I have early access but your link doesn’t work for me
@@hzfishas lol no worries, you'll get a notification soon, youtube just delaying as usual.
Amon doesn't bend your spirit directly the way energy bending works. He doesn't take your bending away, he permanently blocks it with bloodbending, by messing with your chakras and severing chi paths. It's pretty much reversed healing.
Interesting detail is, that Amon does it by touching one's forehead, where the "third eye" chakra is located, that deals with insight and illusion. May be he messes that chakra up and somehow convinces the body that it cannot bend anymore.
I always figured it was something along those lines. I always thiught it was just a bloodbending enforced version of Chi Blocking to be honest but that makes sense.
He kind of said that during the discussion part after the episode. He mentioned blocking the chakras, and brought up Aang not being able to go into the avatar state because he blocked his 7th chakra.
basically that, very nicely explained there
You remember chi blocking, when people hit a person's pressure points, it blocked their chi paths and stopped them from bending for a short time? Yeah, now imagine the power to literally control the INSIDE of a body, like somone with blood bending. It's basically how healing works too - they redirected the blood and energy around the body, healing it. Amon basically reversed water bending healing technique and used it to DAMAGE the chi pathways, but because the damage was internal instead of external like chi blockers hits, it causes the bending loss to be permanent instead of temporary
INTRESTING, its pretty fun reading everyone's take on how this psychic bloodbending works. So far I've read a hand full of comepletly different explainations on it. I'm guessing it was never actually explained in detail.
Yakone’s wife deserved so much better… she’s the true tragic character
She goes by Amom in fanon lol
@@thecaprikid1329 that's great
Tarrlocks family is so tragic. Definetly one of the most saddest backstories in the avatar universe.
Gay ninja has spoken
Tarlock/Noatok and the Fire nation royal family have the most tragic backstories :(
I have seen you before?
@@Love_4_kikiHe is your father.
Dante Basco stopped you from hearing “Tenzin’s brother Commander Bumi”
Also it’s just bloodbending. I think they do something to the third eye chakra like how Aang’s spine chakra got fused by Azula’s lightning when she killed him. (He finished opening the third eye chakra when he came out of the crystal. That’s why he was in the avatar state)
Now this is what a think, he uses blood bending to permanently lock the chakra through just like chi blockers but yeah more potent.
It's been shown that injury can lock up the chakra. I think Amon is triggering strokes in his victims.
He uses bloodbending to psychically create blood clots that prevent the flow of chi throughout the body, like the branch in the creek.
I’ve never heard someone make a connection between Oman’s blood bending and combustion bending, interesting take!
Oman - guy turned into a country
@@DerMBen oh man
Sokka makes this connection during the trial of Yakone earlier in the season.
@@kevinmalone9410 I think that was just for unprecedented bending skills. I kinda mean specifically the psychic aspect Aege mentioned. I probably didn’t word it great lol
@@benevans6583 to be fair you said “a connection” not any specific connection
Can we talk about how, Aang's refusal to kill ozai, and his reliance on this 'peaceful' third path, directly lead to Amon becoming obsessed with the ability to take away bending
I mean, technically, yes, but what significance is there to that? Naturally the discovery of a technique directly leads to someone wanting to learn it.
@@welltoucansamatthatgame The significance is that, Aang refused to take the fire lord's life and was handed this get out of jail free card.
Bending removal as a form of punishment, became an easy alternative for Aang. By taking Yakone's ability away, instead of killing him, it caused a ripple effect.
TLDR Amon's rise to power is explicitly Aang's fault
@@welltoucansamatthatgame I think they mean how the peaceful path unintentionally led to another violent path
@@Animedingo People who've only ever watched ATLA often ask, "What is the point of Korra?" "Why do we need another Avatar show?" How is LOK, a story set decades later with completely new characters, at all relevant to the--let's be honest--far superior viewing experience that ATLA has to offer? I think what you've brought up would be my exact answer. Exploring the repercussions of Aang's worldview and choices (as the Avatar, as a father, as a leader) is one of the best themes of the show and aptly mirrors Roku's portrayal in ATLA; apparently Aang was his successor in more ways than one.
