      I have a 2014 optima sx turbo with every available option. To be honest I had a stigma about Kia's. I test drove my car on a whim. I was so impressed with it I bought it. Kia has come such a long way. I love the look of the Stinger. Great review to be honest the Stinger will be my next vehicle for sure. 👍

      Cool to see kia is interested in what owners have to say about about the stinger i hope they fix the little things you've mentioned. I've always seen kia as the low end non reliable or fun car lol the stinger changer that for me.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  6 лет назад +48

      That’s a very cool SRT8 in your thumbnail! I have so much respect for Kia and how much they truly care. I don’t think I would get a response from Mercedes Benz even if I had an S class 😂 ya the things mentioned in this video is nothing and they can easily fix this for the next generation as a first year production vehicle they hit it out of the park in my opinion a truly wonderful car. The Stinger has certainly changed me as well! Thank you so much for stopping by my friend

      Exhaust Sports Auto thank you my jeep is my baby lol but the stinger is a very interesting car if the price wasnt so high id probably try to get in one but I'm sure it's worth it. It has good style for a Kia i gotta say the back lights are cool and I like the one where it says stinger in the middle not sure what model that is i dig the blue color ones the white ones are clean too

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  6 лет назад +16

      Haha yes I’m a big fan of the Grand Cherokees especially any of the SRT ones. You can def get a Stinger GT for 38 grand maybe 40 with AWD and honestly you’re good to go the base models are really where it’s at with these cars and that’s where they the best bang for the buck! But even 50k like my car is, is definitely cheaper then a similarly equipped 440i or S5. But I appreciate your love and support my friend take care and enjoy that Jeep!

    A suggestion for the wrinkles in your seats, if it bothers you enough. Take an iron, place a small towel over the ironing surface and use the steam setting and you'll be able to iron out most of the wrinkling. I used to work in automotive seating and I've reworked probably thousands of seats, including removing wrinkles, before they leave the factory, except we used industrial steamers but using an iron will still be effective. Especially on the wrinkling on the bolster. Ass wrinkles will most likely be too deep but they can also be improved with this method. Good, solid review.

      Is the stereotypical Korean Motors suck still a thing?
      I rebuild cars and am curious to know the build quality of this vehicle. Also whether or not this is a car that will last 100k miles. Obviously it seems Audi and its German Competitors designs their vehicles to break at 70k miles which is why 80 percent lease and then those cars go on the used market and become other people's headaches. (Carbon deposits, poor spray engineering, terrible head gasket material, etc...)
      Considering Lexus, Alfa Romeo, and Kia right now. Plan on buying one that was not damaged that badly and repairing it.

      I bought both of my sons Hyandai Elantras for their graduation. Since Kia, and Hyandai are basically the same company I thought you might like to know they held up very well. Never any major issue. The boys both replaced the stereos. The factory stereo just wasn't very good. But other than that they were extremely reliable.

      Sounds like a dumb idea but I have been in cars so insulated from engine sound and road feedback I think it could be a good thing (at least as a switchable option). Mic’ed to the actual engine with the additional option of all four tires could add to the driving experience and potentially make it safer. There is also the option of ripping out carpets, headliners and door panels.... nah
      Being able to hear your “actual” car while driving has many benefits plus it can drown out irritating passengers 😝

      Love the review. We are a Kia family, I talked my wife into a Sorento, she loved it. Four of our friends bought Sorento's after seeing hers. Oil changes and 1 battery in 110,000 miles. Traded it in for a Cadenza. I bought an Optima. Got my daughter a Forte coup. I loved my Optima. Drove my wife Cadenza and loved it. 70,000 miles on my Optima, traded it for a Cadenza Limited. Wife traded her Cadenza for a 2017 Cadenza. Hate to say it but I totaled my Limited. Went to get another Cadenza and my salesman said did you see the new car Kia has...… The Stinger. LOL... I went home with it that day... I love it so much, best car I've ever had. My wife hates it. She thinks I'm going to kill myself.... What really shocked me is the quality....the outside still looks great (mind you it has all the dings and dents of a 7 year old car) and the interior still looks brand spankin new. Every time i do a detail cleaning of it I am like....wow...nothing is falling apart except the leather on the seats wrinkled up a good bit but no cracking. I want to buy a stinger sooooo badly but my optima still runs great and looks perfectly fine so its hard to justify spending 40-50k on one until this one shits the bed.

