Why?Adolescence doesn't mean children, but young adults (something between 16-25). Basically the prime time of everybodie's beauty, so why is it creepy?
@@CinemaBizarreShinya adolescent means the development of a CHILD- it’s the fact that men ARE attracted to females around the age of 15
the golden age of hollywood is inaccurate. most models were a size 0-4 and Marilyn herself was actually quite tiny
Exactly, I mean the description was pretty accurate but the model in the video wasn't
Yes exactly, people forget about vanity sizing. She was a size 12-16 in the 1950s, which translates to a size 0-4 today.
I'm a guy and its not my place but even i know this. They literally just butchered it but good vid overall

Now let's do men's body type throughout history.
Buff
Women didn't really have a say in what their potential husbands looked like for many many many years, so there was no real "male beauty standard". A woman simply married whoever could take care of her, even if he was old and/or unattractive to her. This was a worldwide phenomenon, from the east to the west, women had no say- they just got married off to whomever her family chose.
It was like this until women were finally free to choose to marry- which is post 1800s.
"Male fashion through history" could be interesting, but there was no real beauty standard.
I'd say the western beauty standard in modern times for men nowadays is either "buff, tall, tan, and wealthy" or "buff, tall, pale and wealthy"- and for some, they like the scruffy bear dad bod type. Lol.
, ideal body type doesn’t mean sexual or what the other sex liked throughout history necessarily, but how the men’s body type evolved for men and how the ideals changed like hairstyle or looks body type, it doesn’t always mean what the opposing sex thinks in the matter because they aren’t the only reason why the social constructs change

