i can't believe apple changed their base ram from 8gb to 16gb as i was making this video lol
Your devices are listening to you and snitched to Tim Cook
They wanted to ruin the video for you 😂
Maybe you should have redone this video...
bonus point for apple ig
And I can't believe you opted to not update your video before sending it out to the public. Even a short addendum at the end would have been fine.
literally as of this week Apple’s latest laptops start at 16GB of RAM
and M2 and M3 macbook airs that they are still selling also start at 16 GB of ram now for the same price, which isnt bad.
but still dare to show up on 256GB storage
I mean they used to be 128 and for light office use 256 should be enough @@rohanldo

Brooo not this reference all over RUclips lol
Honestly though, I thought about it for a bit and that would be pretty good, Dave has a some dope wallpapers
@@simonvutov7575yeah I think marques did a good job responding to the situation, like how he used to be shady about sponsorships but changed for the better being upfront about them too
The app should just consist of a single teal wallpaper with that cutout of his face on it and have it be $500
That's just a solid teal
dave forgot to publish this 2 days ago. welcome back !
Lol, I was just about to say the same thing!
That’s why the MacBook Air ram comment is not correct anymore lol
At least he was correct about it being the last time Dey do that.. 😅
sorry guys Im out of the world, what happened?
@@PixelHunter0505didn't watch the video yet. He probably made a remark about ram on MacBook air. Yet apple announced they gonna release mb air with 16gb ram. Which is kinda weird
Battery life is a game changer. Treating your laptop like you treat your phone is a dream come true. I hate plugging and unplugging the power cord just to maintain my laptop's battery health.
I have the OG base M1 Air from 2020. Literally the best electronics purchase I’ve ever made. $900 and 4 years later still runs like new. Superb build quality, snappy, and still better battery life and standby than most other laptops out there.
Amazing.
I have had it and sold for 400$ because that's the price of an ultra limited computer, with limited ports, limited memory, not future-proof RAM. I would not recommend it even for 400$ nowadays, STAY AWAY
Such an overrated argument! I did buy an i5 HP Gaming Pc in 2019 for about 950$, 16gb, 512gb SSD, GTX1650, it still works perfectly.
Same running a Lenovo with GTX 1650
@lores996 256gb of storage must be a crime
I bought a used M1 MBP for $450. Also have a M1 Mac mini. I see no reason to upgrade because the M1 has never been slow
Smartphone market saturated, laptop market saturated. Tech companies will have tough time in future.
they'll sell us more subcriptions
The AI based systems mean that the opposite will happen, all old tech with soldered on RAM and processors will be rendered obsolete by the power jump needed to run AI at full speed in a year or so.
Nothing some layoffs wont fix

already outdated the second it dropped, kinda surprised he even released it since so much info is just not accurate anymore
well only one part is outdated. rest is fine. but i dont know about that m1 laptop for
@AZisk had his video get outdated right as the upload completed, and right around the time you got to the end of the playtime of the video. It was wild.

And start slowing down their 8gb devices.
@@Akash-l9f6o Good. Their target audience will have already switched by then and the ones that don't fit in will be forced to let go. Perfect for any type of maintenance request an actual user might have.
Also Apple just dropped the M4 MBPs
That’s usually Linus’s job to drop stuff
Turns out 8gb of RAM was not enough after all...
They still have them on Amazon, probably tens of thousands, so if you are lucky, you might get one for a BIG discount. Although at $999, the M3 MB Air 16GB is of relative value.
@@andyH_England8 GB of RAM soldered never was enough for multi tasking. Chrome plus Windows or macOS use 8 GB as an appetizer. It doesn't work beyond one program.
@@cameronbosch1213 on my work laptop I use office and maybe four browser tabs and never run out of RAM. I would say for people like me 8gb is more than enough but as you say anyone with multiple tabs will soon slow down their browser unless they have settings changed to pause tabs when not in use.
I bought a 16-inch Macbook Pro M1, 64 GB with 1TB SSD used for $1500 USD (after tax) earlier this year. It does everything I need. This would be $4000+ new. There are some incrediblely priced Macs.
The convenient truth: With an education discount and $899, you can now get a brand new M2 Air MacBook with 16GB memory and 256GB storage...
