Diesel trucks and their reputation have gone through A LOT over the past 20 years, but there’s a technology looking to reinvent diesel systems and make diesel possible for the future. The U.S Environmental Protection Agency mandated the use of SCRs in conjunction with DEF in diesel engines. TODAY Dustin breaks down what ALL of this means to the diesel community and the future of the diesel truck!

Funny part is the EPA is concerned about emissions but all that smog crap effects MPG. My new 2500 Ram gets 18-21 mph at 65-70 mph. My friends truck that’s “deleted” get 24 mpg at the same speed. But he also has 22x12 rims on 35” tires. His truck is also tuned to not smoke at all. So why can’t manufacturers tune the factory truck to run cleaner and get amazing fuel mileage.

My 2012 2500 went from 12-14 to 21-24 MPG no smoke unless I turned the tune all the way up and dogged the shit out of it. It also helped cool the motor down I used as a work truck and it would get hot before the delete. Just bought the dreaded 6.4 looking forward to seeing how much a delete and tune helps

The problem with diesel emissions control is all of the secondary and third effects it has on the environment. Something like def may stop that “scary black smoke” but what about the cardboard and plastic that it comes in that goes into the trash. Or the plants and factories that create emissions to manufacture these items. What about the mines in Africa to get the palladium, rhodium, and platinum to build catalytic converters and DPF’s. Not to mention that these things decrease fuel efficiency which in turn causes more fossil fuels to be burned to create less work. All this to stop trucks from producing black smoke that doesn’t even go into the atmosphere. It is solid carbon particles that fall to the ground. It’s similar to getting raw coal and grinding it into a powder and dumping it on the ground. SMH 🤦‍♂️

I am a retired heavy equipment mechanic. Yeah, the EPA is a bummer. Wanna know what else is? Lung cancer at 50 for a non-smoking diesel mechanic because breathing diesel particulate is just as bad as breathing asbestos. I have fellas I worked with for 20+ years that died of cancer soon after retiring or didn't even make it to retirement. Coal miners get Black Lung disease. Diesel tuners back in my day, nearly just as bad. Honestly, the fellas that like to 'Roll Coal' on people is completely shameful. What I know about diesel particulate, that should be an assault with a deadly weapon. I'd like to see the manufactures do a better job in making these systems more dependable. Unfortunately, deleting the system doesn't encourage the manufactures to improve the systems. The manufacturer has your money. Not buying the trucks because the systems are not dependable is the only solution. Unfortunate wisdom is wasted on us old folks. You aren't going to look cool if you are missing a lung, Just sayin.

Just do some research about the emissions testing process in your state and find out what to be careful for. If you’re looking for a better sounding exhaust then a lot websites have emission passing exhaust kits. But a full delete from your egr to your def is not only expensive af but there’s no legal way to do it unless you are deemed exempt, if your state does that type of thing.

@@emptysoul4455 i see that. The whole world sees that. Here in Africa long time ago people used to DESIRE intensively to go to America. After the Trump became president a lot of people gave up on the American dream. No offense to you guys I mean I love America, a lot of the diverse cultures there shaped some parts of the world in a positive way but some of the things going on there is sketchy.

I think I own a unicorn. I have a bone stock 2015 ram ecodiesel. 0 problems and 180 000km on it. I tow a 8000 pound trailer about 5 times a year. I've thought about modding it but I figure I shouldn't mess with it untill it breaks.

35% urea and deionized water ! My question is when you burn urea it creates nh3 and co2 nh3 when in the atmosphere binds to droplets n creates acid rain , co2 is more carbon ! So are we just bleaching the smoke with mirrors?

Crap. Sorry about that last one. I work in the oilfield, and back in like 12 or 13 the tractor was used as the power supply for a lot of the equipment. (Coil tubing, in this case). When, not if, the def system cratered, depending on what you were doing, you could be blowing 800 bucks a minute waiting on a mechanic, who has to come out of Houston or San Antonio. (Think fishing with the frac still there, for those in the know). Thats just shy of 50000 an hour. Since i didnt have to pay it, i laughed my butt off!! Delete city, here i come with my 2021 ram 3500!!

Don’t delete, do a stealth delete! A stealth delete is where you make a hole in the DPF then throwing a pipe in the center of it so it’ll bypass all of it while passing a visual inspection. It’s like gutting a cat, but leaving the guts of it in there so if you tap on the can it’ll sound like it’s stock, but there’s a little secret in the center of it.

I want to get ahold of a 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali and I am thinking on the diesel but with these emissions systems constantly breaking I has me thinking the 6.6l v8 is a better option it makes me a little sad because Denali plus the Duramax luxury and power it is like taking senator Armstrong from metal gear rising and turning him into a truck without the bullshit known as the "def" or all the other parts of it I live in the states so deleting it if I get the diesel would not be a good Idea plus the sierra is what I want my future truck to be but non of that is what I came to talk about I just want to say don't you think their is a better way to do this reduce emissions thing but without the complexity like it works without constant maintenance and can be worked on at home so you think such a part for this engine can be created

I find the ammonia smell to be a bit overpowering. Why would anyone pay a ridiculous sum for wiper fluid? If you're going to put diluted soap in your exhaust, why not put the cheapest dollar store brand cleaner instead? Your exhaust could smell like pine trees, lemons or even flowers! Ammonia smells like piss. OR, you could plumb the injector somewhere more useful for an extra hit of methanol...

I really miss the smell of diesel exhaust… This seems really silly to me. Urea???? Can you pee in the tank then? I guess it’s Added like another catalyst or a catalyst fluid?
I just can’t imagine this is a solution to anything that could be done in a more efficient way, it’s such a workaround it makes me feel like Siri is probably another toxic chemical. This mixture is producing that we just don’t test or account for yet.

Yea the filter is also good for is holding back your trucks potential power and when the filter fucks up get ready to buy a 10,000 or 15,000 dollar engine that’s why as soon as I buy a diesel and get that fucker deleted and it’s like a whole other truck