@@Animedingo Okay, with the Yakone situation, I understand your point. I was only thinking of the Ozai situation. I just don't think it's fair to fault him too harshly for using his pacifistic option.
man I loved this episode but to clear it up yakone making his kids practice blood bending so much at ever full moon so that it became second nature to them. its like learning how to do something threw repetition and then u can do it with your eyes closed, but because its illegal no one practice its out of fear of having their bending taken by the avatar. man I cant wait till u get to book 3
Reminds me of Goku and Gohan learning how to stay in SSJ form when they were in the hyperbolic time chamber.
@@Kobrakai21 yes exactly
Love how silent you got during the story. Its exactly how I felt. I could tell how drawn in you got
Amon was always nimble and dodged every attac in every fight. He was actually subtly bloodbending his opponents to avoid every attack! He flowed like water.
Psychic blood bending is how he bends without moving his arms, Bending without the need for a moon comes from his dad, Taking away bending is I guess like making a blood clot in someone's chakra so you can't bend??
Exactly! Its why Amon comes off so badass. He could never get touched because he would slightly alter your attack to miss. I wonder how many fans actually pick up on this right away lol.
@@maschef24 But on the other hand you could also say it makes him less badass We thought he was a fantastic fighter being able to keep up with benders, but it turns out he was "cheating" the entire time. eh
@@HotDogTimeMachine385 I don't think he bends others attack away, because atleast someone would have noticed something like "why isn't my attack going the way I wanted it to?"
@@HotDogTimeMachine385 thing is that all this are just audiences piecing things together themselves rather than the series provide a clear explanation
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Dante Basco is in his 40s now and still sounds like that.
The best theory I have about Amon is that he uses his bloodbending to create a series of mini strokes, destroying the parts of the brain that control bending. Each element has different channels. Amon had to experiment on each type of bender to master his new skill. And he almost certainly killed people in the process. And we already know that injury can lock a chakra. Aang demonstrated that.
Wait fr Basco is that old? Thats crazy. It makes sense, but damn its hard to think about
Aege: want to see more of the White Lotus
Me: "laughs in season 3"
"I wonder how useful bending could be in the future." Revolutions generally happen when the powerful start losing their advantages. The world building in this season is immaculate
If you can temporarily disable bending by hitting an external pressure point, then it makes sense that you could disable it by messing with the internals.
I'd never considered the "chakras" theory. I had always thought Amon created a blood clot to block whatever part of the brain controls bending.
Remember, injury can lock up a chakra. That's what happened to Aang.
No, Iroh's grandfather is Haru.
0:43 "why my character, why not mako??" same, thats me
You can say Bumi is kinda a psych earthbender. If you remember during the eclipse when he took back Omashu he wasn't touching the ground and was in a metal box and earthbend his way out without using his arms or legs just with his face (like the way we see Yakone and Noatak do with their face).
Something to remember is that the rules of blood bending established in ATLA were basically created by Hama and Katara. Hama invented it, but wasn’t capable enough to perform bloodbending during anytime that wasn’t the full moon (the peak of a waterbender’s power). Katara seemed to have higher skill than Hama to potentially overcome that barrier, but she hated bloodbending and never tried to train or improve her skill in it. But with new bloodbenders in the world post ATLA, there were people not only capable, but willing to push the limits of bloodbending. Basically Yakkone and his sons are the epitome of that. Breaking through the barrier of the full moon, manipulating entities without using any physical movement, manipulation of the body so oppressive that Amon can suppress a person’s bending. These things seem out of nowhere since ATLA never suggested these things to be possible, but that’s because bloodbending was so new and those who knew how to use it were not interested in innovating the technique.
Okay so, here's how I see Amon's "taking away bending" works: It's a mixture of bloodbending and chiblocking, specifically, he blocks their chi, and uses bloodbending to make it permanently blocked. Think of chiblocking like you're putting a wooden dam in front of a river, it's gonna come down eventually. But replace that wooden dam with one made of titanium. It's not going away anytime soon. That's what Amon's doing, basically.
Amon basically 'blocks' your chi in the brain that makes you able to bend.
That makes way more sense. The show could've just said that
3:13 I gotta say... I thoroughly appreciate this new noise
Bending at the end of the day is just a skill.
The reason why it was only available under full moonlight was because Hama was not skilled enough to do it without the moon.
And katara without mastering it fully, dropped the skill because it was immoral.
I love the backstory of Amon’s family. But every time Yakone speaks I’m waiting for “get back to work Mr. Squidward!” 😂
I forgot what happened last episode until you immediately mentioned Lin and it hit me like a rock all over again lol
Aege, if you haven't started watching Book 2 just wanna give ya a recommendation to watch the recap in the first episode (same for Book 3 and 4) since they explain what happened between each season.
