepower. These bikes are quite flexible on the gearing they can run with ease from the stock 16/42 geared all the way up to 18/37 without much loss in acceleration.
What you love about this bike , is the-same as 70's 750-Ducatis and the later-Darmah-900 . The sound , power-delivery and plantedness of the front-end etc . I'm glad to know there's a modern (somewhat-affordable ) bike that captures that experience , there's nothing-else like it and you have to experience it to understand why people love bikes like this . I have my poor-mans version, Yamaha TR1 (your German-neighbours love them ) , it's well-sorted and with a few-mods ,putting-out a bit over 70hp , riding it is such a blast and it feels way-more than 70hp . See if you can find one, I see there are 25 on the British Registry , closer to 300 in Germany . Enjoying your Vids . Dave NZ
My favourite road, usually nip up to devils bridge from there as well. Great vid Kate and a great looking bike, glad that Triumph are making bikes this good the quality stands out. Thanks again.
Horsepower is basically top speed, what's more important to most riders is torque and the bikes weight and then where it makes that power. So you can have 2 bikes one with 150HP and another with 100HP, if they both weighed 400lbs and had a peak torque of 110nm at 4000rpm they would feel exactly the same to ride in terms of power, the only difference would be the 150HP bike would have a higher top speed. Most riders are never riding around day to day doing top speed runs unless they have a death wish.
Yep, only once ever hit my old bike's top speed, going on a motorway in the very early hours. Nothing else on the road for miles & miles, thought "Let's see what it can do". I don't feel the need to ever do that again.
The same applies to torque. When do you ever need that amount of torque coming out of a bend ? Do you always use maximum torque ? So no, torque is not the be all. If it is, buy a Harley haha. On the the other hand, buy a street triple. Less torque but it will p all over the Thruxton whilst being more agile and lighter. As they sell WAY more Street triples than Thruxtons, what’s more important to most riders can’t be torque can it ?
Love your review and comments! Great riding skill as well. 😊 You had me rolling at your gripe over the side stand. I test rode one at the dealer and when I was finished I stood there like an idiot for at least a full minute trying to find it. My husband was standing there saying "it's right under your foot peg!" It didnt dissuade me from buying the bike though. 😂
Watching the rider ahead of you really impressed on me just how quick you were in negotiating those bends and passing vehicles. You're no slouch, that's for sure.
The bike with a decat and termignoni cans is so nice. I love squirting around at 3krpm. You can hear the hard pulsing grunt of the engine. You decide to wind out a gear and it just revs and revs and revs. You look down and you still have another 3 thousand rpm to redline! So wild. Its such a refined classic that will actually perform. The RS has shorter gearing thana speed twin and definitely benefits from putting a speed twin front sprocket on it. The bike has a mile wide torque curve; no need for close ratios.
reason why clip on bars feels heavier vs flat handlebars is the leverage from the roll center. When pushing around the garage the roll center is the tire contact point, also parking lot maneuvers too. But once up to speeds, highways speeds, the roll center actually gets higher up closer to the center of gravity which is closer to the top of the wheel/tire. So now the leverage is much shorter/less with clip ons compared to handlebars. I'm really digging my SpeedTwin with Ohlins from Thruxton, Tune ECU, Tec pipe, FreeSpirit belt conversion.
I've heard a few other people say the same thing about the side stand, but I've always found it so easy and flip it down without even needing to think about it. Got to agree with you on the lack of a quickshifter. The RS should really have one as standard.
Another great vlog Kate looking forward to watching it love seeing you on two wheels lo your new swanky helmet it would look fantastic with a dark visor for the sun ride safe lovely
I have a Thruxton R, here in the States. Bought it slightly used with about 2700 miles on the clock. It’s been a very enjoyable ownership experience. I came from sport bikes with a 14 year gap where I didnt have a bike at all. The power is plenty adequate, for me at least. The handling has more capability than I have talent. All that is to say, I haven’t gone out and hit the twisties and thought: I wish I had more.
