I had a test ride today, I thought it was a stunning bike. Very fast, handling was great - loved chucking it into corners. The brakes were amazing, even the back brake had noticeable power. Quick shifter work perfectly & was really good even at 30-40 passing through villages. No wind on the helmet even though my head was above the screen. I didn't notice much difference between Road & Sport. At 5'11" I thought there was plenty of room to move about. I have a 2019 1050 RS & after riding a 1200RS last year I preferred mine but the 1200RR feels much different in a good way. I really loved it & would have one even at 55 years old. Great channel Chops, looking forward to the long term review.

I like the cafe racer as a bike concept, regardless of brand. I find the style ideal for the country lanes in the UK; not as uncomfortable as a sportsbike but more business like and 'serious' than a sit up n beg ADV or naked, where you invite the wind blast right in your chest and face instead of down your head and shoulders. The slightly body forward position, more weight over the front wheel, with quasi clip ons makes sweeping and swooping through the twistys more engaging and fun, I think. I'm not one for touring, building a nice layer of flies on my visor on a great big tractor of an ADV or barge like tourer, squirming around after hours in the saddle. I can do all that in my car!

the suspension set globally kinda makes sense if its same rider.....and you can always alter it individually by setting up global setting stiffer or softer....it is an extra step and bit more work
makes sense that whatever the rider is setting the bike up too in one mode it would transfer through the other modes....once its your bike youll figure out where you like it best but definetly more time and setup

    • @tonebonetones
      @tonebonetones 2 года назад +1

Yes, agreed. I've noticed pretty much every other RUclips reviews seem to have tiny fellas or ladies on them, and you get no sense of how the bike will suit you. I'm 6', but getting on a bit in years, shall we say, and most young lads I see out and about, day to day, in towns and shops are a good 3 to 6 inches taller than me, so these tiny riders are not the norm, these days.

    • @And_rew92

I am as well a 50 yo. Ex WERA, and AMA racer that last time on a bike was a race in 96. I am seriously looking at the tiger 900, rally pro. Though I have been fighting the kid in me of wanting this speed triple, or a more moderate Thruxton rs and go retro and act my age with atleast some feel of a sportbike. I am just affraid with either of the latter two the first clover leaf I hit my old demons will come out and end up hurting myself, but atleast I'll have a huge smile on my face.

There's a couple RR riders on the forum now, but it's pretty quiet, I think it's going to be a select owner's club. What nobody ever mentions is "rain mode" ... it turns the bike into a stress free 100hp ride, which is nice sometimes when you want to take a break from having to baby the throttle. It turns into a slightly less peak power Street Triple but with more torque, which actually isn't a bad configuration ...

Its got that sort of suzuki TL1000 sort of widowmaker dangerous, kick in the but acceleration but unlike the TL or Kawasaki H2 750 triple frames and suspension this is far far superior in every way and well done Triumph. It reminds me a lot of the styling of that gorgeous MV Agusta but at a far better price. The sexiest cafe racer probably new apart from maybe the V4 Nortons but at half the cost new. The V4 is top of the range MV Agusta money, a bike for Ferrari drivers for their sunday plaything to pose on summer sundays on a blazing hot day. I cant see a rich Saudi or emirate guy riding this sort of bike but its price is loose change to them.

That suspension must be more configerable than that? Even my bog standard Tiger 1200 with WP suspension has 9 levels of damping directly available in every rider mode. Further, you can disassociate damping from rider modes and have the damping level wherever you like and change it directly in the information tray without going through any menus. Lucky man to get on a demo, it is an absolutely drool bike. I sat on one at the Birmingham show, it was a less extreme riding position than my Daytona 1200, very nice.

Cracking looking machine, but noted how even a demo bike has tail tidy and screen. I guess the dealer is swapping out what most owners will end up doing anyway, not a bad idea that 😎

The review I've been waiting for, thanks Chopsy!
How was the suspension once you'd softened it off and the main question for me: this or the S1000RR for someone looking for 'sporty'/spirited riding on the road?

