"what are your intentions with my daughter?" "today, im gonna take her on a tour and see all her quorks and features, then im gonna get her on the road and sea how it rides, and then im gonna give her a doug score"
I believe the Kia and Hyundai brands are doing what Samsung has done: moving on from the bargain basement market perception of the late 1990s/2000s to becoming a top tier, respected brand.
@Clorox Bleach You know a new Kia comes with a 7 year warranty right? There's loads of Kias here that are 10+ years old. They are proving to be reliable.
So many people saying "Still a Kia". This is why the Germans are laughing at the world. You care more about the badge glued to the hood than the engineering under it.
I care more about a *QUALITY* fucking car than the badge on the hood. KIA is **NOT** a quality manufacturer. blog.caranddriver.com/hyundai-and-kia-recall-1-2-million-cars-for-engine-failures/
Seriously, it cost me $2400 to replace an alternator and new battery in my BMW 5 series. $1200 to clean out the transmission fluid. I’d take a Kia warranty over a BMW any day.
Looks like you didn't watch the Toyota Century video. Apparently Doug thinks that the badging all over the car is that of a majestic chicken instead of a Phoenix.
Doug said in his car reveal video that he likes to buy his cars in the Press Colors, so he bought a red car. Also he said that he buys a fully decked out model which he did.
Ferrari Dave im actually debating if this should be my next car I have a 2007 cadillac STS with a naturally aspirated 3.6 liter engine but its horrible with gas and also Ive never driven a v6 turbo engine, curious if I should get this as my first turbo car.
why would anyone pay over 50k for a kia when u can get infiniti red sport that has more hp and more luxurious, or a bmw 340, or a Lexus is350F, ect... this kia should of been 35k tops
is350F is slower with an underpowered engine, bad infotainment system that's outdated, and has worse handling. Yet, costs about the same as the stinger. At that point your just buying for the brand or status and not for any objective reasons. I was considering it and after this car was announced it makes the lexus is350F and acura TLX seem like a rip off.
yea id rather buy brand lol. that lexus also in 5 years will be worth 3x more then this car. this is nice but its a KIA. and resale will be shit you can get a 2012 optima for 5k all day go find a 2012 camry for 5k .... you wont
Meiryan Giovanni I absolutely agree on the build quality, they were lacking a car one actually wants though, up until now. I think this car will improve the image of Kia massively.
Doug, as an owner of a GT2, there are a few things I wish you had covered in your video, as I think they are features that support this car being right up there with luxury cars (esp circa 2018)… 1) Pivoting headlights when turning (dynamic bending light) 2) Retractable mirrors 3) AI features like dynamic cruise control and blind spot/cross traffic detection 4) Adjustable exhaust sound 5) Trunk opens automatically when near with key for 5 secs 6) Launch control feature with depressing brake and gas pedals simultaneously with traction and ESC off Quirks: 1) No badging that delineates GT-line vs GT1 vs GT2 2) Park is a button (at least on GT2 trim level) I think these features really add to what you mention here.
@Franz Fanon no, I have a 2018 and all I mention are included in the GT2 trim level While I’m at it, I’ll add that 7) ambient lighting is also adjustable to 5 colors - Blue, Green, Yellow, Red, or Purple
Yeah, I'm still getting used to the Park button. My wife's BMW has that too. I definitely have to do some double takes to make sure it's actually in park.
Alien Imagine the backlash and hate if a BMW or Audi had fake vents. Gimmicky items in a car are hate magnets. Disappointing since this car doesn't need them and would look better without them.
Because it looks like KIA had sex with a Dodge Magnum - and Magnums are absolutely FUGLY. I don't see this selling for shit in America. Nobody here is gonna pay 50K for a KIA
Livinghighandwise if a Genesis holds the value the same as BMW then that means it deprecates very fast..... German luxury cars depreciates the quickest
yea i wouldnt pay 50k even if it has "all the options" when i could get a fully speced out scat pack charger/challenger 485hp, for $46,000. this kia is $12,000 over it's value mark. shouldve been 40k not 52k
Something you should have added to your video is that in 2006 Kia hired former Audi designer Peter Schreyer to design much of their current lineup including the Stinger. And he is a huge reason the Stinger exists and is so good looking.
NovaResource Exactly. I don't know how he didn't mention that. The new designs of Kia have the "Audi touch". This Stinger even have the same AC vents as the Audis.
Yep. Albert Biermann, former head of the BMW M Division, is now Hyundai's, Kia's, and Genesis's lead engineer. You can tell he had a hand in their MY 2017+ compact cars that get independent rear suspension. They got two great people to really get cars into the market that are going to change the way we think of quality and value.
I think this car is a huge success, where I live in Australia for every BMW I see, I probably see about 5 Kia stinger GTs. Edit: I didn't know so many people liked this comment lol
