The Gal in the beginning who shoots the guy was my wife at the time. Great time making this vid. Some corny early 80's moments, but it was the time. Shot it in a ball room in downtown Chicago with a student crew from Columbia U. 16mm.
I met him at a juke box at a hotel on RT41 in Hammond Indiana, where he played at my late friend Tiny's birthday party around 1990. He liked that I played Little Richard, I said it was the hippest song on it. I later helped him carry his gear to his car in below zero weather. Tiny was then known as the world's biggest Skafish fan and was featured in the Ch 11 Wild Chicago segment on Skafish.
WOXY in Oxford, Ohio played the hell out of this song in '83-'84! I still have it on a tape I recorded live off their broadcast and it's a flashback every time I play it!
I was running around up there in Chcago and lived close to this club on the north side (I think it was called HUEY'S) and saw SKAFISH by accident. I thought they were magnetic, and I was into R&B and Jazz. A unique talent.
This song is so catchy and sounds like something that could be released today! Skafish is from my hometown of East Chicago, IN. Would love to catch up with you sometime man! I was part of the acappella group 5:00 Shadow, which opened for you at JJ Kelly's way back in the day..... friends with Robby Celestin... I hope you are doing well my friend! : )
+David Blixt Hey, you guys sang great -- I loved working with you. Hope Robby is killing it out there -- we grew up rough -- glad I wrote this song about it!
With a name like Skafish, I expected something a little more ska. That's what's wrong with naming your band that locks you into one style. Any deviation will make you look like a sell out.
+Psychedelic Trainwreck No problem. So many people have thought my band and I are Ska, even as far back as in London in 1980. Actually, Skafish is my birth name and it is pronounced Skayfish. I have been performing as Skafish since 1976. We did tour with English Beat in Europe, but my band and I don't do any Ska and never pretended to. We do more of a punk/alt kind of thing!
The leads singers last name is Skafish. Jim Skafish. And it's pronounced "Skaye-fish" not "Ska-fish". Read about him, he's a very interesting performer. His band was the first Punk/New Wave/Indie in Chicago.
This F-ing rocks!
GREAT freaking song. Skafish ruled
+Don Monmouth And, there is more to come -- stay tuned!
Skafish Will do!
I never ever ever saw this on MTV & I was addicted to it back then.
It was shown just once and got censored over the shooting
I remember meeting Jimmy several times in the past. Hanging out with Javier Cruz and Life. Back in the 80's .