I've known Hyundai/Kia make great cars for many years now (I bought a new Genesis 3.8 sedan back in 2012 and 188,000 miles later shes still running strong!!). What I meant is it's strange to lust after a Kia but simply not be able to afford it. The Stinger might as well be a BMW or Audi to me because as great as it is, I simply cant afford a $50k car, and that's a long ways from Kias reputation for building the "affordable" European-style luxury car. Saw the stinger at a car show, I heard a few people come up to it (the owner had the logos in a black style), and they thought it was a Jaguar or a Audi.
    The guy (who owns a kia dealer), kept asking... after people got in the car to 'feel it'... "How much do you think this costs?"
    Everyone answered over $75k.

      Same I was considering the 4 series and the S5 as well I really wanted an SUV like the AMG GLC43 but I couldn’t afford any of these cars haha and ya the Stinger is a hatch that’s the main main reason that made me gravitate towards it. And the price is significantly cheaper so I’m very happy with my decision but trust me BMW and Audi are phenomenal cars I know you will love the 4 series but the Stinger is certainly a unique option that I know is worth Checking out! Best of luck my friend

    Great video Kevin. The quality of your videos has improved dramatically. A couple of interesting points:
    1. I took my car in for the fader starting out all the way in the rear, and they replaced the primary entertainment module after ordering it from Korea. After the replacement, that issue has disappeared.
    2. I have the AWD GT2, and it came with the 19" staggered wheels and the same summer tires you have. At the time (February), dealers in the DC metro area had both AWD configurations, the 19s with the summer tires and the 18" with the AWD tires. In my case I sold the summer tires and got the Michelin All Seasons AS/3.
    3. I've got about 4,800 miles, and I don't have the stretch marks on the leather (same exact color scheme as yours). I don't have the side bolsters all the way in, so your theory on the reason may be right on.
    4. I haven't had the screen going blank issue with Carplay. But I have had static starting when playing music through Carplay and switching drive mode. Pausing and restarting the music fixes that for me.
    Otherwise I agree with your assessment wholeheartedly. I'm not looking back. I thought I might regret not waiting for the G70, but I really need the hatchback. Just took a trip with 5 of us, 4 suitcases (2 large) and hand luggage for all 5, and with the trunk cover off, it all fitted in beautifully. Have also hauled some things with the seats folded flat that I'd never get into the G70, or any other regular sedan.
    Finally, I'm the opposite of a badge snob. I'd rather not have people think "look at that guy driving his BMW." But this Kia has gotten me more thumbs up and questions like "Wow, what is that car? It's beautiful," than any car I've had since the 2001 M3. Porsche owners have stopped me twice to ask about it.

    I think a lot of the love/hate feeling of this car is just due to the shock of it being a Kia.
    Those who love it are shocked at the leaps Kia has made in quality so mentally they think it’s just as great as some of the best from Europe. Those who hate it just use an excuse of “but it’s a Kia” because they just can’t admit that Kia made a great car.
    I have driven the Stinger, new S5, 440i xdrive, and I have a RS5. My honest opinion is that the Stinger is a great car with great quality interior. But the interior is pretty on par in quality with my dad’s 2006 Mercedes ML500, which has a phenomenal and comfortable interior and can still hold its own in today’s car market. However just like the Asian manufacturers have made improvements to interiors (specifically in the Accord and Mazda 6), the German interiors have also improved. The margin of improvement though is greater on the Asian cars because of where they’re coming from. For me this interior, although extremely nice, really competes better with the higher trim German interiors from a model or 2 generations ago, and that isn’t meant to be a knock since many of those interiors can still hold there own today.
    Performance wise, it is a killer bang for the buck and is fun to drive while still being very comfortable. I think if you are looking at a similar priced 3 series/a4/etc, you absolutely have to consider this vehicle. Quite frankly, many of those who buy the base engine model 3 series, a4 or c class are just trying to get into it for the brand recognition and most of the time don’t get the upgraded interiors (which this car can absolutely compete with some of the entry level luxury car interiors). I can understand some wanting a compact car, but I just don’t buy that excuse from everyone.
    I would still get the S5 over the stinger. I test drove one with a MSRP of ~63k and the dealership was offering 14% off any brand new S5 they had on the lot which brings that price down to ~54k. The Kia dealer was willing to come down to 48k on a gt2. At that price, I would have hopped on the S5 (I understand 6k can make or break it for someone).
    If Mazda ever comes out with a mazdaspeed6 with its new styling and interior, I feel like there would be absolutely no reason for someone to hop on a base entry level luxury car other than for the brand recognition.
    Great video too btw!

