Just the fact that you still think that doc that Joaquin did was real, is a testament to his talent. That wasnt a documentary, it was a mockumentary. It was a movie and he fooled everyone with it at the time. He was playing a character the whole time.
Thank you i was just about to say that
fr i love that movie crazy how people STILL think it was real
That was our first movie we watched at film school. Just from the way the documentary was obviously narrated I thought people couldn't think it was real. Then again if you don't know I can see how it can come off as genuine as Phoenix is just a exceptional actor.
I remember that lol. People actually thought he went crazy
yeah, he went back on David Letterman and explained it.
This is Joaquin’s take. He’s even said he doesn’t care what comic book fans think of his performance, he is doing his own thing here. That’s a professional.
It is an insult to say “he’s taking from heath ledger”.
Also, that “rapper documentary” was all acting. The fact you thought that was real shows how amazingly talented he is.
Greg Drake It’s insulting to chalk up his unique performance as taking from Heaths performance. They don’t mean Heath was bad.
Greg Drake first of all. I’m not angry at all. Second, I’m sure you can share your opinion and thoughts without insulting me, but until then I won’t reply to your comment with a proper answer.
Also...He and Heath were the best of friends. I am certain that Heath is very proud of him.
@@gregdrake5069 ledger took it from tom waits soooo
Isn’t that what Jesse Eisenberg said about his Lex Luthor?
I had negative expectations for this movie but, not gonna lie, I got chills after watching the trailer. I’m 100% seeing this movie now
Really? Jaoquin Phoenix is a great character actor so i didn't have much doubt .
Afro Shinobi me either lol I was all ready but I could understand why this wasn’t a movie we wanted at first but I’ll take it with open arms
who has negative expectations from a Joaquin phoenix movie
i know right? it seems like this movie has really captured what the joker is something sad scary and hilarious all at once
Bad acting is never on Joaquin Phoenix’s vocabulary
hate to tell u nahid, but he didn't take anything from heath ledger, he felt it would not make his performance and portrayal genuine.
Nahid always says the dumbest shit
Exactly! I hate people who instantly say a joker, post heath, is being inspired by him. Just no stop. Phoenix is doing his own thing and there was nothing heath ledger esque about that whole trailer other than the fact he has long green hair.
Yeah. Phoenix already mentioned before the movie was made that he would make his own version of Joker. I already had faith in him since back then.
I think its hard not to atleast subconsciously inspire from ledger or other jokers, also, phoenix is a VERY professional actor so he definitly at least studied Ledger's very praised performance
Fred Carmichael he didn’t. He’s mentioned it. It’s an insult to a professional to say that. Joaquin is a stellar actor. He even said that he doesn’t care wether fans like it or not, this is what HE wants t do with the character. Look it up.
Heath was amazing. But that was his performance. This is 100% Joaquin.
Can we stop saying he's inspired by heath ledger? He's doing his own thing. There was nothing heath ledger esque about his performance other than the fact he has long green hair. Not ever joker is being inspired by heath. Just STOP.
Not to be a smart-ass or anything but I guess you could say he took some inspiration from Ledger as Ledger took inspiration from the early jokers and them the comics
"Not every joker is inspired by Ledger".
Since we've had a grand of total of two Jokers since Ledger, including this one, uhh derrr no shit, what a stupid thing to say.
@@gregdrake5069
It's still an assumption a lot of people make.
Thank you.
@@gregdrake5069 3 jokers if you count Gotham's one played by Cameron Monaghan
Why does Rana look traumatized after that trailer lol
She is afraid of clowns. :)
@@tsogobauggi8721 Let's put a smile on that face.
@@Crackshotsteph *Grabs Knife*
Nah, she's just waiting for the others to give her a turn to speak. It happens a lot.
Crackshotsteph Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn’t like that... not one bit
I smell an Oscar nomination if not an award
@@DavosOfHouseSeaworth He still got nominated in 2013
@@DavosOfHouseSeaworth He ain't wrong. It's just politrics. The fact that Leo took over what? 20 years to get a Oscar is more then enough proof that it ain't about talent, and since it isn't, it makes it pointless.
