The phenomenal part of this performance, outside of it being an amazing crystal clear version of some of the earliest days of the band, is how you can actually hear each member’s voices when they’re singing, even Ace on “Nothing To Lose”.
Back when Paul and Gene wanted it. Going to a Kiss concert in the late 70’s was an event. You waited for hours in line to get tickets, usually partied in the parking lot beforehand and the concerts lived up to the hype. The next week you were still talking about it.

@Johnsmith-the Beatles were the model for pretty much everything in the beginning as far as the band structure, stage setup, etc. They wanted to be the hard rock version of them. Two main lead vocalists, quiet, understated lead guitarist and charismatic drummer. They did a great job of it too. 👍🏻 “John and Paul” became “Gene and Paul”. Their names are even similar sounding…John Lennon=Gene Simmons and Paul McCartney=Paul Stanley. Maybe coincidence, maybe serendipity, maybe by design. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Does it get any better??? The youth, the energy, the drive, how on point they sounded when they were hungry! Listen to how perfect Ace was on every fucking solo!!! Gives me goose bumps!!!
They also couldn't match him got technical playing, either. There's demo recording before the first album that grey did themselves and you xsn hear Ace playing a number of progressions, not just pentatonic.
They played very well here, had all their parts well rehearsed, had their stage moves rehearsed, and never missed a beat/note while singing. Peter did exceptionally well singing! Yep. I bought a KISS AM radio around that same age in the 70's. I recently sold it for over $400 on ebay. Some of the old original issue stuff is highly collectable. Cheers!
When I was in my Teens in the 70s, one of my favorite activities was hanging out in the local record store browsing the alphabetized record racks searching for something new and interesting. At that time there were no "listening stations", or really cool radio stations where I lived, so often the only thing a young album buyer (at $4.99/lp) had to go on was the album cover, the name of the band, and the names of the songs. My mind was BLOWN when I saw KISS's first album cover. I KNEW, with the makeup, hair, and studded dog collars that HERE was something VERY SPECIAL. Needless to say I spent my allowance on this amazing LP. Soon after I saw this on "In Concert" in 1974. It has been a Love Affair ever since (up until "Dynasty" (1979) which REALLY SUCKED and I saw as a betrayal to the original Kiss Fans who had helped launch this great band into upper orbit). Regardless, the pre "Dynasty" albums are GOLD. And, while many bands come and go (and who will be forgotten over time) thousands of years from now KISS will still be recognized in Music History as "The Hottest Band in the Land".

I remember that KISS were GODS in those days!!! If u were lucky enough to grow up in those days u know what I mean when I say it was just MAGIC!!!!
Young and hungry, at the top of their game here. Criss's raspy screaming delivery on Black Diamond always was a favorite of Releasing Alive the next year was a desperation, do or die move.
Great to see the chemistry and togetherness they had at one time. Before the issues and egos got in the way. They were all In this together to reach the pinnacle. You can tell by watching them they really appreciated one another back then
I absolutely love seeing early performances of KISS. The most peculiar things are, that rainbow spanning the stage and the polite applause at the end of each song
Born is ‘66 I was still 3 or 4 years away thinking Kiss was the best band in the world. I couldn’t wait for any Tv appearance, or new magazines anything new…. Then came the movie, I watched on a 19” B&W tv and Loved it…lol. Good Times!
I saw this on TV, and saw in the newspaper the next day that they 2re coming to Chicago at the Aragon " Brawl Room" I believe in the summer I got tickets right away. It was Hydra, UFO, T-Rex ( one of his last shows ever) and Kiss!
This is great. Gene and Ace's mock 'flirting' made me laugh out loud! So great to see them looking young, rough and ready and, best of all, really enjoying being together and sharing their music. There's a palpable sense of unity and brotherhood. A world away from the bitter, hardened old men they became. Lovely stuff. Thanks for uploading!
@@christopherlees1134 Yeah, to be fair he seems the most chill out of the four. Paul and Gene make up for that with being extra bitter, hardened and cynical. Ace is my fave tbh.
Exchanging vocal leads, Criss absolutely killing it in "Black Diamond" - this is the early KISS that I remember from childhood & high school. Thanks for a great posting !!
This is very high quality. What a find and thank you for uploading it. If only the 4 egos could get along. But they put together some amazing music while they were together.
Oh my god. This is what got me into Kiss and music in general when I was very young and I havent seen it since. Playing Kiss albums on a kids flip open box record player. Thanks!
Don't tell me that Gene Simmons did not enjoy Ace Frehley's company, cuz I see them singing Nothin' to Lose, and Ace blows Gene a kiss in between words, and Gene licks the air in response. They were having fun. You don't do that shit with someone you don't like!
Original Kiss was so good. After Midnight Special we ran out and stole the first album. Don't worry... We bought everyone album after, posters, and multiple Kiss concerts right up to the Love Gun Tour. Oh and turned half of Green Bay Wisconsin into Kiss fans from playing it nonstop at our big parties. 😁

