Or we're just still happy with our 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" that still is THE workhorse to have in your hands. The only thing on my wish list is what Marques mentioned: flipping the Pencil to get an eraser function.
I definitely think the nano texture is for digital artists and that’s why it was added to the higher storage models!! I love to draw and digital plan on my iPad, so the texture would be nice, but not at the expense of buying a higher spec’d model! I’ll just stick to my 20 dollar textured screen protector instead!! 🤣🤣
Yes, a textured screen protector like the Rock Paper Pencil can work very well and has the advantage of being removable for those times when you want to see the full capability of the display.
What an insane missed opportunity for them to keep the iPad Pro the same thickness and finally remove that obnoxious camera bump, while also having a bigger battery 🤦♂️ If they wanted to go thin…..do it on the iPad AIR
I never thought of the camera bump but the bigger battery would have been a very welcome update. My M1 iPad have never really had that good of a battery and now it's pretty horrible. I have not seen a single person say "man these iPads are so thick, I need them thinner".
I still have my 2018 iPad Pro and it still does it’s job greatly! Consuming content, editing photos on Lightroom, it’s amazing. Battery is still pretty good and I use it almost daily
Same, I’ve got the iPad 2020 pro and when I browse the new iPads in the store I don’t hardly notice any difference and certainly wouldn’t fork out for one.
Thank you for an honest review, the pencil incompatibility it’s absolute garbage. Not spending $1000+ for a new iPad to replace my perfectly fine m2, but could’ve spent $150 in the new pencil with no problem. Greedy hits them back because im sure there’s a lot of people like me
I’m still using an iPad Air 2 from 2014, it still works perfectly fine for watching videos and listening to music. It is still great for taking notes too. It even works for CAD software like onshape and fusion 360 (fusion 360 only lets you view files). It does absolutely everything I need it to, so there is no reason for me to upgrade it. New iPads won’t let me do anything more, mainly because the OS is the biggest limitation of iPads.
As an artist, the pencil improvements were the highlight for me. What I REALLY REALLY REALLY want is for Apple to make the pencil compatible with the iPhone. Then I can carry a pencil with me and doodle on my iPhone while I'm out and about. And then cloud transfer my sketches to the iPad to polish up
Same here, I'd love that feature. It's why I have a high end Samsung phone with S-Pen, for the pen option. I like the bigger iPad screen, more comfortable to draw but it would be awesome if it also works on iPhone.
I’m rocking my 13 inch iPad Pro from 2018. Works flawlessly. If I have to upgrade at some time, I’ll buy a used m2 pro in 13 inch. They go for around $700.
@ I did end up buying a barely used m2 iPad Pro 13 inch with the keyboard and the pencil for $800. I was going to sell the keyboard with my old iPad and the pencil but I ended up keeping everything, including my old iPad which still works great. I use them both more often than I should admit (usually to watch multiple sporting events).
Hell yeah, to me this was the actual most interesting bit of this presentation. 349$ is really competitive and already does 90% of what most people use their iPad for, while not being as outdated in design and specs than the previous 9th gen. I would have gone for this one instead of the Air m1 at the time of the screen was similar. Surprised he didn’t talk about it, maybe because this is just the natural effect of the lineup moving forward.
The wife bought me an iPad for Christmas about 11 years ago. I absolutely loved it. My daughter also absolutely loved it. We all have iPhones and MacBooks and we've never bought an iPad since. There’s missing of ultra wide angle camera on the back. As an interior designer, ultra wide angle camera is a must have feature. We need that to capture interior space, and it’s great for direct annotation on it.
Oh! They are going to make you use your iPhone for that according to them! But I am surprised that no reviewers have brought it up. That is a downgrade to a machine that is being significantly upgraded on all other fronts. Maybe they will introduce some AI software to simulate it at WWDC.
Their new iPhone app, due after WWDC, will rectify that. Apparently, anything taken on your iPhone will be available on the iPad for editing and rendering in real-time.
Completely agreed. This is the problem with reviewers only seeing the iPad by the lenses they insist on. They are trying to figure out how to make it a MacBook rather than seeing how people who have actually made this device useful in their lives are using it. I’m an Architect and use the Ultra wide angle all the time to capture construction progress and sketch out iterations on site. I now have to capture such moments via my phone, which isn’t an iPhone btw, then transfer and sketch. That camera wasn’t there for document scanning or general photography. I served a practical use in apps like morpholio.
I got a super cheap random paper like screen cover on my iPad, it's PERFECT. feels like paper, and I can take it off If I feel. do NOT get that different screen!
I totally get what you are saying with the “spec bump”… and that makes complete sense if you have the previous version.. but for me (and probably most people) I have an iPad that’s 6 or so years old and it’s a massive improvement. I feel that is Apple’s bread and butter, The periodical consumer. Not everyone can afford to buy the latest and greatest every time Apple drop a new device.
When you realize they changed all the sizes from 12.9 inch to 13 inch or 10.9 to 11inch to "be more clean" when in reality you old magic keyboards are now obsolete and you need to buy some more
Is this actually true? My understanding was that the iPad is the same size but the screen got thinner bezels so should still work? Isn’t that the case?
Why would you upgrade from a couple year old iPad and need a new one and want to keep an old keyboard case? lol. Yeah I’m sure they changed the screen from 12.9 to 13 only for that and the totally different display tech in each model had nothing to do with it. /s
After two years of trying to make the original iPad Pro M1 work just sold it this year. I got MacBook Air. Everything is suddenly 1000% more functional.
That just means you bought the wrong kind of machine for your work. If you actually were trying to do things that needed a tablet, then when you switched to the MacBook, everything would have become 1000% less functional. Don't blame the iPad for that.
@@ronaldbell7429I have use cases for both devices and your comment is pretty accurate, but the thing is most people fall in the category where a laptop would be the better choice.
@@NinjaXM0 I don't disagree with what you say. But there's "better" and there's 1000% better. 1000% is a ridiculous claimed difference. Doesn't seem like it's the iPad's fault.
I don't know anyone that wanted the iPad Pro to be thinner. Most people have some sort of case on the iPad for protection, to carry it or use it in the field, which is a similar thickness to the device itself. Using the existing chassis or even making it a mm or two thicker to provide greater battery life, more ports, encompass the camera bulge or even more robust overall to negate the need for a case would be much more useful I feel.
That's the first thing I thought. I have a pretty chunky case and I don't want a thinner pro, I want a more powerful pro. I like that they make them super powerful because they last longer that way.
With as powerful as they’re making these processors, they can’t upgrade the battery. It’s the main reason people will need to upgrade these in ~4 years. Everything else is really future proof.
Looking at making the upgrade. I appreciate you candor and sarcasm. You successfully talked me out of the nano tech screen and thus are saving me money, much appreciated on that.

