  • In this video I talk about the Nothing Phone (1), what I think about some of its most controversial aspects, and why I think they are justifiable and probably the right choices for such a product.
The Nothing Phone (1) is Nothing's first phone, the Car Pei led smartphone maker has been making the rounds on the tech media recently. This is not a review of the Nothing Phone 1.

Nokia Windows Phone was a great phone not because of the design nor the camera because of the user interface / LG g5 ((first with wide lens )) was a great phone because of the possibilities of developers for the extra parts, but the reviewers gave it negative reviews for stupid reasons. Metal is not metal. The glasses are not the best glasses....
I tried the LG velvet , a mobile with an mid processor, but the design, screen and cameras are better than all devices with high-class processors in terms of software, hardware and user interface
In the end, I think the success of the device depends on marketing and reviewers

Excellent video. It’s true that people want both sides of the coin. The reality is that the nothing phone is not a contender for the iPhone 13 or galaxy s22. It’s real contenders are the pixel 6a, galaxy fe and iPhone se 3. When you pitch it against those phones I think it has every chance of being very successful. I would happily buy the 399 model over all of those….. but I’m holding out for the XR21😉

Forgot about the use case of glyph! A premium in hand feel phone which is unique in design priced within mid range budget. A clean no no sense stock OS with guaranteed 3 yrs of OS & 4 yrs of security updates. A good & decent display with GG5 on the both sides. A good & decent battery life. Again, a good & decent camera performance which doesn't over saturate, over sharpen, over process & produces neutral colours. All with a capable & efficient SD778 processor! Top it with LPDDR5, UFS 3.1, 33W quick wired charging & wireless charging! And the kernal source has already been released, so we can expect some strong support from the developers in the coming months!
And assuming the NOTHING team stays committed to this phone & provides strong support & iron out the bugs in future, I don't know why people hate this phone!

When OnePlus first came out, it was offering flag ship specs at budget prices.
So the rationale was that Nothing was offering the same but it wasn't.
It's just a Motorola with flashing lights.

I think the nothing phone 1 will pave the way for brand new phones from the nothing brand for better phones with better specs and processor I mean they are just starting out and since they offer refreshing design and innovation it is worth the shot it is like how Cherry Mobile here in the Philippines when they introduced the Aqua S10 Pro and many would say that since Cherry Mobile is notorious for bad phones that break they view it with a negative light instead of allowing criticism and negativity to push Cherry Mobile back what Cherry Mobile did is they researched and even borrowed a phone design from Hisense and came up with Aqua SV 5G and it suprised everyone from its specs to design and many of its detractors even praise it overall if Cherry Mobile can do that so can the Nothing Company I believe their innovation will bring more options for us consumers.

But I don’t believe in big youtubers anymore. Just think for a second if a new manufacturers removes 3.5mm audio jack from their phone but big boys like Sammy and Apple don’t. Do those big youtubers let the new brand pass as easily as they have allowed the big boys!
we are losing hardware features one by one from smartphones.
You cant buy a flagship that supports SD card and 3.5mm headphones jack.
There are no more mini flagship without compromise like Samsung galaxy s7 or s10 either you go with S22 ultra or buy s22 with compromises everywhere from display resolution to cameras.

The reason for all the toxic and other forms of comment on the phone is only because of the hype. More the hype, more the words / video tsunami!
This is their first product. Just hark back to the first Samsung foldable and what a disaster it was ( at least for some!). This phone is just about ok.
But I agree with you. The world needs competition. For the better. I personally don't like the glyph and I dont like it for it not being IPS 67. But otherwise, if you put a nice black case on it or have an opaque skin, then I would pick up one as I have a spare 33 watt charger lying around 😉.
By the way, the glyph, if viewed in isolation appears to be a small 'c' and a large stylized 'P'. Any resemblence to Carl Pei is purely coincidental😁

As i said in previous posts .. for me - design is everything. Materials, feel, weight and shape. In todays phones .. no "real" person spots a great difference in camera performance or gaming performance anyway. I bet - provided the same screen shape and size .. hardly anyone can tell the difference between the performance of a Samsung s22 ultra vs. a Nokia X20. The Nokia might skip a frame here and there, but nothing the human eye really realizes. Also - the Nokia might not play youtube videos in 8k .. but why would you want to on a small screen?
The nothing phone is ... fine. It follows the design philosophy of clinical sterility of the late 90 to early 2000. (the white version) A clear phone with LEDs ... not quite a revolution, but about as revolutionary as the first PC case with a clear glass side ... with LEDs. Sure, before there were a few phones with transparent parts (Red Magic) or even full transparency (oneplus 8). There were phones with LEDs, too (various gaming phones). The nothing phone just brings a bit of tasteful design to those elements, combining them with a retro (iphone x) look.
I think it looks very good. Would i buy it if i was looking for a phone at the moment? .. maybe .. because it is different, yet good looking. But it suffers the same problem all phone manufacturers suffer ... most people have a phone and you need a very small window in which people switch. By the time i want to switch to a new phone, i am sure there will be a nothing phone 2 - or a copy-cat of another brand.
Is it technically revolutionary? nah ... but it doesnt need to.
edit: i do not like the name though - its pretentious. something a teenager might come up with - but maybe that is the target group, considering its a mid-ranger. As for the hype - that is just a standard marketing strategy of a new company, especially one with an old face.