Chrome is called when the metal chromium is deposited by electrolysis -usually on an intermediate copper layer- on a steel piece. In this case looks like a plastic finish as the one in toys an consumer electronics.
Valanahara because it’s not chrome..... it’s plastic with a sticker.... hence reflective material... chrome is metal dipped in a solution and is a highly toxic process hardly available anymore
search it hyundai kia sudden acceleration damage conroad bearing. cylinder scratch, engine knocking problem. in korea they r so much hate. korea car company history only 30years other brands 100years over
guy good, yes there was a massive problem with the manufacturing of that particular engine (from 2012 to 2014 I believe?) and I had an optima that fell under that recall, which ran 100% fine for me but I did trade it in. my friend w. a sonata with the same engine did experience the metal destroying her engine and they did end up putting a whole new engine in her car. kia did send out a warranty extension from 100k to 120k bc of the issue but yes, it is unfortunate. it was a well known problem though so im not 100% sure why I've seen you post it 500x. it was on national news and I did receive many letters from kia about it. I no longer own that car so im not sure if they have done anything else to rectify it.
Yeah i don't get that either. I have much more respect for brands like Kia and Hyundai than the German premium brands that charge you extra for options that come standard in cars half the price. If i lived in the US you bet i'd rather take a Stinger GT over a base model E class.
@@idkwuisp7626 the thing is that yeah it’s a good car and value but the Kia badge does weight it down a lot especially when you consider it’ll probably be worth 20k if that in 5 years. Kia’s and Hyundai’s don’t hold their value well.
Ironically, with Kia being developed by ex-Audi Peter Schreyer and ex-M Division Head Albert Biermann, the Stinger might turn out more Germanic in nature than current BMWs/Audis.
yeah just because the guy that runs the place decides to change every part and quality in a day or two? people leave companies and join others all the time, this does not mean much unless company is changed from the ground up, kia is hyundai and they use same shit the parts are interchangable you must be joking thinknig its more german
Rhyme905 do you think the only thing that makes a German car is German parts? Long time fans are jumping the BMW ship because they've lost touch, clearly there is more to it
Rhyme905 Albert Biermann has given interviews where he decried BMW for losing focus on quality control and overcomplicating handling dynamics and he has said he would be bringing old school BMW ethos to Hyundai/Kia. The all new Stinger/G70 platform is the first product under his supervision.
Actually, I salute people who buy Kia vehicles. They aren’t afraid to break from the status quo and try another car company. I respect people that can break from the pack and make their own way. Kia Motors is blazing their own trail. I just have to respect that.
I've got 10,500 miles on my stinger in three months. It's gotten 30 mpg, had zero issues minus a couple paint chips and has been nothing but an absolutely amazing cruiser. I've hit its top speed and tracked it. It has performed well in any situation I've put it in, including snow
Slider6294 worst car to buy damn u fucked up lol do research before u buy cars instead of trying to be different and cool. Genesis is the worst car in terms of appreciation they lose the most Value out of any car ...
I actually find it quirky, just like Doug's review style in general. No professional equipment. Videos look homemade. I can tell when a video is by Doug, just because of its non-professional video quality. Kinda gives Doug a unique character (besides his Doug Score and the associated memes about him).
Hello Sam, welcome, the year is 2018 and high end phones are better cameras than most cameras on the market. This is due to processing power that rivals laptops and dual lense cameras.
This is the video that sold me on the Stinger. I got a red rwd GT2 a couple weeks ago. Awesome car with tons of power, good handling and a great interior, AND 100k mile warranty. Got it for $5k under Msrp as well.
@happy gekko I wouldn't say that because I still think my Evo 8 was the best car when it comes to performance. But the Stinger is the best I owned when it comes to blending performance and comfort. Just like a true GT car should be. I honestly think the Stinger is a great car that probably won't be too successful just because its made by Kia and because some people still think its a sports car, which is not.
I have a gt2 with 20k miles on it. Purchased in 12/17. It is my wife’s daily driver and has been solid with no complaints. A couple little quirks that were quickly resolved by Kia. Was looking at bmw, Lexus, and Audi. Price, warranty and hatchback were selling features.
