Joaquin Phoenix is truly a actor with skill. This trailer is so good, chills and goosebumps while and after watching it :)
I just love how much his walking says of him, compare his walking in the first seconds and then on the final ones, the guy on the first seconds no longer exists
and how tired and weighed down he appeared in the first scene at the stairs representing him trying to stay sane and how its grinding him into nothing then at the end the sun is out and hes dancing down the stairs his head held high insane but happy
I love how Arthur is all hunched and tight, but Joker swaggers down that hallway

A couple of years ago, in one of the DC Comics stories, Batman gets the opportunity to sit in The Mobius Chair, which has access to knowledge spanning the entire universe. He asked it for the real identity of The Joker. Batman was shocked to find out that there are THREE JOKERS!!! Since this movie is set in the early-1980s, this may be the story of the man (the pre-Batman Joker) who inspired all of the others to take up the name of The Joker, because of the things that he did.
You can almost chart Arthur's descent into madness in this trailer.

Yes. I don't think it's coincidence. Just think of how AHS usually humanizes it's "evil" characters, and even makes you cry for them. Frances Conroy just drives home that point in this movie.

Looks like they're taking some things from Killing Joke, whereas the Joker's main point is that all it takes is one bad day to create a madman.

If you haven't read the comic The Killing Joke I recommend you to do so, this movie seems to get some inspiration from that one when it comes to the manner of the pre-joker personality and such.

I think it's fitting in today's society that it is society and its flaws that ultimately creates the joker, the years of neglect compiled with a mental illness that doesn't get treated properly is a very real thing in todays society so it's a good basis for an origin story.
Also Joaquin Phoenix is a terrific actor and I think he will nail this performance.

I believe Martin Scorsese is a producer on this, and you get the tone and period of Taxi Driver and his descent into madness and some The King of Comedy which stars Robert Deniro in both and he's playing the comedy club or variety show host. It also has some Falling Down and Charlie Chaplin stuff. It definitely is following A Killing Joke graphic novel and could be an Elseworlds stand alone. Joker is supposed to be about 12-15 years older than Bruce Wayne.
It is announced this is not canon to the DCEU. Ironically - What is canon -> The Joker's past & origin story is multiple choice. This movie explores just one of those. As a movie trailer, this is epic IMO.

It`s a one-off origin film for Joker.It is,however,rumored that Batman and Joker are paternal half-brothers in this film`s universe unbeknownst to either of them and since Joaquin Phoenix(Arthur Fleck/Joker) and Dante Pereira-Olsen(Young Bruce Wayne,the future Batman)have played relatives or the same character at different ages in the past,it`s highly likely!

DC might just be hush hush about it, might be part of the roll out scheme. As to where, marvel constantly told us the movies to come and their connections. 🤔

First off, greetings from a fellow Dr. Who/Torchwood/Red Dwarf/Hitchhiker's and general BBC-a-phile, although I have a lot of catching up with the Doctor. You see I'm still not finished with David Tennant's phase (Tennant is my Doctor), not to mention the whole of Peter Capaldi's Doctor and now Jodie Whittaker's Doctor. Joker's mom, Penny Fleck, should be familiar to you because it's Frances Conroy from the American Horror Story series, Six Feet Under, Catwoman, Arrested Development, etc. Batman is the kid the Joker whose mouth he had put his "Stranger Danger" fingers, Yum! DC needs this or else they may be on the decline movie $$$ money wise. I recently saw Shazam! and thought it was great, only to find out that the mere act of having an early screening kinda ruined it for those watching it for the first time because there were 2nd-time viewers mixed in so those guys lacked the "surprise" factor that first-timers had so it wasn't buzzing with energy.
