I’m new to fishing but I went on my first jigging trip today for some perch and I caught 4
Well done mate! Fishing isn’t easy you’ve done really well to pick up a few
I’m starting to get into fishing the same way as you was but I went to a good spot yesterday using worms and a float and I caught nothing at all any suggestions?
e@@CjT-ip4cx maybe the fish just weren't there or you were using the wrong depth
@@CjT-ip4cx instead of worms use maggots and hook to nylon that u can buy at any tackle shop
MAN! Lucky you 🎉
I’ve grown up lure and spinner fishing for bass, trout, pike and perch in Canada! However I haven’t been that many times in England until this year! I even caught a 2lb13oz perch yesterday and I had the little fight on film!
Sounds like a great fish mate, bigger than i've ever had! I've got some cousins over in Vancouver, hoping to make it out there one day. Beautiful part of the world!
@@adventurefishinguk my PB is 3lb10oz which shall be tough too beat! Believe me Canada is beautiful all year round and they have some quality fishing throughout the whole country
Great video again! I had a few hours this morning pretty much same results as you in the later end of this video I had 11x small perch! Great day!
Sounds good man! I've not been out perch fishing for a while I need to get back at it

Just started perch fishing. Got myself a light set up to help feel for those bites. 😊
Light set ups are the way forward in my opinion! Hope you catch a few 🤞
Started carp fishing about a month ago, moved over to floats and jigs on the canal, caught way more fish and it's a lot more enjoyable in the hot weather. Definitely more for me
I couldn't agree more!
Carp fishing is great but only when your determined. You can match fish for carp if you enjoy having loads out in a session but tbh I think that cruel due to the fact there mouths get very damaged but at the end of the day your fishing and that's all that matters
Pole Fished f1s for the last decade and went back to rod, reel, float and maggots on a new venue and caught all babies but two perch nevertheless and sort of fired up the old child in me that loves the ease and unexpectedness, found an old but good 6ft split cane rod so using that for lure fishing perch next absolutely cant wait
I think you'll love lure fishing! Thanks for watching
@@adventurefishinguk oh aye, i do 😂 had a ball for the last few times now
We're in the U.P. in Michigan. Some of the best perch fishing. They respawn very quickly!
I’d love to come over there and fish for them one day
Thanks for watching!
A good thing that worked for me was a similar jighead, and this pink tube with long white endings, caught 3 within an hour to two hours. Just slowly drag it on the bottom.
Yeah that sounds good especially for this time of year!
Float and earthworm is great too.
It definitely is! Artificial is more fun in my opinion 👍
Top fishing man!!! 🎣👌 I love fishing on canals, they hold some big Perch and Pike 💯
Thanks mate! I love fishing on canals too, yet to catch a big perch from one though

I caught one last year over 3lb, I was so chuffed.

Thanks mate! Hope you enjoy your rod, I’ve not used the predator rod yet much waiting until July. Been using the fish rig 180 almost daily though now and I’m loving it!
They have spikes on the gill covers too, I like to put my thumb and finger over those and the palm of my hand on the dorsal ones, they can flick and get you if not
Yeah they've got me a few times!

Thinking of getting myself a light rod for perch. Currently have a rod 15-45g so assume to heavy
Thanks mate! You’d probably be okay to go give it a go, a lighter rod would definitely be better sport though and you’d feel the bites a lot easier! Plus further on the cast 👍
Perch are so god damn fun man
got my first perch today thanks to you

