I love the fact that I see tons of different people saying "I love ___________________ woman's look!" It just proves that everyone likes different things, and each type can be considered beautiful.
I love learning about this kind of stuff! I never knew that the beauty marks were to emphasis paleness, and I find it fascinating that unibrows were seen as a thing of beauty when in today's society it's like "the worst thing ever," to the point that some people even overpluck their eyebrows.
I think this video is very informative, and all the models are very pretty. I also think that this is one of the friendliest RUclips comment sections I have ever seen. Everyone seems to have something nice to say either about the girls in the video or each other's personal style. It's really refreshing.
Super kitty !!! The woman has the ideal woman's shape, beautiful hair, and friendly smile, smart, sweet, and- IS THAT A UNIBROW? SHES UGLY SHES UGLY OMG CALL THE POLICE WOMEN CANT BE UGLY OMFG.
Ruby Bell The 20's to now is where makeup changed the most drastically. We saw the round and pale face, the pale blues and purples, the grunge look, the disco era, the iconic Biba style, etc. Even present day, it wasn't until only a few years ago that contouring and highlighting started being sensationalized.
Health and youth are two beauty "styles" that are universal and timeless. Everything else comes and goes. :) Wear sunscreen and take care of your skin, and have fun with the rest!
Yea...whenever I get braid extensions on my hair, I always make sure I pick the blackest hair and then do a cat eye liner and it looks so simple but fierce...and turns heads too lol....can't wait to put twists back this summer...whoohoo
I found the Indian really beautiful too. But that makes me wonder if my preference has anything to do with my being Indian... On an unrelated note, great video, BuzzFeed! :D
They kind of did it badly... I saw a real geisha do this makeup and it was beautiful ! Just look at the ancient egyptian, I'm totally in love with this kind of look but it was so bad in this video !
Please go and look up actual, real geishas! They have so much grace and beauty, it is stunning! This makeup artist unfortunately did not do a good job at her makeup.
victorian is so the best, also their clothes were amazing i own a few victorian corsets and dresses i love them theyre so gorgeous and amazing i dont get why we cant still dress like that come on people top hats are awesome haha
ky0836 It is tho, In India !! Many dark skinned girls are considered "Unattractive" and face problems getting married as the bridegroom's parents desire for a very fair daughter-in-law. Iam an Indian and it really sucks to be in a place like this where we cannot do much about our skin color. Getting yourself tanned when you're pale is pretty easy but the opposite is nearly impossible when you are dark skinned. Come to India if you want people to always compliment you as beautiful just cause you're pale :P
thank you guys, SO much, for including women of all colours!!! it's SO unbelievably uplifting to hear that your culture and colour are beautiful and i thank you guys so much!!! cultural representation is important and i hope every person of colour feels beautiful :)
I noticed that most historical makeups buzzfeed shows highlight red or pink lips, and so do now. In makeup field, red never fades just like black and white in couture field.
This was really interesting. I love these types of videos, Buzzfeed. The ones that show what is considered beauty around the world with men and women and stuff like that. I just find them soo informative and cool. Keep em coming! Thanks
Egyptian women and men often shaved their head and wore wigs to keep lice at bay. Some of the wigs included things like scented wax (or was it grease?) that would melt slowly in the sun to perfume them as well. When your country can get up to 120 degrees in the summer and you have no AC body odor can be a problem.
Kudos to buzzfeed for having a brown girl as the Egyptian model. She is an on fleek representation of what an ancient Egyptian woman from the original kingdoms would have looked like.
I always get emotional watching these kind of videos... It's beautiful how time have changed. Imagine if all kinds of women through times came together and discussed their lives, it would be amazing...
I love these types of videos! I wonder how fashion will evolve in the future and if our looks of today will one day look as different to the people of the future as these looks do to us.
