Turcksmachine and the factories to produce it, and the landfills to hold the containers, and the extra diesel burned during regen, and more diesel fill-ups because of low MPG, and the increased engine wear resulting in shorter vehicle lifespans resulting in more factories needed to build more parts and vehicles. Absolutely a great idea! :-(
Let's see,..the fuel cap is green...the DEF cap is blue...the green cap is 2x the size of the blue one...and the openings are different sizes...I suppose if you;re blind and terminally stupid you could confuse the two. In that case, I don't think putting the DEF on the opposite side of the truck would do anything at all. Maybe if the DEF cap was on Mars and you had to go to a completely different planet that might solve the confusion.
@@buckhorncortez I don't get it either. What really astounds me is we had some kids at work manage to fill the DEF tank with diesel. The three of them had to purchase a funnel to accomplish this and not one had the lightbulb in their head go off🤔
Or you can just pay attention on what you’re doing.....imagine that 🤪 The big green refill cap means fricken diesel fuel and the much smaller blue refill cap mean fricken DEF. Oh wait it gets better it even says it on the caps 😱
Ralf Risberg same here brother. Old skool six2 Detroit, and when i went to replace my daily gasser with a diesel pick-up, i knew i was buying a pre-01/01/2007 truck simply to avoid the whole DEF issue.
I never owned a diesel before fall of 2018 when I went looking for a diesel to pull a 10,000 + cargo (13,000 +/-) fifth wheel. I didn't want to struggle up hills so decided I definitely needed to go diesel. I researched and researched and talked to diesel owners and decided on a few things, I didn't want anything that took DEF, or anything that had a DPF or overly aggressive EGR, and noted 2006 was the cutoff. I also didn't want a 4x4 because it's rarely needed, added expense and costs MPG. One more consideration was I didn't want a truck that had been molested in anyway. I ended up finding a well maintained 2006 Duramax 6.6 (LBZ w/LLY tune) with some surface rust on the frame and needing some minor repairs and TLC. The truck has 125K on the clock and I'm putting some work into it but at 61 I'm hoping it will last me the rest of my life, I would rather put money into this older truck than buy anything 2007 or newer. The only other diesel I would have considered would have been a 7.3 Powerstroke but those are getting harder and harder to find as well.
I have an '03 F350 & never even heard of DEF until this video. Did some online reading as I was curious & just want to pass on a thanks for educating me about this. Great video!
I literally just did this last week. Got Diesel the day before but he DEF pumps were occupied. The next day after work I stop and gas station on the way home. Since I wasn't getting Diesel and only putting DEF in I left my truck running. While I was putting my credit in I was also on the phone with BASS PRO where they lied to me about work they did on my boat. I was upset and distracted. Ended up putting two and half gallons of DEF into running truck before I realized what I was doing. Shortly later it errored out with "water in fuel". Had truck towed to Chevy dealership. (only 4500 miles on it) I about crapped my pants when quote came back at $16,000. That does not include engine. $5500 parts and 64 hours labor. Here is where my luck turned. Turns out I wasn't cheap when I bought my Comprehensive Policy and ended up being covered by my policy.
@Game Bred Duramax thats why the EPA makes you use DEF and they put all that other crap on diesels, its so you would burn more fuel and breakdown more and burn your trucks up faster
@Game Bred Duramax Me too last winter, Double R Diesel MM3 tuner Ray is the best, 5"cat back straight pipe, CCV and throttle valve delete and yesterday put in a S& B air filter... The truck loves breathing again. :)
Yep, but if you do any maintence research yourself you soon learn that Al Gore's and Obama's blue tec exhaust recycling back into the intake is a lose lose. Brain dead dems tree huggers who want everybody riding the gvernment bus/train. I run one of 6 different hp tunes and 4 different sounds tunes. mostly run +120 HP with 12V sound tune. Truck loves it. When I tow I use a +30 HP tune. @Game Bred Duramax
Mixing diesel and DEF makes a very confused concoction.... The diesel naturally wants to protect and lubricate everything. The DEF, being derived from fertilizer (urea) naturally wants to rust and curode most things it comes in contact with.... We use diesel on all our fertilizer equipment after a good steam cleaning at the end of the season... Takes about 4 gallons to coat everything that fertlizer comes in contact with. Still amazes me that some one though urea would work in an exhaust system.... Curodes bridges, overpasses, even the trucks it's used on... (Hence, why exhaust systems for DEF are all stainless) But hey, what would I know about what fertilizer will do to metal?? I've only used it for 50 years....
Thanks for the straight-up what NOT TO DO vid. Didn’t even think about what would happen when I kick the key to on. Imagine that flatbed truck guy might do that just to make sure the steering wheel wasn’t locked during load/unload. Best to just disconnect the battery to make sure someone else doesn’t mess it up when you’re not looking!! Thanks again Wade!!
"Just there for the free booze" ... best Wade quote of the century. Great information, so glad I have a '02 Cummins, except when we start talking VP44s.
He right about every word. I did this precicly. 1HZ Toyota Coaster Motorhome 2000, put AdBlue in ( Diesel Exhuast Fuel) at the service station, drove vehcle 14 kilomters and it stopped. Long nightmare story short it wrecked the injector pump and the engine has be rebiult as it's got serious blowby now. See my channel for heap videos on trying to trouble shoot and fix it. Absolute nightmare stuf should be warning all over the service stations.
Besides I really don't understand why people have a problem with this system. It's simply a fluid that lowers your toxic emissions into enviroment , isn't that a good thing ?
Great video! BUT, too late for me, as a couple of weeks ago, I added a very small amount of DEF to my fuel tank on my 2018 F250 6.7TD. I made this lame-brain mistake at a fuel station that sells DEF at the pumps. Just not paying attention, I inserted the nozzle into my diesel fuel inlet-which I had just finished filling completely full. I had pumped in maybe a quart of DEF when I realized my mistake and immediately stopped (some of it had splashed out due to the tank being full). I then proceeded to fill my DEF tank. Not knowing how serious this could be, I started my truck and drove home-about 10 miles. By the time I arrived home, my “water in fuel” warning was on. I immediately drained the fuel/water separator under the truck-did that a couple of times. Then, I replaced the water separator filter, and the engine mounted filter (had those two items in my shop). For the next few days, I continued to drain fuel from underneath my truck, until I got down to about a 1/2 tank of fuel. Then, I refilled my truck. I’ve driven many miles in the past couple of weeks, without any issues. Truck starts fast, runs smooth, no further WIF alerts, nothing. So here is my concern-do I have a ticking timebomb that could go off at an point in time? Is there anything I should be doing at this point? My local Ford dealer’s service manager said they see several trucks every year that have this same thing happen, and his recommendation was to continue to drive it, but to know that trouble could still be in my future. One last thing, we use our truck to tow our fifth wheel, and we got several trips on the calendar for this spring, beginning in March. One is about 800 miles away, in April. So, what advice would you give me around “next steps”?? Also, what about the traveling with the fifth wheel? I just saw your RUclips site and subscribed to it-hopefully I’ll still have this truck for a good long while-we love it! Thanks very much!