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  6 лет назад

      Absolutely phenomenal break down and I 10000% agree with all the points your brought up could not have said it better myself! I’m so happy you got to drive this car and the 440 bmw and S5. I actually leased this car that was the only way I could afford it lol but if I could I absolutely would get the S5 sport back if I’m going to keep it real, but the payment was a lot higher for me and even more money down so I just couldn’t do it. The BMW tho that’s interesting how was that car in your opinion compared to the Stinger? I feel like I gotta have the Stinger over the Beamer honestly. I want to make a video comparing these cars. But congratulations my friend on your new S5 phenomenal choice and also thank you very much for leaving this awesome comment really means a lot! Take care!

    • @ctownasianwonder
      @ctownasianwonder 6 лет назад +3

      I actually have a 2015 RS5. I wanted to test drive the 440/S5 because with a tune and some parts can be faster than the RS5. Neither can compare though to the RS5 with the high revving v8 though.
      The 440i xdrive definitely had the best handling/driving dynamics. Steering was much heavier and more direct in the BMW. At that price point though, their interiors just seem lack luster. Like they’re nice, but I much prefer the Napa leather of the Audi to the Dakota leather of the BMW and Audi’s tech and center stack just is better in my opinion in quality and style (and absolutely no competition if you consider a c43). I do prefer the styling of the 440 since it’s super stylish and has a distinctive BMW look. The front of the new a5/s5 has a bit Ford Fusion, don’t get me wrong a good looking family sedan, but Audi definitely took a step back in design from the b8.5 to the b9.
      As far as comparing the 440 to the Stinger (totally missed making the comparison), power-wise, I think you feel as if the Kia is faster (not entirely sure of the numbers, could be because the Kia feels bigger to drive than the 440). To be honest, unless you’re carving some canyon roads, you don’t need the handling of the BMW. The Kia does just fine in normal to curvy roads. I was only able to get the BMW guys down to ~58k on a 440 with a MSRP~60. For the 10k difference I would have gone for the Kia. The BMW just doesn’t seem like a complete package to me like the S5 does.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  6 лет назад +2

      Ahh yes very nice the V8 RS5 that’s a legendary car my friend but yes I also considered the 440I because of potential dinan tuning covered under warranty and the Audi simply because it’s a phenomenal car lol. I grew up loving BMWs but they hardly change and they feel lack luster to me the Audi feels fresh and new because it is and their interior as well Mercedes, destroys BMW I think. Fine cars I’m sure and I can def see it handling good but like you said in everyday driving that’s not necessary. Audi is certainly a more overall complete vehicle been curious about both and I appreciate someone with such great insight was able to check them out and comment on one of our videos really means a lot!

    • @ctownasianwonder
      @ctownasianwonder 6 лет назад

      For sure Audi and Mercedes blow BMW out of the water in terms of interior. I do love BMW, but I think they’re playing out this “ultimate driving machine” too much. Luckily the one I test drove didn’t have their updated head unit with the gesture control.
      I’m actually interested in replacing my Honda with the Stinger when it’s time. Though likely won’t be until the second generation Stinger comes out.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  6 лет назад

      Ya I wish BMW would make more drastic changes like the new 8 series looks cool and all but kind of just looks like a bigger 6 series and will probably most likely have a similar interior. And wow that would be an awesome car to have next to your RS5 nice daily and ya the second Gen stinger should be something interesting I’m very curious on what they’re going to do! I got my Stinger back in January of 2018. Brought it in August of that same year for issues with the brakes. Had rotors replaced and pads replaced. Kia payed. And here it is, one year later and I am having the same problem. Any time I am going down hill at around 50, you can feel the car shake as I apply the brakes. I spoke to a Kia service rep and he said that Kia would only pay for the first repair and not this one. Car has 17500 miles on it. I have never had issues with any other car over the years like I do with this one. Love the car, but I am feeling regret over the car. Thankfully its a lease becauseI I will be turning it in. I owned a 2009 Pontiac G8-GT (which I dearly miss), and the Stinger has much the same profile, power, room and BETTER performance, making it, on the surface, a great sports/family combo car. On a bumpy road i.e. most public roads, the car is faster with suspension in comfort mode. Sure, the sport mode is stiff but it's a bit too "bouncy" compared to a sports car and gets upset very easily when you hit a bump while cornering. This is the only area where I think Kia can make a significant improvement to the handling....and even then you could argue that sport mode is optimized for a smooth track.

