I mean, not real hard when it's already a more competent written, designed character and has a whole movie to expand on it. Meanwhile Jared Leto was given David Ayer' fantasy gangster world and was just used as an accessory for Harley for 7min of runtime. I'm glad we have Joaquin for sure. But he's beating Ayers' Joker. Watch Requiem for a Dream and Dallas Buyers Club, Jared was doing the same shit brilliantly. This is a character piece that wouldve benefited him too. Also the method acting bs was way exaggerated and David Ayer himself said a lot of what the media reported was fake and he and the cast talked about how he was really good to work with so these guys are being quite ridiculous. Joaquin is also a method actor btw. Like jeez chill out a bit. Anyway, this movie is looking brilliant I can't wait.
Thank you Ace Jared Leto is a great actor but WB/DC/Ayers didn't give him that on screen time to flex his acting muscles. Plus you had fans who didn't want to look pass his tattooed look to see there was something to his Joker. The time he was on screen that look in his eyes can scare you.
Lol, so better a ruler on the road to hell than a servant in . . . purgatory? Nice pick up on the symbolism. Was still reeling from the classic costume appearance.
Funny thing is that, IIRC, it was Kevin Feige who said that DC would do better focusing on making good standalone films rather than try to just mash everything together as quickly as possible.
It has more a "Taxi Driver" vibe than anything else. It looks to have another nod to "The King of Comedy" as well with the cameo by Robert De Niro as the talk show host. I'm still thinking Joker's final make-up pays a bit of homage to the TV show version.
It also plays with the design and colors used by John Wayne Gacy (serial killer) when he dressed as Pogo the clown. Which btw is the name on the wall of the comedy club in this trailer. This take I hope changes the entire DC Batman approach.
I felt really uneasy watching this trailer, in a good way (if that's even possible). It really shocked me and I've gone from not being interested in this to totally intrigued. Colour me interested.
‘Falling Down’, a movie directed by Joel Schumacher. Wait, Joel Schumacher? The guy who directed ‘Batman and Robin’? He’s somehow an inspiration for a Batman related movie? Never expected that...
Long life to Joaquín Phoenix, he is great (I saw him for the first time in Gladiator). If he wins the Oscar it will be beautiful, because Joaquín was friend of Heath Ledger... And because will be a tribute to his brother River, who died en 1993, and he was a great actor too. Great reaction friends, the man in the right side of the video is very pretty, pretty smile. Peace and love from Chile :)
I always said that the reason Batman is awesome its in big part because he has the BEST rogue's gallery of any comic book character ever and those great villains make for great stories.
8:00 In the Dark Knight, Ledger's Joker stood out more than Batman because of Bale , not the character itself. Bale just wasn't in the same level of acting as Ledger.
I partly agree. But I'd say it's more of the way he was written for th3 film. I mean, can you imagine how amazing joker would be if Nicholson was given full roam for the 80s role?
Now I understand how one guy, with no super power, no monstrous intelligence, no money, no authority, but madness alone can stand up as the best villain in DC universe. Joker was made by society. You cant kill society, another Joker will just rise up.
Loved your reaction right after the trailer! I'm really sold by this trailer and really surprised how it's not any ordinary comic book movie and looks nothing like it, it's more like a character study. Really sold by Joaquin Phoenix's performance. Heath Ledger will still no doubt be the best but Phoenix seems like he will be close to it or equally good! Really interested about the other cast members too. The girl smiling at Joaquin in the donut store is Zazie Beetz from Deadpool. The talk show host is Robert DeNiro. And also cool to know the guy on TV about the guy hiding behind the mask is playing Thomas Wayne. And the kid behind the gate is playing Bruce Wayne.
Your expressions during the trailer :) Joaquin Phoenix is amazing actor. The trailer is really good, chills and goosebumps while and after watching it :)
Finally someone made a movie of the joker alone man this movie is about his roughness life that joker gets bully that's what I was waiting for, a movie that explain everything to know about the joker why he was so crazy how did he become crazy the joker have many time lines so this one is one of them and finally we have one not the aggressive batman that bullies the joker all the time man I was waiting for this for all my life I know there's a little Bruce Wayne in the movie but it's the joker on his beginnings.
