I came across this video when I was thinking about getting a Stinger GT. I wouldn't say this sealed the deal but it certainly helped to know that they aren't plagued with mechanical and auto-electrical gremlins. I bought a 2023 Stinger GT last month and have been stoked with it every day since. So for your part in my financial irresponsibility, thank you.
@@mohamowail1220 I don't know whether these would be deal breakers but my boot and/or the sun roof is a bit rattly going over speed bumps and such (there are simple fixes for these which I haven't been bothered to do, my last car was a Commodore so I'm not fussed by rattles), and I would really prefer if it saved me turning all the driver assist functions off (the lane departure at least has a dedicated button). Water also tends to pool a bit in the body work behind the doors and under the hatch, which will leave dirty deposits when it gets rained on and dries out, so get yourself a bottle of good waterless wash to spot clean these areas. Lastly, and I don't know whether this is worth mentioning but this is not a car for the fuel economy conscious. It has a small tank and should be run exclusively on 98. I say that because it is a high performance luxury car, going fast and being fuel efficient won't happen here. Knowing all this, I would still have bought this car if taken back in time. Then again, and again, and again. Oh and the factory bi-modal exhaust is a bit wimpy on note and volume for some (me) but I have a Borla catback coming this week to fix that. Otherwise I love it just as much as the day I got it. When you have a clear run to poke it in sport mode, it puts you back in your seat with a big smile on your face, where you can't, cruising around with the sunroof open and tunes cranked on the stereo will never fail to make you feel cool as fuck, and I'm an awkward, highly strung weirdo. It's also girlfriend approved, the heated seats have been her happy place all winter.
It is great to see someone reviewing used cars so comprehensively for the majority of us who rarely, if ever, buy a brand new car. Love the approach, humour and consumable nature of the Redriven reviews. After starting with this one I, not only have moved a Stinger to the top of my wanted list, but spent much of the weekend watching others on the channel. Thanks
Went through great lengths to find a black GT back in the winter of 2020. It has been so ridiculously fun and reliable. The Stinger community is small, but we are crazy about this vehicle... Great video and a unique perspective.
I love my stinger. Only thing is that my back gets murdered on long trips in it. Only recommendation is for better seating in future models. Outside that, it’s been my favorite car thus far that I’ve ever leased.
Yo is it really worth getting a GT if I don't plan on driving aggressively? I want one but for the same price I can get a newer year with half the miles - help me decide! Lol 😱
I am going to make it simple for you all. I am a Stinger GT owner i actually lost my 6mnth old 1st 1 in the recent floods here in Queensland. I didn't hesitate and re-ordered another 1 brand new as mine was written off. I have worked for a mechanic for nearly 2 decades now and i can tell you for a fact that Kia is 1 of the best vehicles on the road now. The best are Camry, Hyundi I30 and the Kia's. As hyundi own's Kia is not surprising that quality of both now is thru the roof. The Korean car makers are hitting their stride like the Japanese makers did in the early 90's. I have had service from Kia that is second to none, was a easy decision to make as 1 of our 28 year vet mechanic bought the 2019 Stinger. No better car add then a mechanic personally buying 1 for himself convinced me and i could not be happier. My new gets car here in 4 weeks i cannot wait, i did wait for the 2021 model initially because of the changes compaired to the 2019 model not the same car. I recommend to anyone if you are going to do it get the Twin Turbo save ur pennies. I went for thee top of the range full GT TT but a GT line is just as good as you have all that matters up front. The GT tho is a deferent experience has everything u could want in any up market euro pos. Now for those with a bit more cash, then the G70 is for you Kia has a luxury range now like lexus is for toyota and the G70 is the Stinger on steroids. It has a slightly bigger 6 3.5ltr with the twin turbo's. It will blow any top range merc or beemer off the road with its quality and power and is 1/2 the price. I priced up the new BMW Grand Coupe which released at the same price as the Stinger to match the Stinger performance wise the crap i had to add to that beemer doubled the price. IMO all those cars you are buying a badge and nothing more they are shit vehicles.
I can confirm that BMW (and Benz) are not what they are marketed as. I've actually been to the factory that does some of their critical parts, and after talking to the tech person in there, I now understand why the Germans call BMW Bayrischer Mist Wagen: "Bavarian Manure car". Unfortunately, people buy into the marketing, where BMW and Benz spends oodles of money. Granted they ride nice and some look nice, especially the interior. But luxury should mean not having to break down and not being able to drive your car. As for the Hyundai group, they're trying. They just need to get past the engine fires for some of their models.
@@szotakandrei Oh i did not know that mate. Well that sux, me personally i could not justify going the the G70 from the Stinger but that's a shame their service network is shit over there. I have nothing but praise for Kia servicing here. Even tho i can take it to work and service it there for about 100 bucks less then what it costs me at Kia but i get 12 months roadside assistance added every service. So for the 7 years of warranty i get free roadside assistance here its RACQ after every service. Now if i paid for RACQ myself and serviced the car at work it would cost me more then just going thru Kia as their service price on the Stinger is capped at $500 bucks and $800 for Major's which is your 40,000km and 80 i think.
