The boy has no idea who KISS is, what KISS is or how KISS is, he just knows he has to have this album and listen to it ASAP. He begs his dad to buy it for him and somehow after some back and forth, his dad agrees and puts the album in the shopping cart. All the boy is thinking about is getting home and playing the album on his dad's awesome stereo system in their finished basement. When they get home, the dad asks his older teenage daughter to setup the record for her brother. So they go downstairs, then the boy takes the plastic off to find that the album opens up and there are 2 records in there with letters from each member of KISS in the gatefold. I like Ace but again No Paul no Kiss. No Ace still did it was my point. Bruce Kulick is a hell of a guitar player. Frehley's Comet Meh. If Ace went on and had a Phil Collins like career with Paul and Gene then we got something to talk about.
@@jonvisser1509 He also wrote Strange Days and Cold Gin. Both great songs. He didn't sing them because he didn't have the confidence to sing. Gene and Paul were the mainstays always. Paul was just a dime a dozen rhythm guitar player and Gene was barely functional as a bass player. But they definitely had showmanship.
Listen to those guitars so distorted so loud and bombastic. Kiss during their first three albums was so raw. Rock and Roll striped down to the bare ingredients.
Why are people picking on this with Kiss? It's 2023, all current bands are in their geriatric phase because there are no good new bands... or at least not comparable to the past. Aerosmith is retiring, Metallica should've retired already, Phil Collins/Genesis has retired, The Who also should've retired already (but they put a well produced show like Kiss still)... it's like people say that for the sake of babbling.
I was 13 when Kiss began. I remember the night I first listened to their debut album like it was yesterday. Even though this year makes 50 since both the first album and Hotter Than Hell were released. I was instantly hooked. Just a wonderful time to be growing up with bands like Kiss, Led Zep, Purple, Sabbath, Grand Funk. I feel sorry for the kids today. They have nothing but junk, and don’t even know it.
Always menacing. Real emotional content. It's not just music, it's rock and roll theatre. Kiss is in your face and you can't take your eyes off them. In the 70's they shocked the world. My mother bought tickets when I was a kid, and my grandfather talked her out of it. Still to this day, she says she wishes she would have taken me. I eventually saw them later in life. I've been playing guitar and singing for over 25+ years now. Music has been a big part of my life for a long time. Im so glad youtube is here. We can see our heroes jamming in their prime.
Weird thing, I stumbled across some early footage a while back that I thought I heard Paul Stanley state, " Peter Criss wrote all 3 of the first KISS albums" ??? don't know where I come up with odd discovery?
@@timshanemelton in 1973 debut Peter did write 3 songs and ace wrote Cold gin on the way to practice on the subway back then they put all their names on the credits to show unity.
One of the all time greatest songs in heavy rock. Better than most so called rock songs from the biggest bands. Brilliant musicians and singing, they had it all and that’s not even taking into account their look , stage persona and stage show. I mean no deep purple rainbow, zeppelin song sounds like this. Totally awesome.
That's the thing with the 70s mainstream rock: no band sounded the same. Kiss harsher critics often forget that they are from the same generation as Motorhead, Rush, Aerosmith... they all sound different. The generation that influenced a lot of future bands...
@cyberpsychgreen : cuz I have a say! LoL, cuz it populated to my queue so I clicked, gave it a chance but I've always thought what I've thought... I'm from the Schenker school so sue me. 😅 Gene will, it's in his genes😅😅😅
No kids could control what they were seeing and hearing for the first time back then. It just captured you and drew you in, because of the shock factor. I didn't get into Schenker and UFO until about a year later with the album, Force It. I love that LP! UFO was just starting to gain a foothold in the U.S., where Kiss took America by storm with the Alive LP.
@4tuneagent although I was only 13 or 14 at the time , I didn't find it shocking. I think I found it to be preposterous or embarrassing. But I do agree/understand what you're saying. In my defense, I think it was embarrassing cuz I had already heard alot of Zeppelin, Sabbath, etc etc and had started playing guitar when I was 9. Started with Rory Gallagher with TATTOO’D LADY vinyl and persisted up to today with Greta Van Fleet. As Rob Halford says “KEEPING THE ROCK ALIVE “, my mantra. 🎸👍🇨🇦
I think Paul Stanley said that during this time,They would call their record label after a gig about their money, and the phone would be disconnected because the label was struggling like them!! You can hear it in their sound. They sounded better when they were struggling.
@@zyrrhos ELP *welcome back to the show that never ends* my 1st! Saw KISS 6 times before they parted ways. I was a massive concert fan. Tickets were 5 to 10 dollars. Paid 3.50 for lesser acts! 70's best for teens and I'm so thankful!
This was and is the greatest single performance of Deuce in this band’s history ( IMHO!). Everything about it is perfect! The tempo, the choreography, the vocals, the (simple) pyro, the attitude, the outfits……EVERYTHING WORKS! I’m loving the improved clarity and resolution on this clip. When I was in my teens (66 now) I recorded this off of my tv with a Super 8mm movie camera, had it developed, waited what seemed like a month to get it back, and took it into work with my projector. Even with no audio, minds were blown. Glad I got in on the ground floor.
it's incredible when you comprehend that was live, the stage craftsmanship, the musicianship.. did miss a note, tempo was spot on.. etc. They earned in full the life they all have had.
Looking back now, (born in 1968), and IMO KISS was a unique band that whether they were trying to or not, catered to boys like me that were born between 1960 and 1970. If you were a strong fan of R&R they were a stepping stone, but that said, they did put on one hell of a show, and they "were" a hard working band, as stated by Getty Lee, who with RUSH toured together for a good part of the early to mid 70s. I couldn't tell you what albums they did after the solo ones and Dynasty 79/80, but I did finally get to see them in the year 2000 and was pleasantly surprised at how tight they still were and the kick ass high energy show they could still put on. They were also probably the best marketers of their merchandise of "any" band of their era, so hats off to those 4 guys. My GF and I watched Ace spill out of a Sunset Bl hotel in 1998, before Gene got out of a limo and helped him into it. Was 11am and they were getting some award that night. (True Story) and we didn't even know who that long haired guy was until Gene got out of the car to help him.
I grew up in the 80's and loved glam metal KISS but this rocks too. They were the best rock band in the world on this particular day with this performance.
Wicked. This is the band my mom wouldn't let me go see in concert when I was 13. They were too dangerous! Or at least that's what parents thought in the '70s.
And this typical of post-Boomer America. It’s not that lame KISS actually had good music; no, they were “popular” because they pretended to be bad guys that the parents didn’t like. In reality, they were always spoiled little girls, especially the singers. Gene “Simmons” is the biggest lame on the planet.
Man, those guitars sound like they're coming from some other dimension they are so juiced and full of power. And anyone who listens to two bars of any Ace Frehley solo knows he really knows what he's doing there. You take the bells and whistles off and strip it all back and man, these guys were the best band in the world when they wanted to be.