Although in 77 he surprised me and my brother with tix to see them at MSG, I think he was an undercover Kiss fan.. my very first concert , 76 maybe 77 I was 9 or 10 I begged my mom , she took me to see them, they opened for STYX .......it was the only time I ever saw my mother smoke a cigarette, some guy handed her a lit one she hit it and passed it on...........ahhhh the naivety of youth !

I remember watching this. Loved it, they were so powerful. I love the candelabra, so cool. Some years later, we started a garage band Kiss songs were what we learned first. Saw them at the old Chicago Stadium in January 1978, what a show! 20th row main floor middle. Confetti fell on us and when the flames erupted, you could feel the heat!
Peter Criss was living off of his wife before Gene and Paul came along and made his ass rich and successful, due to their hard work and intelligence. Were they are to work with? I’m guessing yes. Nowhere near as difficult as Peter turned out to be, though.
Remember it and not being able to process what I was seeing. Bought “ Alive” and same thing, then saw them live in ‘75 and never stopped . They absolutely sledge hammered their way to the top and never forgot or stopped giving the kid who scraped together his money for a ticket the best show ever.

My God I remember seeing this when I was just 7 yrs old and just being mesmerized!! What a innocent and just glorious time!! And also a band that wasn't afraid to actually play LIVE on television!!!
I was 14 years old in 1974. And when I first heard these guys they knocked my socks off!!!!
I was born in 73. Kiss was my first concert. 1987 Crazy Nights tour. Ted Nugent opened for them.
My first concert also. Ted played a little better 😊😊😊😊
Thanks so much, this is the KISS I remember!
Excellent remaster. Takes me back. Ferocious and hungry band at this time. The four of them amazing.
I saw this live on TV. When I was 14 and my mouth was open in, my eyes were wide. I was hooked. BLACK DIAMOND finally was pure rock n roll
Born is ‘66 I was still 3 or 4 years away thinking Kiss was the best band in the world. I couldn’t wait for any Tv appearance, or new magazines anything new…. Then came the movie, I watched on a 19” B&W tv and Loved it…lol. Good Times!
Sorry u had to see "phantom" in b&w ... hope u upgraded since 😜
I remember watching this episode of In Concert because the next day I went out and bought there 1st album.
I saw this on TV, and saw in the newspaper the next day that they 2re coming to Chicago at the Aragon " Brawl Room" I believe in the summer I got tickets right away. It was Hydra, UFO, T-Rex ( one of his last shows ever) and Kiss!
One of the best places to see a show in Chicago! That must of been an amazing show. The Aragon Ballroom should be a historic landmark.
7 years old...i waited up for this and fell asleep...woke up right as it ended...the best band in the world...
Ace isn't bitter or hardened at all, in my opinion.
@@christopherlees1134 Yeah, to be fair he seems the most chill out of the four. Paul and Gene make up for that with being extra bitter, hardened and cynical. Ace is my fave tbh.
well said. This was a magical time in their way to the top. can only guess Dick Clark was stunned by this performance.
They were at the top of their game👍
Exchanging vocal leads, Criss absolutely killing it in "Black Diamond" - this is the early KISS that I remember from childhood & high school. Thanks for a great posting !!
This is very high quality. What a find and thank you for uploading it. If only the 4 egos could get along. But they put together some amazing music while they were together.
They were so great ! Ace and Paul were riff masters. That is the real KISS !
Peter’s rhythm especially groovin here. And Ace guitar sounded thick. All around tight.
Oh my god. This is what got me into Kiss and music in general when I was very young and I havent seen it since. Playing Kiss albums on a kids flip open box record player. Thanks!
I sat in the living floor and watched this! What memories!!
Wow 1974 !!? Its been that long ago im 65 now
Don't tell me that Gene Simmons did not enjoy Ace Frehley's company, cuz I see them singing Nothin' to Lose, and Ace blows Gene a kiss in between words, and Gene licks the air in response. They were having fun. You don't do that shit with someone you don't like!
1974 , When Rainbows were still RAINBOWS!!!
and KISS was KISS
Amen!
Fuggem.. let’s take back the rainbow those idiots took from us.
I got that
My thoughts exactly! wtf happened??☹🤡🌎, that's what!!
uh oh, watch out. another critical thinker offended by symbology.
Peter brought alot of energy to these early performances