Of all the cars I've owned, I would never have predicted that it'd be a KIA that appreciated in value. I love my Stinger. Looks great, goes fast and is superbly practical. And this is before you even consider how well it responds to both performance and cosmetic mods.
As a 2020 GT1 owner, I've logged 33,000miles, have enjoyed the car tremendously and have not needed to make a warranty claim! There are little first-world issues that I hope would be addressed (like heated windshield washer towers), but I am proud to be a Stinger owner and relieved that I no longer need the expense of my prior BMW 135is.
@@rcast3763 not with them yet, i’m sure they’ll change as they get older, but it’s the 4 cylinders that get carbon build up opted times, i recommend a fuel induction cleaning every 20k though!
I’ve had the chance to drive a Stinger GT a few times in a… “spirited” manner. Have to say that it gives the thrills of cars worth a lot more (I have driven a few high end cars) and handles amazingly.
Proud owner of a KIA Stinger GT, so called top model of KIA (please go to last sentence if you want the short version). I have owned may new cars in my life and had never had so many issues with any of them but when I had issues I was serviced properly and got a courtesy car for the time of not having a brand new car. I understand that 3 year I would not class as brand new but anything between 1 and 2 year and less than 50,000 km I would. 7 year warranty is only as good as the service they provide and what does it help if I cannot drive my car because it is in repair because of manufacturing faults. A few things I came across from brand new, paint chips like glass. The smallest stone will leave a damage (compared to my previous car which I had for more than 4 years), in 2 month I had more stone chips than in 4 years with my Mazda 3 SPS25. Nothing changed in the way I use the car or where I drive it.
@@mroddydawg We have the Stinger GT and Cerato GT (Top of line forte in Australia) The forte its a nice car though i do think it rides a bit rough and has a bit to much tyre noise you get plenty of kit in the car.
Dude. i own a stinger too and they're good cars but if you think they handle great, you're either full of shit or have no idea what good handling is. it handles like total crap. the shifting sucks big time and is clunky as hell, literally no sound without mods, curves are not your friend either. to me it doesn' t matter because i bought it because i wanted something cheap that looks cool, has some speed, 4wd, has room and all amenities and i delivers a lot on these fronts. but don't ever compare it to something like an M car or even a 350.
I love my 2018 AWD Kia Stinger GT Limited (Canadian version). Bought it in 2019 slightly used from a local Kia dealer for a good price and never regretted it. Powerful, very well equipped, reliable, comfortable, not too bad on fuel (in ECO mode 8.8L/100 km on the highway), this is a hidden gem from Kia.
This is super useful info for me. I have a 2019 Hyundai Tucson 4x4 with the 1.6 TGDI and the best I ever saw was 7.7L/100km and typically get 8.5 on longer trips. If I can keep the stinger around 9.5 on long trips is perfect.
Lose the AWD and find out what really good steering feels like. I traded down from an AWD GT1 to a RWD four cylinder. Doesn't hit like a hammer anymore, but a joy to drive losing 400 pounds over the front axle.
@@AlainHubert I've owned both AWD and RWD and the RWD is my preferred car. The 50-50 weight ratio doesn't mean as much to me as the steering communication by lightening the front end. Plus, the 225 front tires are there to ensure understeer which is safer for the typical driver. Out of the box, the car is dynamite, but it can still be improved for drivers who can drive are car that is far more neutral than stock.
I have a 2018 Stinger GT2 RWD, Snow White Pearl with almost 60K miles. I love this automobile! To put this in perspective, I sold my 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo, and bought the Stinger! The only issue I’ve had was the vibration with the brakes. I’m going to upgrade the rotors and pads as suggested in your article. Thanks. I highly recommend the Stringer!
It still work like new engine? Have you done the valve clearence maintenance on it? I just bought a g70 3.3t with 43k on it and i was wondering the riability at long term
How do you upgrade Brembo brakes? The brake vibration is caused by crud build-up on the pads. Try three crash-stops from 100kph in succession. Problem solved without the unnecessary expense.
I’ve had my stinger GT for 2 years now. I bought it used for about $30k USD before things went crazy. I’ve quadrupled the miles and it’s still selling for 25% more than I bought it for. I’ve had no issues and minimal complaints. Many of which were addressed in this video and even taught me how to fix them! Thank you! 100% true that those who bought new were older. I’m hard pressed to find others as young as me with the car. I’m confident recommending a used one to anyone who is interested. If you do your research and keep an eye out for signs of abuse then you’ll end up with a car you’ll love.
@@nr8626 Nothing mechanical that I didn’t cause myself through modifications. The accent trim that runs along the roof needs to be refinished. I believe there’s a recall for that. Parking sensors are a little too sensitive, but they’re easy to silence. Smooth sailing otherwise!