The bmw is very comfortable and fun too , lacks a bit of soul but that’s because it is engineered so well it doesn’t miss a beat so it comes across as a little bit lacklustre I wouldn’t say boring but kind of muted but it’s an awesome bike it basically does everything right !

@@pcarts232 Hi, Thanks for the reply. I've tested both bikes twice now and definitely leaning towards the BMW.
I don't know if it was just an issue with the specific Triumph demo bike I was riding but I found that it would really complain if the revs dropped below 2500 rpm, which shouldn't be an issue except that 2500 rpm equated to 30 mph in 4th gear which meant having to drop into 3rd (or even 2nd) which also wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for the snatchy reponse off a closed throttle. My current bike (2010 GSX-R1000) doesn't have these issues and neither does the BMW, both of which will pull smoothly from 20 mph in 6th (albeit slowly in the Suzuki's case!). Obviously there's always going to be a bit of 'snatch' as you pick up a closed throttle but the BMW and Suzuki just seem to handle it much better. The Triumph was so bad that it actually affected the handling in slow corners and on roundabouts. It was fine once up to speed (and when you could set your throttle before tipping in) but if you needed to close and/or re-open mid corner then it would actually upset the bike.
It's such a shame as I love the look of the Triumph; the build quality seems excellent; the suspension and riding modes are actually a bit more adjustable than the BMW (where you have to go into Race Pro mode before you can tweak things) and it makes a nice noise even with the standard can. I've gone back over various launch tests to see if others have had the same issue and found a couple of mentions of 'choppiness' at low rpm/early throttle application. There have also been similar issues reported with other Triumph bikes using ride-by-wire throttles, to the extent that there are spacer kits available for the previous Speed Triple; the Speed Twin and some other models. It may be that a spacer kit gets released for the 1200RR but that would be extra expense and hassle, which isn't ideal given the BMW is already anywhere up to £1100 cheaper for equivalent spec.
On top of that, while both the BMW and Triumph are a bit vibey (although neither as bad as the Suzuki), the frequency of the BMW's vibes cause me less of an issue whereas the Triumph started to give me a little numbness (I have a bit of an issue with getting numb fingers, which is one of the biggest problems I have with my current bike).
I was really impressed with the flexibility of the BMW's engine. Although the dyno graphs favour the Triumph, I found that in real world riding the BMW offered more flexibility with a wider choice gear for overtakes and driving out of corners, I guess down to gearing as well as the Shift Cam tech. As for the lack of character, I found the sound from the BMW surprisingly nice on the standard can and as Mr Chops has already shown, there are some very affordable slip-on cans available as well. I think the airbox was playing it's part too, with some nice induction noise.
Personally, I think I've realised that I don't mind sacrificing character for efficiency and smoothness. I found the BMW much less effort to ride 'briskly', which meant I had more capacity to enjoy the ride whereas the Triumph's fueling/gearing issue had me thinking more about what the bike might be about to do and how to ride around or avoid the issue. I've had my Suzuki from new and back then I loved the Fireblade for it's smoothness but just couldn't get on with the more 'jockey' like riding position, so plumped for the more comfortable Suzuki. Twelve years on it seems I'm still drawn towards the smoothness of the BMW over the slightly more gruff character of the Triumph, although it might prove closer with heavier bar end weights and a throttle spacer kit :o)

@@MrPhilipcarter yes agree 100% seriously you can literally ride the S1000 like a scooter it’s so well behaved and then you can also ride it like the 1L bike that it is with 160 hp , it’s very comfortable, seat , bars , riding position , knees not cramped etc , it’s an amazing bike, like I said the BMW S1000 r does everything perfectly, it doesn’t miss a beat , it’s effortless to ride, the Only reason I’ve bought the triumph speed triple RS is just because of the way it makes me feel when I ride it , I love the engine the way handles it’s amazing but it’s not actually a better bike than the BMW in my honest opinion , I just like the way it rides 🤘🏾the Bmw is a bit soulless but that’s doesn’t make it a bad bike , it’s just personal choice 👌🏽