? There were eras where people like fat or skinny, small breasted or big breasted. I wonder what type of person you are but you must be somewhat special then
@@Melanin_Kitty * sniff * thank you
Loved the video, but I don't understand why people are offended they used a black woman to portray ancient Egyptian body types. This video was about body image, not the color of ones skin. Sheesh. All body types are beautiful. You can't help what you were born with. You can do everything possible to change it, but you still won't be satisfied until you learn to love yourself.
That's exactly what I was thinking!
Funny thing is Egyptians are dark skinned lol(not ones from Greece btw)
probably because they wanted it to be all white women instead of including black because you know, were not considered to be attractive by alot of their standards
Actually I'm Egyptian and I liked it , more of us have more darker skin , actually in Egypt there is a quote that says that dark skin is a major sign of beauty :)
they should have just said: African not Egypt, trying to steal our history pfffffft
The woman for the italian renaissance era literally looks like the women in all the famous renaissance paintings...she is beautiful...actual art
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I study a lot of art from that era. Any painter at the time would have died to have her as a model- simply stunning!
@@adenm8963 Yes! Also, women with extra body fat, especially around their hips and thighs, are more likely to be fertile. Ever wonder why women have a naturally higher body fat than men? Or why female athletes, who have a low body fat percentage, tend to loose their periods? Well, fat is essential for the production and regulation of estrogen. In a time period when a lot of people lived in famine, men evolved to view larger women as more beautiful, as these women were more likely to be hormonally healthy and thus able to bear children. Moreover, without excess calories, women tend to loose a lot of weight when breastfeeding, so they needed extra fat to burn in order to feed their infants.
TLR: excess body fat, in times of history plagued by famine, was seen as an evolutionary advantage.
@@adenm8963 I’d also say that most women who were thought of as attractive were probably just what we’d call curvy- not overweight or obese. Think of Marilyn Monroe. She wasn’t overweight at all, but she still had curves that made her look healthy and sexy. A lot of what people think is sexually attractive has to do with what is healthy. Things like healthy hair, clear skin, and a healthy (not over or underweight) body. While beauty standards change, human beings will always be drawn to people who look healthy. But beauty is only skin deep- so honestly- and I’m not just saying this- I’m more attracted to people’s personalities. I’d be happy to date a guy who is short and overweight if he’s nice and treats me right. However, when it comes to how I make myself (as a woman) feel attractive, I just try to focus on what makes me look healthy. Skincare, healthy diet, light exercise, and so on. A lot of people get low self esteem from trying to look that the latest Instagram model. But it’s much easier to just focus on taking care of the body and face that I do have and making the most of them. People who are internally healthy have a glow to them that can’t be attained through heavy makeup and plastic surgery. I love this quote from the golden age of Hollywood: “to be beautiful and natural is the birthright of every woman.” In other words, all women have a natural beauty to them. All we need to do is care for it by keeping healthy and happy.
She is truly stunning, that’s my type of woman
That's false, the model tries to look like Botticelli's Venus, but she's clearly fatter. This is a misrepresentation of reality in order to comfort curvy women. It's not accurate. The same goes for 1930-1950.
I don't like how women feel so pressurized into getting the perfect body that they resort to plastic surgery. Seriously. How do you expect us to have Nicki minaj boobs and Kim kardashian hips and butt, but expect us to have a thigh gap as well? I think it's completely fine if a particular body type is desired or on trend, but not so much so where women get stared at in public if they're legs aren't stick thin or if they don't have a cleavage. And definitely not so much so that some get silicone injected into their butts and breasts. Everyone is beautiful. Some people have high metabolism, small bones etc, some people don't. Why can't we just accept that?
You think men nowadays have it any differnt?
Both men and women have an intelligent choice of, with what to atract the opposit sex.
Be it fit body, sex skills, wealth, intelligence, or high social skills, at least some are must have to atract mates. That's just basic logic.
Now, the fact that usually women preffer to aquire first, second, or the last, forcing men to compinsate with harder choices is actually more unfair towards us, if we trully talking true gender equality, and not femmenazism.
There is no country where men live longer than women, while biological potential of both sexes are equal, just sayng.
hukubis I am incredibly confused by what you are trying to say. Are you claiming that men die earlier than women because men feel the need to overcompensate in order to attract women? I'm not sure that is scientifically sound. Women do live longer than men on average, but the number 1 cause of death for men is cardiovascular diseases and there is evidence that part of the reason why is because men go to the doctor less often than women. I would say that it is a society that encourages men to be "tough" and "muscle through the pain" attributes to early male death than women who like to date good-looking or wealthy men. Also, I find it odd that you felt the need to contribute this to tessa low's comment. Her comment was a very general "embrace your body" type of comment. She literally says "everyone is beautiful", which would include men. Your comment does not pertain to the conversation at hand and I feel that you only read up to "I don't like how women feel so pressurized", assumed this person was a "femmenazism", and typed up a rebuttal for an argument that does not exist.
Kim Kardashian is ugly...and her butt is huge. I dont find this attractive at all. There is something going on with her lips too. I think there are too much of them all on TV.
They got plastic surgery also
SirThopas3 Hi, I would not say that the health aspect has to do with the pressure on masculinity or toughness as much as the fact that men are often irresponsible with their health when they are young (and then it haunts them when they hit the 40s or so). Us women.... we have to know a lot about health.... even though our pain tolerance is higher than that of men, we usually do not ignore it when we are in a strange kind of pain (we learn to differentiate between dangerous pain or just normal level pain that we experience often).
You would not believe how many arguments I have with my boyfriend over the fact that he should wear a scarf when it is freezing outside.... or that he should buy winter shoes when we live in a country where it snows a lot (and yes, he can afford it, so that is not the issue here).... having an immunity disorder myself, I understand perfectly how fragile your health is.... and how much precaution it takes to stay healthy.... him being more or less healthy makes it very difficult to understand how these decisions can come to haunt him later on when he won't be able to rely on the fact that young organisms heal fast. It also has to do with obesity - as men often eat very unhealthy diets when single.... I hope all men will grow to understand more about their own health.
lol my teacher played this in my biology class, it was pretty awkward.