This was a very helpful review. I've been working hard to buy 1 of these, and it's nice to know it (probably) won't be a bad choice. I've owned 2 Kia's, and I want the Stinger to be my 3rd.
Excellent review. I have a 2020Nightsky edition and love it. In my humble opinion, when all things considered such as price, standard equipment, warranty, performance and sheer driving experience, I consider my black beauty the best value for money car on the road. Just drove from Melbourne to Sydney and got 7.4 liters per 100kms which is quite good for a twin turbo 3.3 liter car. Easily the best car I have owned and I have had some rippers in the past.
Had the pleasure of owning a used Kia Stinger GT a few years back and it is probably my favorite car yet. They look good inside and out, pack a punch, and have a lot of tuning potential. I drive a 4-Series BMW now and would not hesitate to go back to a Stinger if I could. BMW can't compete with a Kia Stinger. Kia offers a better warranty and the Stinger GT is a better deal.
I have a 2020 Stinger GT and it is a fantastic car. I have done several long trips (1000km's+) and you can tell it was designed to do this. The seats are comfortable, it drives incredibly well and even after a 12hr drive I don't feel worn out. If anybody is considering a car along these lines I would highly recommend you get one ASAP!
I work for in a pre delivery department for a dealership that includes Kia and we have to road test Kias for 6km. I've had the chance to road test a few of the new 2022 GT models and can say they are awesome and far superior to any euro competitor.
M340i starts at 56,000 far superior than this vehicle with 382hp and 369 lbs torque with interior that isn’t cheap not even close .Trust me I’ve been in this Kia and though it’s a nice vehicle it’s not messing with the m340i which would be closer to comp than the M3.The M3 and this vehicle are not even on the same playing field
I've owned my Stinger gt for 4 years now and it's been an awesome car. The thing I find amazing is the fuel economy it can achieve for a big car with the power it has. Done a family trip 2500km from country South Australia to Sydney and back (including some laps around Bathurst). It averaged 8.3l/100km for the whole journey.
Can confirm. You'd have to work hard to hit 10.2 l/100km. My long term is 9.3 with mixed driving, and on trips has dropped below 8. I have the Canadian GT Limited AWD with 3.3TT.
Fantastic review and agree with all that was said. I bought one and have not regreted it. Best car out of a large stable of European an Japanese performance cars I have owned. Just wish Kia would keep making them...
Had ours for 18 months, done 34000k's and absolutely love it! First non V8 I have owned in decades; was hesitant at first, but not any more. Could be considered what Holden might have done as a new Torana? What I don't love is their warranty department. Have a paint issue, and ultimately had that rejected, even with all the evidence provided. Then had the engine undercover panel assembly come adrift/damaged when passing a truck on a highway, and that claim has been denied. Promised a phone call 7 days ago....still waiting.
I'm doing the same too right now. I really want a 2022 Scorpion edition, but if it's still too expensive, then I'll settle for a used GT2. Prefer grey (ceramic silver), but black and white are okay too as long as it has the red leather interior.
I drive a "modded" 2013 Acura TL SHawd 3.7L V6. Loads of power & fun but... big premium gas costs like these Stingers - Start saving for a Japanese 320HP+ PHEV sedan like me.(1-2 years) Be patient.. they're coming.
Thank you for this great report, been waiting for the Singer, another confirmation of the great value this car is. It's unfortunate the prices have skyrocketed.
Great review after owning a couple of Range Rovers I bought my wife a stinger, she loves it so do I In sports mode it is a rocket and handling is very good for a RWD car it goes where you point it Great job KIA 👍
@@Optimiser113 this is true, range rovers are obviously known to be driven by poor people so of course a kia would suit them. Broke ass celebrities and business owners drive range rovers. So stupid to think a range rover is some kind of a standard for luxury.
I purchased a Kia Stinger a few months ago. I had a small accident and my car is still at the shop waiting for parts that Kia does not have for their own cars. I just got off a call with the incompetent representative telling me there is nothing they can do and my part will arrive in MARCH! My brand new KIA Stinger luxury car is going to sit for 6 months because KIA does not have fenders???? I will NEVER buy KIA again!!! Disgrace!
I love my stinger gt2 (top trim) best car I have ever owned. I know Kia still has a negative stigma about them from the 90s but those days are long gone. Kia is one of the best brands out there now and the stinger is best in its class
As a fellow drummer.. I love the storage of this package.. I dont want to drive a van , wagon or SUV.. this body style is the best compromise while still being stylish, cool with a touch of sporty.. all very important to drummer's
Thank you for this review! I've been searching for credible reviews on used models. I'm taking delivery of a Snow White Pearl GT2 AWD Monday. Even here in the States, they're still somewhat rare in this class, especially the higher trims.