I used to drive BMWs. My wife and I had a 528, X5, Z4,Z4, X1,Z4, and we loved them all. I started traveling for business and ended up in Hyundai's and Kia's. I started to see that for the money and the options the BMW's no longer made sense. Especially when we bought some CPO BMWs. I have never had so many things break on any brand of car as we had in BMWs. And some repairs weren't covered and the expense to repair was outrageous. So we switched to Kia's. First a Sorento, then an Optima, then traded the Sorento on a Niro Hybrid and traded my Optima on a Limited Yellow Stinger GT2. I have never had so many people stop me and ask about the Stinger. I've had people follow me into stores just to ask about it. Many think it's a Panamera, others think it's a Maserati. I wanted people to look at the car and come to an opinion before saying what they usually say, "But it's a Kia" or "I can't believe this is a Kia". So I took off the KIA badge on the rear and replaced it with a large Stinger script like they use in Korea. It still says Kia on the steering wheel and hood. I'm proud to say I love my Kia's. So far I have never had a problem with any of them (except the paint recall on the yellow but Kia did the right thing and repainted the whole car plus a financial incentive. They really know how to handle problems. If Kia lacks in any area compared to the luxury cars it would be the dealership experience. I liked the nice lounges and free snacks and most of the time a loaner car with my BMWs. But since I haven't had any problems with the Kia's I guess that hasn't been all that important. The driving experience is second to none at this price point. Every option you could want and very good performance. I love the hatch back as it becomes a very versatile vehicle.
Growing up, the first 9 years of my life we had American cars. Mostly GM and Chrysler. We had a Chevy Blazer, Buick Skylark, Buick Century, Dodge Caravan, and Plymouth Voyager. The last three were horrendous vehicles. The Century needed a new transmission because the 2nd gear stopped working. Then it had an issue with the distributor contacts which apparently was a common problem with Buicks that had the earlier version of the GM 3800 engine. The Chryslers were the worst of them all. Especially our 88 Caravan. It went through a starter motor, fuel pumps (6 of them due to a design flaw causing the fuel pumps to burn out), a cracked cylinder block gasket, and a busted brake line. And I am not counting the small things like failed windows, shorted interior lighting, interior panels coming apart, AC system failed, door locks failed, and so on. The 94 Voyager had a strange problem where when you put it in drive, it needed 5 seconds for the gear to engage and would randomly power off at red lights. That car we ditched shortly after. After 1996, we bought only Japanese cars. And these cars were solid with very little to no issues at all. We had a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder and then a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. After that a Suzuki Grand Vitara. My aunt who lived with us for a long part of my childhood had an 1990 Subaru GL. She had that car for a very long time with the only real issue was the notorious 80s era Japanese car rusting problem. Then she had a 1998 Altima after that which she also had for a long time. In college around 2004, I got my first Korean car experience. My uncle had a 1996 Hyundai Accent that he was getting rid of because he moved to Arizona. I bought it off him as a cheap "learn to drive stickshift car". My uncle never took care of it. So once I took it off his hands I had the engine flushed out of all the sludge, made a few minor repairs to it like replacing the Catalytic converter and the two O2 sensors, and I never had a problem with the car ever since. It was an excellent little car. We also had a 2002 Sedona which my dad had as a work vehicle (to replace that Voyager). It was ok. It had a few small issues like the rear heater had a leak but to be fair, it was a pre-owned vehicle. I now own a 16 Rav4 and 30K miles later, absolutely no issues at all. Since then, I will buy only Japanese and Korean cars. We are looking for a 3-row SUV. And I have it narrowed down to Honda Pilot, Subaru Ascent, Hyundai Palisade, or Kia Telluride. Am really leaning towards the Palisade.
+Tom Ausburne, This is my experience as well. Although I don't have the Stinger. I have the 2018 Sonata Limited and the 2017 Santa Fe Limited both with the ultimate package.
I live in San Francisco California and the other day i’ve seen someone driving a black stinger and i kept trying to figure out who’s the car maker till i got here, that car looks so awesome in person, it’s pretty amazing what Kia has done much respect. ✊
We just bought one, and it's fantastic and a relative bargain at under 30k. Granted, I got the regular GT, not the GT2 shown, but still very well equipped.
Non-car guys don't know its existence and won't even care about this car because they'll think it's just any other kia, not a bmw and mercedes rival. It's unfair to judge cars by their badge. Look at current maserati models, you'll think they're brilliant cars but not at all. Don't judge a book by its cover.
Doug loves a kick in the head, that's why until cars will give him a kick in the head equivalence he is going to rate very fast cars a low score in terms of acceleration. I wonder what score he would give to my 33 year old car. Probably -3.
Haha. I know right, how much faster does it get outside these supercars that break 3 secs. Actually some don't eveb, but how much are those.. how many hundreds of thousands?
Albert Biermann who spent 3 decades at BMW M division left for KIA who’s now responsible for Kia performance...and Peter Schreyer, the person behind the Stinger's looks, whose résumé includes time as Audi and Volkswagen's head of design
