- The Cybertruck may be the most talked about electric truck on the planet right now, but in this comparison it faces staunch competition in the form of the Rivian R1T - our 2022 Motortrend Truck of the Year - and the Ford F150 Lightning - our 2023 Motortrend Truck of the Year.
#Tesla #Cybertruck #RivianR1T #FordF150Lightning #EV #MotorTrend
We wanted to compare these trucks across several disciplines, ranging from the standard EV tests such as range and charge capabilities, through to some of the things you would expect a truck to do regardless of its method of propulsion; on-road, off-road, and towing - we did it all, in order to find which of these three EV Trucks is best. This is the most comprehensive comparison test featuring a Tesla Cybertruck to date.

The Rivian seems to be the best right now and it stands the best chance of actually fitting in your garage.
@futuristic_car_channel Of all the new car companies Rivian and Polestar and my fav design wise.
I think the Ford is best value for money, and the Rivian is the best!
Mhmm yes lovely. I'll take the Duramax 😂
It is by far the beat EV maker right now
Loving my Rivian just hit 2 months
And if you don't want people taking pictures of you, then drive a F150 or a Rivian.
Because those are dinosaur technologies going extinct like the dinosaurs!!!!🦕
Rivian had many people taking pictures when it came out 3 years ago. It's not new anymore like the Cybertruck.
F150 is stealth POWER
@@ryanwalters6184 yeah that would drive me nuts having people constantly taking pictures in traffic and parking lots.
There's a reason my car is setup as a sleeper.
or if you want something that looks like it was made for adults
The R1T seems the most complete and weirdly enough is the smallest 😅
and also the heaviest, BTW
so you complained about the cyber truck and not about the lightening but put the lightening in 3rd place…:
Yeah, I didn't get that either.
You seriously don’t understand NOT using bias to grade vehicles? What a dunce
They clearly don’t like the cyber truck but the cyber truck just outperformed the other vehicle… I promise its not rocket science and its one of the most simple concepts ever.
I love both the R1T and R1S in my driveway and I am not even mildly interested in the other 2.
I feel like these trucks would be more thoroughly compared if they also covered EV related factors like charging speed, vehicle to grid capabilities, power delivery, and charging network compatibility. However, I do appreciate how they covered lateral g-force. 👍
I'll take the Rivian pls
"Lifestyle truck" comparison aka $100k Mall Crawler
every Tesla has automatic wipers enabled by pressing the button and you can use the scroll wheel to adjust. You don’t have to touch the screen ever at all.
cybertruck didn't have that feature until last week
@@NotTubeImthat’s a compliment
And with voice
Why are they using the world’s most aerodynamic and easy to tow trailer? Lol
Because that's what everyone has of course 😂
Cuz it's iconic obviously
$100 GRAND? They can keep them. I'll buy a $5000 hoopdie.
Maybe you made bad decisions in life!
Imagine some high school kids 15 years from now thinking these are beater trucks. Kids I went to school with had rusted out 92 Ford Rangers as their boxes. All of these cars have eye-watering prices
Have y'all compared EV trucks to gas trucks yet? Off-roading, acceleration, in town towing, day in day out, should be pretty cool to evaluate. Obviously interstate towing would be a disaster for any EV at this point.
You’re right, towing beyond 200 miles would go to gas trucks. However, the Ford and R1T tow better up to that mileage-can’t speak for the CyberTruck
Beyond that any comparison with gas or diesel trucks would be laughable. EV trucks are faster than most sport car, have nearly double the horsepower, better handling, and my Rivian is more capable off-road than any stock truck. And my last two trucks were a Tacoma and Tundra… it’s not even close.
@@samuellake-vx7hyit's great at this novelty thing, but not so much at its core function 😂
How long does it take to get a full charge if you're traveling on the interstate ?
great comparison test!
100k for trucks that aren't great trucks. It would be funny putting an average gas or diesel truck in the lineup to show how pointless these things are.
There are plenty of RUclips videos comparing the Ford and Rivian to gas counterparts.
they are pretty much better at everything than gas trucks, other than towing long distance. And in reality, 70%+ of truck owners tow once or less a year. And, top of the line gas trucks cost about the same, if not even more. A loaded raptor set you back well over 100k.
I'm curious about what makes a "great truck." I've had my Rivian for a year, and there haven't been any limitations. The only thing that would cause me issues is long-distance towing, but I don't tow very often (just like 63% of F150 owners, according to recent research). That being said, I'm not a truck person, so I'm sure I could be missing something.
For me I would Go with the Ford F150 lightening Platinum it has a nice interior, more space practical and the dealership network is there to support it as a product.
I work in construction can i put ladder racks that can hold 10 ladders
Seems like you are not even close to familiar enough with any of the three trucks to have an opinion. Several misstatements throughout about use of features and function.
Okay cyber truck future 😂 you insufferable nerds are the mose pedantic, annoying turds of the car world. 🤣

