I did not drive the Kia stinger when I bought my Arteon but I have a friend who got a GT2 stinger and really likes it, I just got the VW because it was just a little bit more comfortable and the digital display both for the gauge cluster and infotainment are really intuitive and really nice and have aged well.
I cannot watch Doug anymore. He is just so annoying and provides very little actual car content and just stupid comments about cupholders and crap like that
Trunk lid on the Stinger was likely set to only open about half way. It can go all the way up if you change the settings. The reason is in case you park in a low ceiling place, the lid won't hit.
To avoid damaging your wheels and blowing out tires going over potholes, you must inflate the tires to 36 or 38 pounds. I find that these configurations handled the potholes much better and you almost never damage the tire or the wheels
Or you can just make sure that you've installed common sense wheels and tires on your car, because I'm actually the one in charge, not the car manufacturer.
I love the way you guys do car reviews and the production value is excellent. I even watch your reviews on cars I have no interest in because they are so good. I’m not sure how many people would actually cross-shop these two cars because, other than size and price, they have a different mission. I’m a fan of VAG products but lean towards their sportier offerings, but if I were forced to choose between these two, I’ll take the Stinger please.
Here in America, as a Kia Motors U.S. salesman, the Stinger GT2 is what James is driving. The color is called Ceramic Silver. The wheels are styled different than the ones we have here, and we don’t offer 19 inch wheels. Everything else is about the same actually, but it’s very cool to see the differences among the two countries and what they offer.
I love my stinger gt2 I have 14000 miles on it. It’s amazing. I did have a rotor problem. At 12thousand miles They covered it in full. It’s tight. Fast. And beautiful. I’d buy another one for sure. Don’t know what’s his problem but must be something.
I have a 2022 Stinger GT-Line AWD and look forward to driving it every day. For $42,000 you get a great car with all the bells and whistles. So far I have 12k trouble-free miles. My dealership in Stamford is professional and friendly. I had two Optima Turbos before this and they were both trouble free and all I ever did was change the oil. They never needed servicing.
This was a really well made video. I watch a lot of car videos and this was one of my favorites in a while, really enjoyable with all the information you want. Well Done.
I think the Buick regal (Opel insignia) Sportback would be a more legit competitor for the arteon. the Stinger is simply a class above, more a competitor for the A5/S5.
The Buick Regal's interior doesn't compare well with the Arteon, but it's much less expensive. The best comparison, feature for feature, would be the Arteon and the 4 cylinder Stinger, but that Stinger version would also be thousands of dollars less than the Arteon.
Sooo, that's what I'm suffering from, Kiarrhea... 🤣 But my Stinger still puts a smile on my face every single time I drive it. 😎 EDIT: at the very end of the video, Thomas says that the hatchback in the Stinger didn't work (@12:55). It didn't, simply because Thomas pulled up on it instead of letting it go up by itself. And the safety feature stops the electric motors as soon as something hits, or forces the hatch up or down. Same thing in the Arteon (@13:33).
Bought a 2021 Arteon SEL R-Line FWD a month ago. Just got back from a 3K mile trip and didn't see another one on the road but saw plenty of the Kia. German exclusivity. I had many people give good comments about the car.
Great review, good interplay with good humor--fascinating for me because I drive a car that's really right between these two. My 2007 Hyundai Azera has punch (for it's day, 263hp), but also all of the room and comfort of the Arteon. Not a hatch, but a huge trunk with fold down seats. High reliability--still concerned about VW electricals. Both cars look better than the Azera, but that's the march of time. And the 13 speaker 600-watt Infiniti isn't bad either. I expect to look into the 2.4 Stinger at some point--after I've put yet another 100k on the Azera. Daughter has a 2012 Kia Soul with 170k on it now, it's been humming since new. Azera is a steal because they depreciated as if they were bad old Hyundais. Not surprised at all to hear about the Stinger and the G70...
Up until now, I wasn't a fan of the Arteon's styling, but I gotta say... the Chili Red paint, 20-inch graphite turbine wheels, and integrated LED DRLs make the Arteon look quite striking. I like the two-tone leather with the light gray inserts as well. Nicely done, although the MSRP is too high. Luckily there are discounts to be had on these.
The disadvantages of the platform can be clearly seen on the luxury class VW "Arteon": The Arteon is actually a car made from the Passat and Golf. VW-MQB platform, Modular-Querbau box of a compact car. This also means transverse instead of longitudinally installed engines and 4 cylinders is already over.
This needs an update. The additional 32hp and DSG make a world of difference. I also found the drive modes on the new Arteon make a big difference in how it drives. While less sporty than the Stinger, the 2022 revisions gave the Arteon a real dose of sportiness.
The stinger had one last update too and its got a new infotainment system, bigger screen and its faster, which was the only issue with the stinger, they also got rid of the 4 cylinder and diesel versions, its also significantly cheaper now and you can get a used one for around 20k. In my opinion a superior car to the Passat reskin
Great review fellas as usual! lets go for 500K subscribers! Love the Stinger (minus all the fake vents), would love to see next Mazda 6 in this league. Sportback + inline SIX Skyactive X + AWD :)

