This honestly looks so freaking good, I can't believe it. It's not super hero movie, it's a character movie and that's why we love the Joker. Phoenix is perfect
i've watched this trailer probably a dozen times today and the one thing that blows my mind is where he's on the subway, and right before the guy hits him, his expression.. That to me if you really look, he knows it's coming, he's angry, frustrated, scared, and about to go postal in his head. That is incredible acting, it just grabs me, you see the moment where he really loses it in that. I love Joaquin and this is going to be incredible

the part were he is forcing a smile with his fingers is what gets me....

This is what I love about DC. Hit or miss, they always bring something new to the table that is never quite like the one before.

Yeah, this is why I kind of resent Disney as well. As much as I like the MCU, they would never take risks on a character-driven, CGI-less movie like this. They always go for the low-risk family friendly films.

@@xllSPYllx Everything old is new again. being a teen and young adult in the 80's, I remember New York City at that time. There is a significant news story in the mid-80's that dovetails right into this movie because of that, I pretty much figured out what is happening in this trailer. I'll be nice and not give it away.

This is one of those trailers where you hope there isn't another one until release.
This movie looks beautifully wicked! The 2 scenes that stand out are his walk up the concrete steps with him just looking broken and defeated and then him later coming down the same steps reborn as The Joker! I can't wait to see this movie!

It's like an homage to "King of Comedy". That movie like the trailer is good but very creepy.
I love that stair scene,at the beginning of the trailer.It's something like he's hanging to his sanity.And at the end,on the same stairs,he downfalls into insanity so easily,embracing his true self.

I couldnt possibly be more on board when Todd Phillips was first announced as director it was a wierd choice to me but this looks like he truly understand the background of the joker character this looks sadistic unnerving and an accurate portrayal of a man driven to absolute insanity gives me Taxi Driver vibes Joaquin is an absolutley masterclass actor cannot wait

you can think about it as one of the possible ways the joker himself thinks hes coming from. Like mentally thinking thats what happened but there are other ways in his head

I like how this joker just exudes confidence and charisma. He looks so smug like he's in on some kind of joke. This could be the most accurate portrayal of the clown prince of crime yet.

I think their take on showcasing the horrors of society treating mental illness to one's breaking point is what makes this trailer and Joaquin's performance so compelling.

This is some next level stuff. An actual character study about the Joker, with one of the most talented actors working today. Also, yeah the Falling Down comparison is good, didn't even cross my mind.
Chills. Goosebumps. I got it all when watching the trailer and the way he starts walking, posing, reacting, this is the joker. Yes Heath ledger is on our wall of best joker's but I think they will kill it with this.

I liked this. Something to get genuinely excited about. It looks like they'll subvert our expectations in a GOOD way.
In The Taxi Driver we side with Travis Bickle for 90% of the movie, you visibly see his decline into madness. By the end of the film, although labelled as a hero by many, we see him as a villain. The Joker feels like a very similar theme and one I cannot wait to experience.
The new Joker trailer has just dropped and it looks amazing! It's dark and gritty all over but not the old DC dark but a different type of dark, i would say comparable to the vibe of Hugh Jackmans last Wolverine film Logan. If i were to nitpick anything out from the trailer i would say it looks like it is not in the same timeline with Batman so the question is can another Batman vs. Joker have a future film together? WB right now stays true to their promise of releasing and concentrate on solo films and not to think about future collaboration. But anyway this trailer is dope and news said that this is not only a Rated R but a Hard R rating. Can't wait for this guys!
The little kid in this movie is Bruce Wayne ( the kid in the trailer), the guy speaking on the television about the mass murder on the subway is Thomas Wayne. Batman and the Joker has been done so many times in films, so many other characters to choose from also.

We must remember that Todd Phillips made a portrait on sociopathic behavior in his 1993 documentary film about the punk singer GG Allin whose out of control way of life evolved into a mental illness, so, I think that's why Phillips has a deep understanding on this subject matter. I also agree that cinematography and plot looks amazing

This is very refreshing! Out of all the superhero films releasing this year, this one is uniquely different. The cinematography is also spot on!

I would argue that, having seen the movie, Arthur became who he truly is. His meds were preventing him from just letting go and embracing the clown he truly is.

There is a method to madness
*This* is exactly what I've been wanting a lot more of when it comes to comics based movies for a long time. Standalone films, not part of an interconnected universe or larger franchise, which are just their own, unique take on a character. Not meant to be definitive, just its own thing.
I remember the days before the mcu.
@@soraceant Yeah, but even back then there was still a tendency to focus too much on attempted faithfulness to the source material. When a film strayed it was mostly because they were getting it wrong rather than trying to do their own thing with it.