I'm getting an iPad Pro 13 but with the normal screen and just putting a matte protector on it. Since I'm upgrading from a 4th gen, I'll probably notice a huge difference in display and power, plus I believe it has more RAM, which is always helpful.
I would also like to add this since you forgot to include it in the video. The 256GB & 512GB variants of the Oled ipads have a 9 core cpu and 8GB of ram, while the higher end 1TB & 2TB variants have a 10 core cpu & 16GB of ram. Just wanna put that out there for those wondering what apple meant when they were saying "up to 10 core cpu" in the presentation yesterday.
@@joshuaisaacallan Indeed. An additional thing to note, is that, that extra core won't make enough of a difference, to warrant shelling out an additional 500-600 dollars to get a 1TB ipad. At most, those who fork over that premium will most probably be getting around 10-12% more multicore performance at most. As for the ram, it should've been at the base, 12GB. No Marques, it's not a complete spec bump, there is also spec loss. They removed the second camera (probably because of thickness), which could be used for creating spacial videos for Vision Pro. It's actually the first time they removed a feature from an iPad.
I don't think you wanna record video on a 11 or 13 inch tablet in the first place but sure, they could've kept it. At the same time they got data how these devices are used so I'm sure most of the time, "taken out" features are not actually that missed by the majority.
@@catalin-viorelbriceag1097 I know they probably have telemetry to base these decisions and I also wouldn't use a tablet to record videos. End Ipad OS and just make it the artists MacBook. That's my vote. (Edit) Valid point some people made: or a less restrictive Ipad OS. Although i say this because it seems to be apples approach to advertise to artists with iPads as of late. Which we know is not the best mode for creation. That and due to the annoyance of having to carry both my MacBook and Huion tablet in my backpack, the idea of having an iPad as my workhorse sounds nice, but since it's so limited… i ended up selling the one i had. At one point, I used my iPad and sidecar, and it was alright, but there's no incentive for developers to think about iPad screen size for desktop applications UI. So putting it all on one for developers to have this in mind and making my backpack load smaller would be nice
Logically speaking, why would they implement a macOS into the Ipad? Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of buying a Macbook and the Ipad? Don’t get me wrong, they can be greedy and all pther kinds of adjectives the human mind can think of. But isn’t the point of them making an ipad an actual ipad and the macbook a macbook are as 2 separate products?
I kind of expected that was the direction they were going to go when they switched it to the M1. It’s even closer now. And it’s the only way I’d be upgrading mine at this point. The M1 otherwise has everything I need, other than a new battery, because I’ve used mine so much I’ve actually managed to tank it. It has like 40-50% of the capacity it had when I bought it. To me, the big thing is that it seems they managed to make those ipads vastly more energy efficient. So the point of the M4 is exactly that, like Marques indicated in between. I think this is a big thing but none that would or should trigger a buy of course. In the PC world things go in the wildly wrong direction with every generation of graphics card being vastly more wasteful than the previous one. It is great to see that at least in some mobile application we see that it doesn't have to be that way. Yes I know, the performance of an 4090 isn't possible today without drowning it in electricity but the thing is that this peak performance is pushed way beyond diminishing returns.