Where is the Alpha Motors Wolf?
My picks are Rivian then the lightning.
You want a real comparison test for what these trucks will actually encounter. Park all 3 of these trucks in San Fransisco and leave a Laptop and Backpack inside of the truck. After 30 minutes whoever still has their stuff wins.
Thieves can't break into a cybertruck, they'll just go for the easier pickings like Rivian and ford.
@@starshipdriver8536 lol all 3 have breakable glass

The cybertruck doesn't have a functioning differential and is made of a material that is hard to clean. Not great for going off road..
wonder which one is more reliable and won't catch on fire
I didn't see a live stock trailer on any of these.
I'm more interested about that tow trail
I miss my first car… 1984 Grand Wagoneer with fake wood and shag carpet inside! 8mpg though haha
There's literally no reason to buy the cybertruck then for the sake of owning it, which is a terrible reason.
Unless you need attention/validation out in the street like a teenage girl on Instagram? 😁
It depends on what your priorities are. The finishing of the CT may be sub-par, but the engineering is way ahead. The 48V architecture, the gigacastings, the drive-by-wire, the autopilot system, the virtual indestructability of it. If you value those things, then there is great reason to buy. If you don't care about those things, then don't buy it.
240v outlet is a big deal. Stainless steel meaning your body panels won’t be rusting through with holes in 10 yrs. Supercharging network native is also a massive value over the others. Other than that though, there’s a cool factor for some people’s preferences. And let’s not pretend style and preference is irrelevant in the auto world.
How come the base model of lightning is 93k??
Space is important to me, so the Ford was my choice. Cost me $55k too. Not $100k
Exactly! As someone with kids that's why I bought my Lightning too. Additionally, So many of these comparisons don't take the lower end pricing into account. There's not even an option for an EV truck that cheap from Tesla or Rivian.
It was a comparison until they went off on a tangent only covering the Tesla. It seemed very Tesla focused.
Why didn't you use the quad motor R1T? Even that is still cheaper than the Cybertruck!
With AC of course, goes without saying.
No hummer?
Your Voice over audio is to much processed I would tone it down a bit, you could hear the digital artifacts on there voice.
Rivian is awesome and hands down winner in my book. Glad you agree! and R1S is rad too!
I love Fords, I have a 2005 F150 FX4 that has almost 350k, but I think that if I had my choice of these I would choose the Rivian. The Tesla looks like an unfinished experiment and the Ford looks not all that different than my 2005. The Rivian looks like the future.
Can the R1 T have full self driving….
Maybe eventually. Rivian has certainly never promised it. Rivian would probably have to license the technology from a company that has been focused on that. OTH, Elon has been promising FSD in Teslas for a decade - maybe it is about to actually get there.
@@swordedaffair Don't hold your breath, lol.
Can any of them? As the other commenter said, Elon promises for days, yet kneecaps the vehicles by removing radar and refusing to use lidar. Using non stereoscopic RGB cameras and relying on machine learning basically guarantees it'll never be in a state that is useable with full automation, and internal Tesla emails confirm this. They know it'll never be able to do what Elon promised for years.
Get the Rivian to
Europe now
An unbiased opinion?
I've watched a lot of reviews and opinion pieces on the tesla, rivian, and Ford, and as a very function oriented person, I really don't get the cyber truck. Its impressive tech features seem to be defeated by the form-first design.
Hold my rocket
I’m gonna spend 100K on a truck to save money on gas……..brilliant.
If you think the only advantage of an EV is not using gas, your TV has failed you.
Let’s put them through the car wash
Yeah I’ll stick to my 2500 Ram limited 6.4 Hemi. I’m good. Only EV truck I would ever be interested in is the Ram EV lol
Love how they couldn’t figure out how to set the wiper speed without touching the screen. That’s legacy auto ‘journalism’ for you 😂
That feature was not added until a recent software update.
These trucks are too expensive for the majority of people.just for collectors and rich weekend warriors.
I wouldnt trade one for my 1994 c15 gmc.
That’s like a Model T compared to these.
100% you would. They are great trucks.

