  • G’day guys,
    In today’s video I am going to go show how even a new pilot in a small ship can still effectively hunt big game in a Hazardous Resource Extraction site, without having to be an uber pilot.
    This is directed more towards new pilots wanting to engage in HAZ Res Bounty Hunting using a relatively cheap combat ship, and not getting blown up every trip!

      Lol. All you have to worry about is not trying to roll when in FA off. Rolling really screws you over. Use your lateral and vertical thrusters only, i.e. pitch and yaw. Only use FA off when trying to turn very tightly as your momentum carries you in the direction you originally were moving.
      In the FDL a great maneuver is to boost away from your target and FA off while pitching up so your momentum carries you in the direction of the boost while your thrusters turn you to face your target. Then you turn FA on while using reverse thrusters to continue to carry you away while you open fire taking all pips from engines and splitting them between weapons and shields to maximize the effectiveness of the maneuver. Given that this maneuver takes you to near max range of your target a Long Range modified weapons loadout works wonders since you won't lose damage over distance.
      It's really hard to convey maneuvers through text but I'm sure someone has explained this better on the interwebs somewhere. I can try to clarify if you have questions.

    Nice one Jonesy! This is exactly what I did when I first started out and got 10k merits undermining the Kumo crew. I went all pulse lasers gimbaled. Taking out wings are much easier with all pulse. Use VA to target power plant for you.

    • @ChandlerUSMC
      @ChandlerUSMC 8 лет назад

      +WintersArcher What's VA? Sounds like a shortcut to selecting it the menu. I'd loved to hear it- was about to check keyboard controls. Haven't pancaked on an asteroid while selecting the PPlant but it's a certainly unless I can leverage a quicker method. thx

    • @WintersArcher
      @WintersArcher 8 лет назад

      +ChandlerUSMC Voice Attack, so I say "target power plant" and the macro selects the menu and scrolls through to the power plant module for the target selected. I made the macro so it goes through the process very quickly while I can still keep my hands on the controls and fly the ship.

    • @richard-hawley
      @richard-hawley 8 лет назад

      +WintersArcher Isn't the location of the power plant in the list variable? I wondered if it was possible but didn't think it would be reliable.

    • @WintersArcher
      @WintersArcher 8 лет назад +2

      Richard Hawley Yes it is variable. you can make more than one macro. The variable being if the frameshift interdictor is on the target ship or not. If it has one then the power plant is one more up on the list to be selected. So if I am inderdicted I say "target powerplant" to go one more up on the list. IF I am the interdictor then I would say "target powersource" for the normal macro. I undermine a lot, I have not gone up against a ship had more variables than that. VA is the way to go, plus it makes selecting the power plant or docking request faster than any manual keyboard presses.

    Huh, has the AI improved these two years or are they just that unable to anything when you tail so close to their arse? I swear, I've seen AI constantly pull off rather complicated maneuvers nowdays. No matter what, this was good refresher course to things I think I knew.
    Also, I'd like to add: Never be too greedy, turn in bountines early because oh boy.. No matter how careful you are, at one point your strayfire gets you wanted due unforeseen flight patterns of feds.
    To reinforce of not being too greedy, I've fitted my Viper MkIV with beams and seekers. Seekers to mess up bigger ships faster and once I am out of missiles, it's rearming and cashing in time.
    I also have fallen in love with Eagle and Vulture due the insane thrusters all around. Makes me feel like ace pilot when pulling off some stupidly ridiculous spirals to retarget or reobtain dominant position

      It sounds like you're in the perfect position to answer but big question from this video: Will this tactic work as well in a Vulture as in a Viper? I was planning on picking up a Vulture to see how it compares with the Cobra I'll currently flying, but this tactic looks like so much fun that I may go for a Viper instead if it's more effective in this role.

I think I'll build urself one and have a play.

