Indeed! Measure twice and cut once. Always get out of your Tractor-Trailer and check everything out, if you're unsure of anything. That extra 30 seconds can end up making a huge difference in the long run.

All Swift hires are recent graduates of trucking school, who don't know jackshit.

I've become a huge fan of this channel in the last year or so. Been 4-wheeling back and forth between IL and the west coast on 80 and 90 over the last 6 years, and half the trip is usually spent cussing out Swift.

I run 80 on a weekly basis from Columbus OH to Salt Lake City UT and back. I also spend half my time cussing out Swift and the other half cussing out 4 wheelers.
I must say though the farther west you get the better the drivers are. The east produces some extremely bad drivers.

True that!!!! When I'm on I-90 in Ohio, I typically do 70-76 mph, however one day there was this truck pulling a Amazon trailer and I was doing 76 mph and he was catching up to me,so I pushed my speed up to 80 and he was keeping up with me. Moments later he I think he decided to increase his speed (80+ mph), cause I noticed he was getting closer. So I moved over out the passing lane and he overtook me as I was going along at 80 mph. In order to keep up with him I had to do 90 mph or little over at times. He'd even tailgate other vehicles at those speeds

Also , there is not one driver , despite their claims, that has not ended up in some type of jam due to construction, given bad directions when called shipper/receiver for them, no street signs, etc. Every driver has thought “ Gee, now that I’m in this mess, how do I get out of it?”. It only takes between a breath and a heartbeat for it to happen to anyone.

I worked in the shipping dept of a paper mill. The best laughs we got was when a
driver backed into a dock and got out, walked back and saw he or she forgot to open the back doors. Always good for some humor.

When I was with my trainer his biggest thing was turning in too close and dragging the trailer across something so I over turned out and it was the best thing I ever did because I became super trailer aware. Good lesson. Steve

Yeah when I went to driving school back in 87, they taught us button hooking! I don't see very many drivers buttonhook anymore when they turn.

@@nrgyzr2012 I guess I was lucky my company taught us to button hook during training. Told us if you’re unsure if you can make the turn button hook it to be safe. And I always do. Anytime I am unsure I’ll make a turn or I can’t see around the turn. Button hook it is! Lol

The only incident I had gotten into, though, was when I hit a 'Low Clearance' overpass in Chicago, right after I had just bought a dozen Tamales from a small, carryout-only Mexican 🇲🇽 restaurant 🍴! That paper sack of Tamales felt like it weighed 15lbs or something! DEE-LISH!! Seconds after I pulled out into the street and drove about 1 block, I hit the overpass and got my chance to eat said Tamales!! Yummy! More funny debacle ensued in the 45 minutes or so after the accident but my comment's already too long!_* 😁🏆
Nobody's perfect. If anybody knows what perfect is than being able to get home after driving all night and open your door to show your family you made it home, to give them love and support. In 1989, I was driving north on Interstate 91 in Conn, Fell asleep and veering off the highway heading toward the bridge and a driver from JB Hunt Blew the horns and tap my truck to wake me up. I called the company so many time to find the driver for saving my life and letting me see my family again. The day was Dec 24, 1989 and my birthday.

I learned many things from smart trucking Channel and one of the points really stands out. Always stay away from clusters, let the cluster form behind you, don’t be in the middle of the cluster and certainly not the one following it closely.

I second that!! ...and not just tailers. The tracks the limit. There's no telling what lays ahead. Busses! Other trains! Car load full of (insert own thoughts)! My ex wife! A van carrying the Swift training department! Well the list goes on.
Think of the paperwork and delays.
Steep down grade Jake & down shift. And for you drivers with automatics, you can manually downshift.
The trick is to be in the proper gear BEFORE you go down a hill like Monteagle in Tennessee or the Grapevine in California.
These people are just too dumb and don't understand mechanical concepts. Had a dude tell me he went down the mountains with his Jakes "Screaming" at 12 RPM (he said 12 but I knew it was really 1200) but couldn't figure out why his foundation brakes where always getting hot and letting out the magic smoke.
Should be over 1800+ Rpms on a dry road to really be able to achieve maximum braking Horsepower for most engines. Hell sometimes you gotta wind it up to 2100...
I learned how to descend a hill properly on the Grapevine. 6th low is the best gear for keeping it at 35 mph on the downgrade. Alternate between the jakes and the brakes (mostly the jakes), and you’ll have no issues. It’s not that hard people!

2:00, them end dumpers are VERY tipsey! I yanked one of them around for about a year. I was ALWAYS told that there are 2 types of end dump drivers, those that HAVE tipped one over, & those that are still waiting to tip one over!
I have pulled frameless and framed dump trailers They can get scary right quick It depends on what kinda ground your dumping on

Most who get stuck don't stop. The trucks sag downward if the tracks are too steep, and it gets them stuck. Nobody stops on purpose, bonehead

Those 2 crashes after the first one are absolutely insane, those are fatalities for sure! Horrific
Drives me crazy to see some of these drivers trailer axles all the way to the rear going down the highway. I just don’t get it. There’s only two times you slide your axles to the rear. That’s unloading and reloading that’s it. there is going to be a time when you will have to have to exit the interstate for whatever reason. And you will not make a turn in some small town. USA. I just wish some of these young drivers would understand that.
They can get a big fine. It's called over bridging and makes it hard to back into a space.

"Don't park on the end"!! You know that's right!! A few years back, I was parked overnight, 3 spots from the end, at the Flyin' Hook in Winchester, Va. The first 2 trucks left in the early hours, so 2 empty spots to my right. Ol' Western Express makes the left, catches my hood just behind his dollies, and starts me a bouncin' and draggin', we me rippin' on the horns and cussin'!! I was up and getting ready to pull out, with the truck runnin' and the driver facing camera rollin'! Our safety department was messin' their drawers with laughter, while watchin' the camera footage!! "Just goes to know ya never can tell"!!