True. But they described the 1950s beauty standard as hourglass, not fat/plus size ✌🏽
@@Really_Roby But the model they chose doesn't reflect the description.
Gave you a like. Marilyn was a modern size 2-4. Not the near-obese model they chose in the video wtf.
Im not the only one who found this video an art piece and not a sexist stereotypical thing right?
I've watched it 7 times already. The diversity is truly captivating.
Totally with you OP. I think this is one of their most creative videos. I say this mainly because of how well the music goes with the presentation; while the models are already beautiful, how they sync with the music makes them appear even more so. Well done Buzzfeed! And thanks for introducing me to this bubbly little track. :D
Yeah, I don't see anything offensive. It is just surprising that beauty has changed so much over the hundreds of years of civilizations. It proves that these modern day images of beauty and that you have to be thin to be "pretty" isn't always how it was, or how it will be. It proves that all of this propaganda that being skinny=beauty, and curvy=fat, is just stupid, and won't last forever, and soon another body trend will come along.
Overall, I just think that this video opens your eyes to how the "ideal" body type has changed, and that they are all beautiful.

"Heroin Chic" label is so disturbing
I agree, its a really mean lable
By heroin I thought it meant heroine
+MedusaMel I would assume they used that because the desirable traits are similar to those seen in people who regularly use heroin (e.g. very thin, possibly at an unhealthy level, with pale skin, etc.)
+MedusaMel I thought they meant heroine as in a hero
+MedusaMel I don't know about the western counrties, but in the eastern Europe, especially post-soviet countries, drugs like heroin were a sign of wealth, it was stylish to be an addict in 90-s. So this label is really disturbing, but it has its own real basis.

Callan Madden Calm down. When did I say skinny? Some people have bigger thighs and still have thigh gaps, you put those words there all on your own.
***** Yeah, I guess that's true. But I was just stating my opinion, not debating if every women has thigh gaps.
Todays ideal body is almost impossible to achieve.. Its probably the most difficult one to get, without plastic surgery, out of all the other bodies. I mean big boobs AND flat chest??? Big butt AND THE GODDAMN THIGH GAP I GIVE UP
I think you mean big boobs AND flat *stomach*? But yeah I know what you mean! It is so sad because I used to look pretty close to this but I didn't have THAT big of boobs, and I also only had half-thigh gap. So I DID just GIVE UP and now I'm worse because I couldn't just love myself for who I was and be proud that I was HEALTHY, not a supermodel that spends thousands on plastic surgery. lol Since realizing this I'm trying to just focus on my health, not my looks, because luckily I don't want the whole world to think I'm pretty, because I know my fiance loves me and thinks I'm beautiful no matter what. :)
hahaha i love your post ;)
Well, obviously that's because today's ideal body IS plastic surgery. Someday, people are going to look back at this era and go "wtf".
Why do you think so many people get plastic surgery, to achieve the impossible (for many people). I think more people should be happy with what they were given. In the long run, they will be happier too.
Cynthia Buckles women with bodies like that do exist...well I guess it depends on what you consider slim etc. But I've seen several.

I'm 110 pounds and I still don't have a thigh gap ... what is deem ideal is ridiculous ...sigh
Not at all, but yes. I mean if you are fat you won't have a thigh gap even your legs are sheped for it but most of the girls can be skinny, normal , athletic or so and still have no thigh gap.

Right like if i was to model I'd be awkward af
I think it's pretty obvious you got the Golden Age of Hollywood wrong. Actresses like Ava Gardner, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth were no where near that big ha
There is more wrong: the bitch that was supposed to represent the Greek ideal is way too fat, and the ancient Egyptians were not negroids, but were brown-skinned.
AmauryPenseur negroids? Really? Anyway yeah the Greek chick was a little chunky but not far off. They did like wider hips and thicker thighs.
TheRonster9319 What's wrong with the word negroid? It's the human phenotype that is native to Sub-Saharan Africa.
Also, the 'Victorian woman' was also extremely off. Just type 'Victorian paintings' on Google images and you will see that the ideal woman was definitely not an unhealthy fat monster.
I'm sick of Buzzfeed and the inaccurate nonsense they spread.
AmauryPenseur i think the word 'negroid' is viewed as offensive (if you haven't noticed already lol). but yeah, i think BuzzFeed's point with that model was just to show someone who /does/ have brown skin rather than someone darker or paler.
***** You're very right negroid is very offensive and also you should see what kind of person AmauryPenseur is due to the fact that they just called the woman who was used for Victorian times an unhealthy fat monster... Just because its not your standard beautiful doesn't make the person a monster or unhealthy. I know many women who are shaped like that who can still out run and out exercise me, a 120 pound female, soooo idk where they're coming from.
The inaccuracy and obvious bias towards *ahem* SOME body types is so obvious that it hurts
I am a skinny person and I don't fit into the "modern" day body type at all. Whenever people say that "thigh gaps are ugly" or "you're too skinny" or they something bad about something that I naturally have, it makes me feel so much worse than I already do about my body. Seeing all these people with these beautiful curves makes me feel very insecure.
Maybe eat something?