This was beautiful ! It's amazing to see all those things we might be insecure about come off as a sign of beauty in some way . The unibrows , beauty marks , visible veins , pale skin etc . I mean , thick eyebrows were a sign to be manly in the early 90s , but look at us now ? It makes me feel like no matter how we look like we should just embrace ourselves as we are (: we were all born beautifully unique .
I love the fact that I see tons of different people saying "I love ___________________ woman's look!"
It just proves that everyone likes different things, and each type can be considered beautiful.
I see people on the street with a pre-french revolution make-up...
Unibrows were fashionable in ancient Greece? I would have fit in juuuust fine...
***** sorry, but the video wrong...
***** no
***** no
***** I don't think so
***** I thought the natural look looked cool...
The woman who did the Ancient Egyptian makeup was stunning in the before picture. Just...Wow.
How beautiful was the girl who did the swinging sixties!?! She looked so bubbly and rocked that look!!!
Agreed! She was lovely!
Beccalina S She is beautiful!
Beccalina S IKR WOW
I know, she was stunning!!!
Beauty is subjective.
That Egyptian look was cool. Guess who's braiding their hair like that this summer?? Me!!
***** werk it. you'll probably look gorgeous with it like that :D
HippHoppMunchkin Girl thank you.. I was thinking the same thing
***** Pardon me??
***** Guess who's gonna look flawless this summer? You!!
You will look amazing
Buzzfeed should stick to more videos like these. Entertaining and informative.
I totally agree
I wish I lived in the Elizabethan era, then, I have a huge forehead already
Katie H Haha, same. I would have fit in wonderfully.
same 😂
Katie H Except the powder they used was made from lead. So lead poisoning was pretty common.
MiFFiL I'm just talking forehead here.
Katie H Shush. You're still flipping gorgeous.
All the women were gorgeous, but WOW! India and Japan were stunning!
I love learning about this kind of stuff! I never knew that the beauty marks were to emphasis paleness, and I find it fascinating that unibrows were seen as a thing of beauty when in today's society it's like "the worst thing ever," to the point that some people even overpluck their eyebrows.
I enjoy these videos where we get to see how looks evolved over time. It's very interesting to view!
Emily The It I agree its interesting to see how fashion changed over a course of several thousand years
I agree! :)
Agreed
Ikr
Me too!
I think this video is very informative, and all the models are very pretty.
I also think that this is one of the friendliest RUclips comment sections I have ever seen. Everyone seems to have something nice to say either about the girls in the video or each other's personal style. It's really refreshing.
how the hell did she manage to still look hot with a unibrow???
Where's 'Instagram' era? lmao
I love these videos seeing how things evolve like that... every one of them were beautiful
What about the uni-brown ?
Super kitty !!! that was the best
Super kitty !!! The woman has the ideal woman's shape, beautiful hair, and friendly smile, smart, sweet, and- IS THAT A UNIBROW? SHES UGLY SHES UGLY OMG CALL THE POLICE WOMEN CANT BE UGLY OMFG.
Technically this isn't evolution. Well. I guess it's more like change.
lexi22is Same here I love learning about history and I really like makeup.
The Japanese geisha girl is stunning!
Honestly when she came on her natural look was so gorgeous i actually squealed
***** pretty sure she meant the model, not the look
Wonderful, but why did they skip to the 60's and then to today? i wanted to see each decade
It stayed relatively the same :)
Watch 100years of beauty in 1min

Victorian looked best
Spencer Mccall Victorian looks better than anything we have today!
Thats just cuz the chick looked hot af
GotzeGaming Maybe, but I think that it looks good because she's the only one who wasn't a CAKE.
That's cause the girl in it was so fiiiitttttt
GotzeGaming ikr damn im a bit horny now
I love watching makeup videos thought I wear absolutely none in real life.
Lol I thought I was the only one!
Me too
I liked the Victorian Era one.
Lol elizabeth looks like the red queen from alice in wonderland.
The red queen was based on Elizabeth the first I'm pretty sure haha x
I thought the same thing!