Seems pretty obvious, but Mike Hurley pointed it out about half a day earlier. In-fact he suggested they do it exactly this way months ago. (And obviously some engineer years before that thought it up.) Guess it is obvious.
All the thoughtful discussions about why the camera hadn't moved yet were about the inside hardware. It seemed certain that if they somehow put the camera on the side where the pencil connected, there were a lot of changes taking place, hidden from view. Me. I was asking for a thinner iPad. I’m a heavy 12.9” iPad Pro user for personal computing stuff. I hold it sans case all the time. Thinner and lighter is a huge upgrade to my daily experience, not to mention screen bump. M4 power bump doesn’t matter, except that it allows for higher energy efficiency and therefore smaller batteries, smaller thermal envelope…and thus thinner iPad.
I am a graphic designer and a CX designer, and I desperately want the iPad to be something I can use at work to replace my laptop. The hardware is incredible, but at the moment the only application that is better on iPad than MacBook Pro is something like procreate. The apps that would revolutionise the way I work if they were actually entirely useable on iPad would be things like the Adobe illustrator, Photoshop, indesign, figma, Miro, etc but at the moment they are just hollow feature-lacking and glitchy versions of their computer selves. The iPad has the potential to truly revolutionise the way we design (not just illustrate), but at the moment the IPad is just an incredibly powerful tool that can’t provide thorough enough usability on essential design applications to make it worth purchasing in addition or instead of my MacBook Pro.
What about Affinity Designer? It has most of the features of Desktop Adobe Illustrator with the benefit of being on the iPad. There’s also Affinity Photo (equivalent to Photoshop) and Affinity Publisher (equivalent to InDesign). Also, none of them are subscription-based like that of Adobe’s suite of softwares.
@@franklingoodwin MacOS is not touch-friendly. This means Apple would have to have two MacOS versions, one reworked for touch and the current version. I have both, which is the best in both worlds. As I keep each for 6+ years, I renew one every three years.
Making the Pro so much thinner and lighter than the Air is the most confusing decision they could have made. Why not do it to the Air as a test run THEN bring it to the Pro? If I pay that much then it had better not snap.
M2 isn't anywhere near as efficient so they need to keep the thickness for the battery. It's more confusing they've released M4 so soon into the Macbook M3 life cycle.
Why not make the iPad Air ultra-thin and give the iPad Pro an M3 Pro or M4 Pro and active cooling? Sure, literally nothing on an iPad uses that much power, but it mirrors the MacBook lineup and actually makes the product names make sense for once
I use a 2017 10.5-inch iPad for work (I do illustrations and tattoos) and for home entertainment. Up until the new iPads came out, I hadn’t even thought about replacing it because the battery life is still amazing and the screen is still bright. Basically, it’s been a perfect device for the past seven years. I remember when it first came out, people thought it was overpowered. So, all this to say that its power is probably more about future-proofing for software developments rather than an immediate need. I hope.