Davos Seaworth aww that’s a shame he would have deserved it but you gotta stick to your morals
These types of movies get little recognition, if any, at the Oscars though.
@lo l Yes, that's exactly what I meant
If you're a fan of Joaquin Phoenix, check out "You Were Never Really Here" from last year. Probably my favorite film of 2018.
GunslingerKT19
It really was, the fact it was completely looked over was amazing.
this trailer reminded me of YWNRH with his mom and depression
@@J_Tevo Too much "Wokness" (i.e. PC SJW BS) going around Hollywood and MSM for the Academy Awards to add that film in any of the categories.
I feel embarrased. I call myself a Joaquin fan, and had never heard of that. Thank you so much!
Extremely underrated
"Am I not merciful?" "AM I NOT MERCIFUL?"
Joaquin Phoenix is definitely the right choice for the movie. He has already proven he can play a great psycho villain such as Commodus who in my opinion is highly underrated and probably should have won the supporting actor oscar.
In gladiator tho
So true. I would have loved for him to play a sith. I think that was on the board before tfa.
"Who shot that trailer" ???????? The same person that shot the movie, dude. How high are you right now? Haha
He should've said who edited or made that trailer, cuz directors don't do that. There's an editing team for that.
ChaosNinja666 that is what he means but it’s not what he said and on the internet that’s your ass
they've never been very smart at all
I did not expect this trailer to give me chills . . . so hyped now.
Aquaman. Shazam. Now this. DC is going ham now!
Yep their doing solo films now witch is good!!!!!
Wonder Woman opened the door
@@libragamesreviews hopefully Birds of Prey will break the DC team up curse
The Stegman I think The Suicide Squad will do that, actually, I’m scared BoP will be terrible :/
@@Atem_in_the_streets I hope so
Heath would be so proud of his good friend, Phoenix :)
Heath wouldn't be proud of this new overly political world we've developed, in fact I think he's better off dead than alive. Might even be the reason he killed himself
We live in a society
† Priest † Please shut the fuck up. Heath was a real person with his own life and had a child. You clearly know nothing about him besides from his portrayal of a comic book character bc if you did you'd know that Heath was involved in politics and would be deemed a leftist (e.g. was anti-war and anti-imperialist, pro gay rights, despised hyper masculinity, acknowledged and critiqued white (and male) privilege in the film industry, and was no way the person he played in The Dark Knight). He was just acting, you moron, stop spreading the vile rumor that he was suffering from mental illness and killed himself for w/e fanboy conspiracy bc your projecting your own distaste of the world onto him. Grow up.
Well aren’t you a ray of sunshine? Haha.
† Priest † K
First of all, love you guys and I always enjoy your enthusiasm on all the videos you do!
Second, that trailer is one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen. It’s art all by itself. This movie is going to be amazing.
Oscar incoming. Joaquin Phoenix totally deserves one.
Great vid guys! Everyone’s reactions are soooo maaaad
Great video, I have been waiting for this!!!
That was Robert De Niro. You just blanked Robert De Niro
so
No one cares about Robert De Niro anymore, it's not even his movie. Quick cameo is okay, but audiences are done with the guy.
@@jackalope_hunter youre obviously born after 1996
Bon Qui Qui facts
lmao@lo l
I’m so happy you guys reacted to this
It's not a normies reaction if they don't do something to obscure the dialogue.
No8Named8Shadow honestly but at least they clapped this time lol
What do you want them to do, sit in dead silence? And they didn't miss one bit of dialogue by clapping, they just thought they did.
Greg Drake
No, I was just stating a common occurrence. I never said this was a bad reaction and/or dismissing how they react. But yeah, they missed the very last sentence when they thought it was over. Again, nothing wrong with that.
@@gregdrake5069 They missed the very last sentence. Stop being all white knighty
@@gregdrake5069 They also missed the very beginning when his name was said cause they were still shutting up.
>looks like Chicago
Literally shows nyc subway and Empire State Building
Haha I said the same thing. That looks nothing like Chicago. Lol
He said. 'It's like Chicago', after the other guy says how bad this Gotham is.
