    I own a 2018 Stinger GT1 AWD and I’m at 32k miles. At a little over a year old, I’ve driven it a lot. Thus far I have not experienced 90% of what he has listed as issues. My brakes don’t have any shaking, there are zero oil or fluid leaks anywhere, and zero rattles. Only rattle issue was in the rear deck lid and that’s been fixed. Just wanted to give feedback as a StingerGT owner, thanks.

      I placed soft stickers on the tips of the rubber buffers that make contact when you close the hatch. The sound is coming from them tapping against eachother when you hit a bump. Kia didn’t design them correctly to have them snug when you close the hatch, so the fuzzy stickers on the ends fills in the gap and there is no more noise

    I’ve read ALL the comments just to be sure, as the author’s approach to the video was correct and interesting but the presented “facts” always have to be double checked. As a result, I saw only one or two people who confirmed most the mentioned issues being a Stinger owner; a few people who had “an Optima or something else 5-10 years ago with some issues, and that was the reason they thought Stinger and all Korean cars are the same crap”; and soooo many other people who are actually Stinger owners who claim to have no issues with their cars. So my sanity tells me that I cannot trust everything been said in this video. I suspect, the “facts” presented in the video are based mainly on forums where people naturally discuss only problems. If I have no issues with a car why would I go to some forum and post that I have no issues with my car so that everybody knew. Nonsense! Only those few with bad luck or driving habits go there and share their problems creating an IMPRESSION that all the cars of a particular model have these issues, OR that all the cars of a particular brand itself are crap and unreliable. Tuners and car enthusiast do not discuss such things either. And the last thing - there were some funny comments saying that “there is a reason why they are cheap”, from people with BMW logos in their avatars or something, which looked more like an upset expression of their jealousy rather than actual experience. Anyway, thank you for the video, I will definitely skip the 2018 ones and will definitely go for any other model year Stinger. Peace :)

      Good points and to add to that. If you break an engine in as per specified it makes a difference. I have a friend who does everything by the book and has great luck with all his vehicles. He even got higher speed on his performance snow mobile. So it does make a difference. If you are doing the 1/4 mile before break in period, you may have made a lemon.

    • @alj7094
      @alj7094 3 года назад +1

      I confirm at least 2 issues he mentioned in the video. The brake pads, the jerky shifting, and there's another common issue for all model years is the fuel pump as well as the squeaking turbo wastegate. Those issues I was able to cofirm with at least 10+ other stinger owners across the entire model years of the Stinger. My very own one is a 2021 model AWD GT. Although those are common issues, it doesn't mean most of the owners will experience the same issues, I know that. Otherwise itd be recalled already. Yours didn't have issues but it doesn't mean others don't. And btw, Kia is still a Kia. The Stinger is definitely cheaper than those cars with the same power level, there's no need for jealousy here. Each to its own, kinda unfortunate but it's true, I get that. But honestly I cringe when I see people thinks their stinger is a very expensive and powerful car. Bruh, it's just a 350HP AWD Korean budget friendly performance sedan. Buy it, drive it, and keep it quiet cuz it really ain't some fancy nancy car that makes you look successful

      I have a 2022 stinger only 6300 miles on it. When I first purchased the I didn't notice Chipped paint on trunk, it was very small . It had to be repainted, took two weeks. 2 months later I felt a slight vibration in the beginning but nothing was found wrong. 1st oil change, I ask to make sure they check tires , brakes, & rotors. I was told that's their normal routine anyway . Upon receiving my car I asked again. I was told it was checked. Upon driving on the highway, when coming to a stop , I notice the vibration once again. So I called and told them what was happening. I told them , I couldn't make it back before they closed. They closed at 6pm and it was 4:45 pm.
      I was traveling , they told me to bring it back Monday morning .
      I was curious so when I got to my destination, I took my car to a Kia Dealership and they told they didn't have anyone to look at it because they only had one technician before closing at 6:00. So now I will take it back to original Kia Dealership this morning.
      Lest than 7,000 miles on the vehicle and I pray whatever is wrong they cover it. I do not want another problem. SMH not saying all stingers will have this problem but this is a new 2022 stinger !

    I own a 2019 GT RWD USDM. Common issue was pulsing/vibrating front brakes caused by warped front brake discs. I noticed it around 7k miles. I’ve never raced nor hard braked it. KIA replaced them for free including new brake pads but they legally called the replacement “goodwill” and not a recall. I purchased for $35k. No options except for cargo mat. I did get bumper to bumper coverage to 100k or 10yr for additional cost for peace of mind.

