I was there. It was a great evening. Ace had been talking backstage that he was probably going to quit KISS.
And, I think this was in-fact his last live performance with KISS, until the reunion tour.

Eric Carr and l had an incredible time one night in the middle of the Adirondacks with my gorgeous wife after a Foghat show - an incredible drummer and true gentleman. Oh, the stories l could tell. I'm just some fool from upstate NY, who because he could sing, and sing pretty well, got to do some cool shit with very famous and extremely talented people.
RUclips: The Hittman, Brett Allen sings Bob Seger's Turn the Page...
What a tragic loss... but then l've lost so many over the years. What a talent. RIP

I remember watching this live back in the day. This is a very rare live performance on network tv that demonstrates how great Ace was and so important to the band. Yes, he’s not a great technical player but he played with style, feeling and a certain bravado. Love how he shakes his head here as he belts out the notes. Ah the good ole days ! It really is such a tragedy that Eric Carr didn't have a lot of great material to work with when he was in Kiss. He seemed like a great drummer that could have elevated good songs into great songs. But when he was in Kiss it seemed like his drumming was elevating mediocre songs into good songs.
I mean, Forever is a great ballad that he elevated to something truly special with his drumming. Creatures Of The Night is mainly as great as it is because of Eric having more creative control over what he played. The guy could have been the next John Bonham, but instead he was more like John Rutsey (great drummer who never showcased his full potential because of what he had to work with. Geddy and Alex weren't the same guys who wrote 2112 when he was with them).

They made mistakes on some songs on this album but they should have stayed the frickin course and kept trying to expand their sound. People say songs on this album are embarrassing. Ten minutes ago I was watching video with Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt talking about various albums he bought recently. I was not suprised he spoke highly positive about Music from the Elder, especially The Oath and Under the Rose. This is truly great album, no matter what traditional hard rock/heavy metal fans have to say about it. It would be even better if Paul was not singing falseto on Oath and Just a boy chorus and if they keep original Ace's solos - that's why the live version of Oath is so much better IMO.

young Kiss fans in Scandinavia had a different concept of the band since they were isolated from what American fans said or thought back then. The Elder was also undoubtedly a big influence on a certain Thomas Forsberg as well..