256GB 😂😂😂😂😂 only the OS occupies tons of GBs, it's a stoopid choice to buy a pc with such a limited memory
@@lores996 memory is unlimited tho
You NAILED it on this video. I can't believe how I have landed on a MacBook Air (M2) as my primary laptop at home now, but it was literally the bang for the buck and battery life! How did this happen?
I am excited for purchasing laptops in another 12 months. We will start to see the benefits of these new technologies becoming more affordable (hopefully) and more supported (ARM).
Hi, Could you answer a few questions please?
How do you think the M2 MBA will hold up in the future if I buy now?
And which is better to buy if, let’s say I will be buying 6 months later, M2 MBA or M3 MBA?
Is 256 GB enough or do I have to go for 512 GB? (I don’t want to spend too much)
And may I know why you will be buying another laptop in a year? How long should I expect to use a macbook?
Thanks in advance!
@@jsabhirajget an M3 with 512GB, it's the minimum necessary these days. If you can't afford it, buy a recent Windows laptop and you'll get more bang for the buck for sure 👍😊
Here before dave pins his comment about the update on Apple M4 and the RAM situation
Regarding older generation laptops, I guess it also depends on what deals you can find. I bought a re-sealed Vivobook 15X OLED with 12500h for 400$. And it still has upgradable ram and storage. For a thin and light with 2 years warranty I think it’s pretty fine so I don’t regret it.
Yes, that is a bargain. Well done. In a deal, I saw £600 for the Core Ultra 1 for a similar machine and didn't press the buy now, and they were sold out!
12th gen was the last good generation, good choice
@@andyH_England seen any good deals lately in the UK Andy?
@@Danny-sn7nl there are some good 12 and 13 gen Asus deals out there. Around £500 for 12 gen with 16 GB/1TB Non-OLED, and about £700 for 13 gen i5 OLED 2.8K.
5:05 yesterday Apple hosted a MacBook Pro event where they announced all base model Macs in the lineup will now ship with 16gb of ram (including the m2 & m3 MacBook Airs)
Have to believe this was recorded early in the week because he just said MacBook Air is 8GB when that just changed and now all Airs are 16GB as of yesterday.
The telltale sign is at 1:17 having footage from last nights World Series game lol
I have zero desire to buy a new laptop. Between Win11's upcoming Recall, and not actually being able to use these new wunderchips to game a quarter of my games, I'll hang onto my year old Lenovo Legion.
Why don't you try Linux? It lacks Recall and doesn't have spyware and adware baked into the OS like Windows 11 and isn't Windows Vista 2.0 like macOS is.
I've been using Linux for about the amount of time Windows 11 was out as my only OS, and unless you need something Windows exclusive, it's really good.
@@cameronbosch1213 I've been thinking about going Linux for the last couple of months. A local mom & pop PC repair shop is a big Linux supporter so I'm thinking about using my 2017 Razer Blade Pro to dip my toe into that pool and use them as my tech support, lol.
just switch to windows 10 ltsc with mass gravel. You'll have updates until 2032

I bought my 8GB M1 MBA 4 years ago and i'm totally fine with it. I've bought it for 999€ discounted from 1299€ a few months after release and - games a part - is holding up REALLY well. It honestly feels like it's a 2024 device. Used basically everyday for productivity, gaming, casual use and i still have "all day battery life" and performance is honestly more than enough for what i do. Now i even get apple intelligence, which imo is a pretty big update; not quite groundbreaking but almost there.
At first I thought you just cropped closer to you for novelty with this new shot but no, you must have an other camera above the regular one with a longer focal length because we see more of the background. It’s hard to tell looking at your eyes. Nicely done.
Apple doesn’t sell 8gb ram M2 and M3 MacBook Air’s any more. The base is now 16gb ram for the same price.
This guy is literally last weeks’ news.
