Always a vibe to watch MKBHD talk about Tech when I'm not buying anything
Well for me, anything from Nothing.
"always a vibe"
God you're cringe.
Legit 😂

😂😂😂 say less
The reason they haven't fleshed out the notification abilities on the back of the phone is, they need to keep some enhancements for NEXT year's model.
Same thing I said
bro for real, they gotta hold back all the features
Fr
How did i miss that.
Give them enough to keep satisfied and enough flaws to crave.
That’s been a practice since, what, 2011-12? All the OEMs can afford to give a very good long term phone around the $400 segment. But that’ll eat up into the sales of their big $ flagships. Precisely why Apple operates ONLY in the premium space, where it has segmented the premium space itself.
That’s like apple’s modus operandum.
I love how the scene of your videos usually match the aesthetics of the product… I really appreciate that level of detail
@@SGN334 Perhaps, but I wouldn't be surprised if Marques thought of that since he has a seriously meticulous eye for detail.

I think Nothing Phone is starting to hit the right spots with their design features. Great choices so far and I feel if they evolve it right with more customisation features their phones will bloody stand out.
The notification light of old android phones was really cool. I'm glad Nothing is bringing that back in a way.
agree
i miss the colour specific LED on my old Galaxy S4, thats a feature i miss a lot
still using Samsung J7 and the notification light is just so useful!!
Not much use if it's on the back. Usually people leave their phones screen up on the table.
The small LED on the front was still the best solution.
Too bad everyone dropped it, but I guess it's just a matter of getting the max screen size so theres no space for it anymore.
If you want it back get Always On Edge, imo i like the look of multicolor notification leds better but AOE gives the same functionatility...
I really love the little UI tweaks and the ability to use a quick setting as a widget is crazy good
This has been a feature on most android phones for years well at least on my OnePlus and google phones that I've been using
@@bestofsaluteyeah, I saw that and thought back to Android 4.x days. Glad to see it's still around.
I have always searched for that feature in custom roms but never found it

The delivery of your reviews MKBHD, are absolutely next level! Engaging from the first minute to the very end when you sign off "catch you guys on the next one"!! It's almost like you never want the video to end! Love your reviews man! I'm however still not quite sold on the Nothing phone 2...
Why are you not sold?
Excelent analysis on the market side of things. Yes, a new brand must make it self known with a identity that people can recognise before adventuring a little bit outside of what they normally do. Very well done!
It would have been so cool if the transparent nothing cable also showed the wattage being pulled when the phone is charged like MKBHD's favourite cable
That's definitely just a cost adding gimmick. I don't need to know the watt every time I plug in. It's not like a device pulls different wattages every time you plug it in.
a cost-adding gimmick in a Nothing phone? that would be a first
My brother got me that and it's super helpful. I thought it would be a gimmick but I find myself hunting for that. Great idea.
If you’re worried about your energy bill then I definitely would want that.
@@AbhishekKumar-vx9ub it actually does. The wattage depends on the battery's temperature while you're plugging your phone in. The phone will not always charge at its maximum wattage. Having a watt indicator is not a gimmick, those who say otherwise are definitely anything but tech savvy
That intro, was just an even higher level than the usual mkbhd intros, amazing stuff
It’s actually unreal
It was better than the companies own camera work.

yeah, everyone saw the literal bug, he didnt try to hide it.
Yeh now I understand
There is a lot of potential with the design they are going for, because almost nobody else except ROG has experimented with the exterior lighting, which could become really useful with photography and low light conditions where a normal flashlight might be too much. It's also incredible how far they have progressed with their software, and their mentality as a smaller phone company is really refreshing to see in this age of constant upcharging for non-existant upgrades. Excited to see where they go with this!
Razer also, I do miss that RGB logo as a party trick. One of my favorite phones I've owned
nothing phone 2 doesn't seem that exciting at all....dont know why....it just does not click....from cameras to design to even software...i feel like is it something i need or something i even want for 599!...i cannot understand who this phone is for!!i feel like this is an entire gimmick upgrade cycle...cameras need to improve a lot....and why the hell does it keep getting bigger!...even in software the little things that are give to us....is it even worth it!!...do we need that?...i think a decent midranger would do much better than this...maybe moto edge 40 series, pixel series, iqoo 7 series or even samsung a series....even the charging cable was a scam...make the tip transparent doesnt make it a transparent cable!!

