Saw this live when it happened.
So much heavier than the record. I didn't like the record when it was released and still do not. It is a very good concept album, but a terrible KISS album.
Ace is awesome here. I have always liked his look the best.
I also liked the Ankh warrior concept.
I’ve always thought this was in their Top 10 albums. I still play it often.

Warts and all, I don’t mind this album. At times it doesn’t work, but it has its moments. The older I get, the more I appreciate it
I think Escape From The Island deserved the Grammy for best rock instrumental. Not that it was even nominated.

I think it’s a great album, too. They tried something a bit different. Some really good songs on the album.
It's an album that didn't have the right people. Imagine if they attempted it in the 2000's with people like Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish producing it.
What I love about this Fan Mix is how everything hits harder than in the actual recording. I love how heavy it is.

This album has become on of my favorites over the years, I didn’t like it when it was released. This is a great song.
Whoever did this polished ,did it right, the clarity ,is key to enjoyment.
That performance showed just how much ACE was missed for really he may have not been the most accomplished or technical but he fit like a glove

I don't know about you guys, back in those days you didn't know what the hell to think about this stuff when it came out, my mind went in 30 different directions with this new album cuz it wasn't to kiss I knew!!
But kiss definitely made up for everything when the creatures of the night came out it was a whole new sound from the elder!

now, everyone says they love this album. but that wasnt' the case in 1981, the KISS fans had all but abandoned KISS and it was their first album to not even go gold. but i believe as time has gone by, people realize its a really good album. i love it. but i was too little to appreciate it when it was brand new..
And some fans such as myself, still don't like it. Been a fan since '75 through the good and bad. For me this was bad.
@@JohnLesniewski-np7jg i wasn't of "music age" till the late 80s. and my first exposure to KISS was Revenge. so when i would read in magazines about the elder, i bought the cassette at a flea market, and i actually quite liked it. but i do understand people like you that were in the record buying age, and having 3 lame records in a row, after some serious dangerous sexy hard rock of the first six albums and some of the solo album stuff. to me i like the elder better than Dynasty and Unmasked, other than the Ace songs on those albums.
I was there. Loved it then, love it now. But NOBODY was talking about the Elder…. Crickets everywhere.

Yeah this mix is much better, I could hear that double bass before but it was so buried... but also in hindsight this isn't as Dungeons and Dragonsy as it was when it first came out. I think that was a lot to do with the failure of it at the time. We kids then weren't all doing the RPG stuff like they all tried to make it out in the press at the time and even the concepts of the castles and hobbit style story albums were already fading by the time this hit the shelves, at least in Memphis and a lot of other markets. Punk and thrash were already starting to be the alternative to movie stylism. Anyway, this mix would have possibly made a huge difference seeing as how double bass was just starting to come around.

My first Kiss concert was in 1977. I paid $12 for me seat. My dad almost killed me for spending that amount!
I preferred KISS when they "failed". It was always more interesting than when they followed formula. I love all their stuff even Carnival Of Souls.

I actually liked Music From The Elder. First saw KISS at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. Sept 6, 1976. $6 general admission. Those days are GOME ;)
And they redeemed themselves with Creatures of the Night - one of their best albums ever. . I saw Eric Carr play with the band at Maple Leaf Gardens for the Creatures tour. I'll be 60 in May lol. And Eric has the best hair by far in this video. Ace might not have played on the album but he sure as heck sold tickets. The Gardens was half-empty for that show, but it was amazing.
And Paul still has the best voice in rock and roll. Its a shame he got old. But then again we all do.

I like that Ace includes a solo for the live performance, but it does not quite hit right. Imagine if Ace had hung around and played on Creatures of the Night though...wow, that would have been pretty awesome.

Wonky solo. I like Paul's better. I remember watching this on Fridays when it first aired. I was shaking my head. Very disappointed. I was hoping to see Paul playing instead.