All of these ideal body types came into play because of what men preferred. Smh.. Society/media always seem to win. 👎 It doesn't matter if your fat or skinny, you're still going to be picked on based off of your weight. Skinny people endure the same shameful mentality as bigger people. Thick women is coming into play so you either gain curves and weight or get sidelined by delusional men.
Sergio Aguero biology always wins in the end pal. i know what i'm attracted too and so do many other men. the majority prefers thinner women over fat women any day.
Sergio Aguero lol you seem mad
Amen, sister!
That's not even a little bit true. Especially in modern society, ideal body types are perpetuated by women. Videos like these just keep that myth going. I've never once heard a man claim that a thigh gap made any difference in the appearance of a women, yet in this video, it is claimed that that is one of the main factors of "beauty".
Are we never going to talk about the ideal body types for men? It's actually much more difficult for a man to fit into his ideal body type than it is for a woman to fit into her's.
Unnaturally large muscles, perfect facial aesthetics, nearly unhealthy bodyfat percentages, tall, above average penis size, etc etc.
And we don't have plastic surgery to help us.

Golden age of Hollywood so historically inaccurate it pains my soul
That model, would very unfortunately, be considered 'too big', in that time period..Just bc marilyn monroe was said to be a size 12, this is true..however.. Size 12 bk in the 50's is the equalivent of today's size 8, which is slightly below the average American woman (just like $10 bk then was equal to today's 48$)
lol1257
Look at the video title “Women’s *IDEAL* body type throughout history” it’s *IDEAL* meaning that’s what most people considered beautiful. Besides, even the average 1950s woman was much smaller.
Also, if you consider it accurate why did you agree?
That's what I said! Lmao
Mary-Ann Annan I think it was decently accurate. I have a few pinup books with models from the 50s and there were definitely some models in there that looked somewhat like her. It seemed as if if you had noticeable curves and weren't too massive people thought it was attractive.
@@spiritglass5716 I'm not denying that cures weren't seen as attractive but I feel they model they used was slightly exaggerated compared to the average ideal body of the 50s.

Can you do a mens version? It would awesome as a guy girl thing! :)
I don't think the the ideal male body type has really changed throughout the ages. Same with the ideal female body type to be honest. Just the way their bodies were portrayed in art has changed.
Andrew H it has actually, if you imagine the skinny non muscular men didn't have to work and did not have to lift things so that was desirable whereas now its muscular since they can get out of the office and work out in free time. its all about expenses really.
I guess the male beauty standard didn't changed much, perhaps skin tones and hair style changed.
In past the male was considered sexy when he was thin and muscular with full long hair, now a man is sexy if he is thin and muscular with Full hair.
Hair style would definitely be the focus for a men's video.
I think the ideal male body type have change slightly but the face shape, haircut and style are the ones that have changed the most. The video would be shorter but It'll be nice if they made it :)!