      Oh that’s awesome glad to have viewers so close by! I actually sold the Stinger (actually many changes happened) but I initially traded in the Acura TSX for the Stinger and I wasn’t sold on it from the start even when I bought it, I actually thought my Acura was more fun to drive strangely and I thought I was just being spoiled after all, this was motortrend car of the year and won countless awards. Well the automotive press is wrong and I should have trusted my gut instincts, the Stinger, G70, and new K900 are all just budget Striped versions of the Genesis G80 which is a far superior feeling car. The G80 doesn’t win the spec sheet game unlike the Stinger which does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds but there’s so much more to cars then numbers and owning the Stinger and G80 taught me that. I am a happy sunset yellow GT stinger owner, and is one of the most eyes catching car I have lately see, is amazing how often people stop me just to complement my car, people in convertible Porsche, BMW , land rovers, etc etc. And is funny how they think is a jaguar or a Maserati, and they faces when I tell them proud that it is a KIA.😂 and forget about the driving, it is butter.
    The only thing was the pain recall specially on the sunset yellow, but KIA is taking care of it very responsibly.

    Great review pointing out the minor issues that do annoy yet are very easily fixable. I removed my cranium from my rectum 5 years ago and took the Kia plunge with a 2014 Sorento SX. Traded it in for the 2018 model a year ago and Kia`s now truly are Audi`s at non rip off prices. The Stinger GT is definitely top of the wish list and hoping to take the plunge the moment we have a need for a 2nd vehicle in the household. Will have to stick to the Sorento for now as i`m not sure our Golden Retriever would appreciate the Stinger as much as I would..lol

    I'm keeping my eye on Kia. I'm a long time Honda/Toyota guy and they too were considered cheap brands at one time. Like anything, a reputation is earned so it takes time. I will say one thing, though. When it comes to the 10 year/100k mile warranty, my view isn't that, should something go wrong, I'm covered. That's already implying, in my mind, that I expect something to go wrong. If that's the case, then I'd rather spend my money on something I pretty much know will work. Hard to explain, but something I trust. Honda/Toyota has been that way for me. I'm watching the long term in Kia to see if they're the same way. I hope they are because I'm really liking what they're putting out. As for BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc., repairs are expensive. Rather than spend money on repairs, I'd rather spend on niceties or a higher trim level in a car. I'd rather spend the money buying property. I'd rather spend the money on a vacation. I guess what I'm saying is that spending on repairs isn't getting you ahead, it's getting you back to breaking even. The money isn't getting you more so why go into something like that?

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for stopping by my friend 100% agree with you, I’ve had my eye on the brand ever since they redesigned the Optima and Sonatas I knew they were great cars and all but I still couldn’t get over the brand haha. As for the warranty I think they mean the car is built to last and is built to a certain quality because car manufacturers are not in the business to loose money or else why wouldn’t Mercedes offer the same warranty haha. The Stinger is really what made me look deep down and say “why do I care what brand it is, it’s simply a machine” if it genuinely offers a lot for the money I should love these cars and now I’m all for it took me a long time for me to get over the brand stigma. Thank you my friend for stopping by and leaving your thoughts really means a lot and I enjoyed reading it! Take care

    Great video- I own a Silky Silver GT2 AWD. (and interestingly enough, like you, I had a 2010 TSX previously) It drives great and I love it- the only issue I have is what I would consider excessive wind noise from the driver’s side window at speeds over 40mph. I’ve taken it back to the dealer and they told me “this is normal” for a Stinger. I’ve driven many cars and I would say it’s definitely louder than normal, especially for a 50K car. Just curious as to your thoughts and if you’ve experienced or heard of any similar problems. I enjoy your videos- thanks for making them.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  5 лет назад

      Hey Aaron first off thanks so much for your love and support really means a lot. Very cool that you previously came from a TSX haha awesome coincidence. As far as wind noise tbh it was ok for me I didn’t mind it. I actually currently drive a Genesis G80 now and of course compared to the G80, it is no where near as isolated but I will say this, the lack of isolation is kind of what made the Stinger fun for me and raw as strange as that seams. Especially compared to the German cars the Stinger is much more exciting feeling. If I’m honest, the biggest disappointment for me with the Stinger is the at limit handling. Anything past 7/10 the Stinger just didn’t do well for me. A lot of this is the poor suspension design the G80 uses a double wishbone set up and body roll aside, hand on heart the G80 luxury boat is a tad more capable at handling then the Stinger as crazy as that sounds. Stinger still drives and turns in with a luxury feel but that’s my personal biggest complaint and they could easily fix it. Congrats on your beautiful Stinger it’s still a beast and I will always love it
