Ever see a movie called Falling Down? Joker seems like that.... but turned up to 11. Lol I highly recommend Falling Down to get that crazy fix while we wait for Joker.
Arthur starts the trailer slumped over as he walks up the long staircase with low self esteem and a lack of direction in life. The Joker ends the trailer dancing merrily down the staircase and walking through the hallway with a flamboyant stride of confidence. Such a great contrast in terms of how he carries himself at the beginning and how he tragically turns out as at the end of his journey into madness.
@Aces Agreed. The smile and laugh is such an important part of the Joker that adding this detail in makes it more tragic. That in the beginning he was treated like shit but tried to smile through it all because of his mother's "philosophy" if you will. Its clear he loved his mother and tried to hang onto her point of "smiling and putting on a happy face," that it is what eventually leads to him actually smiling and feeling free and happy inside despite in actuality having turned insane in the process.
Trent Robinson I know it’s a superficial thing but he has been snubbed in the past and I really think it would be great for him to be awarded for this role
Its funny because Leonardo DiCaprio was actually considered for the role of Joker in this and had a sit down and then turned it down... Im very very glad he did...
@Fifi Lagi Joaquin actually said in an interview that he would consider a sequal because he loves how free and unpredictable the jokers story could be.
I think it's the best trailer yet and potentially, it might be an oscar nominee overall. There are two symbolism scenes that I found it most fascinating: from the beginning, Arthur was walking up the stairs, struggling to be a better individual and trying to fit into the society, even though he wasn't naturally succeeding and the very last scene was Arthur walked down the stairs as he fell into insanity and accepted the harsh reality as everything was a joke to him than being positive and became what defined him as the Joker. This is probably something Batman can't understand what is like to be in the street that Arthur lived and dealt with on a daily basis, since he's luckily the industrialist multi-millionaire. The Batman's philosophy was obviously black and white as he go along, while the Joker's philosophy, however, was terrifyingly grey and more accurate as it's relevant today. Just remember in the comic book, the Joker's backstory was never revealed, that included the Killing Joke storyline as he was an unreliable narrator about his past because the Joker preferred to have "multiple choice." Whether the Joker fell into the vat of chemical or not, this movie is acceptable.
one thing you guys should check out - when he's writing on that notepad, he wrote: "the worst thing about having a mental illness is that people expect you to act like you dont'
@@salsalinas5325 same, that mental breakdown he had on the train was identical to my breakdown 2 years ago when the love of my life left me all I could think was my life being a joke and I couldn't stop laughing
I think that kid is Bruce Wayne. That was Thomas Wayne on the TV calling him a coward. And I think the talk show scene with DeNiro is from The Dark Knight Returns where Joker kills the entire studio audience.
it´s not just that this trailer is pure superhero-gone-vertigo sensation, it is a big bow and hommage to cinema itself. smile, filmscore of charlie chaplin´s modern times, robert de niro on stage as a king of comedy reference, killing joke ... and so much more ...
I will say, the symbolism of him struggling to walk up the stairs (to fit in) and then him dancing down the stairs (accepting that he’s different and enjoying it) is amazing!!! I’m so looking forward to it!!!!!
My favorite parallel in this trailer: In the beginning we see Arthur climbing up the stairs, stoicly, sullen, almost lost. In the end, we see Joker walking down the steps, full swagger and carelessness just descending down into madness. Amazing visuals.
that first laugh where he is out of his clown makeup, is one of the reasons why i love joaquin phoenix. Like if you look how his eyes are darting back and forth like his is uncomfortable his skin but he is trying to force out a laugh (in a good way.) I liked how you pointed out this can stand out on it's own. If they named the film Arthur and there was no "DC attached, this would be really dark.
The song " smile " was written by Charlie Chaplain (great comedian) and this version is sung by Jimmy Durante (also a comedian). Perfect choice for the trailer
That was a great reaction. I liked your expressions. :) Joaquin Phoenix is truly a actor with skill. Joker's laugh was creepy and amazing. Trailer is so good. Chills and goosebumps while and after watching it. :)
I am so hyped for this movie. I think it’s going to be groundbreaking, we have had comic book movies before but most of them have been light hearted and fun, this seems so dark yet fitting for the Joker.
really great! thank you! I think the child that he makes smile is Bruce Wayne. I'm so glad you understood the caring for his mother. so many people found it weird and I think that just voices the weirdness of our own society. Your passion for the character is evident and really great!

