Features sister Moon Unit Zappa on vocals
Look for cameos by Don Johnson, Jane Fonda, Robert Wagner, Charlie Sexton, Daphne Zuniga, Vince Neil, and dad Frank Zappa
Moon was gorgeous. Damn I hate getting old. This song rules. Gotta go find the CD somewhere.
And she still is!
@@Nimzo2005 🤔
Wow! Moon was gorgeous in this video !

i think this is the entire 'discography'
but yes, i love these songs - both written by Frank of course, but extremely well performed by his offspring
Moon is still gorgeous today
Yeah, and Dweezil was quite a cutie too.
@@relentlesscactus Indeed she is!
This video made me go out and buy this model of Kramer..take me back lol
When Music Television existed.
This is when MTV was MTV.
Dude it's crazy to think he wasn't even 20 years old. Plus it's cool that his sister was singing. Dweezil rules.
Moon first
she is such a unit!
I had almost completely forgotten about this song... Dweezil and Moon are cute together in this video
Moon is so hot
+Mega Dooche She was, she's kinda lost her looks though unfortunately.
Was, just like the rest of us...uh, kind of.
I guess this had to be one of my favorite songs from the 80s. Used to pull this song out at our party days, crank it up and everyone would say, WOW.
imagine if they had a show back then like the Osborn's only with the Zappa's
They had a short lived sitcom in 1990, scripted though, not reality.
Super talented family. Dweezil is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. KILLER solo in this song.
Also, Moon is such a goddess. I used to have a serious crush on her. Heck, I guess I still do. Lol!
Too bad they all hate each other now.
His father was an outstanding guitarist.
I really miss those dresses and work boots.
Strangely relevant 33 years later!!
Dweezil, A Guitar Prodigy Self Taught by his father, the Legend, Frank Zappa and very Eddie Van Halen influenced. Moon is just simply delightful, Beautiful amazingly talented, highly educated. Classey, Spontaneously Fun California Girl.
horsepucky he was taught by steve vai
moon was soooo cute, and still is. and she was.is smart, articulate like her dad..love her
Wow! He was an amazing guitar player! I think this was not a hit because the music was metal ish, and the vocals were totally new wave in style and content. It’s like the B52’s meet VH. If moon did this with new wave or punk sounding synths it may have been a hit. But man the music and his guitar solo are fire!
B52s meets VH..........perfect description. Dead on
Dweezle is one of the most underrated players!
So sick of people saying everything is underrated
Moon WOW. What a lady
Moon so gorgeous... :P
moon unit!!!
My college roommate and I listened to this and I want a Yacht all the time, classics
I'm glad that Frank let us in on his family. I'm so sad he's gone.
Loved this song and his whole album Having a bad Day!!
I always loved this song and video. It's a sin that Spotify doesn't have it.
Yeah well that’s why I just bought the record on vinyl. That’s the way it should be-people buying records instead of just listening for free.- That way artists make money too.
@@ale13xanders21 Ive had it on vinyl for 35 years....just no way to play it any more
@@ale13xanders21 spotify is a pay service.
I love that this was released on their Dad's "Barking Pumpkin" label. Frank supposedly named the label after his wife's cough when she quit smoking. 😁
First Time I Saw This Video Dec 86 86!!! Damn Getting Old Sucks
I loved Dweezil's first album (and the next 3 or 4)... THIS VIDEO remains a favorite. Moon is gorgeous .... Frank and R.J. are funny. It's just a fun video about serious stuff. GREAT RIFFS
I see Robert wagner in this video, but I knew Don Johnson was a fan of him. Frank zappa had appeared in Miami vice.
I remember Dweezil introducing his own music video premiere...after it finished playing the first time he ordered the first ever double premiere and played the video a second time in a row. Easily one of the most amazing guitar solos of all time. Way underrated.
Imagine having Frank, Jane Fonda, Don Johnson, Robert Wagner, Daphne Zuniga and others in your first video
Moon was and is as smart as she is gorgeous.
I like this song the guitar is great
Amazing song!!!!!💕💕💕. I only recently learned about the complex scenario that resulted from Frank’s Estate being divied up (after his wife’s passing) amongst Moon Unit, Dweezil, and the other two siblings. Moon Unit and Dweezil were allocated 20% each rights to their dad’s estate (ie Music Rights) with the two younger sibs being awarded 30% each (for a total of 100%). It caused a huge rift amongst the kids, rightly so. If I had been Moon, I would really have been pissed. She sang lead vocals, co-wrote it, and Valley Girl was Frank’s ONLY Top 40 hit in the US.