Kia aint playing around no more even the kia optima looks nice. Every since Hyundai has owned kia they just keep getting better. Hopefully this car doesnt sell well so I can get a steal on one used in a year or two. I think kia offers some of the best used car value if your going to keep it a while due to the lackluster name.
I think he's referring to relative price points. IE. you're not going to get into a loaded BMW for 50k. But a KIA that's loaded and offers that performance it's a relatively awesome value.
Honestly just debadge it. It's not that businessmen want BMWs, it's that they don't know this thing exists and they certainly aren't going to stroll into a Kia dealership hoping to find a luxury sports sedan. When it's time for a new car they say "let me check out the listings at my local Audi, Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar dealerships". They don't think about all the companies that aren't known for their luxury cars. If your argument is "It's a Kia", grow up. It's not the company that made the car it's the car itself that you are buying. This is an amazing deal that surpasses all the Mercedes and BMW cars that the Stinger competes with, and I think it would be a major success if they just advertised it more. The Alfa Romeo Giulia has seen slow but steady growth since it came out all thanks to marking, and I think this would benefit from it too. I know people in college who didn't even know Alfa Romeo existed until they saw a Giulia commercial.
Drift Rai You should see how heavily it's marketed at the Australian Open. Every 5 minutes, Stinger commercial. There were 2 display vehicles. Yet, people are still buying BMWs and Mercs. People don't want a Kia, even if it's a good car.
All modern cars are decreasing in quality and getting made with more rubber and plastic that will deteriorate long term. Just gotta pick a brand that is going on the downward spiral the slowest rate. It’s Toyota>Honda> above all other garbage car companies.. what makes you sad about consumers holding car companies accountable to their recall and reliability track record? Are you a Kia car dealer or something😂? A sucker is born every minute you should have no problem selling KIAs 😂. If you’re not tied to the company do some research on car makes and how some just fall apart
Yes, but part of cars is the status symbol as well. People want to show off to their friends they got a BMW or Audi not necessarily a Kia. Unfortunately, Kia is still associated with economy cars and value cars and not with high end luxury cars.
@@louiss.w1944 but I dont go off shit that happened 5 years ago like people saying dont buy the sportage from 2020 becuase one of the cars blue up from about 2 genarations ago for non car people badge means a lot but from a current stand point most car companies that were shit back then are good now but the stigma stays cause people dont like the small boys becoming men lol people talk shit about dodges mpg and mechanics yet police are buying them more then ever people talk shit abput GM but ever since my mom got one all tho we havent even broke 10k yet mpg has been very efficient and the terrain can move decently quick and for a slightly above base model small size SUV has a nice exhaust note not at all what these GM haters were saying
Think its because chrome is an actual thing, like an actual plating... this is not its plastic and not really chromed... so its in reality just a mirrored looking material
Only the curbweight is becoming ridiculous. Peoples are complaining everywhere that the Lexus RCF is heavy. This car is 100 kg (around 200 pounds) heavier.
You are right about that. I would simply point out that every car reviewer points out the high weight of the RCF, but they generally overlook the weight of the Kia. @@e90baby
The market will not support a Genesis and another premium Korean brand. Genesis is doing relatively well as is with only 2 premium sedan models that are in segments that are not even growing.
@@aaronsanchezz just from your comment I learnt a couple of things about you. First, you just called a man gay just because he thought the car performance was intense from his personal experience driving the car. Secondly you are not mature enough to release not even teenagers call other people gay anymore these day. Another thing your message suggest about you is that you are unable to have a constructive argument/debate as you would insult your opponent instead of facing them with facts
He does it because some cars are plain out painful for anyone over 6 foot. I've been in suvs that were in drivable with out my legs getting in the way of the steering wheel
Matt and Damar the 370Z and Scat pack are largely college kid's car where I live. They're nothing more than that. As you get older you'll know what "sport and comfort in one car" mean.
Dukens Saint Vil The same with the optima. If you just had change out the kia badge to a merceders, audi, jaguar, lexus or bmw badge it would be seen as a very exclusive car