I love my T120 gold line just love the engine seems to be great gearing. 1st and 2nd gear is great around town. And I barely use 6th gear as 5th gear seems to be great for passing cars/trucks. But just the look of the bike sitting there. Everytime i stop i am surrounded by older guys telling me stories of their younger days when they owned a Triumph like back in the 60's 70's. I have the Trophy SE for distance touring but find myself riding the T120 a lot more nowadays.....
I have the speed twin with upgraded suspension. The looks 100% of what drew me to it. I can’t help but go park at in the garage occasionally. Definitely a bike you look back after it parked. The kickstand is a pain in ass though.
Well it seems you like the Thruxton rs and I can’t say anything wrong about it and since I bought it a year ago I love every single moment riding it All the best from Italy
Great video Kate! Absolute beaut of a bike! Also I love the run from Hawes to Ribblehead, we were in Hawes just last weekend. Certainly going to have to do a vlog myself up there! Roads are too good not to!
I think you(we) like this bike so much, cause it appeal’s to riding a bike back days. No heated shit al around, just riding. And don’t we al like a nice round end, not only on a bike🥰have a fab weekend, and the wheels to the tarmac. Enjoy folks👍👍
Have a 2011 it's fun I get admirers at all stops. Yes kick stand takes getting used to ,it feels light to me I'm 6ft 190lb. Been riding since 1975 owned many touring bikes Goldwing Harleys sothats my perspective. It's a day tripper Cafe racer very enjoyable has Mods suspension chassis and brit custom exhaust that give off a great tune..easy to work on. Happy with triumph quality thruxton, Bonnie ,etc. Enjoyable.
I couldn’t get on with the clip ons, so I went for a Speed Twin 1200 instead, great for the twisty bits. It’s the torque that counts. Great final review.
You're right about power delivery usually trumping outright BHP Kate. I once rode a mate's 1000cc Yamaha Thunderace and it felt lacking for fast overtakes, even though it had 30 BHP more than my own 1000 V twin. I easily blast past traffic in top, 6th gear, from 40 MPH upwards but had to change down from top, 5th gear, to 3rd on his bike, as it felt pretty flat by comparison. It was a lot smoother at low revs though, especially as it had carbs. You're too young to remember those !
The Thunderace still makes more torque than your v-twin though, it’s just taller geared. If both bikes had the same gearing the Thunderace would destroy your bike on acceleration.
I do not have a problem with the stand (will have a look next time I am on it). Heated grip kit is easy DIY option from Triumph and intergartes realy well. I would like the stearing to be a little sharper.
love my Thruxton. Took it to three track days and it was great, especially in turns in and out w/ the torque (then got left behind in the straights but who cares). Good review
I get the feeling it would be good at psychological intimidation because it can just torque straight up and out of the corners and make everyone scramble to catch up.
@@hektoerdonovan2121 the psych aspect was I think more along the lines of: Damn, that Thruxton on my ass again on entry and exit...ugh...oh, ok here comes the straight, I'll leave it in the dust now. [next corner] man, that thruxton again!
Really enjoyed the 3 segments on this TTRS. Recently got one myself (coming from a GSA since 2017). Aftermarket exhaust makes a huge diff but as you say, the looks, the handling and the engine 👌My uber professional summary would be its AMAZEBALLS 🤓😎🙏be good if you get to compare with the showcase/fairing version (as mine) with the lowered clip-ons. Keep up the great work 🙏
I wonder if there's maybe an aftermarket extension piece you could put on the side stand, maybe in rubber or suchlike, that'd just show where it is when you're looking down? Just something that'd stick out a couple of centimetres so you can see where to put your foot? If one doesn't exist I'm sure it could be fabricated.
Nice video… just to pick up on your final ‘dislike’ point.. the lack of tech is actually a plus for me.. I have no need of a quick shifter, autoblipper or cruise control.. it makes the riding experience pure and simple.. I actively avoid buying bikes that have too much tech.. Enjoyed your video though and totally agree with your three likes.. that road looks fun!