A shame the songs didn't sound this heavy and raw on the LPs.
Kiss was my first concert back in 1978 when i was in eight grade. Fantastic!!
I was just 11 yrs old when I saw this, my dad looked at me like I was nuts for watching and liking KISS.. Although in 77 he surprised me and my brother with tix to see them at MSG, I think he was an undercover Kiss fan.. He took us again in 79' he came out of the show singing Dr.Love.. it was then I knew that Dad was Definitely a KISS fan.. He was a Good Man..
Aww, you lucky dog! Loved Dr. Love! ❤️
Thanks!! I was a freaky lil 8 year old NW Indiana Kiss Army brat-this really brings back great memories!!!!
I was only less than a year old, but just in a few years, I would become a total KISS fanatic! This’ pure joy to see this.
my very first concert , 76 maybe 77 I was 9 or 10 I begged my mom , she took me to see them, they opened for STYX .......it was the only time I ever saw my mother smoke a cigarette, some guy handed her a lit one she hit it and passed it on...........ahhhh the naivety of youth !
Saw them September 1977 in Ft Worth,Styx opened for them!! I lost my voice, ears rang for days, neckvwas sore+the 2nd hand smoke i couldn't shower it off me!! I had the worst seat in the place but didn't care!!😂
Another marvelous bit of Rock History! Your talent is most appreciated for renewing these little known gems! I watched this w-a-y back when, Thank You once again for Your skills, time, effort and consideration Sir!
Wow. Thanks for bringin back this nostalgy to us fans that were there from the start (and still alive)
I remember staying up to watch this..I was. 11 yrs old.🤘
Biggest kiss fan in the early years the stars were aligned
Those of us that were around at those times: economy was in the tank, fuel shortages, inflation, but we sure had AWESOME entertainment! KISS, Van Halen, and Star Wars was around the corner!
just Wow 👍👍. 1974 great quality filming and sound. Youngsters , Peters and Pauls voice sound amazing. Gene has always sounded good. thanks for posting 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I was not a big Kiss fan in my teenage years(the 80's) but I have come to appreciate them more in my middle age years. They were ahead of their time for sure. My LP collection of them has sure grown.
This is my childhood!!! I was obsessed! First concert & everything but it was 1988 no makeup. Still awesome! So crazy how Gene can transform himself. He’s an old man now, but still kicking it!!!!
Paul Stanley is a highly underrated vocalist !!!! 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🤘🤘🤘🤘
70s Kiss will always be the best Kiss era.
Utmost love and respect for the stellar job you did on this - this is an absolute joy to watch and listen to loudly! THANK YOU!
I was 7 when this was on TV, been a die hard fan every since!
This sounds rad🤘🏼. It's about the music, the band, the era. So cool, so wild, so crazy.
Great job you did here fantastic !!! Thank you for your dedication the results are amazing compared to the original 100 percent improvement in audio and video your hard work is appreciated by all Kiss thanks Thanks again, Sir!
my first concert, kiss with rush opening 1976ish..... memories return ten fold.....
Highlights how important Peter Criss was to the Kiss chemistry, very early days before the noose of control started to choke out two members.
Peter Criss was living off of his wife before Gene and Paul came along and made his ass rich and successful, due to their hard work and intelligence. Were they are to work with? I’m guessing yes.
Nowhere near as difficult as Peter turned out to be, though.
The noose of control was the drug and alcohol abuse of Frehley and Criss
Remember it and not being able to process what I was seeing. Bought “ Alive” and same thing, then saw them live in ‘75 and never stopped . They absolutely sledge hammered their way to the top and never forgot or stopped giving the kid who scraped together his money for a ticket the best show ever.
I saw em in 75 in Omaha Nebraska.
I’m 60 and still a fan.
I really like Peter voice rockin Black Diamond
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. A KISS fan
Guitar tones are phenomenal!
Thanks for posting this. Let's me go back to when I was young and rocked out in the rock room, man just to go back for just a little while.
Looks like they're having an awful lot of fun. Must have been a great time to be in that band from 74-78.
Good job with the audio clean up. I don’t remember it sounding this good on my little black and white television in my room in 1974.😂
Saw Alive 2 at the Philly Spectrum 78’ with pre Highway to Hell AC/DC. Blew the roof off 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