Bought a used 19 RWD GT. About 45,000 miles later almost nothing needed fixing. The top Roof rails needed repainting and Kia covered it under warranty. I am starting to get the brake shimmy. Altogether very pleased - daily driver, super fun. Lots of interior room. I came from a 15 Genesis V8 and the performance is great. Bit stiffer ride but you get used to it. Going through tires a little quickly and I am not a burn out guy but I’m stretching for things to tell you. It’s been a great car for me.
Dear AK. I've watched all your "redriven" clips and I love the overviews you give ... thank you. I have been involved in the industry for many years, and in particular the detailing of cars. You often mention leather in cars becoming shiny on the steering wheels and seats as being gross and I have no doubt they are. My point is ... any cheap leather cleaner/conditioner usually fixes the "grossness" in less than two minutes. I'm not sure it's a valid part of evaluating a cars interior when it's probably the main thing that never gets properly cleaned in the cars lifetime. I'm sure many drivers eat greasy things too, when at the wheel! That's all ... keep up the good work ... Simon
Thanks so so much Simon and that's an awesome insight. We're actually thinking of doing some cleaning and detailing tips videos and would love to get your thoughts and expertise, what is the best way to contact you? - AK
I bought a GT1 brand new in 2019. It honestly was a great car. The low end torque they make has them punching above their class. From a stoplight it’s a rocket ship. Also very nice inside with all of the bells and whistles offered in more expensive cars. I was able to get nearly 30mpg on longer road trips and with some bolt ons, e30, and a tune it can keep up with most cars you run into on the highway. Also nobody seems to know what they are so you’ll constantly get asked about it. I needed a truck for work so I ended up selling it 40k miles later for only 6k less than I bought it off the showroom floor. If you’re looking at buying a used one I would suggest 19-21 models and to keep in mind the ones that came with all season tires from the factory are electronically limited to 130mph. Also some people complain about a “sun roof rattle” and rotors that go bad very quickly. I never had those problems in mine. Also the side skirts are notorious for getting damage when being put on a life so make sure you ALWAYS take before pictures when dropping your car off for service. Definitely worth the price point.
@@oimfc37 I wouldn’t say anything is wrong with a 2018 model I just don’t buy the first year model of a car. Let a year go by so they can work the kinks out. But some 2018s had bad batches of paint that fades especially the yellow color
I own a Stinger 2.2 Turbo Diesel here in the UK and it's quite simply one of the best cars I've owned (and I owned many) Your review is probably the best I've ever seen and funniest too, cheers mate 👍👌
A friend of mine, who manages a KIA dealership in Texas, recently bought a bright orange used Stinger. Although we both laughed at that being his mid-life-crisis car, he absolutely loves it. The Stingers apparently don't have a lot of the mechanical and quality problems that plague so many KIA sold in the states. Having driven it myself, I can attest it's a really fun car to drive. As a 60 year old man, my chief complaint would be it's a bit on the cramped side, but then again, the Stinger is a true sports sedan, not a family sedan.
Just came across this video. I have a 2021 I bought new in Thunder Gray. I'm in Canada and totally love the all wheel drive, especially the 80 - 20 rear wheel emphasis. I've had 4 Porsche's, 2 Audi's, 2 Escalates, a DB 7 etc, etc. This is the best car I've ever owned! I have full Indy lite and Formula 3 certification and know how to drive. But the funnest thing of all is when my beautiful niece drives it and the looks she gets! Somehow, a ton of people know just how powerful and reliable this car is. Exactly like my niece!!
I traded in my challenger for a base premium Stinger back in december and haven't looked back. Car feels great to drive, very comfortable, and i bought mine at a certified KIA dealer so it came with the remaining 10 year/100k miles warranty. Got mine around 32k miles at about 32k USD.
Just ordered my '22 Stinger so I can get the final petrol model. I'll be selling my '20 model when I get it in 6-8 months. It's been the absolute perfect drivers car, particularly for long-distance runs (I was commuting from Sydney to Canberra for 6 months and it was a dream drive every time; even the run up to the Gold Coast wasn't too tiring). Best car on the market under $100k IMO
Great Review! Loved every second and the information that you obtained very accurate! Kia made a unbelievably great car and the support in the community is unreal. 👍 Would be great to get a review of the 22 stinger GT...
Nice work, great review! I had one of the first in the country (Sep 2017) for just over 4 years, awesome car - upsized due to 3 teenagers now and wanting to do road-trips etc. I certainly didn't get the kind of $ number you were suggesting for resale In terms of issues, yeah I had the rear boot issue, easily resolved. Good tip re: forums info - I had diff noise early on (sharp turning when cold from driveway) and from the forum I sourced a Tech Service Bulletin that I used to (hello! wake up!!) get the local dealer to learn about and resolve. Diff oil change reqd, different viscosity. Reqd a lot of effort to make it happen (early adopters, you can thank me later!) I suspect the diff failures mentioned would 100% be related to this. Finally, the brake shudder issue referred to ... I don't think this issue actually comes out of 'spirited driving' - I never took my car to a track (previous vehicles yes, so I 100% understand the comment) and my car never experienced any serious downhill twisties etc. So I do think there's a brake issue with the set up. It came and went with relatively gentle driving.