Despite the iPad pro getting the M4 chip & OLED screen, removing the ultra wide camera and bumping the price up by $200-300 still feels like a little too much. And considering you would have to buy more Apple hardware and software to fully utilize the product, I dont feel like this should be recommended to the average consumer under any circumstances anymore...
Shouldn’t be recommended period. At this point there no reason not to just buy a used one that’s several generations old if you don’t already have an iPad.
M2 iPad Pro owner here: literally no one needs any of these upgrades aside from the efficiency bonus. Apple keeps playing the specs game but the OS makes the upgrades worthless.
Same with m1. The mini led is still nice. Oled is better but I don’t think that much better. It is great on the phone. But going to the iPad Pro m1 12.9 it is not that much different. It is super bright and it looks great.

is it better for drawing? that was the only perspective i could appreciate but it not being replaceable/removable means it would have to be of an insane quality
For a split second when you said the nano texture costs $100 more I thought you were going to say the microfiber is only $100 and my mind thought “yea that sounds like what they would do”
Well, remember it needs a very special microfiber cloth to clean the screen or it will ruin it. (and cost $800 to replace). And guess what microfiber is only going to be allowed? The Apple only one, that they will change at minimum $50 for. I also would not be suprised if not using the special Apple only cloth to clean the screen will void your Warranty as well.
I have an iPad Pro 3rd gen. Still works perfectly. Haven't seen slowdown in anything. All I do is watch videos while I fall asleep, surf the web, and play a handful of games on occasion. Prior to that, I had the 1st gen Pro, which still worked fine, but I just wanted the new one. My wife's iPad air is 4-5 years old and she hasn't complained about any issues with it. As far as tech goes, iPads are the most "durable" device out there. There's very little reason to ever buy the new one outside of just wanting the new one. My 1st gen Pro is still in a drawer somewhere, and I bet it'd still be completely usable (assuming the battery's not completely busted) even though it came out like 8 years ago. Not an Apple stan, but as far as tablets go, I can't see any reason you'd buy anything other than an iPad. They just seem to be the best mobile devices out there.
In this case, putting it on the opposite side doesn't work well because keyboards and stuff cover that side and it would be awkward to tuck stuff in and like... anyone who wants to pay $200 for the new pencil is probably going to want the new screen anyway. Like, yeah, if they really wanted to, they probably could have made it work, but it's relatively reasonable.