So basically up until the late 60s the ideal body type swung to a slimmer build? So after hundreds of years, the body type favoured fuller figures and bigger builds it switched probably less than 50 years to a slimmer build? Wow! And the backlash smaller people get ...? I wish there was no ideal body or a standard and that people would just promote healthy living and eating regardless of body type. I also hate the double standards too in terms of size. I'm all for health. Being big doesn't necessarily mean the person is overweight and also being small doesn't mean the person is unhealthy. Please love your body type but if you're overweight/underweight, honestly please seek help and do something it isn't healthy and can cause health complications. Don't live in denial, do something for yourself, you deserve it!
A man suffering from erection. The movie proofs his mentality.
Reni Oshodi pure logic
First the only people getting fat was people with money.
Then later everyone could get fat, so it flipt and now its something you have to work on.
Past:fat=successful
today:well defined through bodywork=successful
***** I see, makes sense ...
***** THANK YOU! I'm always wondering, why people can't come up with this explanation by themselves. It's not that hard to imagine that being fat in times of poverty means that you are wealthy.
In the Roman Empire, they even made fat-looking statues of some emperors - even if they were probably not fat, e.g. Emperor Titus - as a sign of the wealth of the whole country.
But nowadays, it's no longer difficult to be a fat, unhealthy pig with diabetes and damaged joints.
Reni Oshodi What exactly is the double standard in terms of size? Fat men are considered ugly, fat women are considered ugly.
I didn't know having multiple arms is a prerequisite for beauty in Ancient Egypt.
AUSTIN _P Learn how to spell
+AUSTIN _P they're actually pretty close to the top
Oh my god XD
In case you didn't realise, everyone has multiple arms.
That isn't even ancient Egypt, in that culture didn't exist the the black community. So inaccurate.
I still think we’re all pretty cute
Italian Renaissance woman looks like she just stepped out of an ancient renaissance painting, her face just looked timeless
Right?! Especially with that hair do, she just looked so damn accurate :)
So so beautiful
dcype 159 I know, I thought she was absolutley beautiful.
Plus, beautiful body. I'm all in for full figured ladies.
I was about to say that!
I don't know why people don't understand, so here's a reminder:
*CURVY =/= FAT*
That being said, the 30-50's model was completely inaccurate, and was just a shoehorn in of _"All women are beautiful!"_ crap.
Edit: Same goes for the Greek one.
ikr i'm sick of all this "being fat is completely healthy and curvy and ideal" bullshit
flayuhat I think you're exaggerating just a wee bit on the "completely" part just to get your whine on, but it is entirely possible to achieve health at any size. If you're eating a clean, balanced diet, moving regularly, and your blood work checks out, is that not healthy? I've worked with plenty of thin people who are severely malnourished, eat shitty food because of their "fast metabolism", and their blood work indicates an early grave. But because they're skinny, you'd assume they're healthy. Now, take someone who's a size 10 US (14 Australia, 12 UK, 40 Europe) - their weight distribution may be different, but they could be much more active and pay more attention to what they eat than this smaller person. They've got a much better chance of living a full and complication-free life. Ergo, appearances can be deceiving. There is a difference between someone who's curvy and someone who's fat, but fat does not necessarily mean lazy, loser, or anything else that tends to be attached to it. Fat's just a word, like curvy or skinny. If health is what it boils down to, then there is no one single model for health. As i've explained, it comes in many forms.
liepinshtein After reading this one short comment of mine, I think you're assuming just a wee bit much about me and my thoughts/opinions/beliefs just to get your preachy-preach on ^__^
I am already well aware of everything you wrote about in your comment. I know that slightly overweight people can be healthy. I don't assume that skinny people are healthy. I don't think a size 10 US is big.
Sure I exaggerated a little to describe this whole "fat-positive" and "I'm not fat I'm just CURVY" bs that is so popular right now. So what.
Oh and as for the whole "it is entirely possible to achieve health *at any size*" claim, I don't think that's true for the majority of people. Healthy people with clean, balanced diets and regular exercise aren't particularly fat, and they shouldn't be underweight (in regards to their body type) either. (this is just in general; there may be special cases/circumstances which go against the norm).