Just curious to know what your outcome was. Did u drain your fuel or just top it off? I've got a 2013 and I've got the same situation, very small amount of def added to fuel, drove it 10 miles now water in fuel lights are on. Ive got a quarter tank of fuel but hate to drop tank. If this worked for u, i may try what you did. Thanks in advance
Haha. Just bought first diesel. When I get to a pump now I talk to myself as I read and triple check pump colors and labels to myself about what I am about to do, then look at my truck fuel caps and intentionally open the correct cap for what I am about to do, then pray to God about what I am about to do. 😂
A kid put gasoline put in my Duramax a couple years back at a local full-service station. Luckily for them, I shut it down the second my engine, "coughed", so there was no damage to the system. But it did cost the station $150.00 for towing, $580.00 to drain and clean the system, plus a new filter, another 36 gallons of fuel, and I talked the owner into two additional fill-ups for my inconvenience. The kid got fired for being an idiot. P.S. My Duramax was bought brand new in 2003, and has 93,000 miles on it. Living in N.Y., rust is a problem, so I had it painted, and restored, "body off" a couple of years back. Replaced some of the running gear, all of the lines, the exhaust, etc. I'm 68, so I plan on driving it into my grave!! None of that DEF crap for me.
LOL "full service." I remember the gas stations in Canada were all that way in the 70's and 80's. They must have thought people were too stupid to pump their own fuel. Ok some people are, but this is a simple enough task that anyone can make the mistake, and the full service station people are certainly not going to be less prone to these mistakes of habit, since they do this even more than anyone else.
Good comment but I would humbly recommend to reprocess your idea of driving your truck to the grave. My grandpa passed away back in 2019 and a hearse drove him to the grave. Seek out the face of Jesus Christ and you will find the Way, the Truth & the Life. He will take you to places further than your grave and beyond this life. Amen! I love you man!
I hate DEF.. We deal with it daily, I spilled some on my pants leg by accident and it burned like acid. I agree it's corrosive as hell and bad for engines.
About a gallon of DEF was put in my 2016 F350 6.7L and immediately realized the mistake. Vehicle has not been moved, engine has not been started and key has not been installed so no low side fuel pump operation. I have drained most of the tank (siphon) and plan on dropping and cleaning it thoroughly by rinsing with water and detergent. Will wipe it down as much a possible and then dry overnight. Any special considerations for cleaning the fuel sending unit or will wash and rinse be sufficient? Thanks.
How did this work out for you? I had the same exact game plan. Except I wasn’t planning on using a detergent 🤔 I have dropped the tank and drained the 25 gallons and a quart of DEF fluid out, I’ve been wiping all surfaces I can with clean lint free rags(hard to reach the ends on a 48 gallon tank). Then a final wipe with a rag with isopropyl alcohol and then a dry rag before it evaporates. Next I plan on flushing with a garden hose then drain, wipe and tilt it on its side overnight to drain every drop to one side. I plan on dumping fresh diesel on the low side pump or submerging it in a bucket full of diesel not quite sure yet. I’ll change filters and I like the idea the video owner mention of running 3 gallons of fresh diesel on the low side only just not sure where I should disconnect it at to do this?
Cleaning worked great. I did use detergent and wiped and dried thoroughly. I did replace filters, however did not flush lines with diesel. My key was never operated so the low side never pumped any of the contaminated diesel. After reinstalling tank, I filled full with fresh diesel. It will take several cycles to completely fill the lines so be patient. I would say if you did not operate the key following contamination, this will be sufficient. If key was operated, then lines will need to be flushed. Videos show the flushing is accomplished by disconnecting the line at the final filter and flushing into a container. Needless to say I will never make that mistake again!!!!! Good luck.
@@JohnBaggerly yes! Fortunately for me as well I never inserted the key after I made the mistake and I disconnected the batteries to stay on the safe side. I just want to run some fresh clean diesel through the pump since it was submerged in the contaminated diesel just in case there is anything in the pickup.
thanks for your post I used your cat fuel adapter to run cat filters on my duramax, that was the best improvement to the truck, wow what a difference in performance
I almost threw up when I dumped 3 gallons into my fuel tank two weeks ago. I had to start it for just about 5 seconds so I could put it in neutral and start it down hill to roll in front of my work shop. Well I dropped the full tank of fuel ( ouch $120 worth) and drained it. Washed it out with garden hose real good. The pickup pump and lines and fuel filter on the tank. Installed it and added 3 gal of power service and a gallon of Power service 911. Mixed with 5 gal of fresh fuel. Drove it for a while then added 5 more gallons. Drove it 230 miles then added a full tank. Kept adding Power Service 1 gal per full fuel tank. Drove it another 300 miles then changed both fuel filters. Cut them open and let them dry for a few days. Not one spec of crystal any where on any of either filter. I guess I lucked out. On a side note I did it twice before on my 2011 6.7. That was at 45k miles..Only a qt or so. Just drained the first filter every few miles then changed the filters out while adding lot's of power service for a while. Traded it in at 165k and still running smooth. No issues there. On a side note. Why didn't I just call Ford to come and tow it while it was just in the tank and I hadn't started it at all? Had too many important things to be done the next day and 1 week after and another 1 week after and another 1 week after. I went for it. At that point I didn't care what happed to the truck. Either it was going to run and do that all or frig it. I now have a locking gas cap that should help.
I recently picked up a 2011 ford f350 6.7 and found put that it has a full emissions delete. That would have to have a tune on it since it doesnt have any of the cats or dpf or anything like that anymore correct? And if it does is there any way we can get a tuner and flash our own tune on it or since it has a tune is it going to he locked to that previous tuner? Any info and help is much appreciated.