S Raktoe that's because in the past only rich women could afford makeup and new cloths every other day and she LOVED fashion!
This girl at 2:43 is so, so beautiful!!!
Rebbie Mercury thanks for the compliment to my gf :)
Grammatical Erorr
Micayla is realy good looking.
Damn i would of looked stunning in ancient greece!
Guess we were both born in the wrong time period... My paleness would only look good in pre-Revolution France
Glad I wasn't born in the Victorian era! I have bad skin 😕
Health and youth are two beauty "styles" that are universal and timeless. Everything else comes and goes. :) Wear sunscreen and take care of your skin, and have fun with the rest!
Oh man, you really should have done blue-black lipstick on the ancient Egypt one. That would have been SICK AS FFUUUUUUCCCKK
I actually loved the unibrow .-.
Cakenrollo I don't know it like it hehe
The Japanese girl was so cute! :O
The second girl is so beautiful even with the unibrow
LOVE these types of videos!!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
***** Thank you TAB can for telling what's needed to be heard :)
Greece: eyebrows on FLEEK
I love how the Ancient Greeks valued highly natural beauty
i like egyptian and victorian, bring those back
....why....did the unibrow look good?? >_>
Ancient Egypt is so cool! I love the khol liner
OfficiallyGirly Same! It was one of my favorites.
Thank you we Egyptians love kohl so much ... just try to visit one of our weddings and you will find that every single woman uses kohl 😊☺
OfficiallyGirly Thanks
Yeah! Even men wore makeup and wigs in ancient Egypt
The Geshia makeup was atrocious looking
They kind of did it badly... I saw a real geisha do this makeup and it was beautiful !
Just look at the ancient egyptian, I'm totally in love with this kind of look but it was so bad in this video !
It was poorly done.
I cringed at most of these. The makeup artist must have been in quite the rush.
Please go and look up actual, real geishas! They have so much grace and beauty, it is stunning! This makeup artist unfortunately did not do a good job at her makeup.
You should do this for a man version
Mark Villegas Right, because over centuries, men covered their faces' in makeup.
Men actually did use to wear makeup.
I think men only wear makeup during ancient Egypt and in France 1700's
Don't forget about Drag Queens!
victorian is so the best, also their clothes were amazing i own a few victorian corsets and dresses i love them theyre so gorgeous and amazing i dont get why we cant still dress like that come on people top hats are awesome haha
+Cake Middleton don't forget the majestic pocket watch, I own so many pocket watches they're amazing haha
I wish being pale was still considered desirable
It is in some races and countries :)
I actually prefer pale skin, I'd choose pale any day over the fake tanning crap that so many girls feel like they have to do to be pretty.
ky0836 It is tho, In India !! Many dark skinned girls are considered "Unattractive" and face problems getting married as the bridegroom's parents desire for a very fair daughter-in-law. Iam an Indian and it really sucks to be in a place like this where we cannot do much about our skin color. Come to India if you want people to always compliment you as beautiful just cause you're pale :P
*sigh* Same here xD
Ugh, me too. Even my parents want me to be tanned but i just simply don't want to. I want to tale care of my skin and just be fine the color i have.
So interesting to see how makeup has evolved over time!
I favored the Egyptian, Greek, and Indian.
all the models look so beautiful! the girl with the curly hair and the Indian girl especially omg!
I really like the Indian one, Victorian, and swinging sixties. Especially the Gupta Age
I actually found this super interesting. Each look was so different
-A,x
The Victorian Era look is fabulous!
Love pre-French revolution
I LOVE these type of videos, continue making more PLEASE!
All of these girls are so beautiful!! Especially the last woman, that blush was working for her.
Elizabethan era was like RONALD MCDONALD?!?!
I LOVE these types of videos! I hope they make more! They were all so gorgeous!