Plus many shots of the Bronx and Brooklyn. The Arkham hospital exterior shot is the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
Lol
I am so hyped for this, i have always been a massive batman/Joker fan and this take on the character without any superheroes looks amazing to me. I just can not wait!! bring it on!
I love y’all reactions. I’ve been a long time RUclips subscriber and viewer and just decided to make the move to become a subscriber to your Patreon! It’s my first time being a patron, but I love your reactions so much that I needed to do this! $5 patron here I come!
Changed my mind and made it $10!
the weird interviews and the fake rap career were inside jokes only he was in on.
abd he was 100% willing to damage his career for years to do them.
it kinda proves he is the man to play the joker
that was a mocumentary where he was playing himself quoting acting to become a rapper
I have a feeling the scene from 2:27 where he is in front of the mic, is him trying to smile while everyone shits on his jokes gotta feeling its gonna hit us in the feels.
I love the diversity of people in this reaction!! One Love!.. By the way great reaction guys.
Great group of reactors
Amazing reactions and dialogue. This movie looks phenomenal. The cast choice with Phoenix appears to be spot on. What he's doing with this character appears to be something very special. This film might just be one for the ages.
It's chilling. It's spectacular. Joaquin Phoenix is just perfect. I truly can't wait for October! An Oscar is on Joaquin's way!
How can you say his joker is perfect off of a 2 minute trailer and you haven't even seen the movie. People also swore Jared letos joker was amazing off suicide squad trailer and look how that turned out...
@@shaqcooper6906 cuz joaquin is a quality actor he can kill this movie. leto is a trash
The editor & / cinematographer deserves a raise
Joaquin Phoenix is the beast actor !!!
The editing of the trailer was done very well, and the cast with the back ground of the Bronx and New York City just made all the pieces feel right. We finally get to see the jokers orgin and nobody could have done it better than Phoenix.
Great actor to a point that I don't see any noticeable character from his other films on this trailer. Looking forward
the irony, it will take a villian to save dc
Art project, the whole thing of him going crazy was him and Casey Afleck showing what real “reality tv” would be like. Plenty of interviews, most specifically Joaquin explaining it on his return to Letterman. Love the reaction vids though!
This looks awesome
Good shit, gives me chills
After Leto’s versión I wasn’t excited, but then I went to see it and now I am in love with this version of the joker.
I almost couldn't react to this properly. I was hooked from that first creepy smile
It’s always good to know you’re in a hurry to leave when watching your video
Charlie Chaplin wrote the music for 'Smile' back in 1936 for 'Modern Times', which I recommend you watching if you haven't already, and I believe he was on the posters on the sides of the museum scene with the red carpet. This looks amazing!!!
A journey of a man's descent into madness
@@damagecontrol7 I stand corrected :D
Basicaly taxi driver
if you’re from The Bronx you probably know of the stairs of death at 167 st , so glad to see a part of the area i grew up in, in the film
It's probably Chicago but they filmed it mostly here in Newark, NJ. There was a lot of talk about it when it was happening, even asking the public for extras. I tried but didn't hear back.
OriPrior66 also in nyc
Hoping you guys react to the Final trailer now too
YESSS THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Notice how the music changes when he's walking down the hall in full Joker mode. It goes from that classic song, then you suddenly hear the horns come in and cast a dark overtone. It's like their saying "The Joker has arrived."
LOL at Nahid's "Who shot that trailer?". I'd say it's a safe bet that the director of the movie shot the scenes that appear in the trailer.
The documentary in which J. Phoenix was a rapper was a mockumentary : he's not crazy.
About to binge watch all JP films in preparation for this epic performance.
Honestly ive been waitin for the normies reaction..
“Madness as you know
Is like gravity
All it takes
Is a little push”
Refreshing take on the character looks great!
"WHY AREN'T YOU LAUGHING!!!!"
This joker reminds me of a comedy show by Stewart Lee about the bumpy career journey of a comedian. As the show goes on his mental state deteriorates. When I saw it live you wonder if it's real or part of the show.
The movie was shot in Newark, NJ
Lol, the rapper time was him doing a part for someone. He was hired to be that for awhile. Consider it art.