@@adventurefishinguk thankyou so much ❤️
It used to be that easy to catch them on my section of the L&L canal last year. Now they are few and far between. You'll walk miles and waste a full day for 3 or 4 small ones. It's like they've all gone, very strange.
Thats a shame mate, over the past few years I've found perch fishing to be quite volatile. Fortunately I had quite a good summer catching them in the lakes! Thanks for the comment and I hope you enjoyed the video 👍
Just found this channel! Subscribed!!
Thanks David I really appreciate that!
Good video! But if you are in the lake where the water is 2-4m deep, should you use the same method?
I would if it was that deep right from the shore/drop offs. If it's a gentle slope then i'd probably use another method!
Can you catch pike on a light setup? And can I use a clip instead of making knot. I also use 12lb braid
12lb is too light to target pike mate! You can use a clip but you need a wire trace too
You are urban fishing for Perch, so plenty of bridges and structures exist. What should someone look for if they live rurally and have a canal but no bridges or structures? I know the video is two years old but still an interesting question.
Look for things like overhanging trees, big bushes, lilly pads, anything for the fish to hide under or around really!
Hey! Thanks for the tips. Been getting into perch fishing recently with my friend and just ordered my own jigs and lures. What areas along the lancaster canal would you recommend for perch fishing?
No problem! Anywhere with boats overhanging trees and features 👍 Thanks for watching
Those are some beautiful fish!
Thanks mate!
I love perch, one of my favourite foods and so pretty
They are an amazing fish to look at! Not so sure about to eat, I’ve never tried one
I’ve found the big perch are in shoals of abt five but a few times I’ve seen a shoal of 15 fish over at least a pound and a half
I'd love to see a shoal like that, I dont get many big perch unfortunately
My local this had they love a good worm too haha
They certainly do!
Great videos, have enjoyed checking out this part of canal last few days - no fish yet tho 🤞🏼
Plenty under all 3 bridges on the stretch, getting them to bite is a different story though! A big one lives under the first bridge, you’ll have to let me know if you get it
Where do you purchase your micro jigs thanks
Great video mate! A brilliant rod!
Thanks mate, couldn’t agree more! Best telescopic I’ve ever used
That looks like the Leeds Liverpool Canal near Barmouth Way bridge.
really informative vid this. I've watched a load of canal perch vids and this is one of the best. subscribed.
Thanks for subscribing mate I really appreciate it!
Great video mate! Thanks
Thanks for watching mate and i'm glad you liked it!
Hi sir, I am a beginner. Can I ask you a question? Can you tell me how to choose the jighead weight?
Im fishing for 1 year and I almost never catch something does anyone have tips for fishing in the garda lake in Italy?
Try new locations! thanks for watching 👍
yes have lock
Another great video mate thanks👍
Thanks for watching I hope it helped!
UK perch are slightly different than across the big pond . Our perch are smaller and more green/yellow with less orange . Many people here see perch as a pesky bait taker
Yeah I’ve seen those you have. Maybe they would be more highly prized if you didn’t have bass, unfortunately we don’t!
awesome pal subbed and liked .....tight lines top video !!!
Mate really good tutorial! Love the look of those jig heads! Never used them myself!!
Thank you! Thought I’d go for them because I’ve found perch go crazy for spinners with a flash of red, seems to be transferable to jigs too!
Do you not recommend using braid and a fluro leader for perch fishing or can I just spool my reel with some mono
How come you don't use braid 99 % on you tube do.Great videos BTW mate
I do now I used to use mono a bit more often though 👍
@AdventureFishingUK ok cheers don't blame you the price of braid is ridiculous great videos keep em coming mate.
Hej good tips. i have just bought some jelly / rubber small earthworms and red worms. How best should i fish with these for perch please ? Thanx
On a jig head or dropshot is probably the best way mate!
Caught about a dozen on Saturday on the same canal
Same place too? Any nice sized ones?
@@adventurefishinguk nah all pretty small
nice video. are you close to Liverpool city centre here? I'm in Liverpool and looking to start fishing the canals for pike and perch
Quite close mate yeah!
Im in Sweden and I’ve been fishing perch for weeks now without getting anything
That's a shame, I hear there's some huge perch in sweden!
When should I start using this method
About now but as it gets warm it gets better!
nice video man !! nice Perches !!
Thanks mate, shame no monsters but maybe next time! 🤞
can you fish mid water with these types of jigs? i have some massive perch in my local river, but the bottom is very weedy and snaggy in places
You can mate, works just as well if that's where the fish are!
i am going to do carp fishing and going on my canal with my float rod and my rigged and ready rod any tips?
Find a canal you know they're there! Many canals don't have carp 👍
Nice video! Whats the dept of that Canal? Try the Fox rage micro spikey 4 cm a beast for perch
Gets really deep in places mate especially round the locks. I have a few of them in my box tried one out and nearly managed to tempt a big one that had been ignoring my micro jig all day! Will definitely use them next time
Great stuff!
Thanks mate!
Got some good canels in Birmingham pal
Looks like it mate seen a fair few RUclips videos on them!
Have a couple of Jigs like the ones you used, do you tie them on the same way as a hook, and the same knot?
Personally i do mate yeah, some people use small lure clips too or tie a loop knot
What's the weight rating on that rigged and ready rod? I see the R&R website says 15-30g, so is it properly an UL rod?
I personally think those cast ratings are wrong, it's more like 2-10 on the lighter tip and 5-15 on the heavier
Great vid i go perch fishing where is this spot
Thanks mate glad you like it! This video was filmed in Liverpool on the canal
Thanks mate
Amazing video. What size lure was you using and what lures would you recommend?
Thanks mate, I’m not sure what size it is but it’s part of the savage gear mini perch kit I’d definitely reccomend that. My other favourites are the salmo hornet 3.5cm and savage gear rotex spinners
Just a quick question, can you eat them? Or are they too small even to pan fry whole?
Catch and release only for perch in the UK in my opinion!
@@adventurefishinguk gotcha! I don't know the regulations in the UK. But cool video man! I'm definitely gonna use your technique
Just starting out and looking to catch perch. Vid great what reel are you using please? Also do I use braid?
I use the RR3000 by rigged and ready, 10% off on their website using code AFUK10 if you’re interested!
What weight jig are you using. That’s very near to me and I never know if my weights are too heavy or too light.
I think this is a 2 gram jig head mate 👍 I did see some bigger ones cruising about but I wouldn’t go any bigger than that for the size of most of the fish I was catching. Bigger ones didn’t seem interested
They are spro jig heads i use same ones they are great and come in a few sizes these are the 2g ones ya can get 1.5g and 3g aswell, all are great
I grew up fishing that stretch but now fish about a mile up. There used to be a lot of 2lb perch down that way.
I'm 11 and me and my dad we love fishing
Thanks for watching!
do you have to use jig heads or can you just use a normal hook
You need jig heads or drop shot weights mate 👍
hanks
my key isn working as you can probably ell@@adventurefishinguk
Spinners do also work aswell as jigs if not better silver or gold work best
They certainly do! Thanks for watching!
@@adventurefishinguk I love all of ur vids aswell as Harry’s don’t really watch as much since he moved to Japan but still watch some vids
On the Bridgewater Canal (Warrington Anglers) we aren't allowed to fish within 9m of a bridge.
Rule 7) Do not fish within 30 feet (9 metres) of a bridge.
I call the marginal jigging "Dibbling" rather than walking the dog. I find it a great blank saving method if you scale right down to a micro sized soft plastic
I’ve not heard of that before but I like the word. Think I’ll start using it! Yeah I agree it’s a great way to pick up a few fish especially if it’s tough going
Easiest Perch method for me is to catch some minnows, use a shot and a size 10/8 hook and you'll catch every minute in the right spot 😉
True! I don't doubt that it works well, personally I prefer to fish artificial where possible 👍
Nice one
Thanks man!
I've only ever caught small perch this way .
My pb is 4.2lb using worms .
That's a monster, I've never had one that big. This method still works well for the larger perch, just upscale the size of your lures maybe ie using 5cm fox rage spikey shads and maybe use braid instead of mono.
Are you bouncing on the floor or just bobbing them on the retrieve ?
A bit of both mate, mostly bobbing on the retrieve
@@adventurefishinguk cheers. I’ve done terrible each time I go. I fish the rufford marina canal so not a million miles away from you. Only ever had pike.
Only just realised this is where I go aswell 😂😂
Do you have much luck fishing there? Thanks for watching!
@@adventurefishinguknot half as much as someone who can fish slower does but im getting there, snags round there are a killer though, i dont help by over casting into the bushes 😂 the bridges seem to be best, inside the bank edges also, They are around the lot of it tho because ive managed bites from nearly every section including the locks and under the brick road bridge by the barge pontoon at the end where you exit near the warehouses, they seem to absolutely nail grub/ larvae in dark colours or occasionally small jelly Spinners in bright colours, brown coloured thin worm lures bunched together and dropshotted seem okay sometimes too, its pretty much similar to you here except you can do it better 😂
What jig that is? Look good jig And I dont regocnice 😅✌️
I think it’s part of the savage gear mini perch kit
You said bridges, Does it work with piers too?
Piers on freshwater yes, for saltwater It works too just for other species 👍
@@adventurefishinguk okay
What size lure
I think this was about 3.5 or 4cm
where can I get the red eyed jig head
I think they're from the brand spro
I'm also in the uk
👍
Are you using braid or mono for your lure fishing?
Mono for my perch fishing braid for my pike fishing! Trout usually mono too but a bit heavier, thinking about switching though
Recommend braid tho you can feel the lure
In that kind of place, you can even catch with silver colored hook without a lure... Or just put some bread and reel it.
Not quite sure about that with a bare hook! It's possible I suppose. Using bait like bread and worms is always easier
@@adventurefishinguk 2/0 3/0 long bright hook, surely you will.
I am fishing a place that’s mostly 7ft is there any tips u can give or good lures
Is it a canal mate? And are there a lot of snags?