Even if ya miss it, I'm sure the lovely people in the comments will fill ya in lol
i feel like king buni would be the best candidate of psychic earth bending. when he was captured he could still earthbend by only moving his chin. not the same thing of course, but seems like the only time an earth bender did stuff without any real movements
I’ve been sick so I hadn’t gotten around to watching this but I’ve got to say my favorite thing about these reactions is how suspicious he gets of Asami. The worry that she’ll turn. Top tier reactions. Top. Tier.👌
Couple notes for this episode.
Yakone says their family has the strongest bloodbending bloodline. Which suggests its a secret skill that different groups had. I think Hama was not the first bloodbender, but a bender who discovered the skill.
Also you prob already caught this but Tarrlock actually can't do the psychic blood bending. He has to use his arms.
Also Bumi is able to bend without using his hands or legs, as you see when he is locked in the metal box.
Love these reactions. Can't believe we still got three whole seasons to go!
Perfect cos I was just ready to hit up the ol' dab pen. thanks for posting aege!
Amon uses bloodbending to disrupt a bender's chi making it impossible for them to bend.
Amon's technique is psychic bloodbending, in correlation, allows him great connection when targeting the light Chakra/forehead; insight and illusion. In the flashback as Noatak, he came to the _Revelation_ that his father Yakones' belief that bloodbending is the most feared(respected) is wrong. When throughout time its been the Avatar who brought peace through balancing times of strife and is often seen as a savior. Since he's warped from his upbringing. He determined that meant becoming a figure such as Amon. Enabling the use of his perspective insight to instill, awaken, exacerbate and cultivate within others the very same ideals(as there's always been signs that can be likely from ATLA; Ba Sing Se being a prime example). Its conceivable that would only grow with the epicenter that the United Republic is). With the physical use of the psychic chiblock bloodbending technique. It creates a permanence; illusion, at least from the individual bender can no longer bend. Much the way Ty Lee caused temporary paralysis, except bloodbending can ruin a physical connection to their chackras(as thats all thats necessary given the way of the worlds spiritual connection was all but lost outside of the White Lotus, Hue; Swampbender and Northern Water Tribe in ATLA). And Happy Birthday Aege!
Yo Aege figured out the chakra thing like that he’s on his shit. Also happy birthday!
Honestly, Mako is my least favorite in these earlier seasons. But to your point about Amon; I get being a little disappointed with the fact that he's actually a bender doing it, and I think that's the point haha he's essentially a charlatan, masking his identity and true nature and motives behind a facade, tricking people into rallying behind him. Still valid being disappointed by it, just wanted to bring that up.
"Why not Mako?" The real question
Because no one would care.
@@maraudentium2607 😂😂😂
Ay, he gets better!
@@nikolaiquack8548 not really a high bar though.
@@maraudentium2607 Hell he never did anything wrong. Korra kissed him while he was with a relationship with Asami. From my point of view Korra is a Thot. Korra the whorra.
Oh man here we go, this is THE episode, of season 1, i've been the most hyped to see your reaction too lol
There's a few ideas as to how Amon blocks bending. Some say they used a more advanced, blood-fueled chi blocking to just null it altogether.
I however, as a well adjusted man that I am think the reason he placed his hand on the person's head is to bloodbend the brain parts that handles bending and just disable the blood circulation there altogether.
So you remember how Guru Patik explain how cosmic energy flows through the chakras like water, Amon blocks those pools, stopping bending
Would be nice if someone would state it like say idk Katara who's been with Aang
@@itsjustvin7630 And is a blood bender but refuses to do it, Katara could’ve been the unsung hero
@@ryanalex4671 a simple scene of katara stating how bloodbending prevents bending wouldve been an easy fix
Amon is using the principles of Chi Blocking, but on the inside, to sever the connection that chi blocking would only temporarily block.
He can "Take away bending" by blood bending their brain like a lobotomy type thing
I’m glad to see you’re loving mako and korra as much as everyone else 🥴🙃☠️
Amon uses bloodbending to basically permanently chi block and/or chakra block from the inside, to be fair this could be probably counteracted just like normal chi blocking is, but obviously no one knew how Amon did it until now
Yes that's how amon does it. You are 100% correct. He blocks chakras either by destrying chi paths or cutting the interconnection between chakras.