P.S Just don't make the mistake of too much zoom. 2:24 is cutting it real close but mostly because its getting blurry
I like the possibility of this being a movie about someone who we can sympathize with concerning his plight, but still be intimidated by his instability, and ultimately take a strange pleasure in seeing him gain a sense of confidence and especially see his revenge against the world which gave him grief. At least I hope that is the approach. I saw hints of Hitchcock’s Psycho and some gritty 70’s flicks like Death Wish. Hopefully we get a full on Joker vs the world flick that really gives meaning to his story.
The thing about his drastic weight loss -- and some other people said it -- is there's some real "the Machinist" stuff going on there, which if you'll recall starred a 50 pound Christian Bale. DeNiro is in this, he was in a movie called "The King of Comedy" which involved his character -- a comedian -- having his own breakdown going all Kathy Bates on a TV show host that wouldn't put him on the air (played by Jerry Lewis). The overall cinematography and feel is much akin to Taxi Driver, which starred DeNiro and was made by Martin Scorsese -- the latter of whom produced this movie. ... and the story arc we're getting and overall breakdown of the character is reminiscent of Micheal Douglass in "Falling Down". It looks the best of "descent into madness" rolled into one. If it's 1/10th as good as the trailer, it should sweep the academy awards.

I've been obsessing about this trailer and watching countless reactions. You are the first one I've seen that noticed the walk at the start. The similar stiff, slumped shoulders, slightly leaning to one side walk that Ledger did. Good catch.
I feel that it was a nice way to pay homage to Heath Ledger there are other parts you can see other similarities as well. But at the same time not feeling like a copy. Thanks for the comment!
"I used to think my life was a tragedy, but now I realize . . . it's a comedy..." Puts chills down my spin. Joaquin Phoenix will go down as one of the best Jokers of all time, fight me.
GREAT REACTIONS guys! I initially had ZERO interest in a Joker (sans Batman) movie, then was intrigued by the casting announcement of Joaquin Phoenix, then I hated the make-up stills...but this trailer...Whoa...I get chills every damn time I see it. Now I'm completely sold and I can't wait for October. They don't even need another trailer.. just leave it at this.
arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/04/joaquin-phoenix-breathes-new-life-into-an-iconic-role-in-first-joker-trailer/ That is one and there are many more. I do believe DC would want to do more, but from what i see from the trailer and JP does as an actor, I would not advise that.
I’m loving the direction they’re going with in this movie! Like how Bruce dedicated his life to fighting crime to avenge his murdered parents joker will dedicate his life to laughing at Gotham’s misery for them laughing at his misery!
In 1981, a failed stand-up comedian turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City, slowly rising up to become a frightening legend. Inspired by Martin Scorsese writings and films
It's what appens when the shadow destroys the person it's of, he has to deal with a mental condition for himself, his mother who probably is too weak to even take care of herself anymore, and was too heartbroken to care of the joker as a child(Where's his father? Abusive much?), and then you have the fact of being told your purpose is to love others, but you feel empty, lost when nobody loves you, it cuts deep into what it means to be human, to be hurt, and just be done with it all that you want all of it to be done, make those who you deem ignorant to suffering suffer, because you suffered enough. Also great editing keep up the good work.
'm so excited for this trailer! If you know comic lore this is finally what is known as the "Golden Age" Joker. Something never covered on film...Heath Ledger was an amazing joker but he was a "Modern Age" Joker...This is the Joker artists had in mind when creating the joker...no fancy gadgets no Harley Quinn just a intelligent sick psychopath serial killer. Before the Comic Committee censored joker This is the original joker.
I looove you two I just can’t stop laughing 😂 This is the craziest story ever, few years ago I watched the Gladiator (again) and I always loved Joaquin. While watching a movie I thought to myself this guy would be a great Joker. Now Joker movie is coming to theaters starring Joaquin Phoenix. I am sooo pumped just like you two, just can’t wait 🤯😩😎
I'm a huge fan of the Joker, he's like my favorite comic supervillain, and Heath Ledger's version is my favorite as well, so I am very happy to see that he is getting his own stand-alone movie, and that they are giving utmost respect to the character and mythos behind him, by making it more of a psychological crime thriller type of movie inspired by _Taxi Driver, Raging Bull_ and _The King of Comedy._
Since there is no definitive origin story of the Joker it just leaves room for interpretation. As long as they get the character aspects of the Joker right it's just about who can portray him the best. I think we will get a good first introduction to Arkham Asylum.