The car is great as is, but with the before mentioned items, it just up the game nicely. You guys are great, lots of tech perspectives, good banter with smart humor, keep it up. You won a subscriber !!
i think you guys missed something important on the Arteon. If you go into settings, you can set a custom mode for the dynamic chassis control. There are several stops tighter then the custom mode. It does make a difference.
What?! That makes a world of a difference. I HIGHLY value my 13 Jetta bc of the control it has over the road. Handles even better, now that I built and installed some custom Bilstein struts 😊👌🏾
I just traded in my 2006 Jetta 2.0T with barely 200 kms on it and it was going through 9-10 liters of oil between oil changes!! 😭 8000km intervals. Was ALWAYS a massive oil consumer. Great fun to drive when new and buying an extended warranty saved me tons of $$. I’d never buy another VW/Audi product with the 2 liter motor again. VWs justifications for oil consumption from a turbo engine are totally ridiculous. There should have been a class action against VW for this awfully designed engine.
Former Forte SX and current GLI driver. What once was a genuine sentiment of pride in the quality and certainly *value* of Korean-made autos has taken off exponentially since the relative success (especially with enthusiasts) of the Stinger, Veloster N, etc.
I've got a 2018 Stinger 2.0L, and love it. But let's face it, the Kia badge screams "thrifty". And then I recently found Korean badges on eBay for under $70, for the hood, the rear, the four wheels, and the steering wheel. I get asked at least once a week, "What kind of car is that?" 😊 I'd be lying if I said that I didn't dig that.
@@kcgunner8378 yup if you tune this car you can def get way more out of it, I have the same engine in my gti since this exact engine is used across varies models across the vw,Audi, Porsche, etc cars they are more then reliable to mod, engine wise this car can output 400+ whp reliably and safely as far as transmisión goes the Arteon sadly doesn’t get the Loved DSG trans which handled abuse and shifts extremely fast but none the less the Arteon with proper work can be faster then the Kia. This goes both ways Kia’s are no joke and tuned properly can be pretty damn fast too.
Stinger is good looking different futuristic car until Arteon arrives ! That VW just look badass villain car from 70s but modern in its core ! I will chose Arteon in a heartbeat but in Stone Grey or in Jet Black with Navy blue interiors !
It's called emission regulations in the EU. Also, that TSI engine is by far not a reliable engine. Also, the interior is exxxactly the same as in a boring Passat. I haven't yet sat in a Stinger, but I give it the props for building a "halo car" that makes you reconsider it.
Well this isn't a boat comparison. Just kidding but i think the Stinger is just better for sportive driving on a curvy landroad. The Charger is a cruiser. But both are fucking heavy.
I own a Stinger GT2 but recently went to California and rented a Dodge Charger RT. Performance wise, the Stinger completely destroys the Charger. That said, the Charger exhaust sounds better and it handled pretty well. I am glad I rented it, had some fun with it on some winding roads. It did reaffirm my choice in the Stinger though. The interior of the Charger is crap compared to the Stinger.
My friend bought a used 2019 Stinger 4 cyl. for only 22K. With 255 HP it is plenty fast. No problems with acceleration or performance whatsoever. Plus, he got a great deal! Best investment he ever made.
I love the Stinger. The Harmon Kardon speakers make any song sound good. I saw a video a couple years ago where someone in the US bought a Stinger and ordered the Korean version of the middle console. It has a lid that covers the cupholders. Makes it look cleaner.
I remember the first brand new car i ever bought was a '12 Kia Optima SX Turbo with 274 HP. For 30 K new you got alot. Heated/Cooled seats, leather, Infinity Sound System, Navigation, Panaramic Sunroof/Moonroof, etc.. Plus you can with 10 year 100K warranty and 6 year warranty on powertrain So i can only how nice the Stinger GT is.
I recently drove one of those Optimas, a 2014 with 89 kms on it and I honestly thought it was going to fall apart in the road. It was NOT well bolted together. Rattled and shook all over the place.
This Kia with the new k5 front would be awesome. I think the stinger needs a more agresive front. vw repeats the same formula in theirs designs... Nothing new but .. it really works. Arteon looks amazing !
Alastors_minion I love it, not many people know what it is which I think is awesome . Turns a lot of heads and feels very luxurious with the red interior