@@stephenallsman8913 KISS never opened for Rush, it was the other way around.
@@davidcoulombe3924 I never said they did. I meant Rush opening songs
I've never really been a KISS fan, but they are killing it here. This is my favorite song of theirs, and with the young, raw, hungry energy of the performance… you can see why they got huge.
Same here. Not a fan anymore. Awesome song. There energy here is incredible! They were hungry for success.
Mainly because of the makeup... but this is a good performance...
Never cared for them & I love glam rock aka Bowie~T Rex etc…they looked corny
The boys could really rock back in the day. And Ace's vibrato is so good. Nice and wide with perfect pitch. Love it!
Lotta Paul Kossof in his playing
Esto no es en vivo creo😅
@user-tn4fd6tp3p 100% live my friend.
Ever heard the story of Ace’s vibrato? Look it up, it’s a good one…it’s hard to believe that someone could be a generational talent on the guitar and have never had a lesson nor any formal music instruction of any kind.
KISS wasn't always respected at the beginning of their popularity, but they had a Hall Of Fame lead guitarist.
Yes but I hate how Gene and Paul treated Peter and Ace.
HOF line up always. Without Paul stanley and Gene simmons no Lead guitar to put anything to Ace cannot write much. Shock me Rocket Ride? Not a whole lot more. Paul is Kiss Without him no Love Gun I stole your love Detroit Rock city Heaven's on Fire ect. People always wanna dog him but he was the Band. Bruce Kulick is actually better player than Ace. Ace is funny entertaining guy.
@@jonvisser1509 his entertainment and charisma speaks in his guitar playing , theres a reason why Dimebag Darrel got a tattoo of Ace on his chest
But Pete and Ace completed the picture. At least Ace was a real musician. Maybe not the best but influenced many players. Paul was just a dime a dozen rhythm guitar player and Gene was barely functional as a bass player. But they definitely had showmanship.
This is brilliant.
A young and hungry KISS.
Are you on their payroll ;-)
@@vimfuego8827 Are you on the rag?
Ace is cooler than the other side of the pillow.
What I always loved about the band was how raw it was. Great example.
Listen to those guitars so distorted so loud and bombastic. Kiss during their first three albums was so raw. Rock and Roll striped down to the bare ingredients.
The were definitely one of the hardest working rock bands. I remember as a kid waiting for anything Kiss, posters, albums, magazines ..
Man, what a great band KISS was when they were young and hungry. This performance is special.
I was just thinking that same thing. This right here, is the one that needs to be in the Smithsonian. This is what made KISS.
Saw them in 1975. Rush opened for them. I paid $ 3.50 for my ticket.
*TRIBUTE BAND. SEE THE VIDEO NOTES*
@@redacted2275 Who is picking on Kiss here? Not sure what you are talking about
ACE - THE KING OF SOLOS WITH FEELING🤘🤘🤘
He definitely delivered the spice that added to the mix.
Seeing this live on TV was an amazing experience back in the day.
Great number! Kiss' debut album is so good, they were a fun band
That is what made kiss the juggernaut it is today was the original 4
👌👏👏👏👏👏😉🔥🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸🎤🎤🎤🎤
Y Ledd Zeppelin. DEEP PURPLE. THE WHO. SLADE...
I've watched this 20+ times and just noticed Gene's ankle during the intro @:05 - 07 seconds. Close call. Adrenaline kept him from breaking it.
Being 25 years old probably helped too. It's amazing he stayed on his feet. This is why women were created to wear shit like that lol
yup i saw that a while back. I did the same thing dressed up as Ace one Halloween,,, it was painful,,, and took a while to heal.
They put on geat concerts in the 70's and early 80's. I went to several as a teen.
Ace is so good and plays so weird. Very unique!
Stuff that legends are made of.. Suddenly tens of thousands teenagers become Kiss fanatics overnight.. including me!..
Not me