I think the idea was that Dweezil and Moon could continue to earn money through music and such, the other two could not, and of course there was more to story that well never know.
Never heard this on the billboard that year. Amazing song.
I hella had a crush on Moon Unit when this video came out...I'm the only one I knew back then that bought this tape
I lucked out on how i got this tape. My mom worked for a cleaning company that worked a building where there was a radio station. They had just recently changed formats and were throwing out boxes of cassettes and records almost daily, air check tapes from DJ's looking for work, promo albums and records they couldn't play because it wasnt in their format. This tape happened to be in one of the boxes she brought home one night... I still have it
I bought it.. lol. Still listen to it (Well the MP3's anyways..)
yes love the tane
When Music Videos were FUN !!
I have never heard this song before but now it is stuck in my head! Help!!! Lol.
I love this....guitar and moon.
Ace, and monster axe playing from Dweezil.and Moon is/was so hot
I had this album, but lost it thanks to a bunch of termites. My favorite track was "I WANT A YACHT"
Totally remember this tune. ..
Moon 😍
I remember when this happened. I only watched it cuz I liked Moon Unit and ended up liking this song.
the best greasy guitars, best distortion, great song, rock happy times :) !!
That crunchy tone was the one I chased after I heard this song.
I was born on this day...
yea, I agree...he never got the credit he deserved for his guitar riffs.
No surprise I've never heard this before. Frank's thinking, "Well, at least they have a hobby now."
They let Dweez play it twice in a row, that's epic! I bet nobody else ever got to do that. I may be wrong.
Dweezil spent a hot minute as a VJ, so I'm sure that gave him a little extra clout.
I havent heard this one in a long time,Cool Song.
Still love this!!!!
In 1986 I didn't know she was his sister. For me was just "this guy is doing this hot girl and that's why she is singing with Zappa's son". She was hot! Many years later I discovered she was the valley girl. Despite the father, both zappas remained almost unknown in Brazil. I didn't like Zappa, only in 2014 I decided to hear his entire (nuts) discography.
Moon is gorgeous here. Always had a soft spot for a non-bitchy, wide-eyed personality. So refreshing.
Like finding a four leaf clover or a leprechaun. Almost non- existent
Great song. I dig that backbeat. I heard it was some of Frank’s guys. Scott Tunes on bass and someone else. Solid
Scott and Chad Wackerman where the rhythm section.
...from the book: Zappa, The Hard Way by Andrew Greenaway
Alot of people don't realize that it Dweezil backed by Franks road band, really incredible
I was born around this time (hope I'm not talking too much). God, I wish I was born 15-20 years earlier... to witness the original MTV VJs. And when MTV came out in 81.
facebook.com/MTV80sVJs
I watched MTV from its birth. It was something else, for sure. The 80s were a great time.
Moon channeling Dale Bozzio
Actress Daphne Zuniga @ 3:03
DavidKimFX The grin he gives her 😄
Yeah, you know he was tapping that.
I don’t remember this song at all. We didn’t have MTV in ‘86 (satellite signals were all scrambled by then rendering my Dad’s satellite dish useless). I am the same age as Dweezil and I was so jealous of him. Also had a huge crush on Moon. The vocal melody just kinda followed the guitar which is a mistake, but it’s forgiven because she was hot.
This is so great! They should have done a lot more. They still can ... 🥰 Love this!
She is hotness!
Don Johnson should get credit for directing this lol
You tell the EVH influence had on DZ
Sounds more Satriani than EVH. But, makes sense since Satriani taught Vai & Vai taught Dweezil.
@@NinjaRunningWild but EVH was the one Dweezil modeled his playing after and who he looked up to
Brought this album in the mid -eighties with the proceeds of flipping bergers and making sandwiches.
I was working at Pizza Hut at the time I believe ;)
badass solo
Check out his work on "Heartbeat"/Don Johnson , circa 1986... ruclips.net/video/5CR4lSORZ_Q/видео.html
4:05 she almost got knocked out.
Charlie!
Nice guitar green charvel
Back in the day I couldn't figure out why this wasn't the biggest song in America, now that I'm older I realize its because what they are singing about hits too close to home.
OK... this is very dated. However will I take it over Ariani Grande, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry blah blah etc... YUP.