... the silence... is awesome Looking back, I completely see the hesitation and concern going in ... it's fun to go back and watch these again, knowing what we know now
I almost clicked away with the beginning cynicism of the video, but I had to stay for the reaction. I knew you'd be turned around and had to see the expressions. It was rewarding to see the turnaround that I expected. :p Every single time I see this trailer, I get chills. If you let it be its own movie in its own kindaverse, I think it'll blow everyone away.
Arthur Fleck is the name of the joker in The Killing Joke, a comic book from 1998 if I remember well, so it's a coincidence. But a nice one nonetheless, nice observation!
I had the same reaction to this trailer. I think we all like these moves mainly with the joker in them because we have a peace of joker inside of us. Congrats to the man. It looks like he really went for it in this trailer. Can't wait
It's nice to see some ambivalence initially about the film. Seems many were real eager to see Phoenix's rendition, and I had no clue this film was even a thing. Gotta admit, kinda dig the different vibe it gives. Ledger's could be somewhat related to, but not really all that sympathetic. This certainly looks promising.
Joaquin Phoenix actually declined this role before because he doesn’t want any sequels. And Leonardo was supposed to be the Joker. Bradley Cooper is one of the producers
Do we need a new Joker again? This question was probably asked by many when the Origin Story by Todd Phillips was announced. But Joaquin Phoenix erases all doubts in the first trailer. I predict an Oscar Nomination Best Actor in a leading Role.
"Falling Down" is exactly what I was thinking of -- along with "Taxi Driver" ... the latter fitting since Scorsese is a producer on this flick and DeNiro is in it. I've said it a few places, when D-Fens in "Falling Down" says "I'm the bad guy? When did I become the bad guy" -- it's EXACTLY the type of line I could see this early prototypical Joker deliver. Like minds.
I felt this film was trying to show that the joker isn't a "cool" character. The Leto Joker wanted to make Joker cool and sexy but that's not him. Joker is tragic, deranged, damaged, and full of hatred. Much of the public almost celebrates mental illness but this movie wipes all that off the table and points to what it truly is and I don't think a lot of people are going to be comfortable watching how much the every day person can contribute to making a Joker every day.
I love this trailer. Watching your reaction is the 4th time I've seen the trailer and I like it more each time I see it. I watched a breakdown of the trailer yesterday and it talked about the man on the television talking about the criminal wearing a mask was Thomas Wayne and the scene where Joker is making the kid smile through the gate... that's Bruce!
Bruce Wayne is in this movie as a kid, it is a character piece but also kind of shows that Gotham was messed up long before Batman came along which is something they rarely touch upon
I really hope this brings Joaquin back into major acting roles. He’s gone so overlooked as an actor partly due to his personal preference of roles and partly due to people not knowing his potential to be a very deep and intricate character. It’s crazy how he does this purely through facial expressions and small nuances, he can be so impactful on a movie without much dialogue but his talent is undeniable! So glad he got a lead that has people excited for
Many modern iterations of Joker in other media have kind of adopted this concept that he was a really good guy before the world finally broke him. And actually this origin makes him eventually a way better villain. I think this may be the DC answer to Logan. This may be an R-rated character piece. Also, this takes place in 1981. The little boy is Bruce Wayne and the guy on the television is Thomas Wayne. I think Joker’s mother dies and that sends him over the edge. I also think we see Bruce’s parents killed in this movie. I don’t know if Joker does it or not. But I think that shot of Joker making him smile is after his parents are dead. This movie looks amazingly good. This could be better than Ledger’s Joker. That’s about the highest praise I can give.
The beauty of the Joker is he’s always been somewhat relatable to the common man’s struggle against society, and what any of us could do with one bad day. Heath was amazing as a developed Joker, but Joaquin will kill in this role as we get to finally see the Joker become himself in live form. I’ve always been under the firm belief that Joker is Batman without all the money and glamor.
