After a vacation back few months ago, there was no hot water, and the Code Light flashed 4 times. Called emergency plumber, charged me $99.00 to reset it. I asked him how to reset it, he wuold not tell me and the water heater started working. Since then, I searched online for resetting the water heater, and I found your video. Today, the water heater shut off and the light flashes 4 times again so that I reseted it right away, the water heater came back working. Thank you, and I really want to have a beer with you!!!!
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help on this. We have 5 children and not having hot water is a really big deal in our house. You just saved me from an expensive plumber/electrician visit and more importantly having to listen to 6 people complain about it. THANK YOU!
I spent two days feeling sorry for myself and finally went to the basement. I am so grateful for your instructions and guidance. It worked brilliantly!
No Hot Water. Light was flashing 4 time indicating High Temperature shutdown. So I followed the steps explained in this video and it worked great. Thank you for this.
Thanks ever so much, your advice was spot on! Guess I should befriend a "Plumber." Looked up the error code and it said to replace the whole control valve. Hopefully, the water heater heats up overnight and continues to do so. I didn't see Honeywell suggesting this solution, "hmm!" I also drained and refilled the tank, it looks like it could use a more thorough cleansing, next time! Thanks again.👍
After 24 hours of frustration, waiting ten minutes…clicking…and still the four flashes with a pause…I found this video. Worked on the first attempt. I had turned the temp up when it got cooler in the morning so I could take a hotter shower. I assume that’s what shut it off. Now I know to keep it on hot…no higher..and I should be ok. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much special edition I recently lost my father and I was stuck until I found you video man I thank you so much and I wish you the best in life
Exactly the same problem as I had. Follow his instruction I got flashing 1 time instead of 4 times that hot water not hot enough before. Thank a lots for this very useful video.
2:30am… Trying all the basics to figure out why I could get the pilot lit, but not the burner. Finally smartened up and RUclipsd it.. You saved my ass.!!! Thank you!!
An outstanding how-to video. In my case, high winds blew out the pilot light. No control lights were showing at all. Got the pilot lit, (three trys) and saw the light four-flashing. I found your video, and got the sensor reset on the second try. Saved me from replacing the sensor or gas valve. Nice work on the video - many thanks!
11/24/2022: Long story of efforts to get it going before the light started showing the overtemp at which time I saw my control, followed the video instructions and YES, talk about saving the day, LOL, Thank You Very Much for your help!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO. This is exactly what happened to me and I fixed it by seeing this video. The odd thing is a plumber came 3 days ago and wanted to charge me $150 to take it all apart and put it back together with old and other parts. I didn't know what to do until I started looking through RUclips and I saw this video. Thank you so much again You really helped me out and I appreciate this a lot. I owe you a nice cold beer!.
A beer sounds good. So glad the video helped you. I give all the credit to my plumber friend, and I thought I'd move it forward for others as yourself could benefit.
Worked perfectly, very easy, thank you Hopefully everything stays good, less than 5yrs old, keep seeing Honeywell has issues My furnace thermostat is having problems, also Honeywell
Woohoo I’m so thankful for this reset information it worked I had to buy a theropile and it allowed me to light the pilot but the hot temp shutdown wouldn’t allow me to do the burner. Thank you thank you thank you
For all my impatient people. 1) light pilot light 2) turn the knob to the very hot setting and leave it there for 10 seconds 3) then turn it to the hot setting and leave for 10 seconds 4)then turn it to the pilot setting for 10 seconds 5 then turn it to what you want the final temp to be never going above the hot setting and should be good to go. If not try again if none of this works the gas Valve will need replaced. I just did this and worked like a charm.
Hey I have this same water heater on one of my properties, just installed it a couple months ago. It is making far too hot of water even on the 1st hot setting, but the light indicator is flashing normal, any ideas why it would be doing that?
I got a new Whirlpool WH back in 2015 and I too have replaced the entire thermopile assembly several times and the control valve twice, once in 2020 (under warranty) and again a few months back, but now I wonder if it even needed the last one. I'm learning this system's ways. I've never gotten the 4 flashes but I believe I have a twitchy shut off switch. I never keep the temp control over HOT, but I still sometimes get no light with pilot off. Now a quick fix for me is to just press the reset button on cutoff switch, then depress PILOT and ignite. Is working every time. NEVER keep your temp setting on these things above HOT.
Turn after getting the pilot turned on turn it to very hot for 10 seconds and then too hot for 10 seconds after that back to pilot for 10 seconds and back to hot and it should light
1.Leave on off for 10 minutes 2.start your pilot light 3. When it starts switch to very hot for 10s 4.then switch to hot for 10s 5.switch to pilot setting for 10s 6.switch it to hot and leave it there. I just saved you 7 minutes.

CODES 3,4,5 Have to do with water temperature , could be a faulty thermister. Helpful video for folks !

4:05 is where he says what to do ...smh
This trick definitely worked like a charm but after 30min the system stopped working.😢 Do I need to repeat the same steps again ?
How to complete reset process If your gas control valve is also Honeywell but one of the ones that doesn’t have a pilot setting on the knob?
Can you leave the dial between hot and low? The hot is far too hot.
thank you
Thanks thanks
This worked!
Great Video, very informative. Worked perfectly for me. Thank you…
Great fi x
Mine flashes 4 flashes… haven’t been able to fix it.
Ours was set on "B" and it actually BURNS bad I just put it on setting "A" I hope that ls a happy medium
🤟🤟🤟❤
Good information but video is way to long
Turn after getting the pilot turned on turn it to very hot for 10 seconds and then too hot for 10 seconds after that back to pilot for 10 seconds and back to hot and it should light
It's a weird process these engineers make. Dang.
😢 Didn't work for me. 😭
Should keep it at Hot
Could have been a 90 sec video
Could off have but you tube won't pay them for a video shorter than 3 minutes
Thank you very much, very helpful video. I was able to turn it on. You save money and time. God bless you 🙏
THANKS FOR WASTING OUR TIME!!!
Worked for me and alot of other people and stopped us from calling a vendor, wouldn't say he wasted our time lmao
1.Leave on off for 10 minutes
2.start your pilot light
3. When it starts switch to very hot for 10s
4.then switch to hot for 10s
5.switch to pilot setting for 10s
6.switch it to hot and leave it there.
I just saved you 7 minutes.
Thank you! This worked for me.
thank you