Spotify doesn't know what it's missing.
🌙
I don't know if it's Moon's vocals, but I'm getting a strong B-52's vibe off of this song. Take away a bit of distortion from the guitars, and add some old timey synths in the background and this would legit pass for a B-52's song (which is a good thing, since it's a damn good band).
Why don't we take everything but the bass drum track out and make a rap video.
Still want to know the name of the blonde dish in the leather get is/was.
It is hard to see who it was but I thought it was Lita Ford.
Was that Charlie Sexton?
I think so
yes!
I'm not surprised yoko n john stole Pappas song they seemed like the tipe to do that kind of thing
all the Friday night Margaritas at Franks house set..
cool tune moon was cute then
she was so beautiful it seems later she didn't take care of herself. Her look reminds me of school marm. At least her clothes that is.
Was that Charlie Sexton at 3:09??
+unclejoe862 Yes
The Zappa family is the American family.
Amateur night. But they were kids, so it's really appropriate for what teenagers would write in that era. But I love all the Zappas. Wonderful and interesting people, all of them.
wish i was spoiled rotten
FireWithFire Re-read your comment a year on, hope you’re feeling less bitter and much better than you were back then.
I wonder why they only got 20% of the Zappa estate and the younger ones got 30%?
Definitely influenced by their Dad..😊
Is that Jane Fonda making sandwiches, or am I delusional?
When I see Hanoi Jane in a video claiming Capitalism/Communism/Freedom are just words that we might not know the meaning of, I have to admit i get somewhat skeptical our best interests are being upheld here...
Great song though
Is that Jonathon Hart?
Love a bit of grungy for breakfast me..
Who is the guy in the leather jacket at 3:08?
Charlie Sexton (I'm almost positive)
sophia morietta I looked him up and I think you're right. Thanks for the answer, I've never even heard of the guy.
Definitely Charlie Sexton, and Daphne Zuniga just before him. The two gentlemen in the director's chairs with the newspapers are Frank Zappa and Robert Wagner. That's Don Johnson at the very beginning of the video (Dweezil had played on his album Heartbeat, and appeared in the video for the single, so I guess this was Don reciprocating for the latter). I THINK that's Vince Neil with the camera after the guitar solo, but I'm not sure who the dark haired guy next to him. Not sure about the other people in the video.
The woman dancing at the food table is Jane Fonda
Who does Moon look exactly like, it's driving me nuts
Hi, read your comment 2 years latter, hope your still well. Aubrey Plaza?
I always thought Moon & Justine Bateman could've been twins back in the day
someone was way into missing persons.
Lol makes sense with the Zappa connection and all.
Nothing wrong with Missing Persons.
@@talesfromthetoiletseat8295 agreed. great band.
Why is he credited for the song and doesn’t sing it. Why not Zappa or another group name. These kids grew up rich. They ain’t so edgy. They should have acted more. They were pretty.
It’s his band & album. Moon sings on just this song.
REBUILD HISTORIC "LESTUDIO" CANADA YEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!EH!
Some cool RUclips vids on this place
Was that who I think it was making sammiches ?
She's a cute kid.
C'est CACA ! du sous VANHALEN.. par contre son groupe "Z" est très bien et je ne parle pas de ses futures reprises de son père, dweezil est un très bon guitariste.
Moon can't sing, but she is so hot
What the fuck they talkin bout?
Early-mid 90s teenagers were done with the crap music majority 80s produced. Wanted something honest, original
Absolutely love Dweezil Zappa but I got to think he probably would like to have this one back.... how f****** cheesy and I just don't get the video with Don Johnson and Jane Fonda I'm just thoroughly confused
It was 1986. They were hot, and everything was pretty cheesy back then. Jane was coming off a run of workout tapes that EVERYONE's mom had. DJ was with Melanie Griffith, who nannied for the Zappas for a while, so that's practically a family connection. Dweezil played on DJ's Heartbeat (not the greatest song, but the solo is straight fire). All the cameos are the It Kids of the moment and friends of Dweezil and Moon.
So, yea, Dweezil can certainly play guitar and Moon is hot and can sing but, the song is still terrible.
Mike G this is a great musical piece. But you wouldn't know.
Dweezil should've played in a real band because he was massively talented, but this sucks so bad. Takes more than fancy guitar playing to make good music.
He was 17 at that time, cut him some slack.
It is not that bad of a song. For a “kid” he is very very good.
The video is kind of corny but solid song