I leased this car in large part to this video. It's now been about 15 months and I still fall in love every time I enter my garage. Every time I press on the gas pedal and get rush of speed it's so incredible. Haven't had a single issue in the past 15 months either, which I'm honestly surprised about with the new model. It also doesn't have the usual creaks from 'cheaper' brands. Now for the negative. The adaptive cruise control is kind of shit. It's functional but compared to my Grand Cherokee's it's not as polished. It's a big car but still a bit hard to get in to. Plenty of headroom once inside, but it's low. Comparable to a 3 series, however (my last car). The materials clearly aren't luxury but the seats are good (headrest is super comfortable). I wish you could also fully turn off the LCD infotainment screen. Even in its 'off'/clock mode it's a bit bright. Finally, the narrowing of the car in front makes parking a bit different. I'm used to more rectangular vehicles, but parking perfectly in a space is damn near impossible. You can't line up with the parking space lines and it's even more frustrating reversing into a space since the visibility is relatively poor. It's not the end of the world, but if you're like me who takes pride in parking dead center in a space, you're going to get your ego hurt. Basically, for $50,000, the GT2 is the best fucking deal. If you don't care about cooled seats and a sunroof, GT1 is fine. Only reason I leased it was because it's a new model type and I still don't expect it to hold value compared to sticker. But since this car probably only appeals to people who care about cars, I expected used versions to be well taken care of, but not numerous.
I don't really understand why so many people still make fun of KIA these days despite all of the amazing progress they have made in the last decade. During the recession when most major companies were struggling, KIA and Hyundai were raking in the sales and investing wisely in research & development. I've owned lots of nice cars, Hondas, Toyotas, and a loaded R-Design Volvo at one point... but I have recently picked up a 2013 KIA Rio SX and I must say that it is by far the most reliable, most efficient, most intelligently designed, and most well-equipped car I have ever owned and personally I think the styling is great for a subcompact. It's also quite peppy and a lot of fun to drive, though it's no sports car obviously. People are too busy laughing about the shoddy KIAs of yore that they can't seem to notice that the cars right in front of them are the same quality, if not better, than current Japanese cars and at a fraction of the price. My theory for this is that Japanese car companies have started to become more Westernized and their focus has shifted more towards pushing sales rather than building a perfect car. I truly believe the Korean companies are in a sweet spot right now where they are building an honest good car for a good price for people who just want something that works well. In essence, they are not in the business of ripping you off. The Stinger is an important move for KIA and really shows how much they have improved, but I encourage everyone to check out the rest of their lineup as well. They may not be the most attractive or plushest cars on the market, but they are incredibly good value. Take it from me, a car enthusiast since birth, KIAs are great cars and I think they will continue to be for a long time.
Do you have any experience to back that up? I researched the competition extensively when choosing my car and found the KIAs to be no less quality than any of its competitors. In fact, it is better in many ways than the Chevy and Ford offerings. My previous car was an exquisitely made Volvo with an outstanding build quality, and yet the KIA does not feel cheaper at all. Its amazing what a 4 years difference can make as the manufacturing techniques and materials trickle down to the more budget-oriented automakers. And owning the Volvo for 2 years and losing over $5,000 in nonsense maintenance and repairs was a nightmare. I have owned the KIA for over a year now and have spent absolutely nothing (not including gas and routine oil changes) to keep it running perfectly. That's nothing to joke about. Even my well-kept Honda Civic had a long list of faults the KIA does not. One of the only places I have noticed KIA cutting back to save money is the quality of the paint, but if you can take good care of it and keep it clean, you shouldn't have to worry about it.
I agree. Never would’ve considered a Korean brand, let alone Kia 10 years ago, but not anymore. I just picked up a fully loaded 2016 Kia Sedona and couldn’t be happier. Almost 0 problems in 2 years of ownership and the car is amazingly designed. Kia has come a long way and you only realize it when you cross shop them with the competition which I did extensively.
Hate to bear the news, but the industry is moving towards direct injection engines. They are simply better for performance and better for efficiency with the known drawback of carbon buildup. KIA is really brave for being one of the first companies to offer it in such a wide range of vehicles but they are not the only company having issues with them. Ford and Volkswagen are in the same boat. It will take time for the technology to improve. I love the GDI for its instant throttle response. Sorry to hear about your Rio, but going forward I advise anyone who buys a direct-injected car to install an inexpensive oil catch can. It will greatly extend the life of the engine. It's just the sad reality of modern engines... it's not strictly a KIA problem. You only hear about it often because KIA is one of the first and also because there are so many of them on the road.
Thumbs up from me. I am a Kia owner, never would have thought but they are great cars. Mechanics here in Australia rave about them (and all of them suggest avoiding european models unless you have $$$ for maintenance).