Hello $10,000 repair bill. Thankfully, my truck stop needing DEF once this roving band of thieves came in the night and stole some stuff out of my truck. I tell you , it was crazy! 😜
Is there any high pressure fuel pump that can be used on the Ford 6.7 besides the CP4.2? Any ideas why Ford is the only manufacturer that continues to use a known problematic pump? Thanks for the video.
I always liked my old 6.5 mechanical injected Chevy. Burned 5 gallons used cooking oil once due to station being out of diesel fuel. 10 gallons gasoline by accident topped off with diesel and quart of transmission fluid. Never bothered it. Tuff engine. These newer engines cannot take the abuse.
I got a question say ratio wise it was the other way around 6oz of diesel in a 4 gallon def tank. Is it a huge deal or would that be able to work itself out over time? I’ve heard both ways.
My wife accidentally put gasoline in my diesel. She drove it home and then realized it. I had it towed to the shop. They wanted $4000 to replace a whole bunch of crap and clean out the tank. I said I can’t afford it right now so I brought it home. I cleaned out the tank, put fresh diesel in it cleared the codes and I haven’t had a problem since that was two years ago
I don't own a Ford with a piss tank so this is a question. Can you put locking gas caps (keyed different) on the fuel fill and the DEF fill? This way you can keep a key to the DEF cap separate in the truck and only take the cap off for DEF fills? The fuel cap key won't take off the DEF cap this way.
I put a locking fuel cap on mine after hearing all the stories about people making that mistake. I doubt it would happen to me, but that's probably what everyone else thought too.
I put exxon fuel efficient in my 5.9 liter cummins dodge 3500 and it begin to miss on start up and going uphill it would stall out. This is in summer months, would exxon fuel efficient be to thin for warm summer months for this vehicle?