@@devanarayans5131 even if that is true, moving the magnets to the other side simply doesn’t make sense, wouldn’t work with the Magic Keyboard even when open, simple as that.
Yes, he didn't think that through in his downbeat first look. Negativity is the new normal for Apple products; it drives views as the anti-Apple mob loves to flex Apple stuff. The whole wireless pen charging had to be redesigned, which in tech usually happens after 3-5 years; you can improve charging.
The previous pencil was very accurate and great for drawing. Every artist I talked to wanted the eraser option, but no one wanted any of the new features they developed.
On the whole thinner iPad point: this is not exactly new in the industry. Galaxy Tabs have been 5.4-5.7mm since Tab S7+, which came out in 2020 and was all-metal. Since then there were 2 more generations without any sound durability problems, Samsung even introduced 14.6 inch monster Ultra model, which is 5.4mm. If you have followed Apple, you'll notice how familiar this move is and that it is a part of their strategy. They wait until competitors do proof of concept and iterate 2-3 generations of any feature, then they introduce it with a spec bump. So take something Samsung has tested for 4 years, then make it even a bit thinner (5.1-5.3mm vs 5.4-5.7mm) to become a market leader. This is classic Apple move.
And ironically, why the fuck do you want your ipad to be this thin? i mean obv it should not be a THICC boy, but instead of taking the route of: Oh we can make this chip take 50% less power, so we're gonna reduce the battery, they should have taken the route of keeping the battery same and making it last 50% longer.
Only some product escape this kind of reasoning unfortunately but at least the Apple lineup is starting to becomes super good with technological marvel for each category. Still hate the iPad since 2019 tho
At least with the tab s8 ultra that thing thermal throttles easily under load because of the thinness. Saying this from ownership. Having the M4 stuffed in a similar package will only spawn the same issues
Most people are better off with a matte screen protector which is cheaper and also replaceable if you damage it. I’ve used them on every iPad I’ve ever owned going back to the original iPad Air and I can’t really stand using an iPad without one.
I'm still using my iPad Pro 3rd gen with the a12x Bionic chip I bought new like 6 or 7 years ago. I'm still getting all the updates and it runs just as well as the day I got it with zero lag or stuttering doing anything. Hoping I can get another 5 years out of it.
I just love how much longevity these gain from being so stupidly overpowered. My 2021 iPad Pro still feels super snappy and I don’t see myself upgrading for another couple of years
"I just love how much longevity these gain" >> talks about a product from 2021.... bro holding on for less than 3 years is NOT longevity it's the basic minimal requirement for this tier of product, if in three additional years it still feels perfect enough that you'd go on for 2/3 to three years again THEN it will qualify as longevity
longevity? The M1 pro and air will have similar longevity. Battery degradation will probably kill them before anything else... and don't tell me you can have battery replaced by Apple because they go out of their way to refuse the service (I talk by experience, my 2017 pro has less than 3 hours battery life and they say it's still 87% and no amount of money will convince them to do a battery service, and it will be obsolete this year with no more battery service allowed)
So great review, but am missing news about solving the side channel vulnerability. Also clear that buying a new one requires you to buy all new accessories as the old ones are incompatible. Conclusion: stick to what I have and don’t buy new one.
Hoping for a mini pro, or at least a mini air. Doesn't even need to be that *fast* but want them to actually shrink those *larger than the previous design* bezels. Want the ultimate, take it on vacation device, 5G/ebooks/movies/camera etc.
The way they update iPads works for me because I usually only upgrade when I NEED to. I'm not really missing much from generation to generation, but when I get a new one, it's usually a lot better than what I've been using.
Exactly, tech RUclipsrs don’t understand this because they buy every iteration the moment it comes out and complain. It’s like buying a Toyota Camry every single year and complaining it doesn’t change enough for you. I’m highly disappointed in all tech reviewers including Marques
@@KC-bi9jwThats a very good point, it's not a realistic perspective for the average consumer. It's like reviewers have a blind spot that there are people out there that don't own last year's device.
I think the point is, if you already own an iPad great, no need to buy another one as they're all perfectly fine, if you dont own an iPad this is a good buy that you know will last you 10 years
No offense to Marques, but Ridge wallets are stupid expensive for what you get. My Travelambo is $8.99, has RFID blocking, and is FAR thinner than a Ridge wallet. Sure, it's "only' leather and not carbon fiber, but at less than 1/10 the price, who are we kidding?
I remember back when the first iPad Pro came out it was “the ultimate PC replacement” It’s 2024 and it just got a Magic Keyboard that truly simulates the Mac’s
Thank God for aftermarket.... Zagg makes some great products (keyboards) as well as logitech for the ipad pro. I've been rocking the home and function row of buttons for years.
The crazy thing about an iPad as a "PC replacement" is you aren't even the admin of your iPad. You can't even have multiple user accounts or install whatever app you want. How can it be a PC replacement when you have less privileges on it than you did on Windows 95?
For folks in the VFX/Editing/CG/Industrial Design/MedicalViz/ArchViz industries that spec bump is worth it... but thats for high end pro use.. for you know the pro version of iPad. Can already do things we couldn't do on previous spec setups. Our apps built with Unreal Engine for live virtual production on set w/these is damn pretty sweet. 🕶
Would really like to see some in-depth comparisons and analysis on the Nano-Texture display vs the regular glossy one as this is something we probably can't change once the purchase is made, so it's a pretty big feature to consider before buying one.
I did that comparison in the Apple store when I bought my Studio Display, which does also offer the nano texture. The effect of reducing glare is phenomenal. While I can control the lighting in my workspace, so that no lights directly reflect on the screen, on the normal glas I still can see a light reflection of my face in black areas, while this is completely gone with the nano texture. On the other hand, the nano display had considerably less contrast and looked a bit washed out, while the normal one has really great colors and contrast. When displaying text or fine details like fine lines, I could see that the edges of fine details like on letters are washed out and softened a bit, which annoyed me. So it comes down to your requirements. Are you working with images and video, and can't control the lighting in your workspace? Then the nano texture could be right for you. When working mainly with text, for example web browsing, writing documents, programming, then the standard display is way better. Personally, I went with the standard display. From what I've seen from the new iPad reviews so far, the advantages and disadvantages of the iPad nano texture are exactly the same as on the Studio Display.
@@andyH_Englandanti glare and nano textured is different, nano texture is the same like paper display on Matepad 11 Papermate Edition, Anti glare just using regular non textured display.
As an artist who use iPad Pro daily , always excited to see what’s new and expectations on helping and improving art , animations and design work. Art Studio display like Wacom is the benchmark to beat. Hoping to see more large screen ipad , textures screen paper like , Apple Pencil pro with different nibs and others. I think you should hire an artist to review the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil .
I agree. I'm writing this with a Wacom Cintiq Pro 27 in front of me. I love my Ipad Pro M2. I'm likely upgrading. I'm curious if the nano etched screen can provide a similar "tooth" to that of the Cintiq. So Im awaiting the review of these new features from an a artist that is familar with Wacom's cintiq Pro 27 becuase while I love my iPad Pro M2 and Pencil 2.0... Wacom provides a far better drawing/zbrush sculpting experience due to the texture of the screen, the pen pressure sensor which does have some travel that makes it more pleasant to use than the rigid apple pencil tip. The customizable nibs are a big deal... as are buttons. The Pro Pen 3 is fantastic, has far more buttons and is more comfortable than any Apple Pencil. The touch button feature on the apple pencil is pretty bad IMO. Give us buttons. Anyways I look forward to getting an iPad Pro 13inch M4 with Pro Pencil but I cant order it until I get a few answers to the questions I have. We need Artists to review these devices. and not just ipad artists. I'm talking about serious, sit down workstation computer artists that live on Wacom Cintiqs.