Also amon being a bender doesn't change anything about his philosophy. He's still correct about things he was before and wrong about things he was wrong about before. He genuinely believes bending is evil because as a child his happy life was ruined when noatak and tarrlok were discovered as benders. All that changed his day to day and brought back previous drama from yakone's life which also was caused by bending. The backstory is done.
AEGE YOU PREDICTED THIS IN ATLA
Go back to the puppet master video. 21:47
I’ve waited SO LONG to comment this
LOL I went back at looked, I think I was aiming more on the line of can she force them to bend or stop bending (like through theforms since she controlled the body) but I'ma gonna go ahead and take the dub on that "prediction" 😂
@@AegeChill that’s how it will be in my head canon
Dante Basco is a grown ass man and that is what he sounds like.
Mako: I was doing reconnaissance
Kora: I'me reconnaissance
Remember when King Bumi was earthbending even trapped in his metal box. Psychic Earthbending
I know you’ve already seen more but if you’re still having mixed feelings about Amon’s backstory, you’re gonna be happy it wasn’t any spirit stuff after season 2
Actually, your explanation is almost exactly there. He removes the bending by blocking the user's chi paths, effectively creating a similar result by locking you out of the energy flow that allows you to bend. This is why his bending removal produces no light- Aang's method is separate and comes from energybending.
23:48 Also, 100% agree. This is my biggest problem with Amon myself, despite how much I love him as a villain.
Αmon used bloodbending to block peoples chakras so they couldnt bend permanently..its like chi blocking but bigger.
Azula blocked Aangs chakra once and he couldnt go to the avatar state .
Amon uses blood bending to block the chakras, you get it perfect.
FINALLY! Yay, thank you Aege. Keeping us fed.😤
Trivia: This episode was inspired by World War I and World War II.
wow super amazing and informative bro who knew
Getting hit with that Backstory no bullshit 😂
I remember Bumi using his mind to earthbend to get out of his cage.
3:36 he was out of pocket for that one
Blood bending is just bending of water in people stronger than the will to control their own bodies. Chi blockers temporarily disrupt chi flow, energy flow, in the body. So Amon must just be strong enough to modify chi flow in the body nullifying bending.
When Aang locked his seventh chakra, he blocked energy flow in from the universe blocking his ability to go into the avatar state. Katara said when healing him that she could feel his energy was all messed up around where Azula struck him with lightning. In the end, he “unlocked” the chakra when Ozai knocked him back and a rock hit the injury site hard.
I think of taking away bending to be related to blood bending in the way it invades and modified another’s body. Amon was exceeding rare. (Since Aang could take away bending, I bet, consequently, he could have blood bent if he tried, not that he ever would have.)
Tophs Seismic Sense could technically be a form of psychic earth bending
Happy Birthday and glad you're feeling better man! ❤️
Yes! Yes! Yes! think that’s how the bloodbending works to take take bending too!!
These next few episodes are gonna go OFF. Everytime I watch this show or know ppl are getting to this part, I get so excited! I cant wait for you to experience it all from here all the way to the last episode of the series. Someone get me a time machine so i can hop ahead and binge your reactions to the whole series
amon uses Bloodbending to cut the chi paths that make bending possible or the part of the brain that makes bending possible
Psychic Airbending would be crazy!
😶
The music in this one is so fuego
i feel bad for the mother i bet she was just a normal person and she wasn't even aware of them bloodbending and she thought her son was dead
So excited for you to be back reacting to Korra.
I'm pretty sure Bumi did some psychic earth bending too. "You can still bend in there?" "They didn't cover my face."
my guess on how he stops ppl from bending is using bloodbending with the info on how to chi block to basically make muscles tense in the areas to prevent it to go back to normal. basically keeping ppl in chi blocked permanently which is why the ppl would look bad after
i had to pop in for this one- i mean i just LOVE backstory~~~ and this one is so GOOD-!! and sad.
HIGHLIGHT of my week! so glad you're back and feeling better. and happy birthday tomorrow apparently! ❤️
When Amon takes bending, it’s similar to how the chi blockers do it, when they hit pressure point to knock your chakras out of balance. But Amon blood bends what I assume to be the part of the brain that houses bending. If we think of bending as a biological property.
But when the avatar takes bending, it’s not the person’s bending being suppressed. The energy required for bending is permanently removed.
Happy birthday Aege!