Question: Did you have issues immediately after putting the DEF in your fuel tank? How much damage was done and what was the fix? My insurance also will cover the repair, but hoping, and praying, that I didn’t put enough DEF into the tank (about a quart or so) to cause long-term damage. If it does, then we’ll figure it out with our Ford dealer. Thanks!
Okay Thoroughbred Diesel, what about contaminating the DEF? Someone put a gallon jug of windshield washer fluid on top of the shop DEF tank. A driver pulled up and, after years of using the hose and nozzle to fill his DEF tank with the clear DEF, he just grabbed the jug of blue fluid and poured it in. The dealer charged pocket change short of $1,200 to flush the DEF system. Was it really that critical to dismantle and flush the system or did the boss get taken?
Yes. DEF contamination is as critical as fuel contamination. Once you affect the DEF fluids ability to do its job, then your are looking at the possibility of sooting up the DPF which will decrease its life. It would be an expensive replacement.
@@thoroughbreddiesel Swapping out a DPF wasn't the worst job in that shop (unless they were still really hot!) but I always wondered how much the company paid to have them cleaned.
I just did that mistake. Put about 1 liter DEF (AdBlue) into my diesel tank. I was tired and distracted... realised while I was holding the bottle. Luckily it happened in front of the workshop. I didnt know that I shouldnt start the engine, though. I moved the car a few mteres. Workshop guys drained the tank. The following day I changed the fuel filter. Dont see any damage yet but reported situation to the insurance company. I lost nerves on that but hope it all gonna be all right. They really should put a large mark on the bottles and pumps with a clear sign that it´s super dangerous to the engine, if one does a mistake. I didnt realize the danger after I googled it all afterwards. At least Im smarter for the future.
My Mom accidentally did this on her 2016 ram, it cost 10,000. They have their auto insurance through Farm Burou and they covered the whole thing thankfully.
I have a 1984 Chevy K30/M1008 with the lowly 6.2 diesel. It's a totally mechanical engine that I can fix with a cresent wrench and pump pliers. It's never left me anywhere. LOL
I had an 86 K30/M1031 before this one. Bank's turbo wth a super duty 700R4 behind it. I'd out run 6.5's all day long. The 4.56 gear ratio killed these engines.
My Euro 6 BMW Diesel thankfully meets the standard without DEF or Ad Blu as we call it in Europe. Ad Blu is just another thing to detract from the cost saving of owning a diesel.
Mine is an 04 dodge with a common rail system. I worked on those from 95 from the injection pump period starting on engines made in the 60s that were still around to the 2014 def emmision systems. When I found out the exhaust gas recirculation set up was going on them in 2001 then the 07 and 10 emmision were comming , being the problems they caused with gas engines and the engineers that acknowledged that a loss of 20 % of the fuel economy was a guarantee due to that with reduced engine life. At the time they had the technology for it but the oils were not up to par they said for commercial purposes. I got mine in 04 when the common rail set up came available on the 5.9 which was similar to the set up on the N14 and I liked that set up.😁
Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸 everyone! Question: Do new Fords have issues with the fuel system contamination ?? Brother-in-law bought a brand new F350 back 2019. 7-4-2021: The truck has 38K miles and he had issues with the fuel system. Ford claims he has a contaminated fuel system due to “DEF in the gas tank” ??? He swears he has never mixed fuels. I saw the samples of fuel. It’s not crystallized or cloudy, if anything it looks like oil in the fuel. Ford is saying it’s a $13K job to fix (obviously not covered under warranty). He’s not the only person I know that was given the same solution by Ford. Is this some defect with Ford? Is there a way DEF can mix with diesel somewhere in the fuel system similar to how the EGR-coolers fail and allow coolant into the exhaust? Any advise would be greatly appreciated! I’d hate for other to cough up $13k for something Ford should be responsible for.
I just pumped 33 gallons of gasoline into my LMM at a BP station l, then drove it over 100 miles. It ran like shit at an idle, and a raped ape at highway speeds. I towed my truck home, drained my tank, changed my filters after pumping diesel through my fuel lines, and have zero damage to my truck. As a matter of fact, all my injector balance rates are right on, and I’m running beautiful.
funny but not funny.... I actually just put def in the fuel tank by not paying attention and worrying about the load on my truck. Caught it by the time I'd say about a qt and a half went in. The mechanic drained it and two-cycled it but this was after I started it. Didn't know the horror stories of what this could do only being a cdl driver for 3 months. Anyway, the mechanic told me it wasn't a lot and to run it. Ran it about 100 miles today, I told him tomorrow to drop it and clean it. Probably going to lose my job... FUCK DEF
your customer must have emptied those corn squezen jars before he left home, the cap is blue and say DEF only on the cap.. great video super informative.
Good video. This is my second time to watch one of your videos. The first one I got 4 minutes in and had learned nothing, not because I know a lot, but you talked a lot. So I left, glad I stayed for this one.
All depends how much. I put two quarts in. Was on phone talking not paying attention and added it to the tank. Drained fuel water seperator immediately and ran Diesel Kleen 911 in it. Full bottle. Drained seperator 4 more times over next 3 days of heavy driving. Added another bottle of 911. Ran tank and changed fuel filters. Ran seafoam through intake. Not one issue. I dont recommend doin it but if it happens... it doesnt have to be the end.
The DEF system is the worse thing they could have ever done to diesels..nothing good comes out from it. It cost more to replace the mess than to delete it!
Thanks for the info, very valuable. I have my vauxhall vectra 1.9 cdti on extensive engine repair and is seated for about 6 months with a full tank. Now I'm 100% sure, that I have to take out the fuel, clean the tank and refil it with fresh diesel.
So i got a 2001 24v and its been sitting i want to drop the fuel ta k clean it out ect.. new fuel and oil filters and oil change i worried about the fule lines would i have problem with algea in the injector lines too.
There will be a certain amount in there but the majority of it will be cleaned out when you drop and clean the tank. A run some clean fuel through the lines and then hook to injection pump. Should be good to go.
I have a 2019 Chevy work van diesel. It recently went in the shop and the Chevy dealer said there was diesel in the DEF tank. I don’t see how this happened. I never open both systems at the same time. The fill necks will. It even fit, we have to use an adapter to fill the DEF at our local county fueling center. Cost my county 2000.00 usd. The dealer says operator error but I’m calling BS. I’m the only person to ever add Diesel or DEF and they did not happen. I am stumped do these systems cross each other and have a back flow or check valve that may be bad. This has happened twice. ???
@ Gary Waldrop : Hmmm... sounds pretty fishy to me, like you were being scammed. The DEF tank is not part of the diesel tank at all. They cannot "intermix" unless you (or someone else) physically does it, like a dumbass.
I’ve had my F350 7.3L for 20 yrs now. Never heard of that stuff. Now I have. Googled it. Still not sure what it does. I’m glad I saw the video though. Thanks!
Basically according to modern emission standards , diesel engines produce too much nitrus oxide. In order to fix that a DEF fluid is injected into exhaust , where cemical reaction occurs and NO is broken into individual atoms of oxyegen and nitrogen.
@@OldFarmAcresJoelK. Don't know how your engine uses DEF or whether you are putting it into correct tank, but in my case (MAN truck/living & working in EU) I haven't seen any issues . If you are experiencing issues with your truck , you should probably see the mechanic.

