Last year plumber charged $568 to replace honeywell gas valve on my hot water tank . now we had a power outage and day later we had cold water, so i went and saw the 4 lights of death. my valve has no off or pilot description anywhere. i saw your video and thought why not, i will try this before i call the plumber. i cannot believe this worked! how do i describe the pure joy that ran through my body. it is surreeal. there is still good in the world. you my friend are a champion!!!!

Thank you Thank you! Not only did this work first time but I want to add it also worked on my Honeywell WV8840B1110 controller and it also worked for a different situation. My pilot light had gone out and tried in vain but I could not get it to light after several hundred attempts. Since I had recently turned the temperature up I figured I overheated the system and there was a fault code stuck in the control circuit, which is what I needed to reset. (I tried several other methods, nothing worked) So I started off with no blinking lights at all. The system looked dead, but I tried this sequence starting from OFF. I did exactly what Ruben described above. When I got to pilot, after waiting the 10 seconds I pressed the pilot button in, waited 30 more seconds for gas and on the first click of the igniter the pilot fired up. I moved it to hot and its now heating my water. Thank you so much. The point of my long post is that this method worked even when starting with no pilot at all and with no ability to light the pilot.

Well its Sat 27 Feb 10:15pm in Nashville - last night we realized - NO hot water - burner out (same as yours) - relighting pilot had that dreaded 4 flash sequence. So today I flushed tank out, was crud in there, but still the 4 flash error - went thru bunch of 'other' tips on how to fix - involving dismantling unit, fudging valves with a battery and other hocus pocus. Well gave up and wife called for plumber - but he couldn't come today. So at 10.15 LUCKILY happened on your video - and VOILA simple solution and FIXED!!! I cant thankyou enough THANKS!!

Ok, I've tried the other videos and some have worked, some have not (yes, this thermostat is THAT bad, that I've had to fix it THREE OR FOUR times) but you Sir, have just blown my mind!!!

Help INDEED! I was at my wits end with this one. absolutely ready and willing to throw in the towel. My Hail Mary search turned out to be one of the most amazingly satisfying ever. And I've found some GREAT fixes on youtube! I even tried some of my own similar random combinations like yours, with no luck of course.
Again, all of the other videos were valid and worked in many cases. Mine or, ours were just unique situations where the usual fix didn't apply.
Thanks again, Ruben. You saved a village. BTW, no need for an address, sir. The child will be delivered via Rainbow Pegasus when the times comes.
Nothing but love for you & yours,

Very thankful--saved use $150 weekend service call. THANKS! How on earth you''d "figure this out" on your own is not clear.
    1) Light pilot as per water heater directions 2) when you see the 4 blink status indicating "hot temperature shutdown" fault 3) turn controller knob to "very hot" wait 10 sec, turn controller knob to "hot" wait 10 seconds, turn controller knob to "pilot" wait 10 seconds, then switch controller knob to desired temperature setting 4) status light now blinks 1 blink indicating normal operation and you can hear the pilot start the heater and see the flame through the view port. Crazy but works!

Dude, thank you so much, we are selling our house and the water heater was turned off while we were out of town so it of course didn't want to turn back on after I worked all day getting the house cleaned up. I will be so happy to take a hot shower! Thank you!

Crazy that this works, and isn’t printed anywhere on any instructions.
Also worked on a non-honeywell model. So big thank you!

This is the first time I’ve ever left a comment on RUclips. I can’t believe it was that easy to reset the control! Thanks for posting this video and saving me some cash!

This is the gift that keeps on giving. Today I went on a call and it had a seven blink on it and I thought well what do I have to lose I tried your method on the Honeywell gas control valve and it fixed it. Thank you again this is the third time I've used your video.