New cars have never been cheap, but nowadays they cost an insane amount for what they offer, so I am very happy there are channels like this that review cars exactly how I would if searching for an used car, but who also do not focus on drag races and weird challenges but what actually matters in also a great and entertaining way. I've said it before but cannot say it enough, you guys are doing a hella good job!
Can you explain what you mean here? I'm thinking of owning one. Is it the acceleration? Smooth acceleration and easy to make tight turns? Sorry I'm quite new with cars.
@@addisonchan5994 put it in eco or comfort mode, everything is smooth ask silk. Put it in sport mode, you'll feel the bumps and the acceleration will make you smile. Thank you so much for this amazingly detailed video and making my decision to buy the Kia stinger which I have been obsessed with since they first hit the USA so much easier I can’t wait to get mine
These cars are amazing. The performance, looks and interior are amazing. I purchased mine late 2023. Coming from a 2012 audi s7 tuned with 457kw at all 4 wheels. This is car is pretty fast and grips well stock. Its no where near as fast as my old audi but it does 0 - 100 in 4.8 seconds and handles the corners so well. The stinger is so impressive, Kia has come a long way.
I don’t know how it is in Australia but my only argument against buying a Stinger are the dealerships…they are completely unacceptable. Last month I traded my 2021 stinger GT1 with 30,000 miles for 2018 Porsche Panamera with 36,000 miles. The Porsche was twice the money so I expected it to be twice as good, and it’s not even close to being that. The sound system is better in the stinger(I have the Bose in the Porsche)and it actually seems to have held up a little better after 30,000 miles. The dealership experience however makes the Porsche almost worth the money by itself. I used to go to a Kia dealership and I swear the employees were actively trying to avoid me. Needless to say Porsche dealers make you feel like a king.
Yep. My kia dealer was the worst experience I've ever had at a dealer. Honestly, the best dealer experience of any (and I've had quite a few) was Mini Cooper.
@@brookepierson6536 a newbie car buyer here in Australia - can I just go in any car dealership and test drive without finalising a deal? Like testing cars without buying.
@@addisonchan5994I’m in the US and we can easily test drive without any need to buy. We just have to explicitly state for them not to run a credit check because they always try and do that. Not sure how it is in Australia though.
Such a beautiful car! Theres really not a lot of cars that pull off a great look all around. From side view, this car has an Aston Martin shape, the rear (my fav) reminds me of a Maseratti, and from the front, the race car look. I had one of these follow my Mercedez CLA shooting brake and I was just so intrigued by the look, I couldnt stop staring. Im looking to exchange my Merc for one of these and I dont mind the Kia badge. They make some great cars and dont mind backing the underdog once in a while.
The new voiceover is just nice and like retro! Great video! Always wanted to have this car, sporty, practical, reliable, and won’t break the bank on repairs.
I know the vid is a year old, but I once got a rental and ended getting a Kia Stinger. It was a GT. Such a fun car to drive. I was actually surprised at how fun it was.
From the UK and I have got the GT version from new now 18 months old and I love it. I get told EVERY day what a great looking car it is. No problems whatsoever and very pleased with it. Getting 22mpg in town and upto 38mpg on motorway. A GREAT CAR.
I absolutely love you guys!! I asked for this review a while back and it's finally here! Great video and I definitely have this car at the top of my buy list! Thanks guys! I wish the G70 had similar cargo and passenger space because it's now dethroned from my number 1.
I enjoyed the 90s radio edit, brings back memories, l have not listened to radio since about 2005 so that was a proper walk down memory lane, thanks for that.
The wheel arch mesh had dropped as it had not been fitted correctly. Installed correctly they wont move at all and last forever. They are $30 a set made from stainless steel only sold in Australia , easy to fit.
I have always owned big powerful Holdens (*sigh* my first car was a HQ Monaro - loved that beast). Due to the demise of Holden I just recently got my 2022 KIA Stinger and it has met all my expectations and then some. I have always been a fan of big rear wheel drive powerful cars and I am currently happy as a pig in mud with the Stinger.
Been driving a couple of v8 Holden Calais for almost 20 years. Not a sell out to change to Kia, because Holden sold out to a terrible European substitute, and called it a Commodore - how dare they? After a load of research, including this great review, the Stinger is the best value true GT, with long journeys and great power for the driving we do in Australia. Sad that it is being discontinued, glad that I got my order in for a Stinger GT. Can’t wait for it to arrive in April.
What a wonderful video! Love it. Deserves the follow and lik e :) I own a 22 Kia stinger here in Canada already driven 25k and let me tell you it is a wonderful car for the price! never gets boring! Love it! Kia Nailed it!