Thanks for your honest review on this Marques... I may also be reviewing this as well soon.
This was very helpful. Thank you 🙏❤️
The way they have tailored their OS is outstanding.
They have hired ex OnePlus staff and focused more on the software than Phone(1).
“Outstanding” seems pretty exaggerated to me
@@cosmiuz2246 Not really. It's a fair statement compared to other companies' lack of innovation in the GUI.
it's clean and simple
It is until it gets ruined by colourful standard app icons.
The resizable icons remind me so much of my windows phone. Yeah it's not the same, but my brain was always satisfied by having more important apps be bigger and smaller ones be tucked away. I'd love a skin that emulates that more thoroughly.
This! Finally!
Such a basic and great idea that’s underutilized.
Use the launcher square home, paly with the settings is pretty dead on with extra features
Optional snapping and dynamic sizes rather than just lg/xl would be slick. If I want to break free from normalcy and have my icons look wild, all over the place, and all various sizes, that should be up to me. That sort of freedom would be top notch.
Ugh I miss live tiles and windows phone. Would still be up to date today. The lack of apps really killed it.
I really love what this company is about, great concept. Love the review
You guys nailed the Dot-matrix with the mesh background bit!🔥👊🏿
I really like the retro-futuristic aesthetics of this phone. It looks like a modern take on the iPhone 4 (one of Apple's most gorgeous industrial designs IMO)
How does it look like an iphone 4? To me it shares more in common with the transparent-back Xiaomi Mi 8 or HTC U12+, phones from 2018. Not old enough to be retro, not innovative enough to be futuristic. ASUS and others have already taken the approach of slapping programmable LEDs on the back of a device (on their laptops), so that doesn't seem like much of an advance there, either. Which isn't to say I don't like the device, but it seems to be going more for "character", like Marques pointed out, and not doing anything particularly disruptive.
@@zivzulander I think they're just talking about the iconic shape
@@AbhishekKumar-vx9ubthe shape is a metal and glass slab, pretty much like every other phone out there. If they are referring to the flat metal sides, yes, that's reminiscent of the iphone 4 but that's about it. There isn't Apple-like chamfering, the cameras don't have a similar layout, and the back is completely different. You might as well compare it to the HTC One, which at least was an Android phone.
To me it's like comparing a modern car to the Ford Model T: sure, you have the same basic idea of 4 wheels and a boxy-ish shape that carries people, and most people will understand the reference, but I'm not seeing much of a resemblance otherwise.
1. It is not at all retro futuristic.
2. It looks nothing like an iPhone 4.
@@AbhishekKumar-vx9ub Thanks for interjecting on my behalf. I'm not going to engage with the other replies. Geez. Some people just enjoy being toxic & combative. (Please let them stay off Threads.)
I glanced at the transparent/white Nothing Phone (2) and took note of the general shape, back cover, and side bezels, while viewing a few Shorts about the Glyph interface.
The first thought that popped into my head was, "If I were evaluating abstract art, I'd say that piece looks like it's clearly influenced by & borrowing liberally from Apple's iconic era of iPhone 4 design language for styling (and iPhone 5 to a lesser degree) , while utilizing current or even futuristic tech (the updated Glyph LED functionality.)"
Maybe the vibe of being an homage - to Jobs & Ive's early Apple iPhone collaboration - comes across better with the choices made for the transparent/white variant, or maybe not.
It's okay if other people feel like it looks nothing like any OG iPhone from the annals of history, and more like another phone entirely (from a more recent year.) Art is subjective.
I said what I said!
Nothing is a small company, which means that these kinds of software bugs at launch are pretty much expected. But they have a great track record of releasing software updates to fix bugs and make improvements. I’d love to see a 3 month or 6 month review down the road

Another amazing review covering what matters. My concern is I live in Florida and overheating phones can be a problem. If it's only while wireless charging, leaving it in the car for an hour or two while at the beach won't be q big issue but i use my phone as a ln alarm like most people, so if it stops charging, no big deal. However if it gets hot enough to shut down, I won't be waking up on time.
Hoping it stops charging while it cools and not a full shut down.

I have the Nothing Phone 1 and after an year of using it I'm happy with it. The things I dont like in it, are the location of the buttons and finger print reader. The lock button and sound buttons are located at equal height, so when a grab my phone and press the lock button , often my hand press the sound buttons as well, which generate a screenshot. The finger reader, could just be better, but its not a bug issue. All other stuff are fine and consider the price tag and the nice design which definitely stands out I think it is a good buy.
Thanks for the review.
After the launch of Nothing Phone 2 I clearly understood one thing it actually OnePlus 2.0 and in this era of OnePlus actually being oppo 2.0 I feel Nothing was the something we needed very badly....😅
Some of the B roll in the video is truly incredible! Much props to the MKBHD team for continuing to improve. Giving me the old school Brandon Havard vibes

Marques you are the king of reviews. You nailed the two most important things, however, I love hearing people bang on about how good their phone camrea is (and it's rated best in market, etc...), and then watch them take a photo and rarely (if ever) clean the lens.
Absolutely love the intro of this video.
I will 100% buy a future nothing phone when they've made the camera flagship level
This would have been perfect opportunity to launch with perfect the camera for the price point keeping the current price.
I find almost a dozen of phones with its current USP excluding the glyph. honeslty speaking glyph is good for non amoled screens. Most of the info can be done with always on display by keeping the phone screen upwards.
It's gonna be like $1800 by then lol
For that price with a top camera system it would have been interesting.
Nah. They should cater more for midrange territory and play safe since they are new. Don't want make the same mistakes like one plus. They were bent to be a flagship killer and look what happen when they fly to high.