Not many trailers ever gave me goosebumps, nor cause me to hysterically laugh with excitement as this Joker Trailer has. We will witness a true supervillain Origins story. This looks so damn amazing, because it's dark, gloomy, and realistic. Btw, I bet the little boy behind the gate is a young Bruce Wayne. And the Joker may be targeting Thomas Wayne in the movie. Wonder if he will kill them like in Tim Burton's Batman? 🤔
I could relate to this joker , when my mother was dead at the same time i lost my gf and my jobs, having with little money left and almost losing my place to stay. Sanity is what you have left at a man's lowest point... The only thing different was I didnt go around killing people with a clown face.
Flashing out the character should be their priority and hopefully this will get it right.... the boy is B Wayne btw. So it’s pretty ironic that he wants little Wayne to smile since Wayne also lost his parents and is unable to smile
I had a similar reaction to the tone of the trailer, it feels less like a comic book film and more like a psychological thriller. It almost gives me vibes like Silence of the Lambs, or Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer.
*I ADORE YOU GUYS!!!* I have watched a ton of reactions today and I have to say you all are absolutely one of my favorites. I'm so excited for this movie that I can't even stand it. They could not have picked a better person to play this part! Jack Nicholsons Joker will always be my favorite and of course Heath Ledger's Joker is brilliant and heartbreaking, which is why he became a very close second but wow wow wow even before seeing the movie I'm pretty sure that Joaquin Phoenix is going to take a rightful spot in my top three. Another JOKER is gonna win an OSCAR! Just watching the trailer I feel so many emotions and that is what any great story does. I'm pretty sure we are all going to feel sorry for him but then he is going to turn into the monster that we all know and it's going to take us on a huge roller coaster. And I am totally ready for it! I love the "Bruce tease" and the small jump/pose on the stairs is a classic Joker mannerism. .... WOW! Amazing reaction that has earned you a new sub. Much Love😉✌💚
@@TheJMShow Thanks for commenting, thats super cool! I wasn't playin tho, I'm hooked... gotta go binge all y'alls vids. Haha. Have y'all ever thought about doing episode reactions of a show? I truly believe y'alls subs would go thru tha roof! Thanks again Fam😉💚
As a Fan of the Joker I really REALLY Love how they made this trailer and cannot wait for the Movie to come out..! I Also Love How they picked Joaquin Phoenix to play this Role..! Personally I Think that he was made to play this Role..! Heath gave us a phenomenal performance, one that was very hard to out top.! Also I think that if Jared Leto would of had more screen time, he would of also gave us an awesome Joker. What I think Jered Leto was trying to bring was The Very first Joker played by Cesar Romero who was like a Gangster Joker and a Comedian Villain at the same time, but because he didn’t have enough screen time, that really couldn’t allow him to bring that kind of Joker, also I think Jared would of brought us a great performance if he did have the screen time. Also Jack Nickelson brought us another great Joker with the catch phrase, “You ever dance with the Devil in a Pale moon light”, that one will also never be forgotten to this very day. But on another review, one that is missed by many, which I think is an Easter egg, is when Joaquin makes the kid smile, the kid is actually Bruce Wayne when he was a kid. In one of the Batman movies you see the same young Bruce dressed the same with the same haircut, but I will leave that for all to go and watch the Batman movies to find him in. Anyway Love the Reviews on Joaquin’s Joker, cause Joaquin is a Great Actor, And he really brought The Joker in this movie, and for great actors to always have a persona that’s always changing and keeping people guessing all the time, is what makes a Great Actor. And that is why Personally I think he is a Great Actor with all the movies he’s made throughout his entire career, and with this performance I really believe he has another OSCAR on the way..! Cannot wait for the Joker movie to come out.! (((Peace))) 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏼😎🤘🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼💯✌🏼
They sold me with the therapist asking Arthur if talking helps. Him looking away as if trapped in dark thought, then looking at her with that darkness for a second, suddenly a small smile. No, I would say talking is NOT helping.
I love it!! DC is at its best when they produce darker, more gritty films, films that don't go OTT with the CGI and humour. We do not need a facsimile of Marvel, more like something to compliment them. What if what we are seeing here, is just another one of Joker's fabrications? That he is just made this all up and was spinning a yarn for his counselor/interrogator?