flayuhat I don't think many people take into account that autoimmune diseases, CNS disorders, medications etc. can (annoyingly) impair someone's best efforts at being within their recommend weight range. A person with fibromyalgia, for example, is lacking the digestive enzymes required to absorb the nutrients from their food and process fats and proteins, thus why it's even harder for people with this condition to get their weight down. Someone with IBS can't eat the same foods. All i'm saying is that there are more reasons than you might think.
Health at any size, if we want to speak broadly, is definitely achievable, and is about attitude and lifestyle more than measurements and stats. The number on a scale and the BMI are not entirely accurate measures of health, so much as defining health for the individual regardless of what the cultural image might be. Basically, if you're eating a toxin-free diet, getting regular exercise, and your blood work is A+, and you're still plus-size, then that's the best picture of health for you. It's how you feel first, and how you look second.
Calling the Greek one fat is really pushing it don't you think? Like they said plump.
It'd be nice to watch one video with an overweight person without the whole RUclips community overlooking the point to a video and focuses on the un-related fat person.
You have to remember some people genuinely can't help being overweight.. Imagine yourself being overweight, because you just are, can't help it and you read offensive comments like some of these.
It's the same with being underweight which doesn't receive nearly as much attention, some people like me genuinely can't put on weight, no matter what we eat. I'm 23 and weigh 10 stone and have done since i was like 16, i eat plenty but just have the best metabolism a human can have. Of course the ignorant sons of bitches our fellow humans are i get told lots that's i need to put weight on, "get some meat on those bones" and asked if i'm anorexic.
I often think what it is people think gives them the right to ask me shit like that, because obviously i'm self-conscience about it. And it's simple really, its just the affects from all the media attention overweight people have had over the decades compared with being skinny. You're much less likely to make fun of a fat person for being fat to their face then you are a skinny person for being skinny, because in societies mind being skinny and not being able to put on weight is seen as some sort of luxury? So how could you offend me? Oh you weak minded ignorant fools.
Basically people think everyone is supposed to be naturally thin and forget that we come in different shapes and sizes. I will always understand people that want to achieve a certain shape, but we forget that there are things you CAN'T change.
I think the worst thing is that we're so obsessed with shape and look that we don't allow ourselves to be attracted to other shapes. None of the woman in this video are less than gorgeous in my opinion
Tatiana Thielens And what it's caused is an entire other group of people to be offended by what people think are compliments.. Overweight people are just as ignorant tbf, what with this new skinny bashing fad because fat people are sick of being ridiculed.
I agree with you that they are all equally beautiful :)
TheKeikoIsALie - Bethany Symons
Indeed, though i'm surprised people haven't learnt yet that commenting on someones weight is offensive, whatever size or shape you are. Because it's of those things all Humans feel self-consciense about. Even those toned up gym people, you could say they're the most self-conscience of all because a lot of people like that are after an image society and media deem desirable. Lets be honest, going to the gym is rarely for your health.
TheKeikoIsALie - Bethany Symons eeeh, that's for some. Some. A lot of overwieght people say they have slow metabolisms and thus cannot lose weight, when in reality, their metabolism may be much faster than that of someone half their size. It's much more rare that medication or a condition would disallow someone to lose weight, and even in many of those cases, it's treatable. Same way around for someone who's very skinny and can't seem to gain weight. They don't eat enough. Anectodal evidence here, but I've multiple friends who are as skinny poles and people claim they have fast metabolisms when in reality, neither of them eat breakfast, barely eat lunch, and have small dinners. It's hard to blame something the majority is suffering from on something that only affects a small minority, and especially when that change of weight has been most common within the past 20-50 years.
Yeah but the video is supposed to show the IDEAL look of the TIME PERIOD!
BODY. TYPES. SHOULDNT. BE. TRENDS. PERIODT.
Edit: to all the incels replying to me saying that they should stop hating on women’s bodies just because no woman wants to sleep with you
TYPING. LIKE. THAT. DOESN'T. MAKE. YOUR. POINT. MORE. TRUE. IT'S. JUST. ANNOYING.
It should be actually. The goal of a couple is to have a child with a gene pool as adapted as it possibly can depending on the enviromnent. In times of famine a fat, well fed woman would be better than a poorly nurished one and vice-versa.