@@graxxorwhat bugs me the most is that this video was edited as of last night because at 1:17 there’s footage from last nights World Series game lol
As someone who games on their laptop, I feel like the conclusion in this video didn’t really do much for me. It felt like it needed an asterisk of if you do anything other than wanting to play games, then go with a MacBook. As for the laptop market on the windows side, The mobile battery life argument has always been an interesting one to me because while having a long battery life is awesome, I’ve rarely ran into a situation where I needed to be untethered from an outlet for more than 3-5 hours of work. Documents or otherwise. Primarily because my primary use for my laptop is gaming and being unplugged on any system is a bit of a meme performance wise. I don’t know if you ever tried to play Path of Exile on a MacBook but it used to kill my M1 Max in around 3 hours unplugged
I bought a zenbook 14x 2023 in preparation for college, just to wait a few months later when all this dropped 😭😭😭
iGPU's have been one of the most interesting developments over the past few years; you have access to a lot of different gaming options (including modern games at lower settings) without a GPU now whereas in the bad old days of Intel GMA you'd be lucky to run Aero effects in Windows Vista.
16GB RAM is now standard on all base spec Macs
One doesn't need to spend much on a laptop. Early this year, i got a 13th gen Intel i3 ThinkPad 16" with extra ram slot and SSD slot.. and I'm an AI Researcher who runs many models locally. Just upgraded RAM to 32gb. More the better.
Bought a 12th Gen Asus laptop. It was sub $800 with a 17.3 inch display. Integrated graphics, I thought, was going to be the bottleneck, but nope. The thing can game, without being advertised as a gaming machine. Slim, quiet, powerful and long-lasting on batteries. If things couple of generations are this good, then youtube reviewers should start looking for a new job, because it honestly feels irrelevant, what you get, because even the bottom of the barrel options are excellent. Go up to gaming level above $1500 and you're golden! Just pick the keyboard you like and the ports you need. Don't forget how much laptops used to cost. In the 90's a 133MHz Pentium was $4k (not inflation adjusted). Having a sub $1k machine that can game and that is whisper quiet under regular tasks is a miracle. Main downside is that things tend to lean towards non-upradable, non-fixable. That sucks, but that's what companies figured they need, to keep making money. If they make laptops that run forever, who's going to upgrade?
You just said out loud what I've been saying to my PC friends who for years have been screaming I was buying overpriced stuff, namely that if I wanted a PC as good as my MBP it'd cost me the same. You get what you pay for.
amazing. you are so customer oriented! bravo!
This is gonna age well.
what do you mean we're in a great spot for laptops right now?
1. We have Nvidia's deceptive naming which results in outrageous prices at high end.
2. Intel and AMD have undervolting disabled on most of their laptop CPUs
3. Energy-efficient chips which give great battery life like Ryzen H and HS are almost unavailable anymore in high-end laptops with 80 and 90 class GPUs.
4. AMD GPUs are almost non-existent in gaming laptops at this point
5. More and more manufacturers solder their RAM into their laptops.
the lack of AMD gpu is an AMD issue. they never made anything better than 7700, and its at best on par with a 3060, so their top end just doesnt exist.
@@bradhaines3142 Not true. Their top end laptop GPU was mostly on par with 3080m(8GB) on average, or between 3070m and 3080m. Not sure where you got 3060 result from, but I've seen direct comparisons.
I must be mistaken, you said the new chips can't be undervolted??? That's crazy, like why?
A great spot doesn’t mean perfect spot…. Laptop options now are so much better than the past. And I don’t think most consumer understand what you pointed out here.
@@bonifacelukosi9580 ask Intel and AMD. Intel HX and HK can be undervolted, but
1. They HX consume a lot of power at idle as it's a desktop chip and HK costs too much
2. In some laptops even these can't be undervolted if a laptop manufacturer locked it. Pretty much all Intel's laptop CPUs used to be undervoltable via a simple software no matter what laptop they are installed in during gens 4-9.
Windows is a bloated sub-par mess which makes the usage of laptops inconsistent and needs to be completely rewritten for an energy efficient future 🔋
Imagine a lightweight WM on Linux on one of these laptops...
Extremely valuable and incredibly helpful, thank you! 💪🏽
Completely agree. Apple's M chips are a game changer, and with a MacBook you always get great build quality, great speakers, great trackpad, great keyboard, great battery life, great thermals... All the things that actually matter on a laptop.
Walmart is selling new M1 MacBook Airs for $649. From a hardware perspective there simply is no better deal. MacOS is less of a home run. It's polished and includes a lot of useful software, but man, Mac keyboard shortcuts and window management are sometimes really frustrating.