Can you do a review on the Lexus gs350 that was recommended for family cars under $30k?? What about a comparison between all these recent rear wheel drive cars seeing you can’t buy them new anymore??
We love our stinger. We have a 2020 US version and have driven it 24,000 miles. The only expense other than maintenance was an alignment after hitting a large pothole and popping a tire. I was a bit nervous about a KIA, but so far, so good. Not one defect, mechanical or visual. The only drawback is frequent visits to gas up. And when you gas up, be prepared for inquisitors. People are drawn to it and want to ask questions.
Another awesome video...with everything you need to know and some brilliant Aussie humour to top it off.you guys are legends!! Keep the videos coming ❤️
Nice video! I purchased a new 2018 HiChroma Red Stinger GT1 in the U.S. and love it to this day! The most fun car I've ever owned. It has never been in an accident and I just reached 40K miles. I don't drive aggressively, but the steering rack has been replaced twice and still makes a slight groaning sound only when turning right at low speeds. The paint is a weak link. It pits easily, even on the sides, with regular highway driving despite parking in a garage and regular washing and occasional waxing. The rain gutters' paint and sealant are crackling, which is a complaint I've heard from other Stinger owners. I have never experienced that on any other cars in 50 years of driving. Kia dealerships are LOW rent and just scored dead last in J.D. Power's rankings of 16 mass-market brands. Other than that, love it:)
I finally picked up a 2019 GT in Jan 23. Amazing car, excellent performance and very comfortable particularly on longer trips. I had the brake shudder issue which was resolved with aftermarket pads, the stock rotors were ok to keep. I've had quite a few 'badge snob' mates take a seat in it and they came away impressed. And the Ceramic Grey paint with Red leather is a beautiful combo. As you say, you go out with a budget of 50k AUD, what else can you get?
I use my 2019 GT1 as a daily commuter from Sarasota to St Pete and absolutely love my Stinger. I purchased it with 9k miles off a two year lease and have 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty. It has been super reliable and fun to drive. I have a great Service Rep that keeps it tip top and have had it serviced regularly; new plugs at 40k and fresh Michelin tires every 25-30k miles. It’s a little expensive to maintain but is a performance car so that is expected. Now have just hit 70k miles and it looks and runs like new.
I just traded my Stinger in. One of the first models from 2018. Amazing car and nothing went wrong with it at all in all the years I owned it. The only reason I traded it was that it wasn't an electric vehicle, so I ended up getting an Ioniq 5. If there had been a Stinger EV i would have gone with that instantly. It absolutely lives up to the GT badge. It's a supreme Grand Touring vehicle. Took road trips, 4 adults and luggage easily, comfortably, and even still fun to drive while loaded up.
I had a GT1 RWD. It was a pretty good car overall. The brake pads were replaced due to the shimmy while braking. The rotors were recently replaced at 31,000 miles. There were creaks but I would put silicone on the seals and the creaks would go away. I ultimately sold the Stinger to get an IS500. I would have kept it but had no place to park it
Love my 21 GT1 Black. Had the badges removed, and wheels powder coated. People are impressed but can't believe it's a Kia. Had to have the Rotors Changed under warranty shaking steering wheel when braking. Fine now. Very impressive handling. Wish the made a larger fuel tank.
I drive a 2011 Maybach V12 6.0 57s and cannot stop gawking when I see a Stinger - the design harkens back to the 1960s two door GT cars of yesteryear ❤
Had my GT Stinger for 4 and a half years. Done 83,000kms. Had it tuned. 274kw at the wheels and 880nm of torque. My god it's fast now 😎 It's still as reliable as the day I bought it. Luv this car 😍
That’s so sick for something that can be such a sleeper car as they aren’t normally loud! Bro 880nm is massive, I have a 2016 HSV GTS with 560kw and it has 1100nm with a harrop package. Respect to the Stinger man, I tip my hat for sure!
Bought an 18 plate stinger after i finished university - love it. Excited to get in every time. Had it two years now and i've never found a long drive boring and i get plenty of questions about it too.

I own a 2018 GT2 black with red leather interior with all the upgrades have only 22k miles on it and it's worth more than what I bought it for!!!! Love this car!
I think if you bought one of these and kept it in storage for 10 years you'd have an asset that has accumulated in value better than any stock index. Much like JDM sportscars like the Supra, Skyline, Rx7... This car will become legendary over time.
@@lclnbm Dude, Kia and Hyundai are in the top 5 most reliable brands in the US and the EU for years now. KIA is the only car manufacturer that offers a 7 year warranty as standard and the Kia/Hyundai/Genesis conglomerate had 4 models with rewards for the most reliable car in their segment in the J.D reliability index for 2021. Total results show that Kia trails only Lexus and Porsche, both of which are premium brands.