Totally get you! I'd like a qs/blipper just because I have bad wrists so it's helpful, but I'm never one to be bothered about cruise either, I just know it's a positive for lots of people. One thing I enjoyed ws there was a big 'I' for information button on the switch gear and it shows you a few things, not many though... that was refreshing on a loaner 😊
The fourth con is that it's not going to live in your garage anymore. Glad you had a good ride out and a concise collection of final thoughts. Till your next video, have a good weekend (Hanna get her license yet)?
I prefer the looks and Stance of the Speed Twin and think the Thruxton back end needs a tail tidy like most bikes. I have a trident for commuting but would love a modern classic like this too
Absolutely love the Dales too, the scenery in this video is stunning. Do you think they have underated the power🤔? Must admit it's a very pretty bike 🥰💯....sounds fantastic ...but why clip ons?
"If I really like the look of a bike it really makes me want to go out on it more" - lots of truth to that. Bikes need to look, sound, and feel great to ride IMO. Not necessarily in that order.
The accent adds +25 sophistication..and I like that ass on the Thruxton as well. Bike seems wholesome. I did hear a few times that the handling feels a tad heavy and something about that I like. I’m considering a 2017. Thanks for the review.
The bike is so beautiful. I love the green one, v much. The bike has totally sensible power and looks premium everywhere. I would probably go for the comfort of the Street 765R, personally. Well, I wouldn't because I've ordered the new Hornet. If you were to give marks out of 10 what would you give the Thruxton and the RS? On a bike like that, the absence of a shifter is just weird. Forget about tradition blah, blah, the bike just needs it. Ta for the vid
The kickstand part really had me laughing, just try and put that thing down with race style Sidi boots on :) If they had a night mode on there little rectangular LCDs the dash would be perfect. Funny thing is through the kickstand drama doesn't bother me, it's personality.
I owned a Thruxton RS for about a year. Had a it with the bikini cafe racer fairing. I flippen loved it! It's easily my favourite bike. I did however get seduced by the Speed RR and traded it. What a mistake! I hate everything about the Speed RR. In short. Get a Thruxton RS :-)
Thanks for you great review. You seemed to really enjoy riding this bike as compared to others I watched you ride. Would you buy one? Were the ergos hard on you after half hour to an hour? did you like riding this more than the speed twin? All I see on line is everyone saying the ride is like no other. For reference, I'm 61, reasonably good shape, 5'9" and most of my rides are an hour or 2. I'm ready to pull the trigger on one but dont want buyers remorse. Test rides not an option for more then a mile or 2. I would appreciate any help you could provide.
I've got a 2024 Street Triple RS AND A BMW R1250GS, love both bikes bikes but I have an itch to scratch. One of these or the Street Triple RS Kate for a summers day ride out for a good few hours in the countryside?
I demo'ed a Thrux RS and the Striple RS at one of the Triumph demo days. I currently also have a Thrux 900. So I'd say the Thrux RS is like my Thrux 900, but just more of everything. I'll probably upgrade at some point but my 900 is so modded I think I'd really miss it. The Striple RS is freaking fun, I really enjoyed the quickshifter and just how light and flickable it felt. Comparing those two is tough, as they are so different. They both are smooth as a 20 year old Scotch but I think the Thrux is more for looks (and very competent as Kate points out), and the Striple is more for track work and losing your license.
Confusing what torque means to what bhp is. This bike to live with, to own is an absolute pleasure, it becomes you in time. I waited 60 years of riding to find a bike so perfect as a bike can be. All bikes are a compromise in some way however Triumph has gone well over that line to where you cannot see it.
did enjoy the views of the ride out So do you actually understand all the tech stuff like the crank angle and Nm i dont have a clue myself and just judge a bike by looks and feel although ive yet to find the perfect ride that i can afford .
It's something I could probably ride all day but if it was sustained riding over multiple, full days - I think a Speed Twin would be wiser based on a comfort level!
you don’t need cruise control, heated grips, or a quick shifter. who cares. bikes are fine without. my scrambler 1290xc does have cruise control but i don’t use it, even though my fingers fall asleep. btw, do the fingers on your right hand fall asleep?