Also , an older neighbor friend had me playing rhythm on a few UFO tunes so he could play the accompanying lead breaks
Say what you want about Peter Criss and his drumming skills but from ‘73-‘76 he was a force.
Drugs and booze destroyed him, man... Peter was really tight on drums...
@@onerandombruh I agree. It’s too bad. That early stuff from him was fantastic.

Peter was phenomenal on KISS Alive!

I was ten years old in nineteen seventy nine when I saw my first ever concert, kiss and cheap trick at the pontiac silverdome in pontiac michigan.
A band not afraid to add bass to the mix. Kudos.
This is prime KISS at the height of their musical powers. Pure magic here.
I would argue that this is ascending to the height of their dominance 77/78 was complete world domination
The ENERGY of this performance is AWESOME. Love it.
Kiss always brought it for the fans. Always
Well, it’s 2024 and the good times are certainly not rolling😢, but we, and I mean us old farts (at 68) have had the best music of our lives pass by our ears and hearts, me since ‘72 when I got my first rock n’ roll album. Started with Rory Gallagher with TATTOO’D LADY vinyl and persisted up to today with Greta Van Fleet. As Rob Halford says “KEEPING THE ROCK ALIVE “, my mantra. 🎸👍🇨🇦
Great post!!
70’s KISS will always have a place in my heart.
I think Paul Stanley said that during this time,They would call their record label after a gig about their money, and the phone would be disconnected because the label was struggling like them!! You can hear it in their sound. They sounded better when they were struggling.
Saw this on TV and instantly found my favorite band! ❤ September came and I got to see them in concert! ❤😊
Saw them the following year on the Destroyer tour. My first concert ever. Blew my little mind. Also caught them a few years later on the Dynasty tour.

Love it back then all 4 one they seem to be operating as one unit
This was and is the greatest single performance of Deuce in this band’s history ( IMHO!). Everything about it is perfect! The tempo, the choreography, the vocals, the (simple) pyro, the attitude, the outfits……EVERYTHING WORKS! I’m loving the improved clarity and resolution on this clip. When I was in my teens (66 now) I recorded this off of my tv with a Super 8mm movie camera, had it developed, waited what seemed like a month to get it back, and took it into work with my projector. Even with no audio, minds were blown. Glad I got in on the ground floor.
Wait until someone applies some of the new AI filters on this. It will look like a 4K video like it was shot yesterday.