    • @Donnie67654
      @Donnie67654 2 года назад

      I know this is 2 years late. But when you finish slowing down braking. Do you relax your feet a tad to remove some pressure from the brake pads? Because alot of people do that and also cause warping.

  • @ronnymb67
    @ronnymb67 4 года назад +14

    1 -In among the other industries Hyundai is in, they're also a steel company. They save a lot of money by making their own steel, rather than purchasing it. Most people don't seem to realize that.
    2 - Brake rotors do not warp. The vibration you feel is from people who get the brakes good and hot, then stop the car and keep their foot on the brake pedal. Material transfers from the brake pad to the rotor when they are that hot, creating the high spots.
    3 - The one thing you are correct on, is every brand has had or continues to have issues. Recalls? When I was working in Mercedes service, the S-Class was coming off of the carrier being delivered with recalls already in place for things like blower motor resistors and heated washer nozzles catching fire. Over the thirty years I was in the auto repair industry, I have worked for Volkswagen, Audi, Land Rover, and Mercedes. I couldn't even begin to remember how many recalls I dealt with LOL. How many "rattle" issues. How many control arm bushing /ball joint failures well within the 4 year 50,000 mile warranty. So they get a pass because of the emblem on their grille. Hyundai and Kia have come a long way from what they were 30 years ago. Are they perfect? Absolutely not. But no vehicle out there is.

    • @waynerm002
      @waynerm002 4 года назад +4

      If you did some research, you will find that this common term (warped rotors) used by consumers and not so knowledgeable technicians, is false. The issue is caused by the brake pads leaving deposits on areas of the rotors after hard braking, without a proper bedding process. These deposits cause the rotors to become out of balance and vibrate, you can read more at the link provided. As an owner of 2 stingers, so far, the 2018 and now a 2019, both had this issue. I changed the pads on the 2019 to better compound and did the bedding process, my car no longer has that vibration on braking issue. Enthusiast Stinger drivers have replaced their brake pads, as the pads provided by KIA ,while fine for most drivers (who never have the vibration issue), don’t do well with repeated braking from high speeds track driving or aggressive street driving.
      I’ve owned Audi and BMW vehicles and those things also have their issue however, as mentioned, they can be pricey to repair when an issue occur. When I traded my 535 M Sport for a KIA Optima, folks thought I was crazy until they saw the repair estimate bills I had from an engine issue that was covered under warranty. The breakdown was the dealer’s way of nudging me to get a $5000 warranty that would only last 2 years (based on the miles I drove). I’ve had 3 Optima Hybrids and each has gotten better with each refresh or replacement. The Stinger, being new had its kinks on some of the 2018s and possibly the 2019s, my 2018 for sure had an issue with air getting in from the drivers door, when they said was not aligned properly. While the first ‘fix’ reduced the noise, it didn’t eliminate it. The ECS tune in the 2018 caused some weird rear end hop in corner, if you hit a bump mid corner. The 2019 doesn’t have it, well you’ll have to be driving at a much higher speed to get it to occur, but it still performs better than the 2018. Adding an aftermarket rear sway bar fixed that for owners of the 2018.
      For my 2019, I ordered a Mando ECS box that allows one to tune the electronic suspension, that has tightened up the car with the 2 built in settings. It has an additional 4 custom setting that an owner can tweak to their preference. For KIA first foray into this level of vehicle they did a pretty good job, for the price. In the long run, KIA will resolve issues reported with the vehicle to make it better. They make running changes during a model year to resolve issues and their mid-cycle refresh typically improves on the initial design. The Stinger will be less expensive to maintain over the long run than the vehicles it competes with. For an entirely new vehicle to the market, the list of issues are minor, that says a lot about how well this vehicle is designed.

She was stuck in 0° weather with a 2 year old and no heat, and the road service said it would be three hours. We had a 2018 Stinger GT and we had no problem with it but needed larger trunk room and we stepped up to a K900, and before anyone gets stuck on stupid the K900 has no problem handing my wife's wheel chair. The Stinger's trunk is not as deep and I didn't want to remove the hatchback cover so people can see what is in the trunk. With the Stinger you can fold down the seats but the K900 you have more room everywhere in the car without having to fold the seats down. The Stinger is really a nice car. The only recall I had was rubber garments on the hatchback or something like that and the wire harness. The car rides nice and is fun to drive. I had no vibration issue and there was no hard shifting in our Stinger when driving the car. I would drive that car more on the hard side. This guy I have a feeling does not like KIA. I would not pay attention to this guy and cannot watch the entire video. One thing I will agree with him on is every car manufacture does put on some bad cars but the Stinger I don't think is one of them for the most part. I'm still part of a Stinger forum and have not heard anyone complain about vibration. I read up on the forum before my wife and I got ours. Truthfully there is not a manufacture that has not put out some bad products in some models. The Stinger just is not one of them since they got the wire harness taken care of. Before you buy any car read up on some forums and go test drive that car before you buy it. At least on the forums most are real people who do own them.

