100 Years of Movie Makeup | Allure
I don't like how for almost every "100 years of..." video, the standard tag-line for the 2010s is that we have become so flexible that people can do their own thing. That's such a cop out. If we look at ourselves critically, we'll see that there are some overall patterns in our beauty standards too. There may be several parallel styles, but honestly, there were parallel styles for every decade. We just remember the predominant ones.
ASB So true, but people might only realise the patters in the 2010's after the decade is over.
ASB these are problems to worry about
I feel like the "no makeup makeup" is the trend right now. Unless there's some fancy event where the woman would be wearing more, the makeup is undetectable.
Thick and shaped brows, various lip trends focused on appearing plumped, for most of the decade people shied away from glossy textures and preferred satin later matte, cat eyes and shading made a comeback, instagram-like flawless-but-obviously-fake makeup (that will likely not age gracefully), etc.
If I were to bet on it, I'd say in the future they'll probably pick instagram makeup to represent the 2010s, much like 80s makeup is seen as over the top nowadays even though there were much much softer looks as well.
(Most makeup looks on TV are influenced by these trends but undermined for obvious reasons)
ASB We're not that special though, lots of the other years saw sudden drastic changes in what was beautiful and what wasn't. The point of these videos is to show how broad the range is and give a small glimpse of where some of our modern trends may have come from
the 1940's girl is absolutely gorgeous
she looks like Rita Ora
Queenzde * i thought she kinda looked like malu trevejo
Emma ruclips.net/video/HfuqJ5Xep5I/видео.html
Yeah
Yupszz..i absolutely agree & 1970's girl
70's girl is perfect.
Megan Moss super agree
Megan Moss aagre!
She looks a bit like a younger katelyn jenner
ya its not too much
IKR! I was looking for this comment
the dress she was wearing for the 1960s was so cute
And you can get it at H&M, no joke
LaceA I know! Super cute
@@BlondieNicoline really?
the model they used for the 2000's is STUNNING.
The same model for 30s fyi
Love the pink Tracksuit.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE MODELS DIVERSE. ALL OF THEM ARE BEAUTIFUL AND THEY GOT ME LOWKEY SHOOOOOK
I'm offended that they didn't include an albino midget in the lineup. Boycott!!
You really should have mentioned the "oversized matte lip" trend of the 2010's. Personally, I hate it but it's so popular in American culture that it deserves a mention!
not in movies
I think you should make up with only one model to find the differences
And it will cost less for them lolll
I really like the 1940's makeup 😂
Edit: how did I get 447 likes?! Thanks so much y'all!
Edit 2: Holy crap why is this so liked
Lilly Ann me too
Lilly Ann we have some taste.
love it too 💕
L
StarGazer05 me too
80's, 90's and 2010's are WAY too understated.
The 80's look was just "When you were born in 2000, but you're going to an 80's party, but still want to look cute."
The 90's look was too understated and the 2010's look was basically a lie, because we all know there are and will always be standards.
Love the solid pink tracksuit where the model is wearing in the 2000s version movie make-up.
The 40's had me shook!! The makeup was so beautiful and soft back then!!
I like the choice of your models. They all so pretty with her natural beauty and personality.
The 2000's girl somewhat resembles rihanna
lil Kim
Hahahaha yes exactly
No... no... no she don't is it because she's black?
No way Rihanna is freaking goddess
I see it
No.
That last girl looks so much like Natalie Portman
Sofia Marques or caitlyn jenner 😝
@@meladysantiago-park3088 yeah she looks more like Caitlyn jenner but younger
I love how multicultural these ladies are!
but why
Ihate Mr. Wires because she just does ?
@@slowedtunesz1667 i think they mean why a different model each time, it makes it harder to tell differences in the makeup
I'm here for the 80's! ❤️
the 40's and 60's 😍😍😍
1980's green eye is STUNNING! 💖
All the girls were so pretty wow
音楽もその時代でいいね!
私は60年代好きだな。
Everyone loved the 1940s one, but I think the 1980s were pretty cute too!
Ok, we gotta agree 1950 was OUTSTANDING
I love the eighties our shadows are so colorful
Why are all these girls so gorgeous and flawless! 💕
the girl at 2:12 looks so much like caitlyn jenner
Angelina Doyle was thinking the exact same thing!
she kinda looked like lana del rey too
girlyyshark trueee
girlyyshark no
for me she looks little like natalie portman...
just my opinion :-)
I know the 1940 girl is gorgeous, but c'mon I really loved the 1950 girl and the make up... Absolutely beautifully!!! It reminds me my grandmother 💛
The 70's girl looks like Lana Del Rey.
Ariel Miller I THOUGHT THAT TOO
emma watson!
So true!
60s-70s aesthetic is what Lana goes for lol
More like young Julia Roberts in my opinion
@@Tina2.1 yes
the last one was the best, so pretty!!
I THINK ALL THE GIRLS IN THIS VIDEO ARE ABSOLUTELY DOWNRIGHT GORGEOUS EVEN 😍❤️ NEVER SAW SO MUCH AESTHETIC IN ONE VIDEO
I feel like they always miss the mark.
they do the looks were all trash the 20s (not heavy enough but one of the cuter ones) the 50s (could have been cute but the girl looked like judge judy) the 60s (was possibly the second most accurate.)
yeah
honestly the 1950s-80s were spot on. The 20s and 30s should have been heavier/more dramatic. The 90s-2010s were just half assed.
