Ok so, 8 candies on that list are Icelandic, so 14 candies that weren’t, 13 were guessed correctly, 6 of them were actually Icelandic, so 2 Icelandic candies he didn’t identify correctly, Jólaköttur and Stjörnurúlla (1st and 5th candies). The liquorice straw is usually paired with Appelsín, a local orange soda (at Christmas Appelsín is also traditionally blended together with Malt for a blend that is pretty popular here at Christmas time)
@@tatersoup The Icelandic candies were the first one, Jólaköttur (a chocolate covered wafer with caramel and balls of puffed rice). The third one, Trítlar (fruit-flavoured gummies). The fifth one, Stjörnurúlla (a Marsipan Liquorish roll). The twelfth one, Súper Sett (Chocolate covered liquorice bits, a derivetive of a candy called Eitt Sett where it was a seperate bar of chocolate and a small plate of liquorice). The Thirdteenth one, Ópal (flavoured pastilles, usually with some sort of liquorice flavour and some others blended in as well, though never in the same pastille, in this case he got a package with Liquorice and Lemon, the yellow pastilles being the Lemon-flavoured ones). The Fifteenth one, Djöflar (Filled Liquorice, no idea what the filling is unfortunately, but my best guess would be some sort of marsipan, and covered with Salmiak). The Seventeenth one, Risa Þristur (Chocolate covered caramel with Liquorice). And lastly the 21st, Lakkrísrör (A liquorice straw).
The Nordics and Europe in general share a lot of their candies among each other, hence why it can be difficult to find what's authentic from that certain country. im icelandic, and i can tell you Þristur (pronounced Thristur ; ''Þ'' makes a TH sound) is one of the most beloved icelandic candy. my friends from abroad always ask me to bring Þristur with me when i visit. Highly recommend trying !
So fun fact: there is a popular flavor combination in a lot of Scandinavian countries (which btw is more popularly associated with Finland,) called Salmiakki which consists of licorice, salt, and ammonium chloride. It kinda tastes like you ate a handful of black licorice and salt right before cleaning a not-well-ventilated room with a lot of bleach
the "Falling scream" added in anytime something falls or is thrown in these videos. I swear that's my favorite gag and sound effect. Gets me every time
It would be amazing to see Mark try candy from Portugal but actually have Lixian there in person to see his reactions and explain some stuff. That'll be amazing! Or at least have Lixian send stuff over with small notes on them so Mark isn't THAT confused haha
@aazhie Yeah especially because Lixian doesn't do a whole lot that show off who he really is, so it'll be very nice to see more of him in videos like that
Can I just say. I know he’s reviewing candy but man I can’t get past the video quality on this. It’s so crisp and the warm lighting makes it very pretty
Mark has a very relatable habit of saying something confidently and then completely contradicting himself without ever breaking the flow of the conversation.
Ammonium Chloride is an odorless, white powder. Solid Ammonium Chloride is used to make dry batteries and Ammonia compounds, as a soldering flux, a pickling agent in Zinc coating and tinning, and a fertilizer. Ammonium Chloride fume, a finely divided particle dispersed in air, is produced in galvanizing operations.
The "nipples" are actually mushrooms, chanterelle to be exact. And they are Swedish. The hockey pulver is also Swedish. The skole kridt is most likely Danish, judging by the spelling. To tell if something is Icelandic, look at the letters. If there's a lot of ´ ` things on the letters it's probably Icelandic.
Hey 👋 I lived in Iceland for 4 years before moving out a few months ago so I can tell you a little more about these candies. The Jólaköttur candy bar (based on the Icelandic Christmas cat folktales) is very authentic and you can only find it during the holiday season. The Swedish one, while not Icelandic is still very popular in Iceland. The Trítlar ones are also very authentic and popular. In the summertime they often release a summer edition. Stjörnurúlla (meaning star roll) is also popular, while not the best licorice, it is quite traditional. Turkish Peber: super popular in Nordic countries but it’s from a Finnish company. Anyway that’s pretty much it for the popular ones. Also, I’m pretty sure he went to Hagkaup to get these.
I'm convinced it's because none of them have been involved in any heinous situations like other major youtubers have. Minding your business saves a lot of stress
I love how Mark sometimes gets into deep analyzing a candy and remembering what he saw in the museum and connecting dots and whatnot to decide whether it's icelandic or not, while other times he's just like "nah it ain't icelandic because no"
As a Dane who has never been to Iceland (yet), I can't say if some of these are specifically from there, but as a Scandinavian I could recognize almost all of these. It is so funny to see Mark react to candy from my childhood! When he ate the liquorice/raspberry hard candy I _immedaetely_ thought of the ones with chocolate/peppermint, and was very happy he tried those as well. Those were a stable in my grandma's house. Also the "nipples" are supposed to be marshmallow mushrooms, and I could easily devour a whole bag of them! They come in pink and brown. Also pretty sure the Opal candy is similar to our Gajol, and you're supposed to suck on them, not chew them 😂 Tyrkisk Peber means Turkish Pepper, and the center has liquorice powder. They are more black pepper "spicy" than chili hot. But yeah, we really like our sweet and salty liquorice, weird chocolate and hard candy. Also anything MAOAM rocks! Bülow is a Danish brand, and they make _amazing_ but expensive chocolate-coated and normal liquorice.
15:04 / 15:05 / 15:13 The Tyrkisk Peber Hard Candy 🍬 is actually not from Iceland 🇮🇸🐏🌋🧊🏝️ at all and not from Finland 🇫🇮🦌🧊 either at all, but The Tyrkisk Peber Hard Candy 🍬 is actually original from Salling, Jutland, Denmark 🇩🇰🦢👑 since 1977, by the way dude buddy bro my friend 😊😊😊😊🎉🎉😊😊😊😃😃😁😄😄😎😎🤜🏻🤛🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🍬🍬🍬🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🦢👑🍺🍺🍺🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
With Tyrkisk Peber/Turkish Pepper, I was just Waiting for Mark to bite onto it. I've had them before, they're good (I prefer the sweeter ones though, you know, orange, blue, etc.) but if my friend's expression and statement of "How on earth can you eat that???" towards me just casually eating soft licorice tells me anything? It was gonna be obvious Mark would hate the salmiakki powder inside. It's a treat Nordics love, and very few others enjoy lol
A lot of times, whenever I “watch” RUclips videos, I turn autoplay on and use it as background noise for something else. I have no idea why, but RUclips recommendations ALWAYS plays this exact video at least once or twice a month. For some reason, I can’t bring myself to choose a different video, and I enjoy it more every time. I swear Mark used some sort of hypnosis or subliminal message in that little slide whistle jingle.
Hearing Amy in a video behind the camera is like going to visit an old friend that you haven't seen in a while but you don't actually do much but chill for a while and then leave. I should probably go outside more.
It is indeed the Swedish flag, the hard raspberry/licorice candies from the bag is from Sweden. From Gränna a town which is famous for it's candy canes and candy. The "nipples" are mushrooms, and made in Sweden, so is the Hockey Pulver. It contains Salmiak, which is that unidentifyable salty flavour... The Tyrkisk Peber is from Finland.
As a Swede I can confirm. My mom loves raspberry licorice and I like the mushrooms. But I don't know my own country because I don't know anything about a town called Gränna lol
@@zetsuki4207 Nowadays Finnish Fazer, fazer also has tons of chocolate and other sweets. Personally i don't like normal milk chocolate from fazer, but dark chocolate and some combo flavours are good.
My best friend is icelandic and we watched this together. Before the video started he said "All our candy is just chocolate and licorice". He was going "yep" at the salty licorice candy. I insisted that I try it. He was also saying "I swear to God if he says the peppermint isn't icelandic I'm going to lose it" Mark's next words were "I don't think this is icelandic" and the response was "I'M LOSING IT". Followed soon by cheering when Mark put it on the Iceland side.
@@spinningpeanuti guess the Danes and Icelandic share what type of candy we like. Could relate to a lot of the stuff in the video as well 😅 Us Nordic folks are just crazy with all the liquorice. Especially the "salt powder" is something i have never seen people outside Nordic countries like 😂