In 1981, a failed stand-up comedian turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City, slowly rising up to become a frightening legend. Inspired by Martin Scorsese writings and films, remember its a STAND ALONE movie of just joker only Movie reminds me of ONE WHO FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST & TAXI DRIVER
The little kid he "makes" smile is Bruce Wayne so hopefully this can be the first of many in a new timeline/franchise. It's done right by building the character up. I want anticipation in movies like Jaws, ET the dark knight building to Bruce Wayne becoming Batman.
Imo I actually like Leto’s portrayal of the Joker for what he had and it’s not fair to compare it to ones that had/have a whole movie, that being said I’m also a big fan of what I’m seeing here I got chills and can’t wait to watch this.
i think the scene where Robert De Niro invites Joker on to his what im guessing is a late night talk show or something i think we might see the infamous audience mass murder from Dark Knight Returns...im hoping at least lol
Hey guys! We love your content. Think its funny how this movie turned out. Its so good but it didnt hit you it was good until 30 minutes after watching it and heading home
It's a crime that you've never seen Falling Down. It's one of the best movies ever from a time when action movies ruled the world. Michael Douglas is brilliant (like always).
@@pReviewd There is no question that you'd rather turn out right about something than wrong. That type of intelligence is an advantage in life. So keep nailing.
This movie isn’t out yet and Jared Leto has already been far outdone. Outshined. Out-Jokered.
Cherie Alexander FACTS 💯

Ace well yeah, that’s overall what I was getting at. I was just kinda throwing a little joke out there. But yes, this movie does look incredible.
You're really gonna blame Jared Leto for getting so much joker footage cut out of the movie
This movie is going to be extremely interesting. That last shot of him, just staring, with that unique makeup, is completely chilling.
Using the light and shadows to make the makeup look like a skull was awesome.
I don't get scared easily, but being stuck there with him and seeing that face before the lights go off, fuck
Victor Bastos if you look in the elevator last shot he actually smirks right before it pans over and says October.
Oscar Alert ! Oscar Alert ! 🚨
I agree with you there!
Don’t bother nomination, just give it to him
Yes I mean come on Martian Scorsese is executive producer I would love to see this be nominated
Obvious Alert! Obvious Alert! (insert cute police-looking alarm light emoji here cause IDGAF)

“It’s not that the system failed me; ...I’m not even IN the system...”
That’s a great way to put it!
YES!!! When he said that, I literally paused the video and said, "Exactly!!!"
yeah what an awesome phrase for the Joker
I love that silence after the trailer had ended
Majerník Tomáš to their faces haha
And they give it 3 out 5 😂
Best part of their reaction!
Towards the beginning he is seen walking up the stairs sadly but towards the end he is dancing down the stairs as the joker
Lol, so better a ruler on the road to hell than a servant in . . . purgatory? Nice pick up on the symbolism. Was still reeling from the classic costume appearance.
The uphill battle out of hell to sadly dancing into it
Going up is struggle against everything bad happening to him and around him
And going down is descend into madness. While dancing, obviously :D
Guys DC is making one hell of a comeback. Walter Hamada deserves a lot of credit for this turnaround.
Lois Kent it’s an amazing time just wish we would get man of steel 2
Funny thing is that, IIRC, it was Kevin Feige who said that DC would do better focusing on making good standalone films rather than try to just mash everything together as quickly as possible.
This is all Todd Phillips though. It's his script, his cast, his direction etc.
And Scott Silver is the co writer. The guy who did The Fighter and 8 Mile
"Some people just wanna watch the world burn" this movie will explain why...
If it does a good enough job of it, then we'll agree with the mindset.

Falling Down meets Taxi Driver. This movie will escalate really bad towards the end, and I can't wait to witness it. Looks amazing!
I actually hope it will escalate badly, with Arthur going from troubled-but-sympathetic to full-on downright EVIL, completing the transformation.

Music by Charles Chaplin, Lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons
Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
you’ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through
for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile what’s the use of crying
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you’ll just
Smile