I got a Kia cerato and my old man liked it so much he got one. Its a brand new, 7 year warranty, for AU$17k. Thats a fucking bargain for such a car. The brands reputation needs to change becuase i test drove the mazda and toyota. Kia was better - FOR LESS
Those bloody things also terrorize Polish roads. You drive calmly only twice the limit and suddenly you see this car in the mirror ... then your driving license is leaving you in a stinger.
I'm gonna give Doug the benefit of the doubt that he knows what chrome is, given the number of vehicles he's driven and owned during his life. So I'm gonna assume it's some other sort of reflective material that looks like chrome but isn't.
If you're going to drop 50k on a fun, sporty car you're going to want something with a brand name you can brag about; showing it off to women/neighbors/coworkers is part of having an expensive car. It's not like when you're buying a crossover as a daily driver.
I love that you can set the turn signal flashes to seven. I always feel that the three mine does isn’t enough, so I always end up hitting it twice for six flashes.
I never liked them because they're for people who aren't signalling an impending lane changed. They're for people who put the signal on while they're changing lanes. That's not what a "signal" is for. It's like people who put the signal on while going around a turn. It's like, "I don''t know what a signal is for but I do know where the switch is."
Thanks for making me spend on $44,000 on a freaking KIA last month Doug. I went all out and bought an AWD GT2. I had to check one out after watching this review a couple months ago and fortunately for me, my wife’s car was totaled while parked in front of my house. I test drove a couple used Panameras, various Audi RS/S, and various M division BMWs and although it’s not as fast as some of the ones I test drove, the Stinger GT2 was by far the most appealing to me (The price was a bonus). Although my company flys me everywhere, I’ve opted to drive the last couple business trips (get paid .545¢ per mile) and have put about 7,000 miles on it. One trip luckily put me on a route that was only 20 miles away from the Tail of The Dragon, so I hit it on the way back and this car handled beautifully while pushing it to its limit from start to finish. The only issue I could find was what seemed to be warped rotors midway through the dragon, however it appears to actually be build up from the OEM brake pads causing the slight wobble when warmed up (easy fix). With an MBRP exhaust, Akrapovic tips, and cold air intakes installed, she sounds incredible. I have a Burger Motor Sports JB4, HKS plugs, and dual catch cans sitting in my garage awaiting a warmer day to install. On 91 pump, it should be over 450hp and 500 ft lbs once everything is installed. I highly suggest that people test drive these cars if they are in the market for a 4 door luxury sports car. They fit two child seats in the back comfortably and are the perfect car for a Dad to convince his wife into letting him purchasing. I gladly handed the keys to my 2018 Lariat w/tech package over to my wife to drive for now on.
I’ve never seen one of those until this morning on the way to work. It merged onto the interstate going the same way I was going. At first I thought “wow. That’s a really nice Audi (The rear end reminded me of an A7). Then I got up close and saw it was a Kia and I was like NO WAY!
I would argue in hindsight that the importance figure be lifted to a 7. The Stinger marked the beginning of a complete turnaround for Kia in both quality and reputation. Mad respect.
Definitely my next purchase, this car turns heads, I took it for a test drive as my current lease is almost up, everyone was staring, felt great, and very good handling
sanju2 Remember when people said that about Toyota’s? I was around then & do remember. How’d that work out for them? Reality is Kia is now a genuine competitor, people who don’t get that are the ones missing out.
shush, don't want to ruin his fragile ego. :P Everyone shit talked Toyota, and Honda in the 70s/80's. now tell me what are two of the most popular brands in the states now? oh yeah. Reality is that Kia is on it's way to being one of the best brands in the world. because at the end of the day, being a KIA doesn't stop the stinger from being one of the best sedans you can buy at the 40-50K range. @@Dirtxbc It's unfortunate, but that can happen to any car from any brand. One example of really, ANY product failing should not be taken as indicative of the entire brand as a whole. Actually, statistically Kia is one of the most reliable brands in the auto industry. Sorry to hear about your friend's issue though. I'm sure Kia took care of them though.
Honestly, who cares that it is a Kia. I always thought the Optima was a terrific looking car and this looks nice and a bit quirky. It has a lot more style than a lot of other cars. And $50K isn't outrageous to spend for a car this well equipped and stylish.
BMW, Audi and Mercedes drivers disliked this video but can’t stop KIA. That great 10 yr warranty and now the features rival all other luxury sports cars for the price. With BMW you’d be paying an extra $1000 for every single extra feature not required by the government like headlights, airbags, back up camera and windshield. lol

