Water Heater Blinking Error Code Reset Honeywell Valve

- This is a method to help you try to reset your Honeywell gas valve on your water heater. In this particular instance it was a "7 blinks" (gas control failure) error code. However you can try this for several different codes and it might work for you. It is imperative that you get the water heater pilot flame lit and hold the (round) button in for at least 2 minutes because sometimes if you do not hold it in long enough -even if the controller starts blinking - and you let go of the (round) button; the thermopile can't generate enough power (millivolts) to generate the proper error codes.
My Control Gas Valve did NOT reset to 1 blink or even less than 7. However since I was able to light the pilot and it did NOT turn off when I let go of the knob; I decided to turn the knob towards to "A" setting and the flame turned on! However it was still showing the 7 red light blinks, but after a minute or so it turned Blue! 🙌🙌 Hope this helps anybody else. Thanks for the video man, really saved me a headache.
Worked for me just now. From the off position turn to the pilot position and hold the button down while igniting the pilot. Once the pilot is lit continue to hold the knob down until you see the blue light blink. Once it’s back to blue you’re good to go.
Thank you 👍🏽
Thank you Mike, I bought a new controller, hooked it up, turned it on and got 7 blinks right from the start. I was pissed and sure i got a bad controller. I saw your video, held the button for 3.5 minutes and it reset and now is working great. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Thanks Mike. This worked for "5 blinks" too.
I am so glad I found this! We fixed it thanks to you!!!
Houston freeze 2022! Boiler turned off and I was tripping ⚽️ 🏀 🏈 I’m glad you uploaded this video. Many many thanks. 🙏🏼
Worked for me, thanks Ruben.
Holy crap! Thank you so much Mike God Bless you man!
Thank you so much man I just purchase a new gas control valve and my luck I'd get another faulty one but seen this technique worked for everyone else I set a timer and help it and at the 3 min mark it turned blue and works perfectly thank you and happy new year !!!
Thank you thank you thank you! After getting the gas turned back on in my house, I was getting the 7 blinks. This completely fixed it!!!!
If you don't have four or five minutes to wait, you can unplug the two leads that go into the thermostat, the light will blink for about 15 more seconds before dying out to nothing. Wait another 10 seconds. Plug the leads back in and it should be reset back to a single flash again.
You will need to relight the pilot after performing this reset.
Thanks so much. I saw the flashing light and didn’t know what it was. I checked it and it was flashing blue. From your recommendation I put it on A. It was on B. You helped a lot.
Thanks I was getting the 7 blink error too and couldn’t get it to light again . This worked it only took about 30 seconds for mine to reset .
Thank You so much!!! I had the 7 flash code, held the pilot button down and it worked in less than 3 mins. I then placed it on A it was on very hot previously.
Thank you very much. Worked in about 1.5 mins
Worked like a charm. Gotta you’re awesome thanks for saving my skin.
Dude! You just saved me several hundred bucks! I hadn't held it down long enough
A lot of help thanks man
Thanks Mike! The other video I saw was much more involved. I’m glad your simpler approach worked for the seven red blinks I was seeing. Very grateful you posted this.
This worked for me, thank you so much!
Thank you. Was getting 7 blinks after I lit it. This reset it. Thank you so much again.
Dang! I had lost hope but after seeing this video, I gave it a try. Shazaam! It worked! Thanks for posting this video.
Appreciate it worked on mine too
Thanks so much!
Fixed my problem!
This worked for me thanks
Yesss! Glad to hear it.
I owe you a beer. Thanks.
Is your knob set to PILOT when you're pressing that down?
Life saver
I'll try it
Did it work?
Dam all the videos ive watched and see all the positive comments. Im jere the only one who cant fix mine.
Yes it did
im replace new valve after that it game code 2 error thermocopile low voltage so i replace it it kept reading error 2 put a second new thermopile same thing error 2 after 30 sec valve pilot off.any tips on whats going on thanks for the advice
get it fixed? thermocouple issue?