@@lclnbm Don't know why they use direct injection. Really limits on your total potential. Just get an older EFI car with High or low impedance injectors. Same problem with the new Type R and SI, unless you get a piggyback manifold you are stuck with less flexible power margins. DI is good on old 12 valve Cummins and other diesels, seems like a limiter on gas. The N54 is a bit of an outlier, flows pretty good when bumped up however you get the ol German fragility. Eh Ill stick with old Hondas. Cool looking KIA but not gonna be some gold nugget in the future, kinda big car too. Buddy of mine worked at KIA(US) in service, she said the techs are total scrubs who overlook everything. So that warranty dont mean squat(as almost all warranty's). Maybe piggyback manifold systems will get cheaper and these rides will see a competitive surge, or maybe not.
2018 GT2 AWD here with 30k miles. No issues except the brakes. Replaced them with cquence discs and pads. Having the recall done in a couple weeks. Fingers crossed they don't mess up a good thing.
@@rachelgreen1368 Probably the being cheaper than the comparable german cars these kinds of halo cars often do not make a profit(when factoring in development cost, although it is usually because they fail), but are more to help with the brands perception(like kia being seen as the bad kind of cheap)
Your closing remarks said it all. Does the car have flaws? Yes. Is it still a Kia? Kinda. But there's nothing else on the market that checks all the boxes that the Stinger does.
Yeap, I've got one, love it. For me this is a good review, catches all the important points, mine does have a bit of "cabin creak" which seems to emanate from around the sunroof area, seems to do this more on the hotter days. I get 9.2 l/100, I don't drive like the Stig, just comfortably in eco mode for the majority of the time, that's quick enough. Mine has got a bit of brake shudder under heavy braking, going to get Kia to look at this at the next service. No issues with the exterior trim tarnishing. A few Kia members have now mentioned earth points coming loose with some disastrous consequences, something to be mindful of I suspect, the ones inside on the rear wheel arch (somewhere). Usual quality of report, good job, cheers.
I recently bought a used 2018 GT2 at 71k miles. I've been really worried about the reliability because a lot of people tend to talk negatively about Kia's, but this video helped me feel more at ease and made me fall in love with it all over again. Great video, very informative, 10/10!
It is reliable when under 80000miles. And problems will start coming up after that just like most of the European cars. If you live in Asia or Europe your car will never reach 80000miles/100000km bench mark in 10 years so the Korean and European brands are popular and reliable. In the US a car can easily reach 80000miles in 2 or 3 years, so reliability in the US becomes a different story.
Thankyou for this review. I've often thought about what I will replace my current car with eventually, and had somehow forgotten about the Stinger. This just reinforced my desire for one.
I have a 2022 3.3 TT GT2 AWD which I bought brand-new a year ago, and absolutely love the car! It is my daily driver and has more than enough power, the transmission shifts great, Brembo's excellent and the handling is sublime. This is a Gran Turismo and not a sport car, but I'd definitely categorize it as a sport sedan. Most everyone thinks it is just drop-dead gorgeous - what a beauty! If buying used... I would be very careful buying one of these used, however. People mod them by putting piggy-backs on it and running the boost and timing up. Right now there is a guy on one of the forums who is getting his short-block replaced, and he bought it used, and suspects 'foul play' regarding mods by the previous owner. Moral of the story, make sure to get the car checked completely before buying including getting a compression and leakdown test to ensure the engine is good.
My 2019 Stinger GT2 has been trouble free and a joy to drive and own for the most part. No squeaks and rattles. My 19 inch wheels were replaced with a square 255/35/r20s setup. Comfortable, well specced, practical and still turning heads in 2022. It replaced my 2015 Lexus IS350. No regrets.
I got a cerato GT, needed a new car and really wanted the stinger but just couldn't bring myself to go that far in on a new car, dealership called them the baby stingers and never had an issue, driven the uncles stinger a few times and always regret not getting one haha
I’m thinking of getting one, are there any cons so far ?
I love the styling of Genesis but you can't get them in Europe and the service network is pretty shit 🥲

Dude. i own a stinger too and they're good cars but if you think they handle great, you're either full of shit or have no idea what good handling is. it handles like total crap. the shifting sucks big time and is clunky as hell, literally no sound without mods, curves are not your friend either. to me it doesn' t matter because i bought it because i wanted something cheap that looks cool, has some speed, 4wd, has room and all amenities and i delivers a lot on these fronts. but don't ever compare it to something like an M car or even a 350.
I love my 2018 AWD Kia Stinger GT Limited (Canadian version). Bought it in 2019 slightly used from a local Kia dealer for a good price and never regretted it.

Then you'll lose the perfect balance of this car. Albert Biermann worked very hard on the Stinger's handling, and he succeeded.

Great Review !! As a stinger owner it is awesome you guys did your homework and did research on what owners say about this car !
Is the LSD is really an issue especially the RWD since Australia only got that?
I test drove a Limited once.
The price didn't allow me to buy it.