    I have a 2020 stinger GT. only problem so far was the drivers side mirror wouldn’t fold in when car was locked. Took it to Kia and they replaced it for free. Other than that, it’s a beautiful beast. I’ve also let my gear-head friends dive it and they love it. Some vibrations with the steering wheel when braking…..love your videos! Excellent analysis!

      I have a 2022 stinger only 6300 miles on it. When I first purchased it, I didn't notice Chipped paint on trunk, it was very small .

    One thing to get straight is that the Stinger is not intended to be a cash cow for Kia. This model serves the purpose of strengthening the brand image and showing people that it can build legitimate fun cars, while keeping the price down to be somewhat competitive. Therefore the point about "how they manage to make money" is not really the point here. They don't expect to make a huge profit off this model. However, the concerns that certain owners have could be real issues, especially that several of them have been recalled. Some people commenting are questioning the fundamental quality of Korean cars, and Im not sure why. I think most would agree that the overall quality has improved over the years. Recalls happen quite often as Sam has mentioned, and citing isolated incidents is just worthless. BMWs have been igniting for no reason in Korea and is currently involved in a class action lawsuit here, but I wouldn't question BMW's inherent quality because of this issue. Same goes for VW and their dieselgate problem.

      SuperDantheman95 People are questioning the quality of Korean cars because this isn’t the only vehicle from them that are igniting i to flames due to poor engineering and build quality. Do you live under a rock at the bottom of the sea? Hyundai ALSO is under a class action lawsuit behind this. There was a man just hospitalized almost burnt alive driving a brand new KIA Soul that also caught fire. There was a woman in Georgia last year whose Hyundai Tucson went up into flames unwarranted as she drove down the street. Her Tucson had less than 500 miles on it. Hyundai didn’t even show up for court when summoned to answer for the lawsuit. *This* is the reason people are questioning this company’s integrity and quality. I have just over 14,000 km on my Stinger and I believe it is travelling over the absolute poorest roads in all of Canada. I live in New Brunswick which has to be the pot hole capital of the planet. I have yet to experience any issues with my Stinger. As a former BMW 328 coupe owner, I too probably have higher expectations than the average driver. When I was looking at replacing my 2007 BMW (188,000km) because the cost of fixing it was just getting ridiculous, the Stinger was my best choice given the price/performance/features and the harsh environment I live in. Is it a BMW, Audi or Mercedes? No of course not ... but the price tag is also $20-25k less. I bought my BMW second hand and it had rattles at 137,000 km. Over the three years I had it I replaced the battery, rotors and pads twice, battery cable to the starter, water pump (which failed after I traded it with less that 10,000 km of driving time), wheel bearings all the way around and front suspension parts ... so guess what .... even German cars have moving parts that wear out. My BMW was the best car I have ever driven in our winter conditions and on a scale of 1 to 10 where the BMW was setting the bar at 10, my Stinger is some where between a 7 and 8. Having said that I don't have the same winter tires on the Stinger that I had on the BMW and I believe the fact that the BMW was a six speed manual I had better control. All in all I think it is a great car .... certainly not a race track car. Those of you having brake issues during track days ... just so you know ... most people that take their cars to the track have brake issues. Time will tell though as they say, I'm glad it has a 10 year 200,000 km warranty.

      Scott Mullin Yeah man, even Shelby GT350’s, S2000, and many other track focused street cars still come with brake pads and non directional vented rotors, and lower boiling point fluids that are meant mainly for street and light track duty. My GF has put about 25,000 miles with no issues. But only time will tell if all of the gadgets have the same problems as the “superior” German cars.

    I had a new 2018 Kia and all they did was deny the warranty all the time. The paint was flaking off in the strangest places (trunk lid) and Kia said it was not a defect but an 'effect' of how I drive. The car pulled to the left and they said it was 'road crown'. The rear windshield rattled in cold weather and they said it was due to the 'cold weather'. The transmission weeped a bit of oil and they said it was not bad enough to fix yet and said to 'keep an eye on it'. The leather seats began to sag and loose color and they said it was normal wear and tear (at just 500 miles?) I traded it in for a Mini Cooper. Not a single issue.