Still using my 2015 macbook air that i got in November 2022 with not a lot of problems. Overheating is a pain, but that's it
Wow that is seriously outdated. Why get such an old laptop?
@disarchitected I didn't have a mac i could use to learn mac os. And the M series macbooks were (and still are) out of my budget
M1 Airs are new $700 at Walmart. Used can be found for $400-$500 on eBay or local listings
Some chapters would have been nice. Not saying the video was bad, it's wonderful, sometimes I'm more curious about a specific part of the video. Thanks!
The M1 MBA has rattled the laptop market in India.
Never before has been an Apple device so accessible and so bang-for-buck for the average buyer.
About the Windows battery drain issue when in Standby- Microsoft actually pushed a fix for this in the latest preview update for Windows 11, so in a few weeks from now this might finally be addressed for good
we're gonna reach a point where the desktop consumer and laptop consumer chips are going to be the same chips for windows laptops. If you need any more power you're better off getting a server chip. there's this one saying that some developers believe, where everything will be cloud based, however, i'm starting to feel like we're getting to a point you don't even need the cloud anymore unless you're doing some intensive gpu computations (AI, modeling or simulations) or need to use a distributive system for better latency between clients in a large area. i am glad we're getting so much better efficiency, i remember the days my gaming laptop could barely go 1 hour off the wall before having to plug it back on.
Dave seems to be abused by all these laptop manufacturers and is so happy that these brands did something they should have done many years ago
I think apple removed 8gb variants yesterday
If he was sitting on this he must have just put in that streaming highlights clip of the Dodgers winning last night.

Your new camera setup is very eye pleasing
Thaank you dave. This enlighten me up. 👏🏼👏🏼
That aged like milk in the sun.
Dave always keeps it real without trying to be pro apple or pro windows
What do you think of the high-end performance of the M4 MacBook Pros? It's insane that the performance improvement from the M3 to M4 is 50% and the improvement from M1 to M4 at 100%. I can't even use all of the CPU power of the M1 Pro and have no reason to upgrade. The 24 hour battery life is tempting. I was considering a Lunar Lake laptop as I have two programs that I need on Windows but they are doing a native port to Apple Silicon so I can wait for that (will probably take a year).
Next year's Black Friday sales will be lit.
The M1 MacBook Air was my gateway drug into the Apple ecosystem. I am still using it for everything including video editing and I have no intention of upgrading. The M1 MacBook Air was and still is amazing!
You can digitally de-age Dave by switching from 4k to 720p.
problem with tech is that everything inflates so much
M1 being the value champ in this market is remarkable. If gaming was not part of my usecase it would be the default choice.
The 8/256 skew will serve regular users just fine.
With the 16GB base memory update for M2/3/4, the next major sale will see them selling like hotcakes!
bro published the right video at the wrong time, just missed the apple event by 2 days!
What’s worse is that there’s footage added from last nights World Series game at 1:17 but no mention of Apple’s RAM update lol
@semperfitygaming5619 I mean he did mention it in the comments, but he should've mentioned M4 too, or updated it in the video directly yeah
I discovered at the beginning of the year that I dont need a laptop. Its geeat in theory but the time i spend computing away from my desk or job is 0. So gaming PC made perfect sense. Computer + Games. I can remote into my computer if i really need to access it while on the go
If I don't need games, a MacBook will save money in electricity costs.
@Tombstonecross maybe, depends. You probably don't need a powerful computer if you don't game so you could get a cheap mini with a weak processor.
@@terrencemoore8739 There are so many jobs where you need a capable CPU, working with large datasets, virtualization, container orchestration, 3d modelling or editing, music production, I'd say that it's most jobs that require a pc that aren't just boring email jobs.. there's a million counterarguments like you can get a minipc with a high-end portable CPU, my point is that there are many edge cases, you might be aware, this is more of a comment for people who are undecided or are just new to hardware requirements, not trying to start anything. Also if you don't have a beefy GPU or a GPU at all, electricity costs are almost negligable, specially if it's for work. @Tombstonecross .
Hey Dave, what’s that chair? Love the color and design.