They stopped the eyebrow trend bc back in the 2000s there was kind of more defined and less thick eyebrows. Defined full eyebrows are a new trend. I feel like they should include that so yes! I agree they kind of missed it
@@shanshan8687 i think maybe you should express ypur opinion more respectful
When are people I the movies going to realize that you don't wake up in the morning with perfect makeup everytime.
1940s,1960s & 1970s all the way! But let's be honest, the 2010s makeup is great too,it's sweet and simple.
Dude all of these girls are so gorgeous!
My school has a *come dress up in 1920’s fashion* thing tomorrow, so now I’m here
I watch this at least 2 or 3 times a year. Love ❤️
The girls are so gorgeous!!!
0:30 She looks magical in that blue.
40s makeup was the bomb. Simple but cute
Yeah the 40’s was da BOMB 😉
Is it weird that I think the '80s makeup--overdone as it was, 'cos, well, '80s--actually made her eyes look REALLY pretty? Although I think my favourite look in this video overall was probably the '50s one. Classy.
Robin Chesterfield Subtle yet defined!
60's 70's 80's are my favorites!
THE 3rd GIRL IS GORGEOUS OMG
I like 210's make up as it kept natural form and soft and supple make over with dignity
the models are gorgeous
so nice you are using different kind of models. Love it!
1940s makeup and 1970s hair is my fav
70's and 2010s my faves
All these women are gorgeous!
That 3rd girls eyebrows were amazinggggg
60's and 80's give me life.
Nobody in the universe:
1920s, Golden time of China: Shanghai girls. Paris of the East.
I love the 40s look :)
80s 너무 내취향이다... 그냥 80년대는 화장패션 모든데 레트로감성..
50s golden age 💜
I'd say the the cat's eye and smoky eye with a thicker brow have been the look.
1950 !♥️♥️
This was so nicely done~!
I THOUGHT THE WOMAN MODELLING FOR THE 1970s WAS LANA FOR A SEC
Nina Kato same
She is clearly not my qween Lana by she still slays
2:05 this girl = Emma Watson + Natalie Portman
I feel like the 2010's is missing the trending essentials like contouring extreme highlight and the oh so popular liquid lipsticks even in flim.
Why are all the looks so pretty!
2000's: MY LIPGLOSS BE COOL. MY LIPGLOSS BE POPPIN. APPLYING AT MY LOCKER AND ALL THE BOYS KEEP STOPPIN.
why can't I remember the name of that song lol
I like the 1940s and 1970 makeup 😂
Merribelle Wharton
80's are always the best!
the 40s is really charming❤️
眉毛の違いが凄い…
Girl from the 40s look were pretty ❤️😍🌹
Hey! In the 90's the trend was the dark lip liner around the lips! And now is the countouring
The 1940's look is wat il go for """simple, natural and yet so elegant.""""
We had pencil thin brows in the late 90s early 2000s
All years are amazing

Omg the 1940s and 60s girl are so cute! lol and I swear female owned a pink track suite in the 2000s 😂
ngl the 2010s one was underwhelming
now days its smokey eyes winged liner highlighter and matte lips
That's more what you see today on instagram, stage, or some red carpet photographs, not what makeup artists do for on screen actresses. Heavy makeup looks less flattering on moving film and in natural lighting, and can distract from up-close acting performance our high quality cameras can now capture on film. As our cameras become higher quality, less makeup is required to make an actresses features stand out. On stage however, darker makeup works due to the distance between actor and audience. If you look at most television and movie makeup, its a no-makeup makeup look unless the character calls for something heavier due to story (if the character is ultra-glamours, a performer, etc).
its not about what every day girls wear, its what makeup they do for film. so nope.
Jasmine Mohammed not for movies. watch any movie from 2010 onwards and all the actors have natural looking makeup
the title says "Movie Makeup" it's different from instagram makeup duh
it says FILM make up
OKAY I NEED THAT !960s dress and mama needs it now!
Love the 70's and 2010's look!
I love The 60s dress!
다들 너무 예쁘시다ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
I heard that Audrey Hepburn used to take a pin and separate each individual eyelash. Not a fan of spider lashes and I understand why. I love the 40's and the 60's look most. When I was younger I tried to do my eye makeup like twiggy but could never get it right. I just love that whole era.
every women in this video is so beautiful
40's and 60's are my fav😍
oh wow they're really beautiful
I miss the 80s even though I wasn’t even alive yet lol😂
omg my everyday makeup is basically what people who were famous in the 1940s wore. cool.
Marilyn monroe& Grace kelly lips+Brooke shields eyebrows+Audrey hepburn eyes = perpect
I like the 50s look and the 80s music 🎶
1970 make ups are so classic 😍
40's is the most elegant style so far
Great makeup artist!
I like 1940s makeup
Who is agree?
I love these videos so much ♡ I like how the music is perfect for each generation ♡ I loved the first outfit and the 1940's outfit and makeup. The one from the 1960's was cute too! and seeing the pink track suit from the 2000's made me nostalgic. ♡
These day eyebrows are perfect af