Question about this vid (and some others); I notice you sometimes turn off flight assist for a very short time, what does it exactly do? Where do you use it for? It looks like you get a better turn rate, but just wanted to ask for sure. And in the RES zone, the security ships helping you, do they help you because you are green to them, or do they Always help you? (because maybe RES zones work like that?) I have not tried those zones but want to try them soon. Thanks in advance :)

      Glad your enjoying them :) Turning flight assist off allows you not only to turn a little faster, but it also allows your ship to fly in one direction while facing another, its very handy in some situations. Security ships regardless if they are green or not will attack anything hostile in the area. Its why when your starting out, to stay with a group of security ships, otherwise sometimes you could be fighting on your own. Security ships will totally ignore you, unless you fire on them, or on a non hostile target. So be very careful, a stray shot or two can land you in a world of hurt as all those security ships turn on you. So watch your fire. :)

    New sub, fellow Aussie and still very new to the game here - I'm wondering if you could tell me what purpose that heat sink you have serves, what with the trusty little pulse lasers being so effective, if it's necessary at all, or is it related to Silent Running or perhaps something else instead? Cheers.

I found a system with 3 high and 2 hazardous sites where I've been carefully running the highs with my Sidey (many mistakes made but just as many lessons learned) I am about ready to move on to my first Viper.....in an hour or so actually lol

    • @IanTheWoodchuck
      @IanTheWoodchuck 5 лет назад +1

      Pulse lasers are really energy and heat efficient compared to burst and beam, which makes them good for sustained fire. For the big guns, he's using medium multicannons, which do use some power and heat, but are much lower than comparable size lasers in the same hardpoints. Once the shields are down, he spins up the cannons and keeps flinging depleted uranium until they're swiss cheese!

    Nice thank you soo much. I suck in combat and this helped me with the basics. Any tips for how to avoid their rapid turning using reverse thrust? • @VindicatorJones
      @VindicatorJones  7 лет назад

      Yeah, I will be making a video on this shortly, but there is no counter that can work 100% of the time. Its just adapting to the situation and being aware of what your target will try and do. Following their engine trails, their speed and heading will often give you very clear indications of what they are trying to do.

    • @VindicatorJones
      @VindicatorJones  8 лет назад +3

      Honestly, just spend a lot of practicing flying around objects just using your thrusters, controlling your direction of movement balancing the forward thrusters with your directional thrusters. Eventually, it will become second nature, so that when your in combat, your not even really thinking about it, and just react.

    • @DerekMoore82

      Vindicator Jones I don't have forward or reverse thrusters on the controller I'm using, because I can't think of anything I would be willing to replace. Should I swap throttle out for forward/reverse thrusters? Would that be worth it? My right sick is lateral/vertical thrusters (alt.= yaw), my left stick is pitch/roll, my bumpers are throttle, and my triggers are weapon firing. My dpad is default pips, face buttons are default as well.

    Jonesy, think you can do a video on what players with Python and greater sizes can do against things like a vulture? I find turrets do bugger all damage, and obviously they'll outturn you. I think we need a way to kill them and not just have to default to running away

    • @VindicatorJones
      @VindicatorJones  8 лет назад

      +Rubberduckzillas Currently the best way to handle this situation in Pythons/Anacondas/Corvettes is to fly backwards, but without getting too far away from the target.. try and hold your position around 400-600 meters with your throttle. You can usually maintain constant fire on them, while they try and roll and avoid your fire. If they are firing at you constantly, put 3-4 pips into shields, and go easy on the trigger until they start to try and roll away
      For an example of it (its called shield tanking) check out my earlier video on the FDL go to around 9:25 and you can see what I mean from there. Although this is FDL specific, the tactic will work on any ship, and suits larger ships.

      Tee having binds for the directional thrusters makes a huge difference, in the event that's your issue, you may need to sort that out. Position is everything with a ship that can dominate that aspect and pay for not taking advantage of it as they can't take many big hits. Running away also leaves you in crosshairs, so that's not a great option if you can avoid it.

    • @travisfarrell9222
      @travisfarrell9222 6 лет назад +3

      It’s a little late but he address this before. If you wanna practice, get a ship and take it to a planet belt. Focus on one rock and keep your crosshairs on it while flying around using your directional thrusters, along with main thrusters and boosters. Also try boosting while holding directional thrusters for a more accurate turn if needed

    Is this proof of a balance issue?
    You'd think a ship this small wouldn't have the capacity to take a larger ships shields down as easily as it appears here.
    I understand maintaining your position is key, but I'd think the regen rate on a ship with a better powerplant could withstand sustained fire from such poorly energized weapons.
    I dont know if what I'm seeing here is an example of a balanced system.
    That's just my poor reasoning I guess.