As a man from Sweden and a candy aficionado I can tell you that the hockey puck named "supersalt hockey pulver" is swedish and pretty much sums up half of the candy experience in Sweden. It's licorice/salted licorice and the other half is an excessively broad collection of outrageously sweet candy that takes many shapes and forms. A big portion of it is chocolate and different types of jelly candy.
For anyone who might be interested, Mark's favorite was "Lakrids by Bülow," which is actually from Denmark, and is a high-quality chocolate-covered licorice. I highly recommend it, even if you don't like licorice (like me).
I dunno why but something about these videos where Markiplier just sits in-front of a camera taste-testing different stuff just hits different and I really love 'em. Hope more of these continue to come out alongside the usual content! Love ya Mark.
@@Porter_323nope salmiaki is literally salted licorice and if your talking about the puck one you're meant to dip licorice into it kinda like a fun dip

Greetings from Finland! Fazer's Tyrkisk Peber is from here. It's called ''Turkinpippuri'' in Finnish :) it's very popular candy here and I personally love them! They have salty liquorice powder (which is made from ammonium chloride) on the inside.

I love the whistle tune to introduce the new candy! And I love Amy’s commentary! We need more Amy appearances and commentary (if she’s comfortable with it) 💙

The liquorice straw is usually paired with Appelsín, a local orange soda (at Christmas Appelsín is also traditionally blended together with Malt for a blend that is pretty popular here at Christmas time)
I was thinking, it would be nice to actually find out what the flavors are and which were actually Icelandic.
I came here looking for an Icelandic person to tell us the truth behind the candies and how well Mark did with it. Why are they so salty?
I'm sorry, APPELsin is the name of an orange soda?
@@SilverScreenTimeMachine Appelsin is the Danish word for an orange. Literally, it's a Chinese apple.

It tastes really good.

Also, I’m pretty sure he went to Hagkaup to get these.
potentially Hagkaup but also potentially be Vínberið (candy store) on Laugavegur 43
Turkish Peber was invented in Denmark but later sold to a Finnish company

Yes! Captain Magnum could make a return!
Mark definitely woke up someone's ancestors with these pronunciations.
It's okay, I love hearing people butcher the language so it made my day
As an Icelandic person, I can confirm that most English speaking people have a hard time with pronouncing these words.
For example: Jólaköttur is pronounced “yo-lah-cutter”.

For some reason, I can’t bring myself to choose a different video, and I enjoy it more every time. I swear Mark used some sort of hypnosis or subliminal message in that little slide whistle jingle.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the little candy jingle that Mark made from an actual piece of candy?! It’s surprisingly catchy and good!