I'd love to see an artist review the iPad. One of my biggest pet peeves from tech reviewers is they look at the iPad and go "this is basically just a shitty MacBook, what idiot would ever buy this?" As if they literally cannot comprehend that artists even exist, lol. It's like almost every tech youtuber completely glosses over the artist aspect.
My current iPad is almost 10 years old. I was waiting for this gen to come out before deciding which one I want to replace it with. Still probably won't get it till next year so I have time to watch all of the review videos.
Same here. My iPad pro is going on 7 years old, and I’ve been patiently waiting for the start of the next generation so I can buy another one at the start of its generation. I don’t think I’m going to wait though. I’m gonna dive in. I’ve been waiting long enough already, lol. 🤖
Since you’re working with Ridge, here are things that I want: A Ridge wallet with a soft surface. All of the hard surface versions clack against anything else that’s in my pocket, including keys or my phone. It would be nice if it had a leather cover, or a fake leather cover, or some kind of soft touch plastic that didn’t get dirty, anything other than metal or carbon fiber. it’s just too noisy. It would also be great if some of their products had compact flash, SD card, microSD card, storage in them. I currently have a wallet that I really like that I can store a CFast card in, which is great for me because when I’m done at work, I slipped the card to the wallet, and I know it’s safe. For keys, their little keyholder is cool, but I happen to have to have about 10 keys with me at all times, I’m using a metal panel keyholder that allows to be on either side, but I’ve had to manually chop off half of the head of the key to keep things compact. Would love to see a key that would allow me to get very slim versions of common keys that would allow double the keys that you could normally get into their compact keyholder. That way I could have my 10 keys all in a very compact container, and it would be great if that also had soft touch on the outside. Bonus if you could design these thinner keys with staggered fingernail hooks to make them easier to swing out.
he performance and the specs of the new iPads are indeed mind-blowing, but they seem to lack uniqueness other than just having more power. It's still an iPad. Really hoping that the WWDC brings some revolutionary changes to the iPad OS.
I'm hoping that someday apple makes a macbook ultimate or something that is essentially a macbook pro but the display is an ipad pro that can fold all the way back, allowing you to use it like either a tablet or a macbook. otherwise I'll just hold onto my m1 ipad pro forever
They will never do that. It's all about forcing you to buy a macbook. Apple customers are sheep and keep empowering Apple to screw you over. Their mobile devices are great. I have an iphone, but god damn. If they were held to the same standards as the PC market by their customers, you'd get all these things you want.
@@andyH_England AI will never compensate for the ability to install the applications YOU want and need, not just those that Apple in their infinite wisdom considers suitable for you. It will never be a real substitute for owning the device, it will just be a new guard in a fancy digital prison.
from my experience : 1. thickness is useless, as most of us will use a case 2. video editing is gimic in any TAB (be it ipad, android) if you are doing it professionally, eventually we will use PC or mac for real editing.
3. Apps can't access the file system, meaning they can't share files 4. Apps can't do much of anything in the background. Basically just notifications.
The thinness is extra useless, since this thing will bend if you even look at it funny. So if you travel with it at all, you are going to have to house it in an otterbox level enclosure.
adding a case to a reduced thickness ipad still reduces the overall thickness. I guess it could be nice in 10 years when I have any reason to buy a new ipad.
I never hold my ipad up in the air, but i use it a lot and have to charge while still using it a lot. Way more battery life would have been a BIG reason for me to upgrade from my m1 13 inch. But making it thinner and more powerful, i really couldn’t care less to upgrade