I added def to a mason jar of diesel fuel and it separated perfectly. I don’t think it’s necessary to remove the tank. You can drain it several ways including allowing the fuel water separator do the job since def goes straight to the bottom of the tank. My ford has two fuel filters and will remove any grit that may come through. The fuel water separator and filters are there for a reason.

putting diesel in DEF tank (commonly known as AdBlue here in EU) won't do anything to your engine , just run it. What you don't want to do is put water instead of DEF (simply to save few bucks). That not only doesn't do anything but also increases harmful emissions.
@@karlomoharic3992 Wait, what? For heaven's sake DO NOT "run it" if you put diesel fuel in your DEF tank. Aside from potentially ruining your DEF pump and injector, you will be potentially spraying diesel fuel across a catalyst that runs anywhere between 500 and 1100-1200 degrees Fahrenheit. See where things could go bad?
@@jrmason4049 Nothing will happen. During normal operation DEF get's injected in very small quantities right before catalytic converter , at that point there is not enough heat or preassure to ignite diesel. As to the matter of your DEF injector clogging up , as long you only do this by mistake once or twice there is no real danger (you can also simply top the tank with DEF).I know a guy that did exactly this (obviously by mistake). There was no damage to his engine.
@@karlomoharic3992 You can't be serious! Your SCR catalyst is not designed to have raw fuel sprayed into it no matter the quantity. If enough was run through it, which wouldn't take much, it would be game over. That catalyst relies on a very specific chemical reaction and flooding it with diesel fuel would foul it in short order. Just because you know a guy that got away with it once doesn't mean it's ok. Diesel fuel is lighter than DEF so if he had any quantity of DEF in his tank he may have gotten lucky short term by the fuel staying on the top half of the tank. But I'm not convinced that there was no long term damage done unless the amount of fuel was VERY small. People get away with playing Russian roulette too, until they don't!