To adjust the haptics strength of the keyboard, you can do that in the keyboard settings. Once you go into the settings, under preferences, scroll down to vibration strength on keypress. From there, you can change it between 0ms to 100ms.
You work at Nothing?
Edit: I'm not being sarcastic 😂
@@thanos879It’s the same on a Google Pixel
it's too weird that brownlee don't know how to adjust vibration strength in Google keyboard settings
Phone(2) owner, yeah it sounds that simple but the issue seems to lie somewhere software related as the keyboard haptics seem to vary incredibly differently compared to say the haptics when you're receiving a phone call. The keyboard is quite possibly the only time it is as loud as it is.

THIS is the video I was waiting for. I saw a lot of other reviews, and there's a lot of GREAT reviewers out there, but MKBHD has a vibe that can't be beaten. There's also a lot of nitty gritties that Marques points out that others may miss.

Pre-ordered this phone and very happy with it after getting it a few days ago
I just ordered mine. I like the style of it, i like the design etc. I don't care about cameras that much (I'd use my canon for that lol). The battery time, the responsiveness and the design is important to me so I went with this. I love their design choise.
I've been a Samsung lover for years now. But I just can't justify the insane prices of the new Samsung/iPhones. It's waaay overpriced. It's more than double this phone. So for me they were not interesting. As much as I love Samsung, we need more brands out there.
I switched from the Pixel 7 for this and I'm very impressed with it. Great software, great performance, amazing battery life and the cameras are more than good enough. Not once has the phone randomly shut off on me like my Pixel uses too. I'm very happy with this. Can't wait to see what Nothing does with the Nothing 3.
How is it so far?
I miss the BlackBerry LED notification light. So glad someone is bringing it back in a modern phone

@@dyscotopia They wont, I Studied carl pei modus operating long time ago...
I am developer , and I was the one of the first adopters of onePlus, why I'm talking about OnePlus ? its because it was the same company run by Carl Pei, and Why i'm talking about carl pei? guess what ? Nothing Phone Company is founded by Carl Pei and he is the CEO.
Now why I'm giving all this information? Well, if you don't remember, back in 2014 OnePlus made a partnership with CyanogenMod to include a better operating system and offer value to the open source community, but quickily after oneplus break records in sale, carl pei just decided that CyanogenMod was of no use, and started a fight with the cyanogenMod developers, so what he did ? he just threw buggy OxygenOS (which some ppl liked it) just because it was same thing as AOSP.
After some time he just swapped oxygenOS for ColorOS, I mean color OS is not bad, but they did that to cut expenses as they have a third party company that manage colorOS. But what is the problem with that? Well, ColorOS doesnt even give the kernel source of their roms properly they are not open source community friendly.
so Carl Pei is not even a bit interested in the open source community and I bet my a*s that after some time they will put color OS in the nothing phone too.
So the modus operandis of Carl Pei is, Create a white label company, hire a third party company to do their phone, do some design that nerds will like (that you literally can do with any phone case) (not) develop a operating system, caliing it innovative(but you know next phones will use color os anyway) but if you look properly its just pure android with few extra features.
Make a cheap phone ( one plus one, nothing phone ), make a second phone(oneplus two and nothing phone 2) (expensive with old specs), make a premium phone with premium price that you can get in any samsumg galaxy ultra on discount.
Any coincidence or I need say more ? Don't buy nothing phone ever, its just scam.

Haha, the "CalooOOor" had me dying 😂 that's the spelling we use in Canada too but colour is pronounced the same way as the American spelling.
He doesn’t realise how stupid he sounds when he says that.
I love the look of this phone. The only thing that puts me off slight is the lack of IP68 coverage. Thanks for the review
It amazes me how many fixes and updates I have received on the Nothing Phone 1. They care a lot about the consumer experience and I love it.
And if you think deep enough, you can almost ascertain who was behind OnePlus major operations when it started it's journey. Carl probably took a bunch of smart decisions leaving to OnePlus popularity if you think about it . Nothing is proving it now!!!😊
The other great thing is they don't lockdown the phone. I will always try to support a company that gives users the choice to unlock the bootloader
I like it! And I also believe we should support any company that is trying to do something really difficult and fresh, while still making something cool
Exactly, I hate the stale phone market. I bought this phone straight away. Their prices are also decent.
Plus bringing us a high-end phone for a cheaper price
I'm always in awe of the production value of this channel.
it's mkb HD for a reason 😉
That intro, are we going to see how it was done? It’s magical!
Just the fact that at 0:23 he syncronized "Nothing Phone 2" with him in the video makes me admire the production and editing quality.
It's pretty easy to adjust the haptics on the keyboard. Go into your Google keyboard setting and click on preferences and u can change the vibration strength.
I had this issue already with the NP (1). Even on the lowest setting the vibration motor was too loud. I hoped that they would change this with the (2)but it seems to be still a problem.
@@jeromenguyen3367 yeah that's pretty annoying, some like it and some don't.