I believe the Kia and Hyundai brands are doing what Samsung has done: moving on from the bargain basement market perception of the late 1990s/2000s to becoming a top tier, respected brand.

elesjuan i don’t see the stinger gt on that recall list so why does it matter. Plus after that massive recall they’d probably step it up
Seriously, it cost me $2400 to replace an alternator and new battery in my BMW 5 series. $1200 to clean out the transmission fluid. I’d take a Kia warranty over a BMW any day.
$2400 for an alternator? I think u got ripped off
Yup I remember those days....I will always ❤ BMW but the maintenance on them are super expensive. Now I ❤ driving my Kia. 😁

why would anyone pay over 50k for a kia when u can get infiniti red sport that has more hp and more luxurious, or a bmw 340, or a Lexus is350F, ect... this kia should of been 35k tops
is350F is slower with an underpowered engine, bad infotainment system that's outdated, and has worse handling. Yet, costs about the same as the stinger. At that point your just buying for the brand or status and not for any objective reasons. I was considering it and after this car was announced it makes the lexus is350F and acura TLX seem like a rip off.

Doug, as an owner of a GT2, there are a few things I wish you had covered in your video, as I think they are features that support this car being right up there with luxury cars (esp circa 2018)…
1) Pivoting headlights when turning (dynamic bending light)
2) Retractable mirrors
3) AI features like dynamic cruise control and blind spot/cross traffic detection
4) Adjustable exhaust sound
5) Trunk opens automatically when near with key for 5 secs
6) Launch control feature with depressing brake and gas pedals simultaneously with traction and ESC off
Quirks:
1) No badging that delineates GT-line vs GT1 vs GT2
2) Park is a button (at least on GT2 trim level)
I think these features really add to what you mention here.
@Franz Fanon no, I have a 2018 and all I mention are included in the GT2 trim level
While I’m at it, I’ll add that 7) ambient lighting is also adjustable to 5 colors - Blue, Green, Yellow, Red, or Purple
Yeah, I'm still getting used to the Park button. My wife's BMW has that too. I definitely have to do some double takes to make sure it's actually in park.
Exhaust isn't adjustable on older models.
Idk why so much hate
Put Audi or bmw logos on the car and everyone goes crazy
Alien Imagine the backlash and hate if a BMW or Audi had fake vents. Gimmicky items in a car are hate magnets. Disappointing since this car doesn't need them and would look better without them.