I love this series. I found it interesting how the Victorian era makeup was so minimalistic.
thank you guys, SO much, for including women of all colours!!!
it's SO unbelievably uplifting to hear that your culture and colour are beautiful and i thank you guys so much!!!
cultural representation is important and i hope every person of colour feels beautiful :)
3:04 both types are how I like my women.
eDubtheBeast Caryl stop.

This video is so intriguing! Liked the Victorian era look a lot(:
Ancient egypt, gulta age and victorian age makeup look was awesome! And keep making these informative vids 😊☺
The Victorian Era was actually quite nice, very subtle
Oh, lord. That Indian mama was gorgeous!
I noticed that most historical makeups buzzfeed shows highlight red or pink lips, and so do now. In makeup field, red never fades just like black and white in couture field.
This just shows that the image of beauty changes over time and also changes with culture. Everyone has their own standards of beauty
Not really good...
Geisha makeup is not good applied. And who is 20's, 30's, 50's and 70's makeup...?
Watch the '100 years of beauty' videos by Cut Video. They are so much more detailed and accurate.
I already looked. But this video of specially the history of makeup, I'm very disappointed. And there are very few details.
I wish they would have done 40s makeup! It looks so cool
These are honestly the most fascinating videos on RUclips!
Actually, now, we have over drawn eyebrows and over drawn lips. Not that that's a bad thing, it's just what I see as our modern makeup look.
This was really interesting. I love these types of videos, Buzzfeed. The ones that show what is considered beauty around the world with men and women and stuff like that. I just find them soo informative and cool. Keep em coming! Thanks
the monobrow was weird at first, but the more i look at it, the prettier it seems to me :)
I love these "throughout history" videos!
Please do more of them.
i always come to buzz feed for the music
All of these girls, without makeup and displaying the makeup from the eras were all stunning!!!
Anchinet Greece was crazy the eyebrows.. Besides those everything else was great
I adore these trends through history vids. They're great!

i originated from greece and the ancient greece woman is very beautiful!!
The workers at buzzfeed have so much fun! I might wanna work there one day!
Videos like this are my favorite
Someone take my phone away from me, i can literally watch hundreds of these buzzfeed videos a day.
Elizabethan era looked like Effie trinket from the hunger games! 😂
I always get emotional watching these kind of videos... It's beautiful how time have changed. Imagine if all kinds of women through times came together and discussed their lives, it would be amazing...
i really like the french revolution and victorian eras
The girl who was transformed into a geisha looks so cute with her pixie cut. :)
Nice video! I really love these "throughout history" videos!!!
The blonde one they used for the elizabethian era was the hottest
Eli Levit Vicorian i meant
I love how Asia's make-up style (not sure if it was Korea, Japan, etc for the make-up) is still used today
THEY WERE ALL SO BEAUTIFUL
I love the way they film and edit these types of videos
YEAH! GO UNIBROWS!!! #TeamUnibrow #brutiful
60s eye make up was amazing! I am so doing that all the time now!!
The idea of the Greece one is cool
I love these 'through time' videos
The swingin' sixties girl was so pretty.
You don't know how much i love these cultural videos!
the egyptian one was my favourite
I love Elizabethian Era and the Geisha make up.
Nice vid....can you do the men now from these years?
Alex Newell that sounded sexist i just meant it would be interesting to see if guys are the same or not..
I love these types of videos! I wonder how fashion will evolve in the future and if our looks of today will one day look as different to the people of the future as these looks do to us.
Shoutout to Buzzfeed for having an actual black person for Egypt
i love these throughout history videos, PLEASE MAKE MORE
I love learning about cultures and what they believed to be beauty.
I love it when you guys do videos like these. You should do one with fashion trends.
I appreciate what they did for the modern era beauty but i was hoping what they would do for it
This was beautiful ! It's amazing to see all those things we might be insecure about come off as a sign of beauty in some way . The unibrows , beauty marks , visible veins , pale skin etc .