why would you put white text over a light background?! Fire your graphic designers and editors!
Black might've been too harsh and wouldn't have suited the look they were going for.
Well u can still see the text can,t you,, so stfu,,STOP complaining!!
Yes omg my eyes!! Yes the light color fit the video better, but there should have been more of a contrast between the white text and pale gray background
Ari Melbourne I'm not telling them to use black, white is fine just change the background a little. pause at 0:14 that is a sin in the graphic design world.
If it was black, I'd look too bold and it'd grab your attention too much and the background is actually a very light grey, not white.

I like how they went from Victorian England to the roaring 20s
people were very conservative in the time between. they didn't show their bodies and physical attraction was mostly taboo.
They should've mentioned that fatter bodies were admired around the 1900s, because more body fat was a sign that your family was wealthy enough to afford large and caloric meals. And in the 1950s, curvy women were the ideal woman to marry because wider thighs and bigger breasts usually mean a wider pelvic bone and better lactation, so with the "american dream" of the time being of families with many children, those traits were very much desired in those times.
well the victorian era ended in 1901 with the death of queen victoria so its not that far away from 1920
Yeah there's still the Edwardian era
0:26 is kinda funny considering that males start of as females, so technically men are disfigured versions of women.
Literally all of these women are beautiful and some of these comments make me want to cry
don't worry, if it's a horrible comment they're probably trolling
Me too. It heartbreaking to know that people are too shallow to look away from body image and focus on every persons individual beauty. It makes me scared and sad for when I have children. I hope one day people will be accepted no matter what
***** And it's people like you that hold back mankind. Your head is so far up society's ass.

I don't think they got the right model for golden age of hollywood. That was not Monroe's bodytype at all.
There were so many more models at that time, who of which actually STARVED themselves to reach standards of that era.
well of course there was, but they showed Monroe. Look at Liz Taylor, didn't look like that either.
Yeah, that's true.
Monroe was actually a size 12 - i have the same measurements as Monroe and they were actually pretty accurate on the body.
Lindsey Taylor Williams No she wasn't. www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2012/04/marilyn-monroe-was-not-even-close-to-a-size-12-16/

The last one did not match today at all in my opinion the "ideal body shape" for women is MUCH curvier than that and bigger butt and boobs the small waist and thigh gap did match tho. It makes no sense tho because how do you expect people to be curvy and "thick" but also have a thighgap?
exactly!!
If you can see the white print against the white background, it says that women use plastic surgery to achieve their desired look. Obviously it's not realistic.

Finally, something that isn't offensive in any way. I really appreciate it because the truth is that ALL of them are beautiful in their own body. Overweight doesn't equal ugly. No, fat people should desire to be healthy and skinny. Being fat is very bad for your health.
+Walker1444 I agree that is good to be healthy. It's amazing and to be honest I adore being healthy and active. I mean who doesn't love junk food sometimes, but I personally love my health more. But why is always fat vs skinny? Why not normal weight and strong instead of skinny? I will never understand it.
No, you should desire to be healthy because some people have curvier, more chubby body types and that is completely fine because that is their body type. Strive to be healthy and stick to your genetics. Someone you may consider "fat" might be that way because genetics.
Lps StormBrewer Agree. Not everybody can be the same.

I wish they also showed ideal male body types ;w;
doubt they will, their videos cater to the majority of viewers, women.
It'd probably be around the same as women. In the beginning it was athletic men so they could hunt for their family. Then, heavier men to show off wealth. Now it's generally unreachable without having the right genetics or plastic surgery.
***** Well, although I'm male, I think guys are hot. I clicked on this video for a bit of eye candy, and I think many female viewers would agree with me on that reason. I didn't come here to be shown standards to live up to.
***** So if they cater to women, they WOULDN'T put a video with shirtless guys??

Last time I checked, Marilyn Monroe was the sex symbol of the 50's. She wasn't super skinny, but she wasn't chubby either. And women in the sixties were absolutely not that skinny. Just watch any James Bond movie from around that time.
Yes exactly. She was actually quite thin. She wasn't as full-bodied as people try to make it seem.
If you read carefully it says the Golden Age 1930s-1950s.... NOT about the 1950s
+BaFayNot23 well, honey, this is a 1940's model, and she's pretty skinny pleasurephotoroom.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/the-model-22dickie22-by-swimming-pool-1940s-50s-corbis.jpg

Of course, this is still pretty normal, not even over weight, so I agree that the representation seems false. But this isn't skinny or thin either.