      KIA Toyota--honda make their money in sales.German and American car companies make them in the service dept.One of my roomates was a high end executive with a car company--and he got all the trade secrets.I just trades in a 10 year old crosstour type r for my stinger and except for oil changes--tires--the car got its last oil change before I traded it in and everything was green after the inspection--10 year old car and it was in the same shape as the day I got it.I left American car companies years ago because everytime I got an oil changed after the 2nd year--they would always find hundreds of dollars worth of shit wrong--got tired of it.I actually like American V8 cars better--but because of knowing this fact--and the way in which I was treated--which went along with what he said--I chose to get this KIA.The company would fold if the cars were unreliable and offering a 10--100k warranty.I buy my cars outright and use the dealer for any maintenence--so not only does it stay in great shape--but they can not mess with the warranty.I also drive high end people around--and have taken many AMG and M cars to get a simple oil change--on 100k plus cars that are less then 5 years old and need 700 dollar plus worth of work done everytime you take them in--with the threat of losing the warranty--that obviously does not cover crap.I also scoured the net for serious engine and electronic problems and found none--JD power also tied the stinger with the 3.3 TT equal to a honda pilot in reliability--that pretty much sold me.Plus the AWD system in my 2020 is fantastic and if needed can rip the car off the line and hit 60 in the mid 4s--not much under 40k can do that.

    Hello. Maybe this guy works for Audi. This my second Stinger wit only one rattle on the B pillar that I already fixed. I have leased 24 cars in 10 years. This is my best car ever. Also keep in mind that the GT2 has better suspension. I had Audis in the past and with those cars you will be take then often to the dealer for problems. My friend, German cars are not reliable. After one year my Audi's A4 sunroof was opening and closing by itself and changed break pads for $ 500. Right now Kia and Hyundai are leading sales in US with the Telluride and now with the new sorento. Keep an eye on the G70 and the new GV70 and Gv80 from Genesis. Same engineering from Kia Hyundai Group.

    Have a '21 GT with 33k miles and experience the shaky ass brakes and coolant is leaking from the back of the motor due to a failed housing and gasket. Not taking it to the dealer, as I've seen many comments about coolant leaks and it takes months and dealer never fixes the actual issue. Getting it fixed this weekend and $600 out of my pocket. Other than that, all good and love the car. Lots of mods and a tune, so it is a blast and results in a lot of butt hurt drivers of cars it's not supposed to beat. True sleeper!

    I have a 2022 stinger only 6300 miles on it. When I first purchased it, I didn't notice Chipped paint on trunk, it was very small .

But there is a bit vibration of my front brake occasionally, and other small issues: my transmission shift gear down and gives the car a backward drag feel or a little sudden break feel while I slow down my car from a normal city speed to around 10+ - miles/hr. It does not always happen even thought I asked the dealership to test drive and try to replicate the problem. Another interior issue is I found my Napa leather driver seat wear off at a corner place where my right leg inner knee have contract more often

    It's the brake pads, the material they are made of dont handle high temps. They make a euro spec pad that kia puts on the european models. But kia wont put the pads under warranty on a north american car, they want $700 just for the pads. It's cheaper to buy aftermarket pads and have the rotors turned , the issue goes away completely.

    I have a 2019 Stinger GT base. 1,400 miles in. Bought it December 1st 2019. So far, one of the best cars I have ever driven and I look forward to driving it whenever I can. Try finding another car that has the same performance as the stinger GT for this price. It’s almost no competition. Constantly get compliments asking if it really is a KIA and have experienced no issues whatsoever. Only issue so far is the city MPG. For those that have Experienced problems, guess what. That’s why there is the 10 year 100k mile warranty. I can’t think of another car that does all of this and more for the price. It really is a performance bargain.

I have a 2017 Kia Optima SXL with 25,500 miles on it feels like it has been driven for 80k miles . And the main reason for that is that I use it for food delivery. From day one so that will put a lot of wear on a car. But Kia dealer has been great so far they stick by their 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. They have replaced a bunch of parts on my car . So it all depends on how you baby or drive your car .

I argued that since the car is certified and I purchased it from the a week prior it should be covered since they didn’t do their due diligence of inspecting the breaks. Came out with free rotors and had after market pads installed. It’s been over 10k miles with no problems.