But in no way was it real. I think it was pretty fascinating to do it though as an artist.
2:22 Puting a smile on bruce wayne..
Joaqin : why so serious bruce?
My wife and I have watched this trailer probably five times. And I agree with her that this could be another oscar-worthy Joker performance. Especially with a first name that kinda sounds like Joking
This reminds me so much of the killing joke universe and I'm seeing it as soon as it comes out
Look amazing. Can't wait. Feels like Falling Down/Taxi Driver with as Travis Bickle.👍🏾👍🏾🔥🔥
I was sold when i heard Phoenix was casted.
Chills down my spine
I really like the choice of musical score they used for the trailer...
phoenix did not have a few rough years. the "rough years" and the movie involved were an all planned-out art-project.
Just came back to this after watching the movie, all I can say is.. wow
It was actually filmed in New York/New Jersey
I read a good comment elsewhere, so I can't take credit:
In 1989, the Joker was made by toxic waste.
In 2019, society is the toxic waste.
I can imagine a direct link from this to the Dark Knight Joker.
we live in a society bottom text
Ledger has stated that he was in no way inspired by health ledger's joker. He's doing his own thing.
r/im14andthisisdeep
Oh 'Oscar Awards'one small thing. When you bring me out can you introduce me as JOKER...
That boy in the red exited 🤣
That moment when you feel sorry for the joker👏👏
That was the best trailer in a while
This is definitely an Elseworlds type storyline.
I'd look into character study of this as Martin Scorsese who is a producer on this which in this trailer has the tone of Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, which stars Robert DeNiro in both, plus a little twist of The Killing Joke graphic novel. DeNiro is the Comedy Show Host in this movie.
I think they can use the idea for a Batman film because Joker is supposed to be 12-15 years older than Bruce Wayne who's the boy he tries to make a smile on . Zazie Beatz might turn into Harley Quinn if she utters a line in the Diner scene like, "That's funny Mr. J" and he responds like, "Mr. J?" and she replies back, "You know, J as in Joker..."
It's Rated R supposedly so it's going to have some violence in it for sure.
Everyone's beard game is on point.
The documentary where he became a rapper is an experimental film. He is only acting like he lost his shit and the interview with Letterman is part of the marketing for the film to further sell that he lost it. Joaquin is definitely a weird dude but he never is "unhinged" like that
They actually shot this in NY. A few blocks from where I grew up actually.
“What so funny” Absolute gold
They actually shot scenes in Newark Nj
All it takes it one bad day
That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day.
Quite true
Joker already won best film award at Venice Film Festival. I can't wait for this movie!
Nahid’s face😂when he said Bruce is the kid😂
I got the trailer as an ad 😁
some of it was shot in newark, nj. my city!!!!
Looks really good. Chills and goosebumps while and after watching the trailer. :)
this is crazy awesome.. i love it i like this joker.
this is a movie that i expected to be good based just on the people involved, but wasn't sure if it was a movie i wanted to see or needed to be made. this sold me, i'm more excited for this than anything the actual DCEU has put out thus far
I was wondering if you guys could react to " the chilling adventures of sabrina"
Woah, you guys been growing that hair lol
1:38 Lol when the guy said Fu*k, At the same time just have a look at Joaquin Phoenix 😂😂😂 it seems like he said that 😂😂😂
I think the part where he was running was probably him rushing to get home to his mother, and that when she dies.
This & It Chapter 2 are top of the list of the movies I’m seeing at the end of the year.
This trailer makes me want to revisit The King of Comedy.
His laugh at 1:41 is PER 👏 FECT👏ION 👏
They should use this Joker as THE Joker going forward.
Ledger only agreed to do this movie under the specific stipulation that there be NO sequel. This is a one and done deal.
This melody gives me goosebumps everything shitttt
One word summary: Unnerving
Given that the last time the Joker was on TV and in front of a live audience things went... down. I'm so excited to see how this movie goes.
"PAPERBOY" ME FUCKING TOO😂😂😂
I hope this is a reboot for the joker like the way they rebooted war machine in iron man 2