The opening sketch is so hilarious. I miss these guys but they're staying safe in Canada. About the Stinger, I think I prefer this interior design to the Telluride/2021 Optima. They both have wonderful interiors but I think if they deleted the faux stitching and faux wood, as well as both are implemented, those two would be even more premium looking. The Stinger doesn't have that and looks fine without it. I l really like the Stinger's interior and hope they don't add faux wood, or even real wood, when it is redesigned.
The lane assist in the Arteon has 2 modes. when you put it in active mode it keeps you dead center in lane. And if you want to open the hatch with the key, you have to keep the button pressed for 3 sec...
Gulaschguenter I did keep it pressed. When you see me clicking it quickly it’s after I’d given up on holding it and was seeing if the car would even unlock, which it didn’t. I think the key was running out of battery
Lol at Kia rhea.... I first thought of Tesla and their zero emission branding yet their owners make up for it with constant emissions from their mouth and continuous self back patting.
As a Volvo driver in a family of Kia owners, I'll take the Arteon any day. It may not be as outright sporty or peppy as a Stinger, but the Germans/Swedes just *get it* when it comes to interior design and ergonomics. Our family has mostly Kia Optimas and Fortes, and they're nice cars for the price point, but they can't hold a candle to the European design logic. Also, Kia's dealerships/service centers are AWFUL. I switched to Volvo because A) they're reliable, safe and drive great and B) their dealerships are excellent--far better than any Kia dealership could dream of. Lastly, my best frind services her 2011 Golf (167,000 miles on it) at VW, and the dealership experience with is on par with Volvo and VW's own Audi.
I owned a 2015 Kia Optima for 6 years, 45k miles (it was stolen and found stripped 5 months ago and is still at the shop), I couldn’t wait this long without a car so I had to make the hard choice of purchasing a new one, and wanted to try out a different car brand (Kia’s are currently very popular to steal) and went with a 2022 Volkswagen Passat. I loved my Kia and never had problems with it, i took it to get serviced 3 weeks before it was stolen and they said I would have to get new tires and front brakes soon. I’ve had my Passat for 3 months and have loved it so far. Hoping it lasts me for a long time
At one point I was considering the Arteon. But at this price you could have the power of the Stinger or the reliability of the Toyota Avalon. the WV is a little more refined but at that price, I'd expect power between the stinger and the avalon. 50k for a VW that will fall apart in 5 years and take more then 6 sec for a 0 to 100 km is not gonna make it for me.
I think I've got that Kia disease...We're on our third Optima...Now driving the 2017 SXL with every option...Love the Turbo and Nappa leather and all the rest...Fast, comfy and so much tech! I guess I'm in it for...my pleasure!
The Stinger is a real car. Longitudinal layout, a ZF8 Speed transmission, everything else made nice enough. A real car, built to value. They even give you a great warranty and require you to change the oil in intervals that doesn't assume a 6 year vehicle life. You get all the big, important bits right and sacrifice some prestige. The Arteon is the answer to the question "Just how much you can move a compact car upmarket?". Using styling and something you could call patch engineering in which they put expensive engineering patches over the conceptual flaws of building a sports sedan on a compact platform. A car for people that don't know better and probably don't feel the difference. A car that pretends to be something it isn't.
I’d take Arteon any day knowing that it has the EA888 engine. I can just tune it to 350hp any day with doing nothing to the stock parts and enjoy the car
I do like the front end in the VW slightly more than the stinger, but as a car all around, the stinger gets my vote. I'm stuck between a genesis and a stinger right now. The subtle differences in both cars make it a very hard choice especially with the price tag being so similar
I have a Arteon R Line but here in the UK it got 280hp. Some std spec difference, but mine's in Tumeric, which suits it so well. Bought as ex demo with 1.6K on the clock, it was a bargain. It's my 30th consecutive car and one of the best. And I've had some nice stuff (XFs, 3.0 Velar, Golf R, 640 Gran Coupe etc).
Both are nice cars, this would be a hard choice but i really like the looks of the Arteon and feel it would be a great car to live with daily with better fuel economy, more comfort and more space.

