I've heard of diesel bugs causing problems but that's the first time I've actually seen what it looks like.Great job as ever bet the truck owner was relieved.
With the increase in blended diesel mixes, I'm seeing this more and more.....I've another video from a guy in Birmingham who also had the same fault 🫣 Hopefully, the customer sorts out getting it treated ASAP
You get it a lot in tractors as the fuel can spend months in a tank which gives the bacteria time to spread. At its worst I’ve had to take off a fuel tank all the fuel lines, twin filters etc right up to the injection pump. The filters were solid with a jelly like substance. I’ve found once you treat the fuel you’ll need to change the filters again after a few days as all the dead crud ends up at the filters.
Thanks for the advice. I've yet to go back to any truck I've attended due to this issue other than explaining the filters will block again after the fuel treatment. I suppose that's why they suggest "fuel polishing" on contained systems also
Glad you liked the simple video....I see this like once a week 😄. The thing is some customers don't have the staff or the diagnostic gear to fix stuff like this even if its a simple job for you and me. My big problem is time but now I'm producing these more raw videos I don't have to spend so much of my week editing and adding technical information 😅
Nice easy one and I liked the easy video ( easy meaning less bother for you!) I can't believe I've never seen the diesel bug before....every day is a school day!
It was a quick trip out put it that way 😅. Its nice to have some of the easier jobs sometimes but I hope it makes people aware of what they could be potentially dealing with lurking in a fuel tank 🫣
How come you don’t take the pipe off the fuel pump to stop contamination from the strainer filter going in once you’ve removed the filter? I find a pair of snap ring pliers inside the filter get it out easily. Good video 👌🏻
Hey Franz 👋 thanks for the comment. If I was going to remove the main filter I would remove a fuel pipe and drain it down to the fuel pump. I will check RMI later to see if I should indeed be removing the pipe.....thinking about it does it say to push it up from the bottom so you may be right 😎. I will try the snap ring pliers this week 😅😂🫣
@@TRUCKTECHUK I was led to believe that you’re supposed to take the pipe off the main filter housing when changing the paper filter and when you’re changing the strainer you’re supposed to take the pipe off that goes down to the fuel pump, I don’t normally bother taking the the pipe off the main filter housing but always take the one off the strainer as I’ve had bits of swarf in there and even bits of o ring from the bottom of the strainer filter. Really enjoy your videos 👍🏻
Excellent video! How did you get the engine started with close to 0 fuel pressure? Did you increase the idle speed to prevent the idle shutdown from turning it off?
Hey thanks for the comment buddy 👍. Yep, I was expecting a 10-minute crankathon on the key to get it going but I turned the key and it went! Must be because I didn't drain the main filter down and only the strainer 😵💫
Ha ha ha I didn't choose DAF, they chose me lol after I shut my painting and fabrication shop DAF was one of my biggest customers so when I said I was finishing they said "Come work for us!" 10 years later we parted company and I went back to doing things my way with the help of Eclipse Diagnostics 😎👌

It seems really good as long as you know how to interpret the figures as you do coming from a dealer, I work on multiple brands of trucks, plant and Agri stuff, does it give expected values?
@bennycovelly960 I got so fed up in the workshop, I missed doing daf-aid but not at 3 in the morning on a Sunday night with a 7 o'clock start on a Monday so I feel I've the best of both worlds now 👌😎

Had that a fair bit, Exocet anti bug kill is best I’ve found, I always get another set of fuel filters for the customer, I find when the bug is broken up, the filters catch it and you get another call 😂
Hey Dave thanks for the comment. I will have to pop into Exocet in Shrewsbury and see if I can keep some stock of it in the shop for people 😎👍 I'm just starting to supply filters and stuff now 😅
I’ve had the Jaltest guys over today to do me a demo, I’m used to Delphi/ recently borrowed texa, looking to buy a Jaltest, what’s your thoughts as if I can’t guess?

@davebroster8930 what are your thoughts on the jaltest system? I use it as I find it intuitive to navigate and gives me Similar menu options to Davie such as the leak-off tests and results. It's no dealer computer but then it does all the other makes and models I need it to with DAF diagrams which means my transition from dealer tool to generic diagnostics has been simple. Not to mention the backup from eclipse diagnostics. I've used TEXA and I've got other tools here but I always end up back on jaltest 😅
Hey Alex, sorry your comment was filtered as it contained the word DAVIE 😂. I have to filter the word DAVIE as I have about 60 comments a day from people wanting to buy it from me 🙈. As for Davie, even though it's a dealer tool it's out of my price range and for 99% of the day I don't need it! I'd love the programming side of it but now JALTEST has released CENTRAL SERVICES I think it will eventually cover my need for DAF programming 😎👌

Been running Renault T since launch good from the outset 2019 on was improved again, Don't give many problems and the dealers back up is as good as any I've had .
Good video .But as you know not all fuel faults are that easy lol. That looks like that vehicle runs on bio fuel.which causes no end of issues..And with tolerances on the fuel systems being soo tightit is a recipe for disaster along with the fuel system manufacturers making an ass of the systems
Hey norb, no we both know how difficult the fuel system can be especially when it's the high-pressure system which is involved or ACTUAL electrical faults which I thought I was going to have to deal with on the water in fuel sensor 🫣
This is the problem Brian........do people service these trucks! The fuel module has a water drain built into it which should automatically siphon off any water in the filter. Daf also fitted a water separator pre-filter on the construction chassis but I guess no amount of filtering will save a poorly serviced vehicle