Maybe what we have to do is sue these manufacturer companies for being so reckless!
I am about to replace my 18-year-old water heater. I prefer the old reliable gas valve, not the new fancy electronic valve. I know not to put gasoline in the basement, so I have never had a fire or explosion. The new fancy valves will cost more and will be less reliable. This is not progress.
?? Is it going to light while there is an error? The dial has to be on pilot for it to light. Are you holding it down while on "Pilot" ?
IT WORKED! My pre-RUclips search attempt to reignite the heater is what gave me the 7-blink code. I had dial on Pilot > Pressed ignite 5 - 7 times > rotated dial while keeping it pressed (out of frustration) and I heard it light up! I kept the dial pressed for about 30 seconds before I got a single steady blinking light.
My rheem is blinking twice
Sucks bc I can not afford for someone to look at it but I definitely need hot water but I’m literally having heart surgery in a couple weeks so I’m on medical leave with my job and they’re not paying me so I cannot afford. I have to do this on my own. I’m going down for my second attempt I didn’t hold it down for a couple minutes because I wanted to see what would happen but I’m going down to hold the button for 3 to 4 minutes to see if it will light and stay lit, wish me luck. I’ll come in again letting you know if it were. It worked the first time but then I didn’t hold it long enough. Thanks for the knowledge.
Good luck. Hopefully it will work out for you!
did it work?
Will it work for a 5 blink sensor failure code
Someone from 10 months ago said it did, so I'm going to try this on mine tonight.
We got an ao smith 40 gallons. We qre gwtting 10 blinjs and the wayer is not heating up. My huaband tginks is tge dust?
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with the 10 blink error code.
So you hold it down in position A?......Shouldn't you first turn it back to pilot?
No, you're correct. It should be held down in pilot. He said he just got it working before making the video, so I think he didn't want to turn it back down just to show the camera.
I just now did this with it set to pilot, and it seems to be working, for now at least.
It helped me out !!! But I turned it off then tried to turn the pilot on & it worked the lite started blinking blue again ..
Is it working properly now?
Just tried it and it worked, back to 1 flash. Let's see how long it stays. I set the knob to A.
Had to reset it again this weekend so it lasted only about a month. This I set it to just below the Hot setting.
3rd reset less than 2 weeks from the last one. Guess it's time for a replacement. I wonder if the replacement is an improved version or the same.
Our is flashing 9times. Error code says "chamber sensor failure". Any idea how to fix that??
Installing a new chamber sensor might work
@@mikemorrison4860 darn, I was hoping we could reset system and avoid that a replacement. Thanks!
mike morrison which one is the chamber sensor??? is that the temperature sensor or wich one any advise thanks mike for ur help
@Mike morrison
I'm having the same problem, any ideas on how to fix it?
Getting 5 blinks.. help..
Hold it down on pilot or A?
You can't push it in on "A". You can only push it in when it's in the pilot position. Give it a try you'll see what I mean.
I got a hydraulic system so its gotta be up all the way
Hello . Could you please describe each error code?
Unfortunately there are different controllers with different error codes. The error codes are printed on the controller or sometimes on a label on the water heater. If it's not on the controller look for a label up there about the middle section of the water heater.
Help. My pilot lights... but tank wont blink or fire up
Does the pilot light stay lit when you let go of the button or does it go out as soon as you let go of the button?
@@mikemorrison4860 it goes out...
@@mikemorrison4860 we did it last year (for my parents at their cottage) but cant figure it out for the life of me! I know I just did it last year.
what if your scared that gas will drop?
Then have you wife do it for you
@@yeahthatshouldwork lol
What about a 5 blink code
What does it say on the controller that five blinks means?
@@mikemorrison4860 IT SAYS SENSOR FAILURE WILL IT WORK?
@@mikemorrison4860 any answer would be appreciated
The 5 blink code
My pilot lit but the light never blinked and I held it down for 8 minutes. Released and it turned off? 🥴
Your thermocouple (thermopile) is BAD. Or one or more of the contacts on the board is bad.