Oh man! I cannot wait to watch you watch the last episode!! I mean, I can because I'm gonna stick with this tier of membership to your channel, but I'm super psyched to see you see the next ep!!

I'm sure King bumi psychic earthbended his way out of Omashu
8:57 It's funny, if they have tech for planes/warships/mecha-suits and while Korra is flinging around a torpedo a few moments later.. there should be hand guns but w/e
no one needs guns in the atla universe
@@MMAisTHEbestSPORT08 not asami's or mako/bolins parents that couldnt defend themselves from benders? Mb if i cant tell thats /s zuko. Pretty sure zuko would be running that glock and firebending them bullets. But yeah as a viewer that wouldnt be interesting to watch, rather stick with the bending.
@@missdifficulty905 Oh yeah the entertainment has a really big part in that. Also mako and bolins parents are benders just to let you know, people wouldn't need guns because the benders could easily defend themselves from bullets. If you shoot a firebender, they could probably firebend it away, if you shoot an Airbender they could also airbend it away, if you shoot a waterbender they could make a ice/water shield because bullets usually can't go through water, if you shoot an earthbender, they could easily make an earth shield. There are probably many more reasons as to why guns would be useless in the bending universe.
@@MMAisTHEbestSPORT08 That's true, I guess I mean for all non benders. Not like everyone getting shot at is a bender, can jump around like ty lee, or anything. But mb havent watched korra in a long time to remember about mako/bolin's parents.
If you want more detail he basically is using blood bending as an advance chi blocking to permanently block that persons chi to bend.

Me: okay so...
Happy birthday in advance👑🎉
I think you might be correct on the Chakra's thing. I also remember the guru talking about the chakra's and there were chakra's for all elements so maybe he's bloodbending the chakra of the element
Happy bday, I forgive you for making us wait
Let's go! Been waiting for this
Side note:
If Chi Blocking can block bending temporarily its not that far off that blood bending can block chi too.
I could see Asami saying "F*ck the Avatar" lol
They should have dedicated an episode to the cabbage corp dude busting out of prison lmao
SPOILER ALERT; he uses boodbending to internally chi block someone with their blood permanently. TyLee in atla did chiblock externally and just physically which was temporary. I think another bloodbender could reverse if they knew what they were doing (katara did not have a full moon when she was trying to restore korras bending) otherwise only engerybending can reverse it. Also combustion bending is sorta psychically firebending.
Not really a spoiler cuz the show never directly says that
Sounds like someone needs to watch the Guru episode again 😁 [woop, spoke too soon - you're a smart cookie.] Great reaction, as always. Happy birthday!!
Not sure why so many people think bloodbending is intrinsically linked to the full moon - even in its debut episode they mention it's because the full moon is when waterbenders are strongest, implying that besides the technique, a large part of it is power, which the moon helps with. Any super powerful waterbender could theoretically bloodbend once they know the technique
Interesting!! Or they could ve drawing power from the moon spirit, too
Hama was a very powerful waterbender and she couldnt bloodbend during the day so I would disagree.
and Tarlokk, even tho he wasn't an insanely powerful waterbender, he still could bloodbend during the day so I think it's more of a genetic ability.
Hama was powerful, but bloodbending is extremely hard - I would argue that she still needed the extra boost from the moon. I would also argue that Tarrlok is powerful, but not a very good fighter since he became a politician and only ever fought a handful of non-benders in training after that. I think that's why he defaults to bloodbending the second Korra knocks him down - because that's his most powerful technique. I do agree that genetics plays a part - clearly their bloodline is very powerful.
So the creators explained this that what Amon does to take people's bending is basically a reverse of what waterbenders do to heal people.
Remember, Tai Li could temporarily take people's bending by blocking their chi.
Katara could reverse the effects with healing.
Chi flows through your chakras, one of which is the third eye (which I just realized Guru Patik said was the chakra of insight and is blocked by illusion, with the greatest illusion being the illusion of separation). And if things block the chakras, the chi can't flow
Amon can blood bend, but he seems to need to physically be touching a person in order to take their bending, specifically the third eye. It's like a permanent block on that chakra so the chi can't flow through it
If only Nickelodeon didnt dick them around so they can have a more flowing and flesh out statement within the show
Happy Birthday 🎂🎉! (When it comes of course).
One of the best villain backstories ever. Truly evil shit.
This and the next episode is my favorite episode.