Dave hands down wins tech youtuber 'Best Hair' category. But yeah, laptops still have some way to go I guess soon or later we will get 24 hour battery life devices and moderate performance and almost 0% energy loss on sleep/standby.
Funny thing is that I’ve been sitting with my MBP M1 Pro debating whether or not I should trade to get a M4 Pro.
But this thing has not slowed down yet. I might wait until my trade value goes down to the $200s to upgrade 😂😂
The part about Macbook Air coming with 8 GB didn't age well :D
But had time to add footage from last nights world series game at 1:17 lol
These new windows laptops are basically what m1 was when it first came out. Things should balance out as new versions of these windows machines come out with likely incremental updates like m2 and m3.

I had bought a 2021 Zephyrus G14 and I have to say it was probably the best decision I'd made.. I got it and immediately upgraded the RAM to 16 GB.. The total cost was 82,000 Rupees or roughly 1360 Canadian Dollars.. But now it's been close to 3 years and it feels like I can't upgrade from this without spending a significant (almost double) chunk of money.. Everything in India (tech related) is stupidly expensive now.. My phone which I bought 2 years ago cost me about 280 Canadian Dollars.. But now if I want to switch to a similarly speced phone, I'll have to shell out close to 350.. Let alone upgrade it.. Be it expandable memory slots on phones or RAM and SSDs being soldered on laptops, everything seems to be oriented towards the customer having to buy the higher variant of the same device just to have some longevity.. Where are we heading? Am I missing something? Sorry for sounding so negative but it's the fact..
Everyone saying this was recorded a week ago but there is literally a clip of last nights world series at 1:14
Oh good eye for detail! Game 5 that too
This means he's out of loop for some reason. I knew for some reason this was gonna happen even before Apple announced it.
Yeah great catch I almost missed that. Not so much it was recorded before the Apple Event, just not in the loop. That’s a big difference
That's B-roll, which very likely was recorded separately from the video of him reading the script. So it could still easily be that the script was recorded before yesterday's announcement.
I am personally using an M1 Pro Mac and it’s still STILL phenomenal and love it!
Probably best to hang on to your current device, wait a year or two, then buy a 2024 model refurbished
Perfectly put...Never felt more agreed to a youtube video

I use a old ASUS laptop with 960m in it, and Hitman 3 at 1080P medium is like 25fps, and a laptop now without a dedicated GPU can run it at 81fps is crazy!!!
Don't worry Dave, we'll wait a year or two for these :)
thanks! I was just thinking about buying and old 13gen intel... so is nice to hear that I should better wait or stretch my budget
I was really excited for Lunar lake but 1400+$ for a laptop with no dedicated GPU is crazy.
the 12450HX with 4060 ain't bad tho, the price is really cheeky, but for price is the new mac mini worth it?

I’m still using my 2015 MBP. Bought it for graphic design and advertising work back in school since everything was Mac based. Now since I’m not even in the field, I haven’t had any reason to buy a new machine. I’ll upgrade next year to a 14in MBP and probably keep that for 10 years too 😂
Went with an Asus Zenbook S16 and love it. The onboard GPU is good enough and even with gaming it is very quiet.
I will never forgive my old laptop for dying right before the laptop landscape started to get interesting
Dave has mastered the art of bad timing
Latest Macbook pros M4 is of next level. I will be getting one .
I've been saying this for a long time, if you want a value-for-money "ultrabook" get an entry level Apple Silicon macbook, people think I'm joking. Apple has other stuff that is beyond ridiculously priced but when it comes to this category they win.
I have been looking for an 800€ laptop for the past 2 weeks and really can't find anything that I would like to buy. I wish that any of the new chips would have a lower tier version. I need the laptop quite soon so I guess I'll just hope to find something cheap on the used market I guess
If you need windows there plenty at that price. If you’re ok with a Mac they’re discounted rn at Best Buy down to $800 and I think Adorama also has sales. But really buying used will be the best price to performance, and that depends on your area.
+1 for the problems of buying. Everything from 500 - 1000 seems to be either utter garbage or just "it's ok.. but I still feel like I'm being ripped off..."
hello! just wanted to point out that Apple bumped the starting memory on all the M2/M3 MacBook Airs to 16GB. it's completely understandable if you already exported that video before yesterday ;)