This thing is going to nuke itself in depreciation which is wonderful. This is my next car. Just give it a 18 months and 20K miles.
Snazzy Labs not necessarily. It's a Kia so parts are cheap, the usual reason luxury sedans depreciate so fast is because they're expensive to fix.
They thought that about the Hyunda Genesis and it holds it's value as well as a BMW.
Oh hey Snazzy Labs! Didn't know you're a Doug fan. Love your videos!

They also managed to headhunt one of the heads of BMW’s M Division to assist with their current lineup.
That's right, Albert Biermann in 2014.
Interesting. I noticed the three round AC vents and controls below it are almost identical to an Audi A3/S3.

Chrome is called when the metal chromium is deposited by electrolysis -usually on an intermediate copper layer- on a steel piece. In this case looks like a plastic finish as the one in toys an consumer electronics.

guy good, yes there was a massive problem with the manufacturing of that particular engine (from 2012 to 2014 I believe?) and I had an optima that fell under that recall, which ran 100% fine for me but I did trade it in. my friend w. a sonata with the same engine did experience the metal destroying her engine and they did end up putting a whole new engine in her car. kia did send out a warranty extension from 100k to 120k bc of the issue but yes, it is unfortunate.
it was a well known problem though so im not 100% sure why I've seen you post it 500x. it was on national news and I did receive many letters from kia about it. I no longer own that car so im not sure if they have done anything else to rectify it.

It isn't *just a KIA,* it is a high performance Kia with good value and being more reliable than BMW.
@@mrnoname7370 well spoken, on the other hand when these are selling for like 20k its gonna be a huge bargain for secondhand buyers
Ironically, with Kia being developed by ex-Audi Peter Schreyer and ex-M Division Head Albert Biermann, the Stinger might turn out more Germanic in nature than current BMWs/Audis.
natnut2008 very true indeed
yeah just because the guy that runs the place decides to change every part and quality in a day or two? people leave companies and join others all the time, this does not mean much unless company is changed from the ground up, kia is hyundai and they use same shit the parts are interchangable you must be joking thinknig its more german

I.like Stinger already...

Doug loves a kick in the head, that's why until cars will give him a kick in the head equivalence he is going to rate very fast cars a low score in terms of acceleration. I wonder what score he would give to my 33 year old car. Probably -3.

It’s sad that the brand name is ultimately what makes a car have credibility to most people
All modern cars are decreasing in quality and getting made with more rubber and plastic that will deteriorate long term.

They should do what Hyundai did with the Genesis.

Nah, Kia should just stay on its feet. Genesis is a joke.

I've had my GT2 for about a month now. Favorite car I've ever owned so far. Beautiful, smooth, fast, comfortable - and just plain fun.
How much was out the door?
Do you play a lot of Aerosmith in it? 😎
Do you think Doug just walked into a dealership kicks the door open and says I'm ready to test the latest model
"Hi I AM THE DOUG DEMURO FROM AUTOTREDER DOT COME SLASH UNDERSTEER AND I AM HERE TO REVIEW ALL THE QUIRKS AND UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS VEHICLE."
Take it from me, a car enthusiast since birth, KIAs are great cars and I think they will continue to be for a long time.
krudmuphinstudioz yes
They are cheaply built, sorry.
I’m not a Kia fan, but oh boy this seems sweet
Alex Green who is a Kia fan 😂
I have to agree this car is great
But would you drop over 50 grand on a KIA ?????
Why not? They're usually very reliable, and it looks objectively good.
DustinCorvetteZr1 If it's worth it, why not? Compared to others in its class it's rather inexpensive. It has impressive build quality inside and out.

I'm gonna give Doug the benefit of the doubt that he knows what chrome is, given the number of vehicles he's driven and owned during his life. So I'm gonna assume it's some other sort of reflective material that looks like chrome but isn't.

Jesus people have such brand snobbery, it doesn't matter what badge the car has, if it's a good car, then it's a good car
If you're going to drop 50k on a fun, sporty car you're going to want something with a brand name you can brag about; showing it off to women/neighbors/coworkers is part of having an expensive car. It's not like when you're buying a crossover as a daily driver.

If Doug thinks that reflector (4:49) is a foot long, his wife's been lying to him...
