"All I wanted" peaked at #19 on Billboard on January 16, 1987. Good song, but one of their best and most underrated songs is "Hold On," which only peaked at #40 in 1980.
December of 1986 was really the conclusion of MTV's "golden era" where videos were played 24/7 and charming personalities like Martha Quinn dominated the waves. 1987 was where the foundation of MTV like A Flock of Seagulls and Quarterflash and ASIA and so on faded away. Nice video for Kansas and a reminder of the talent of Steve Walsh and Kansas--great video and song. Thanks for posting this tremendous clip!
Although All I Wanted made it to 19, they have rarely played it in concert since the late 80's. I have been to 75 Kansas concerts since 1992 and have only heard the song about three times.
I think it's because Steve kind of made fun of it every time they were about to play it. They played it in the 90's but Steve would always say something like "We'd like to play a song from out Power album..... were you one of the 10 people that bought it?" I think the last time they played it with Steve was probably 1996
The Kansas video is perfect example of what older bands would do in videos. 1 they shoot it in black and white make them look younger. 2 quick cuts of less attractive band members 3 have story in video using younger models.
One of several MTV videos to use the new Rotoscope video editing tool. The other ones were "Take On Me" by A-Ha and "Money For Nothing" by Dire Straits, as well as Elvis Costello's "Accidents Will Happen".
You didn't... and, quite frankly, no-one else does. After their last big hit in the 70's, Point Of No Return, they were pretty-much done... even if they went on to make the Audio Visions album.
@pancudowny Kansas still had some good success with their hits, "Play The Game Tonight", "Fight Fire With Fire", and "All I Wanted" but their greatest success and popularity was definitely in the 70s.

"All we are is Dust in the wind".
Best Era. Martha is so hot!! 😘
I must have missed Kansas comeback in the '80s.

I met Gilbert Gottfried, he's just as funny in person. He really talks that way.
He was in only one episode of Married with Children
Great Promo for Spaceballs with Legendary Director, Mel Brooks
Awesome Bit by Gilbert
I had a crush on her, so I ended up with a girlfriend that could of been her twin