F150 is the real vehicle. Range/cost are what hold it back from the mass market.
It’s crazy paying over 100k for teslas the interior is so boring one big tablet in the middle
I love the interior, but I agree it's not for everyone. I like the minimalism.
That big tablet has more going on within it than all the analog switches and dials in outdated ICE cars you also can’t afford.

The R1T is the one I'd choose also. Not that my opinion matters in anyway.
I own a CT, not a pros at cleaning, and have zero issues cleaning it. No rust, finger prints come off, and foam cannon works great.
100k for a vehicle with virtually zero resale value
Yes, there are a ton for sale right now for $0.
@@canieto1 The once $70k fisker ocean is now selling for $25k. Their stock was delisted last week. No one is buying new, and the EV market is hit hardest by this especially the ones with deep negative P:E. The EV market from what I've seen, and I travel a lot for work is mostly/solely California.

@futuristic_car_channel it will be a museums relic by the time I've saved up enough to buy one!
@futuristic_car_channel not legal in the UK or Europe, so useless over here
These outrageous prices make these vehicles unobtainable for the majority. Garbage, in my opinion.
Plus they’re electric trash
Just because you can't afford it, doesn't make it garbage. They are garbage because the batteries are heavy, have long charging times, and are unreliable
We get it. So just keep using your F-150 from 2000s and stay quiet
Hääää what are you talking about try to get a Porsche cayenne hybrid or Lamborghini urus along many others and your price will be much higher . Rivian has a very well high quality interior and technique behind it
Yeah the price makes them utterly useless for the average person. They’re paperweights that you now can’t fix in your drive way. You can keep them
A $100k truck? What are you people smoking? And what happens when idiots get hold of these 6000lb lumbering beasts with sub 4 sec 0-60 times? What happens when one ploughs into a Camry full of kids?

Love your sarcasm 🤣
Way way way too expensive!
Are we forgetting that the CBRTRK is also a movie theater, dog watcher, sentry, and will be able to drive the kids to practice some, or make a hardware store run while the owner works?
This is motortrend, they don't really know anything about new technologies and are just trying to figure it out.....
Which is sad because this is their job and they should know better, but really it's obvious that none of them have really spent all that much time with the trucks in real life and really don't realize how many people don't actually ever do any real truck things with their trucks
It's too bad you couldn't have spent more time with the Cybertruck, Definitely the one you've got a hold of needs to go to the service center to get adjusted.
Your big Miss is the wipers guys completely novice mistake to be expected.
Push the wiper button on the right, then the left score reel. Click it left or right to adjust the wiper setting.. The trucks also now have automatic wipers lol but nice job trying to hide your distaste for Tesla and Elon..

No
Cybertruck is in a class of its own. I never rode or drove a pickup before. Not interested in towing or hauling. Only vehicle on the market now that is immune to door dings and I ordered it as soon as they hit it with the hammer. I think its ugly like a Pontiac Aztak, but I bought it anyway for the HFS.
Google Cyber truck rust. You're gonna want to protect it once you pick it up. Wrap, clear coat, etc. I'm keeping my 3 until there are substantial enough upgrades to the 3 or for competitors to catch up before I think about trading in.

The real question, submarines are Rust proof or Rust resistant ⁉️
@@tv-ld3wv rust resistant doesn't mean rust proof. Things like rail dust, brake dust, weather, road salts will cause rust. Also, it's gonna stain super easy.