@@buckhorncortez I don't get it either. What really astounds me is we had some kids at work manage to fill the DEF tank with diesel. The three of them had to purchase a funnel to accomplish this and not one had the lightbulb in their head go off🤔
dude he had gas and diesel keys and people still got the wrong fuel in the wrong system
You can still delete them after warranty expires.
Or you can just pay attention on what you’re doing.....imagine that 🤪 The big green refill cap means fricken diesel fuel and the much smaller blue refill cap mean fricken DEF. Oh wait it gets better it even says it on the caps 😱
Thank god i have an old diesel so i don't have to have that glorified piss in it 😎
Same here 6.5 Detroit !
Ralf Risberg same here brother. Old skool six2 Detroit, and when i went to replace my daily gasser with a diesel pick-up, i knew i was buying a pre-01/01/2007 truck simply to avoid the whole DEF issue.
I'll get the missus to do it while I film her and then post it on the internet.
Amen firstgens rule !! 6 In a row ready to tow
Thank you for your kind words and when i get a diesel I'll check back.
I have an '03 F350 & never even heard of DEF until this video. Did some online reading as I was curious & just want to pass on a thanks for educating me about this. Great video!
Thanks! Glad we educated you about this potentially very costly mistake.
We used to all laugh about exhaust fluid. Now we have it. Quit laughing about blinker fluid. Its next
Yikes! Glad it may work out with that policy. This mistake can be very very costly. Very easy to do when distracted.
Delete and never use DEF fluid again
@Game Bred Duramax thats why the EPA makes you use DEF and they put all that other crap on diesels, its so you would burn more fuel and breakdown more and burn your trucks up faster
👍👍👍👍
Well said! I’m Deleted and happy😎
(Hence, why exhaust systems for DEF are all stainless)
But hey, what would I know about what fertilizer will do to metal??
I've only used it for 50 years....
It's all part of the big plan/scheme...
Ever had that galvanized fence post that everyone pissed on when you were kids? Bet it aint there today

Sorry to hear that.
I think I'm safe I don't own any Def, nor will I ever own a truck that needs it.