I’ll just stick to my 20 dollar textured screen protector instead!! 🤣🤣
Yes, a textured screen protector like the Rock Paper Pencil can work very well and has the advantage of being removable for those times when you want to see the full capability of the display.
What an insane missed opportunity for them to keep the iPad Pro the same thickness and finally remove that obnoxious camera bump, while also having a bigger battery 🤦♂️
If they wanted to go thin…..do it on the iPad AIR
Exactly. They really fumbled here...
Yep, there's absolutely no need to make these any thinner, I have the M1 Pro and it feels perfect, any smaller would feel too thin
I guess they prefer to surrender to the marketing slogan instead on real, actually useful improvements...
They really should make the iPad Air thinner instead of the pro ones…
I never thought of the camera bump but the bigger battery would have been a very welcome update. My M1 iPad have never really had that good of a battery and now it's pretty horrible. I have not seen a single person say "man these iPads are so thick, I need them thinner".
I still have my 2018 iPad Pro and it still does it’s job greatly! Consuming content, editing photos on Lightroom, it’s amazing. Battery is still pretty good and I use it almost daily

Best update imo is that the base iPad now starts at 349 instead of the ridiculous 449. That’s what is going to benefit most people.
I bought my iPad 9 two months after release for $329 directly from Apple. What’s new about this?

Ithought the lidar sensor was the smaller ultra wide 💀
They probably just don’t want to give you more and make it look expensive
That's the first thing I thought. I have a pretty chunky case and I don't want a thinner pro, I want a more powerful pro. I like that they make them super powerful because they last longer that way.
I like the approach of a thinner iPad. My Pro is really heavy and bulky with the Magic Keyboard attached to it all the time.
With as powerful as they’re making these processors, they can’t upgrade the battery. It’s the main reason people will need to upgrade these in ~4 years. Everything else is really future proof.

@@1slotmechyes it is a tablet. Got a problem?
Thats weaker then an iphone 15 💀
You simply couldn’t get away with hiding it behind storage if this was a desktop/laptop
Doubling that of the iPhone 15 Pro, which has 6GB of ram.
9 cores is a weird CPU core count

No Marques, it's not a complete spec bump, there is also spec loss. They removed the second camera (probably because of thickness), which could be used for creating spacial videos for Vision Pro. It's actually the first time they removed a feature from an iPad.

End Ipad OS and just make it the artists MacBook. That's my vote.
(Edit)
Valid point some people made: or a less restrictive Ipad OS.

This has been the single biggest issue with using these things in an actually productive way. I’d expect further changes in the next iPad OS around this which will FINALLY remove the great, stupid barrier of iPad productivity. Quite surprised Marques didn’t mention this at all.

@@meph2806what apps are you using that you’re feeling the lower performance? I’m just a casual user, so I have no idea what apps really stretch the legs of these things haha
I love the new era od Marques not being impressed with boring half-baked products, the fact that he won't sugarcoat these products should be the bare minimum we expect of review videos, but I can't wrap my head around some people being angry that he is actually reviewing these products.
As long as iPads have iPadOS, which let's face it is really just iOS they will never be a real Macbook replacement.
What about Affinity Designer? It has most of the features of Desktop Adobe Illustrator with the benefit of being on the iPad.

So what ? It’s still the thinnest so they’re right ? Right ?
Only some product escape this kind of reasoning unfortunately but at least the Apple lineup is starting to becomes super good with technological marvel for each category. Still hate the iPad since 2019 tho
At least with the tab s8 ultra that thing thermal throttles easily under load because of the thinness. Saying this from ownership. Having the M4 stuffed in a similar package will only spawn the same issues

My $160 phone from 2019 still works very well and I won't be upgrading anytime soon.
It better does
100-200$ for every update supported year is my metric