I've been watching Joker reactions for hours. I sub'd to you guys because you are both so cute and really authentic. Good work. Look forward to more videos.

I’m loving the direction they’re going with in this movie! Like how Bruce dedicated his life to fighting crime to avenge his murdered parents joker will dedicate his life to laughing at Gotham’s misery for them laughing at his misery!
Yes!💯🔥
In 1981, a failed stand-up comedian turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City, slowly rising up to become a frightening legend.
Inspired by Martin Scorsese writings and films
When that person actually becomes our society and actually takes it out on society!
Righy!? Sad
The Joker, however, has many origins in the comics but this is just one origin the director wants to explore.

How I have not seen your channel sooner is beyond me!..subscribed to you!
Lol you found us now, and thats all that matters! Lol thank you!!!🤗🤗😉😎🔥
It's what appens when the shadow destroys the person it's of, he has to deal with a mental condition for himself, his mother who probably is too weak to even take care of herself anymore, and was too heartbroken to care of the joker as a child(Where's his father? Abusive much?), and then you have the fact of being told your purpose is to love others, but you feel empty, lost when nobody loves you, it cuts deep into what it means to be human, to be hurt, and just be done with it all that you want all of it to be done, make those who you deem ignorant to suffering suffer, because you suffered enough. Also great editing keep up the good work.
Great thought! And thank you!!!
Awesome Trailer reaction guys!!! Stumbled upon this channel....👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you so much!!!!!😎🤗
I looove you two I just can’t stop laughing 😂 This is the craziest story ever, few years ago I watched the Gladiator (again) and I always loved Joaquin.
Joaquin Joker: Throw him in a Bath of *SOCIETY*
Since there is no definitive origin story of the Joker it just leaves room for interpretation. As long as they get the character aspects of the Joker right it's just about who can portray him the best. I think we will get a good first introduction to Arkham Asylum.
The only reaction that I watch till the end. Good job guys! I love it!
Thank you so much!!!😎✔🔥
Not many trailers ever gave me goosebumps, nor cause me to hysterically laugh with excitement as this Joker Trailer has.
I loved y'alls reaction to this! Great vid! I'm so hype for this movie!
Thank you!!!
That just made the trailer that much more epic!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It could be that Joker murdered his parents, and that scene is in the end, and he is to Bruce like 'just smile'.

I am so excited...can’t wait for this master piece 🤓... great reaction.
Thank you!!!
I had a similar reaction to the tone of the trailer, it feels less like a comic book film and more like a psychological thriller. It almost gives me vibes like Silence of the Lambs, or Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer.
Yes! Exactly!!🔥😁😎
He is not a kid but he is a future opponent of joker
Aw wow that means so much!!!! Thank you!!!!🤗🤗🤗
@@TheJMShow Thanks for commenting, thats super cool! I wasn't playin tho, I'm hooked... gotta go binge all y'alls vids. Haha. Have y'all ever thought about doing episode reactions of a show? I truly believe y'alls subs would go thru tha roof! Thanks again Fam😉💚
@@whitdogwhatsup6289 the thought has crossed pur minds! Thank you again!😁😎👍🔥
Fun fact: The kid is bruce wayne and the man on tv saying what kind of coward is thomas wayne
I've been singing that teaser trailer song all day😆🗣️🎶🎶🎶... Good reaction video by the way 👍
Lol thank you!!!
They sold me with the therapist asking Arthur if talking helps. Him looking away as if trapped in dark thought, then looking at her with that darkness for a second, suddenly a small smile. No, I would say talking is NOT helping.
Yes!
I don't need to watch the movie ,this is..
This is brilliant
This is beautiful
I've been watching Joker reactions for hours. I sub'd to you guys because you are both so cute and really authentic. Good work. Look forward to more videos.
Thank you so much!!!💯🔥🔥 you rock!
Well joker always said that everyone could become him, all that needed is just that one snap in a shitty time. He even entice batman with the thought
I absolutely adore your lovely family. Looking forward to seeing the kids join you both in future reaction videos, esp when it comes to animated originals and adaptations. Loved how they reacted to the trailer of the live action Aladdin adaptation. James stole the show😍.
Lol most def!!!! Thank you so much!!!!😁
Dc has one of the best complex and scary and supersmart and best mastermind villians.