DEF works good for waterboarding
It's not called waterboarding if you use diesel

Thanks for sharing this. I think most of us know that its not a good mix, but I doubt everyone knew how catastrophic this could be!!!
I hate DEF.. We deal with it daily, I spilled some on my pants leg by accident and it burned like acid.
I agree it's corrosive as hell and bad for engines.
Owning a newer Diesel engine is definitely a headache with all emission laws
About a gallon of DEF was put in my 2016 F350 6.7L and immediately realized the mistake. Vehicle has not been moved, engine has not been started and key has not been installed so no low side fuel pump operation. I have drained most of the tank (siphon) and plan on dropping and cleaning it thoroughly by rinsing with water and detergent. Will wipe it down as much a possible and then dry overnight. Any special considerations for cleaning the fuel sending unit or will wash and rinse be sufficient? Thanks.
Get it clean. All of it. That’s the best advice I can give you. Make sure that you drop the tank and do not skimp on any of the cleaning.
How did this work out for you? I had the same exact game plan. Except I wasn’t planning on using a detergent 🤔
I have dropped the tank and drained the 25 gallons and a quart of DEF fluid out, I’ve been wiping all surfaces I can with clean lint free rags(hard to reach the ends on a 48 gallon tank).

If you were to put gas in your diesel and drove it. How long and what signs would you get from this happening?
It would lean out and eventually stop running.
For those in the UK, DEF is AdBlue.
After this happened to me. I put a locking gas cap on my truck just as a safty measure. One extra step required to mess up.

I don’t advise it, there will be a level on contamination there.
Hello $10,000 repair bill. Thankfully, my truck stop needing DEF once this roving band of thieves came in the night and stole some stuff out of my truck. I tell you , it was crazy! 😜
You're probably the same clever guy who claims he lost all of his guns in a boating accident...
Both ways its going to be contamination. And even those small amounts will be a bad deal.
Glad it turned out OK!
Why doesn’t someone make a locking DEF cap? A lot of damage can be caused by putting other stuff in there too!
Biology majors don't fix trucks..Technology majors do ..good video wade
I don't own a Ford with a piss tank so this is a question. Can you put locking gas caps (keyed different) on the fuel fill and the DEF fill? This way you can keep a key to the DEF cap separate in the truck and only take the cap off for DEF fills? The fuel cap key won't take off the DEF cap this way.
I put a locking fuel cap on mine after hearing all the stories about people making that mistake. I doubt it would happen to me, but that's probably what everyone else thought too.

Question:
Do new Fords have issues with the fuel system contamination ??
*puts def in fuel tank, now the fuel tank is doing regens*
funny but not funny.... FUCK DEF
do i have to put bluedef on my diesel truck? im new to diesels
Depends. Check your owner's manual.
your customer must have emptied those corn squezen jars before he left home, the cap is blue and say DEF only on the cap.. great video super informative.
Is DEF more spensive than regular diesel?
Good video. This is my second time to watch one of your videos. The first one I got 4 minutes in and had learned nothing, not because I know a lot, but you talked a lot. So I left, glad I stayed for this one.
Glad it was helpful!
7 new injectors eh i guess ide just replace all 8

The DEF system is the worse thing they could have ever done to diesels..nothing good comes out from it. It cost more to replace the mess than to delete it!
Thanks for the info, very valuable. I have my vauxhall vectra 1.9 cdti on extensive engine repair and is seated for about 6 months with a full tank. Now I'm 100% sure, that I have to take out the fuel, clean the tank and refil it with fresh diesel.

7.3 best engine ever made
Basically according to modern emission standards , diesel engines produce too much nitrus oxide. In order to fix that a DEF fluid is injected into exhaust , where cemical reaction occurs and NO is broken into individual atoms of oxyegen and nitrogen.
Karlo, def fluid is the worst thing for diesel engines making hard to breath and getting hot. It's all epa regulations.
@@OldFarmAcresJoelK. Don't know how your engine uses DEF or whether you are putting it into correct tank, but in my case (MAN truck/living & working in EU) I haven't seen any issues . If you are experiencing issues with your truck , you should probably see the mechanic.
I never really understood why they put the DEF filler right next to the fuel filler. Its like they want you to mess up.
Yea me too than again someone put the crap house next to the fun factory on our ladies. I don't complain.
Thank the diesel gods I have a 2005 Dodge Diesel.
Check those clamps on the injector lines, esp #4..
Ask me how I know this..
@@SegoMan please tell me.
I recently changed out my CP3 pump from Thoroughbred Diesel along with new belt. I inspected everything while I was in there. All looks good.
What are you referring to?
Hi Wade, thanks for the useful knowledge!
Thank you. That is why we make the videos.
How will cost to fix it ?
Depends on platform, anywhere between 5 and 8 thousand.
What was that noise at 4:08 to 4:12
hahaha, exactly! I would call it a „Lunch-echo“.