They mentioned iPad mini at the end, so I am holding out hope for a refresh later this year. That's all I want.
Hoping for a mini pro, or at least a mini air. Doesn't even need to be that *fast* but want them to actually shrink those *larger than the previous design* bezels. Want the ultimate, take it on vacation device, 5G/ebooks/movies/camera etc.
2 MKBHD vids in a day!
It’s Christmas 🤩
You love to see it!
Honestly maybe the first time in channel history.
I was just about to type this. Watched the new Google pixel phone review like 3 hours ago then boom I saw this. I was like what???????
@@GyvrcrdfutihhuyvthjvvjvjyvI slept after watching the last video now watching the new one first thing in the morning haha
The way they update iPads works for me because I usually only upgrade when I NEED to. I'm not really missing much from generation to generation, but when I get a new one, it's usually a lot better than what I've been using.
Yeah. This exactly.
@@daleycarter Still good to know how it compares to last year's, maybe you could get last year's at a cheaper price instead of this
@@zakariarakhrour9158 that is true, but that is not the TONE these reviewers are giving. They all sound “disgusted” lol
I think the point is, if you already own an iPad great, no need to buy another one as they're all perfectly fine, if you dont own an iPad this is a good buy that you know will last you 10 years
2:49 “what could possibly go wrong “
*Jerry Rig pops up! 🤣🤣🤣
Fr😂
“And as you can see with just one swing of this standard carpenter’s hammer the display is no longer working” 😂
Yeah if it has same design flaw as last iPad pro gonna have to baby it so u don't accidently press too hard in the middle and crack the entire thing!
Explain the joke please
@@AdRock jerryRigEverything “durability tests” every new piece of tech by trying to bend it. This thing is thin and might snap right in half haha
Exactly and on the contrary he is talking about ungodly expensive Magic Keyboard.although i find it expensive too..but 100bucks for this wallet no way
Or just buy a secrid miniwallet. Superior product for half the price with better functionality and card protection.
techbros watch and techbros will buy tho. It's all about getting money in the bag. I have never bought anything these youtubers peddle.
I remember back when the first iPad Pro came out it was “the ultimate PC replacement”
It’s 2024 and it just got a Magic Keyboard that truly simulates the Mac’s
Thank God for aftermarket.... Zagg makes some great products (keyboards) as well as logitech for the ipad pro. I've been rocking the home and function row of buttons for years.
What's a computer 😂
iOS still stops these things from replacing PCs. If they ran basically any other OS, it'd be a serious conversation.
The crazy thing about an iPad as a "PC replacement" is you aren't even the admin of your iPad. You can't even have multiple user accounts or install whatever app you want. How can it be a PC replacement when you have less privileges on it than you did on Windows 95?
@@petemiller2598 My parents never used PC anymore after they had iPad Pro. It IS a PC replacement for many people.
If you look at Samsung fans and how they hyped the new anti-glare display on the S24 Ultra, then you will accept that it is beneficial.
@@andyH_Englandanti glare and nano textured is different, nano texture is the same like paper display on Matepad 11 Papermate Edition, Anti glare just using regular non textured display.
It’ll just get worn off over time. Go with the regular glass and get a magnetically attached/removable matte screen protector.
@@DwindleFlip yup i'm still using the ipad pro 2018, still work great for daily drawing procreate but need more power for an animation design. Waiting for a review first, but probably just buy the new 13" ipad air as the pro maybe overkill. Curious on the nano screen.
Artist? Is that still a thing? Just joking.
@@g43654 haha i've got that "artist ? Is that still a thing " a lot lately. No worries ~ just doing what i do best 🫡😊
Just upgraded from a 2018 pro to the new one.
If you are in doubt don’t. The sound quality is also a lot thinner than the old one.
Since you’re working with Ridge, here are things that I want:
A Ridge wallet with a soft surface.
@berengerchristy6256 So the original surface book design basically?
Like most PC makers, AI is where they are going. The iPad will not run macOS, but AI will make it closer in ability to a desktop OS.
@@andyH_England AI will never compensate for the ability to install the applications YOU want and need, not just those that Apple in their infinite wisdom considers suitable for you. It will never be a real substitute for owning the device, it will just be a new guard in a fancy digital prison.
from my experience :
1. thickness is useless, as most of us will use a case
2. video editing is gimic in any TAB (be it ipad, android) if you are doing it professionally, eventually we will use PC or mac for real editing.
video editing is almost there. just need real versions of fcpx and davinci resolve instead of these baby versions or luma fusion to be more robust.
3. Apps can't access the file system, meaning they can't share files
4. Apps can't do much of anything in the background. Basically just notifications.
The thinness is extra useless, since this thing will bend if you even look at it funny. So if you travel with it at all, you are going to have to house it in an otterbox level enclosure.
I think the bigger batteries with the same thickness would have been more beneficial for most people
adding a case to a reduced thickness ipad still reduces the overall thickness.
Just the opposite for me. Love that thin form factor. Upgrading ASAP!!