Lol the PERCH HACK in the thumbnail made me laugh
Haha yeah I only really used to spin for perch until I started using micro jigs, felt like a hack to me 😂 hope you enjoyed the video!
7:16 the way his fish was bent
If there is an easy way to catch perch, then there must be a hard way?
I have caught yellow perch on a bare hook. I have had them jump out of the water to grab my jig that is hanging off the end of my pole! I have caught them when a large perch grabbed a smaller perch I had hooked.
Just sayin', I don't know of a "hard way" to catch perch? Maybe just tying a night crawler on the end of the line without a hook? I have caught bass that way when crawdad fishing with a piece of liver tied on!
The hardest "thing" with perch is keeping them OFF your line when fishing for crappie!
What size jig heads do you use for perch
It varies, but I like 2/3g ones for smaller fish
Went yesterday and day before but didn’t catch anything
Try somewhere else mate or a new lure like a spinner maybe!
What if a pike takes it? they love those micro jigs you should be using a trace or something
Not many pike in that stretch mate! I've found usually only the micro pike go for them too and they come in easy, a fast strike too often hooks in the corner of their mouth. I've never had a pike snap me using them and I was often out using them in summer! I have started using a trace as a precaution
@@adventurefishinguk Completely understand what your saying but I just think that people who are new to fishing will be going down to their local canal on your advice chucking lures without traces and is not good advice for beginners fishing any water where there might be a pike
@@jamiesorensen9879 Good point, I'll add a bit in the description advising people to add a thin wire trace if there's a good chance of pike when they're fishing!
@@jamiesorensen9879 That's like all the trout men in the res I fish they use wee spinners and no trace, and theirs pike to near 40lb in the res aswell