What's worse in a gas tank of diesel def or gas
Both bad but I would say DEF. DEF becomes a solid and might as well act like sandpaper being sent through your system.
Interesting information, thanks, I thought maybe it would be caught by the water separator, shows what I know.
Question. What is too cold of an operating temperature for a Cummins? My truck is normally under 180.
In freezing temps, I would let the truck warm a little before you push the engine too hard. That is a personal preference.
Sounds like you have a stuck open thermostat, usually Cummins thermostats opens at 185°F. Give me your ESN and I’ll look it up
I go to the DEF pump only for filling my DEF. Never would I buy a box of it simply because it gives your mind something to think about besides pumping def. opening the box, attachment of the spigot - all this can take my one-thing-at-a-time brain focus away lol If I use the pump it’s a separate transaction and I’ve already just fueled up so I’m less likely to undo the green cap. Just my 2 cents on how I do it. My 6.7 f250 is brand new so I’m overly cautious with her lol
Personally i would think oh I'm at a pump, it goes in the fuel tank. Where as with the box I have to go buy it, open it, assemble it and then pour it
Neo Craft steer clear of bio diesel as much as possible. These trucks do not like it and neither will your wallet when stuff starts going wrong.
WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot Sure will. I’ve heard that because if the bio characteristics. It is difficult to find Bio here in Ohio at least in my area.. I like good old fashioned crude only for my truck!
I have a 01 7.3 250 i havent seen anything for def, but this is my first deisel truck does mine require the def or what should i know about it??
@4:09 - I guess having that extra Danish was a bad idea....

How can I delete dpf system off of my truck? Is there a RUclips video that anyone can attach or of you know anyone in Wisconsin that does it....please help.
Good info wade.Hey just a shot in the dark but what do you think a 2005 ram 3500 long box full load with new BD injectors is worth has 250000 miles runs and drives great. Thanks

What if you put def in the def tank but used a dirty ish diesel nozzel that already had def run through the nozzle by mistake?
Would a cup full of def hurt if i put lucas fuel treatment in after
How can I mix it up .. blue top dpf green diesel
Can you run off road diesel instead of on road diesel? I have a farm truck that's diesel and wanted to know
powerram92 you can but it’s illegal, stiff fines. Off road is also dyed red so they can check your tank
@@sweetwilliam49 it's registered as a farm truck so it's not illegal.i just didn't know if it would hurt the engine
The high sulfur is better for the fuel components but will cause all kinds of problems with DPF systems
powerram92 as along as it’s tagged farm use you’re good. No it won’t hurt your truck, same fuel, just has dye added to denote no road taxes paid on fuel
Can you please tell me how to get in touch of the owner? Thanks
You can contact us directly here at Tbred, 866 737 4966
Glad I got a old one.
Ignorance is no excuse... if you a real deisel guy you wont make this mistake
wrong, a real diesel guy doesnt need piss in their truck
@@thecustommuffler well let me see here.. The EPA wont let companies delete the Emissions without hefty fines... New emissions:
Adds hole right next to the fuel fill

"Good luck"
What happens when you put in about of 1/2 gallon of gas in DEF tank
Same thing. It’s a contaminant to the DEF system. Doesn’t take out the injectors and CP4 pump, but it does contaminate the DEF injection system.
Awesome destroy it so its inoperable and delete problem solved
how about putting diesel in your DEF tank? a better mistake? just run it? Just curious.
putting diesel in DEF tank (commonly known as AdBlue here in EU) won't do anything to your engine , just run it. What you don't want to do is put water instead of DEF (simply to save few bucks). That not only doesn't do anything but also increases harmful emissions.
@@karlomoharic3992
Wait, what?
Actually on second thought , there is not enough air in exhaust at that point , to allow combustion to happen.
@@karlomoharic3992
You can't be serious!
People get away with playing Russian roulette too, until they don't!
what purpose does DEF have in a diesel truck?