70's rock
The no-makeup era definitely had its share of gems, but the makeup era will always be their pinnacle musically.
Ace fuckin Frehley!!! The god of rock and roll!!! This man killed it on the guitar!!! The best member of KISS!!!! Hands down!!!
Wicked. This is the band my mom wouldn't let me go see in concert when I was 13. They were too dangerous! Or at least that's what parents thought in the '70s.
When I was 13, my mom wouldn’t let me go to the ANGEL-RUSH2112-BOC concert..I’m still pissed at her!! RIP mom🙏🏻
Your parents were right. They were dangerous!😏😄😀
Hell, this is babyshit compared to what's come out since.
They’re too lame
I was hoping to see this one in high quality. Love their early stuff.
My introduction to KISS, way back when. And life would never be the same🤟

Ace was effortlessly cool. Never overdoing it and yet a star.
So killer! Space Ace’s playing is so good! I’m sure someone already pointed this out but I believe the ending was edited from the She clip.
Back in the day, they were unreal, I still wonder what it was like when they were rehearsing these songs, "hey at this part let's all shake our heads left, left, left, right and repeat for 4 bars..."
I remember waiting for weeks for this performance. Was the first time I ever saw KISS on TV. People forget that they were pretty heavy for the times.
This would have been earth-shattering in the day. Part of me still loves it today.
This one of my favorite Gene songs still love rocking out on this track. Greatest band in the world ! Kiss army till I die.

First time I saw this, I was instantly addicted!! KISS was hungry and pissed off, loved the attitude back then. Then I went to see KISS Alive 2 and was blown away.
Still one of the coolest rock songs ever. We watched them that night with absolutely no clue as to who they were…it was stunning.
Stayed up late to see KISS live for the very first time. Bought the record based on the cover, then was a converted KISS fan permanently after this performance (the entire segment). Started building wooden guitars and putting on KISS shows in the backyard whenever we had family (an audience) over.
Looks like THIS would have been the time to see them. I was just a grade school kid back then though. 😐
It would have been awesome to go back 50 years and see KISS in concert back then. They were young and full of energy. I bet their concerts were awesome back then.
They were! I was 15 and saw them twice around this time.

Saw them in 1977 the night Elvis Presley passed away at the Cow Palace in San Francisco with Cheap Trick as the opening act. What a show!!!!!!!!! 👍
what a show, what a show!
Yeah, we know Alive! was mostly re-recorded in the studio but tell me that this live performance sounds any different.
I think they touched it up but most of Alive! was genuinely live
They dressed up 𝐾𝑖𝑠𝑠 𝐴𝐿𝐼𝑉𝐸! in the studio with overdubs galore. We all know this. But I do NOT think that live album is a fraud or a sham. There are hundreds of live concert video clips on YT that verify the true musicianship of Kiss circa 1973-75. 𝐾𝑖𝑠𝑠 𝐴𝐿𝐼𝑉𝐸! does clearly and cleanly represent what a live Kiss show was like back then.
𝐾𝑖𝑠𝑠 𝐴𝐿𝐼𝑉𝐸! has to be one of the most influential live albums in the history of rock. Ace Frehley made millions of adolescent boys want to become guitar heroes.

I was a 10 year old kid who stole his big sisters KISS Alive album and listened to it over and over again in 1975. I recall the kids lucky enough to be allowed to stay up and watch the KISS performance on The Midnight Special telling the rest of us about it. I was a fan right up until the TV special they did not too long after this performance. It was so bad that I lost interest. This performance shows what they were capable of as a band. Ace and Peter meant so much to the chemistry. Ace is a great musician when he is right.
This early KISS stuff is what I missed as a Canadian child. This is brilliant.
Plus, it's my favourite KISS tune and definitely in their top 5. Else it wouldn't appear on almost every live release.
Thanks, Midnight Special, for taking the time and making the effort to clean up these vintage performances and share them with us. We're very lucky; I'm very grateful.
Yeah it was great to experience Kiss as a kid. Huge Fan back then. They were such a sight! But as a Canadian you had the likes of Rush, Triumph, and my favorite April Wine. I would of loved to have seen them. Loverboy probably put on a good show.