My god, we really put women through the mill, and reward compliance, shame non-compliance. It’s interesting to see the more recent rise of body dysmorphia experienced by men regarding idealization of huge muscles and unnaturally shredded physiques, but there is no actual expectation that men must achieve that
What people need to understand is ideals are not standards

Wow, this video really tries hard to offend skinny girls, doesn't it? Adrogynous? Imagine the uproar this video caused if they described the ''plumper'' women with terms like ''whale-like physique'' or something as insulting as that...
Her shape was basically rectangular/up and down...similar to a boy. Plus Androgynous is not an insult.
Androgynous = With male and female characteristics. Tell me, she didn't have boyish characteristics.
Androgynous is a similar description as the "hour-glass".
So you're telling me that if someone says they can't determine your gender by looking at your body because of your fat levels you don't get offended?
At that time, being androgynous was a very desirable aesthetic. Try not to look at history through the lens of the world you currently live in.
I am in no way concerned about the feelings of people living in the past, I am concerned about the feelings of skinny women and girls today, who are being repeatedly insulted by the media. The self-esteem of millions of young women are being hammered into mush by comments like ''bones are for dogs, real mean go for meat'', and no one seems to have a problem with it.
As a Greek girl who loves philosophy, let me enlighten you. In contrast to Plato, who believed that women should be educated and could reach any high within society, Aristotle, his student, had, as it seems, a different opinion. He infamously stated that women are unfinished men. But, that certainly does not mean that women were considered "disfigured" versions of men in ancient Greece.

Just look at the 1990s one do u really think that’s healthy
Obergruppenfürher John Smith
Truth right here!
You can tell what the ideal was just by looking at older paintings of those times. A lot of desirable women during earlier, famine ages WERE chubby simply because they could afford to eat; and even now a lot of places in the world values such women. It's a status symbol(even for men). In first world countries where we can afford to throw away food, being bigger doesn't emphasis any status or anything else.
Heck even fairly recently you have people like Twiggy who changed the way modeling looked, taking it from pinups like Marilyn to thinner women like Twiggy herself. So obviously there was a different standard for different places. People need to stop projecting their butthurt because some cultures find fat people attractive. It DOES NOT affect you at ALL.
Desirable =/= attraction. Attraction isn't taught. If weight is a sign of status, and that is desirable, you're arguably attracted to the status, not the person. Like a young girl dating an older wealthier man... She may find the money or power attractive, but not his nasty wrinkly scrotum. The same is said for these disgustingly sickly looking current models in size 0's that look like they could break into a million pieces from a small fall. No one would find that attractive unless taught to. Extremes either way are bad.. and it's even worse to teach both are okay.
TGxNihilum
Yes of course, you're right in that regard. I was saying that regardless of why it was desirable, that was the ideal for that time. If not starving during that time was a less attractive outcome than marrying someone that they didn't physically like, then that's why it was desirable. But then again, death and sickness usually are on the lower end of things, so maybe they had more important things to concentrate on than procreation lol.
Yeah pretty sure the plumper your potential wife is =More likely to not die during childbirth = WINNER!
Also, that's why men evolutionary tend to like bigger hips-> Child-bearing y'all!
Bogger breasts -> Child feeding. Although that's kind of changed, I think through out time, hasn't changed much! Can't imagine a man hating those things, even if it's not "en vogue"
***** Yeah I was going to post about that. It reflects only a few famous painters desires, not the desires of all men at the time.

I have never once heard a guy say that he liked thigh gaps.
Most men probably don't give a crap either way.

Looking at the comment section of BuzzFeed videos makes me feel really nauseous, because people are so full of hate, so sexist, so racist, so superficial.. yes, the video has its flaws when it comes to accuracy, and it's okay to mention that. But some people go over-board SO extremely, they just spread their shitty attitude everywhere, it makes me sick.
Someone finally understands what I go through looking at these disgusting comments. Thanks for understanding.
Depends on what you consider sexist and superficial...
I'm with you, don't know why I still look
Agreed. Most of the time I only go here is to search for interesting comments like yours. Liked!
Well you're one special snowflake aren't you? Did your parents tell you that?