I have a black 2019 stinger gt2. Best car ive ever owned in so many ways, absolutely love it 2 years in. Bought mine used with 12,000
Bought a 2019 GTS AWD with 8k miles on it. It drives like a much more expensive car. I love it.
u in aus?
Bought a used 19 RWD GT. About 45,000 miles later almost nothing needed fixing. The top
Roof rails needed repainting and Kia covered it under warranty.
I bought a demo Stinger GT TT 3.3. A fantastic car. I use unleaded and on a run with mainly 110km speed, I usually get about 7.8 ltr per 100 km.
- AK
@@ReDriven I'm happy to have a chat on FB messenger, or you can message me and I'll flick you my mobile ... Cheers Simon
I have a 2020 stingergt2 167 mph until I got nervous.
@@donbaird3826 yeah if you have 19” wheels you aren’t limited
whats wrong with 2018?
You are lucky to get all wheel drive. In Australia I'm sure we only get rear wheel drive. Still drives really good
I traded in my challenger for a base premium Stinger back in december and haven't looked back. Car feels great to drive, very comfortable, and i bought mine at a certified KIA dealer so it came with the remaining 10 year/100k miles warranty. Got mine around 32k miles at about 32k USD.
What year and package?
@@supercheese7033 2018 premium package.
First car review from this gent I have viewed. What a boss at his craft he is. Fucken 11/10.
Nice work, great review!
I had one of the first in the country (Sep 2017) for just over 4 years, awesome car - upsized due to 3 teenagers now and wanting to do road-trips etc. I certainly didn't get the kind of $ number you were suggesting for resale
In terms of issues, yeah I had the rear boot issue, easily resolved.
I own a 2018 GT and have to say it makes me find excuses to go for a drive. Every other car I've owned was for transport, this one is for fun :)
same. I have to drive it as if I'm walking the dog! lol
Great way of puttin' it.

OMG I remember first time I saw this car. I just waited for any German badge at the front. The shock of my life to see it was a Kia.
Really nice cars. I drove one last year and was very impressed.
No way . They amount of dedication you guys have put in this video is brilliant.. instant subscriber .
Thanks so much mate! Welcome 🙂
I work as a parts manager for kia. They are great vehicles. I rarely ever see them come into the shop for anything. Mainly just tires and maintenance.
Yah, every car dealership should give the buyer and owner all respect when walking in the companies premises
Yep. My kia dealer was the worst experience I've ever had at a dealer. Honestly, the best dealer experience of any (and I've had quite a few) was Mini Cooper.

Do it. You won't be disappointed.
The new voiceover is just nice and like retro! Great video! Always wanted to have this car, sporty, practical, reliable, and won’t break the bank on repairs.
Thank you mate!
I know the vid is a year old, but I once got a rental and ended getting a Kia Stinger. It was a GT. Such a fun car to drive. I was actually surprised at how fun it was.
I'd like to know what you mean by fun 😂 I'm intrigued.
I am on my 3rd Stinger. Absolutely love the things. Maxed out GT2s.
Is the LSD really an issue as noted by Jim?
The wheel arch mesh had dropped as it had not been fitted correctly. Installed correctly they wont move at all and last forever. They are $30 a set made from stainless steel only sold in Australia , easy to fit.
Even spruiking your wares here😁
I have always owned big powerful Holdens (*sigh* my first car was a HQ Monaro - loved that beast). Due to the demise of Holden I just recently got my 2022 KIA Stinger and it has met all my expectations and then some. I have always been a fan of big rear wheel drive powerful cars and I am currently happy as a pig in mud with the Stinger.
Sellout bro. Korean? Lol
No one can do a huge disappointment like a GM. They wrote the book on shitting the bed on second date night.

Is the brake shudder issue specific to a particular model ?
Any fitted with the Brembo brakes@@TheSQL-Lover

I think if you bought one of these and kept it in storage for 10 years you'd have an asset that has accumulated in value better than any stock index. Much like JDM sportscars like the Supra, Skyline, Rx7... This car will become legendary over time.
Agreed totally
Doubt it. Kia and Hyundai have horrible reliability scores
@@Pizvo porsche is also horrible 🤣. Don't pay attention to JD power those awards are fake like the grammys

Props to KIA for making this car even though they weren’t gonna make a profit out of it.
How come that cheap car maker kia is not making money on 55k+ stinger (Gt2 trim)? I would buy it but for 30k max)
It has done wonders for the brand. Their new electric car is insane!
@@rachelgreen1368 Probably the being cheaper than the comparable german cars
these kinds of halo cars often do not make a profit(when factoring in development cost, although it is usually because they fail), but are more to help with the brands perception(like kia being seen as the bad kind of cheap)
Thanks for the outstanding report Adz, it was a huge help! I bought a Stinger on the weekend!
This just reinforced my desire for one.
can you do the megane rs 280/300 please. plenty of nice back roads out near the blue mountains btw i prefer it to the cityscape
No regrets.