Medical Funfact: When constipated, saying the word 'Thruxton' while you are straining will soon shift that troublemaker...😮 Honest! It works like magic!😊 Thank me later! 👍 😉
The Thruxton feels like 75 hp and low to medium power. The torque is low and high up the low rev limit. There is no sense of latent power , it feels like a commuter 500 until you thrash it. Its not comfortable either. Ride a comfy bike with real low grunt and I become really disappointed with my Thruxton. It is what it is , an attractive retro bike with good handling and useable performance. Its light so easy to move around when parking or leaving in a shed.
@@UsernameKate Have you considered doing bike gear reviews, especially gear made for ladies? I don't see many vids aimed at female riders. Just a thought!

Street triple RS for me 🫣🫣🫣
What about the comfort of the position riding? It is actually good for long trips?
Beautiful roads. Where is it ?
If you had to choose between the thruxton and the new street triple, which one would you get?
She is a heavy one but i do love the way they ride
It’s a stunning bike, what’s the riding position like? Looks like you lean forward a lot
Ok 👍👌 super Kate
Daytona 675r stand is a game of hide and seek too
Ive heard cafe racers are very uncomfortable especially for long rides. How would you rate thruxton rs on comfortablity?
This is definitely no Sports Tourer that's for sure! I reckon I could manage a full day in the saddle and be a bit sore the next day
@@UsernameKate wow, interesting. That's more than most people would bargain for.
I spent a day on it so thats how I know 🤣
They are some gorgeous roads where about are they 😊
What was the route - Hawes to Ribblehead?
Yes 😊
What is this road??? I have to add this to my bucket list
I would rent a Thruxton just to ride those roads over there.
🏍👍
Nice road. Nice lines.
What was the bike in front.
It was a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 :)
It looked good Thanks.
What has been your experience with the Forcite helmet?
Its a very positive experience. I'm thinking about doing a vlog talking about the things I like and dont like.
did enjoy the views of the ride out
So do you actually understand all the tech stuff like the crank angle and Nm
i dont have a clue myself and just judge a bike by looks and feel although ive yet to find the perfect ride that i can afford .
I love your accent
And bought a Thruxton 1200 R in the meantime 😊
Is this something you’ll ride all day?
It's something I could probably ride all day but if it was sustained riding over multiple, full days - I think a Speed Twin would be wiser based on a comfort level!
you don’t need cruise control, heated grips, or a quick shifter.
who cares. bikes are fine without.
my scrambler 1290xc does have cruise control but i don’t use it, even though my fingers fall asleep.
btw, do the fingers on your right hand fall asleep?
My fingers don't fall asleep, my middle finger of my right hand is in a cast under my glove after breaking it.
✌️😃👍
Beautiful bike 🏍 it's just missing 30-40 hp
to do what?
@pebbles beach you serious or what?
Ride it, what else do you do with a bike??
@@thorout8377 I meant, what's the use of 30-40 more horsepower than it already has, on the road?
My only gripe was it doesn’t have self canceling turn signals, the rest I can live with. Am I the only one that thinks this ?
Medical Funfact: When constipated, saying the word 'Thruxton' while you are straining will soon shift that troublemaker...😮
Honest!
It works like magic!😊
Thank me later! 👍 😉
Take your word for it barrowcliffe 🤣🤣
You are funny
That's a bike that doesn't need a tail tidy...
Oh, go look at the tailtidy for them. They are sexy looking.
Personally, I think the 1960s look is played out. Roll on 80s/90s
What did you spend the money on Kate? The money your Mum gave you for singing lessons:)
Haha my singing isn't that bad, I just match Mike's terrible vocals to make him feel better 😉
@@UsernameKate Have you considered doing bike gear reviews, especially gear made for ladies? I don't see many vids aimed at female riders. Just a thought!
Kate did you nuke my comment?
I don't nuke any comments dude!
Beautiful motorcycle. Way overpriced.