The British army supervised the manufacture and German workers who needed jobs and food to eat built the cars and they sold them, using the money to buy the next round of parts and lineally financed the restart of the company this way… and step by step built VW into the powerhouse it is today…
So yes the beginnings were totally ties to Hitler and the Nazi Party but the rebirth has in very real terms been a German Success story with the initial help from and by the British Army, very entrepreneurial and old fashioned hard work…
Spoiler alert… I am a JEW… My family lost dozens to the theft and murder of the Holocaust. My Grandfather refused to buy a German car after the war and for the balance of his life.. but Germany today is not Germany of yesterday, Germany has basically donated a fleet of Dolphin Submarines to the State of Israel which are Israels secure second strike capability that effectively guarantees the survival of the Jewish State… My Mother - who was nine years old when the Nazis marched into her home town owns a Volkswagen… I own a Mercedes… Germany today is NOT Germany of yesterday… and neither is Volkswagen. Its beginnings are not its present or its future… If MY Mother can own and drive a VW… well then everyone can get past how the company was founded and by whom…

Amazing. You guys are incredible. Loved how you were obviously proud of the fact that you managed to get both cars to be the same price.
I think the Buick regal (Opel insignia) Sportback would be a more legit competitor for the arteon. the Stinger is simply a class above, more a competitor for the A5/S5.
Noooooo
The Buick Regal's interior doesn't compare well with the Arteon, but it's much less expensive. The best comparison, feature for feature, would be the Arteon and the 4 cylinder Stinger, but that Stinger version would also be thousands of dollars less than the Arteon.

2020 Arteon with 20k miles going for 20k on used market. Really good deal.
Dayum that arteon looks good... REALLY good...
The disadvantages of the platform can be clearly seen on the luxury class VW "Arteon":
The Arteon is actually a car made from the Passat and Golf. VW-MQB platform, Modular-Querbau box of a compact car. This also means transverse instead of longitudinally installed engines and 4 cylinders is already over.
Yes it does look amazing
Eric Rodrigues it really does but the price tag hurts
@@haraldschon7794 The RS3 rides on MQB. So what? Just a newer platform.
This needs an update. The additional 32hp and DSG make a world of difference. I also found the drive modes on the new Arteon make a big difference in how it drives. While less sporty than the Stinger, the 2022 revisions gave the Arteon a real dose of sportiness.
Backed 100%. As a big VW nerd I have driven a 2023 Arteon and it put my ass in the seat real quick, noticeably quicker than the outgoing automatic

The VW/Audi 2.0 TSi has had 2 redesigns of it's timing chain tensioner. It's still a time bomb. Lease European; Buy Japanese.
God that intro is tooo true about current Kia owners. Being badge snobs about not being a badge snob????
Still much better than VW owners "If you don't love my car, you must be a jealous loser!"
I get asked at least once a week, "What kind of car is that?" 😊
I'd be lying if I said that I didn't dig that.
I think the Kia snobbery is fueled or a consequent result of badge snobs shitting on Kia in general.
@@lmp9726 The only thing worse than the Kia badge is replacement 'K' badges. IMO those are all tacky AF, and the designs don't age well.

It is the gen 3 ea888 that's found in the golf gti/r. Believe it has the golf r is38 turbo
It's called emission regulations in the EU. Also, that TSI engine is by far not a reliable engine. Also, the interior is exxxactly the same as in a boring Passat.
I haven't yet sat in a Stinger, but I give it the props for building a "halo car" that makes you reconsider it.
The motor in this per APR the big VW/Audi tuning company said same motor and turbo as Golf R. So it's not the same motor.... Just same displacement.
The intros are the best. You guys are awesome!
I suggest Stinger versus Charger would be another interesting match.
Would be! But price for price a Scat Pack would eat this thing in performance and price.

Hoping it lasts me for a long time
"I'll take a A. Lange & Söhne" Oooo fancy.
Engineering Explained had the same wheel issue with his Tesla Model 3! The large wheel and low profile tire couldn't handle the pothole.

KingofPwnage23 yeah
